Only me, cook and manager in this resturant. How's the taste of pho? you can guess.

Okay, so maybe there's not a ton of phans (get it? get it?) of this place, but I love it! There's really nothing like a nice warm bowl of pho on a rainy wintery night, and the fact that it's BYOB just makes it better. The one thing I'll say though is that they no longer serve their pho with tripe, which is kind of sad...

I went recently and got the regular beef pho, was a little disappointed by lack of meat, but they're usually quite generous with it, so I'm going to chalk it up as a one-time fluke (can't win em all).

I would never go in this dump as long as I live. The pho was terrible. absolutely a joke. No bean sprouts, no basil. as advertized in description. Filthy windows and god awful filthy restrooms. Where is the health inspectors in Chicago.

Another place we went to while stuck in Chi-town because of Chicago. It was so disappointing. My boyfriend had the chicken pad thai and I had green curry neither of which were good. Our friends both had beef pho. They complained about it the entire time. I don't know how we even ended up here while in Chicago? I'm still confused.

So it was a rainy Sunday in August and I really needed pho. Like, stat. No time to head up to Uptown, just pho...now. And apparently this was the only place in the Near North where I could satisfy that on a Sunday evening. So even though I saw the miz Yelp reviews, thought I'd give it a go.

Sigh. Would have been better off with some Campbell's. I'm so spoiled from living in Portland and Seattle, where you have outstanding, cheap, pho on practically every corner. This was an overly salty, pretty flavorless, mess.

The boyfriend, however, declared his thai dishes quite satisfactory. Granted, he is a garbage disposal and eats all my sh*tty cooking, so take that's for what it's worth. Portions are large, and it's pretty cheap. But that's about it.

Tried their Tempura Dog at Hot Dog Fest with a side of Sriracha. Delicious.

Avoid- I eat pho all the time at many different places. This was very weaksauce- definitely not "authentic". Not very flavorful and the noodles were hard and undercooked.Place is advertised as a Thai/viet restaurant. They leaned towards the Thai side.... by a lot.

This review is solely based on my experience with Quang while they were vending at Pride Fest.  I ended up throwing out most of it because I couldn't stomach it.  I rarely do that.

The people staffing the booth were friendly so this is no hit to them, but as several others have already yelped, the food is downright bad.

Peppery, vaguely fishy, and dry noodles with an unpleasant aftertaste, and undercooked cream cheese pockets counted as rangoons.  No thanks.  I wonder how Quang ended up at Fest.  Hope they can get their act together.

The worst Thai food I've ever had. No flavor. Took a few bites and that was it. Had the Kee Mao, the Vietnamese Spring rolls and Wonton Soup. The staff was very nice but the food was horrible.

The ambiance didn't bother me, it was the quality of food.  I didn't even eat half of my pad thai and that never happens.  Just had no flavor at all.

Looking back, I should have ordered from the Vietnamese side of the menu...

Going in I thought it was going to be quite authentic considering the cozy decor and the service people. And I could have ordered from the "authentic vietnamese" section to test its authenticity. However, from the two things we had it was very disappointing.

Potstickers - very small portion for the price ($6.95). Virtually no meat in it. They are fried as opposed to grilled on the menu (which many restaurants do because frying does not result in burning that easily). The potstickers skin was hard, over fried and just did not taste fresh. They tasted like they were prepared a while ago and were just sitting there in the kitchen waiting to be fried. We ordered them thinking "who can screw up potstickers?" Well unfortunately.

Beef fried rice - lots of beef given the portion of the fried rice. I don't know whether Vietnamese fried rice is supposed to be more moist because being Cantonese, I am used to the Cantonese standard of good fried rice - rice is not too soft and not too hard, when you run your spoon through the rice, they separate (namely, it's dry and not sticky). This fried rice looks like the chef just mixed the sauce, beef and cooked rice together. So it's like low rice (as in low mein).

Seeing the other comments makes me think maybe I will go back and try some tom yom. But that's a big maybe.. :(

    Oh Quangs...

I only get one dish there, sizzling black pepper chicken. which i dont think is vietnamese or thai.

I especially like the 8 yr old waitress we sometimes have.  She's usually doing her homework in the corner.  I think she will grow up to be very successful.

Best of all, there are not many people there, ever.

The food was yum, I had some sorta meat dish with onions. My co-worker had pho which she liked. Our server, a seven year old girl gave me a weird look when I attempted to order in VN. She didn't even bring our check either! Talk about service, I guess they should consider hiring someone older? Either way this place is worth the try if you work in the loop.

The Vietnamese fried rice is quite tasty though I'm not sure how authentic it is.

Service and ambiance could be better.

Stopped here on a Tuesday about 1pm. Place was pretty packed. I ordered chicken pad thai and crab ragoon to go. Service was friendly and fast. Food was disappointing. I'm not sure if their Vietnamese cuisine is better, but the pad thai was under-cooked and they burned the peanut sauce. Crab ragoon was terrible. I will not return and recommend you consider going elsewhere.

I've never had Thai food that tasted so much like metal.

Big fan of the smaller portion sizes, though. It's the closest I've seen to an actual healthy portion size at an Asian restaurant.

I'm a long-time Yelp user and have not been moved to write a review until today -- I know, shame on me -- I promise to do better.

Quang Noodle is to be avoided at all costs.  I offer this as a public service.

I should preface this with the fact that my only exposure to Quang was through this weekend's World's Largest Block Party, at which Quang was a vendor.

I ordered chicken satay and pad thai.  The satay was bad and the pad thai was really bad.  Satay was overcooked and dry, having been heated in a deep fryer that must have contained some very old and/or fish oil.  The pad thai was completely devoid of flavor, with an overabundance of bean sprouts.

Now before you jump on me for even expecting serviceable Thai food from a street fest, please know that I asked the booth workers if these menu items were the same recipe and prep that they use in the restaurant and they said, "yes."

So either the food is really bad at Quang or they're shoveling a lesser product to the beer-fueled fest masses to exploit the event to boost profits.  Neither scenario is very postive.

I hate putting two stars down when the food wasn't all that bad. However, what sealed the deal for the 2-star is the fact that the service and overall experience was awful.

I go to school literally across the street on the corner, and went in at 5:20pm to grab a quick dinner before my 6pm class. Being that there was only ONE other person eating (already had his food), my friend and I thought it was going to be a quick meal.

    Oh how wrong we were.....

Not only did we wait for 10 mins, while our server sat and talked w/ one of the other coworkers, to get the order in. We then waited an extra 15 to get our appetizer, which was brought out only 2 mins before I received my pad thai. Then, my friend waited an extra 5 mins before his beef w/ peppers came out.

I mean, when I served in college, I would never bring out someone's unless the whole table was ready. (Or if they told me otherwise.)

By the time I got my food I had 10 mins before I had to leave for class, and I had a 5 min start on my friend. So, I ended up leaving him (still eating), while I paid the tab and ran across the street.

The food was decent, but the service makes or breaks an experience, and it definitely broke mine. I'll probably go again for take-out while at school, but they really SUCK at service.

I go to law school just across the street, so when I get a craving for curry, I hop over here for lunch. I always get the Mild Curry Chicken. It's not the best I've ever had, but it's pretty good. Nice and coconut-y with plenty of chicken. It also comes with rice or noodles.
The service here is good, too. I always get a seat right away, my water is always full, and things are quick.
I'm not sure why the other reviews are so bad. Overall, I think Quang's is a nice place to grab a quick bite to eat if you're in the neighborhood.

My wife and I come here quite a bit, and despite the place being pretty empty, we always enjoy it!

-We are always able to sit immediately
-The service is fast and kind, they always keep my water full
-The food always comes out quickly
-I really enjoy the basil chicken fried rice, yummmm!
    -It is very affordable
-My wife consistently orders different types of noodle bowls and has always enjoyed them
-They don't take American Express which is a drag for me

All in all I really like stopping here for a quick cheap meal and am quite surprised at the number of bad reviews....

This is a staple I go to when I am in downtown Chicago. Both my hub and I have tried various stir-fries and appetizers, but the one dish we  always enjoy are the noodle soups. The broth is light chicken broth, enhanced with scallions, bird-eye chili, and onions. I usually opt for the #12 noodle soup- shrimp and crab meat with rice vermicelli.

Tina, the owner is nice, and her daughter, Jennifer (the infamous little girl who has been labeled as the "child laborer") is very efficient and adorable. She just comes sometime after school to chill and hang out with her parents.

A good noodle-soup place on chilly nights when your body needs broth.

I suggested this place on a whim despite the poor Yelp reviews. I regretted it right away.

The first sign of bad things to come was the child waitress. She was super adorable but ordering from her made me feel weird inside. Second was the paper label in my water. Gross. Third, the service was super slow even though the place was dead. And it wasn't because they were perfecting our dishes. The pad thai and pho tasted undercooked and chewy, the flavor was bland and portions weren't big.

Sorry fellow Yelpers for not following your advice. I will not be going back.

I actually thought the service was decent. Granted the place was empty when we got there.

Food, was not so decent. This coming from a guy who does fast food Asian at least twice a week. Also, the portions are kinda small, which I guess doesn't make too much of a difference since the food's not very good. Everything tasted kind of sour (except the curry fried rice which was pretty good actually).

Anyway, I won't be coming back and if somehow I'm forced to, it's fried rice all the way.

Is it child labor if the proprietors children seem to take your order and get the food? I can never decide. But anyways, I like the food, especially the curries. And their salads are pretty decent too. And the place is nice and unpretentious, and I never had to wait to get a seat, and when I took stuff to go, they gave me large portions.

I'm a firm believer in the 'you get what you pay for' school of thought, and by that yardstick, this place is pretty good.

It actually makes me sad to see all these bad reviews. I mean, it is what it is to me: a neighbourhood restaurant I sometimes stop by for some beef pad see eiw take out on my way home.

The pad see ew is good. Like, Thai take-out good. It's dark enough (nothing irritates me more than pale pad see eiw) to make me happy, greasy enough to make me feel guilty, and tasty enough to satisfy.

The craving for saucy piles of noodles can be sort of unpredictable, so it's just nice to have Quang Noodle so close.

Ugh, worst pho place in Chicago, no, the world. As a "noodle" place, I expected better.

I don't really mind the kids. Yeah, I would much rather have adults serving me, but hey, I'm Asian too. I understand.

But why would you pass that bowl of instant-like broth and hard noodles as pho??

I am never coming back here. So what if I can't have pho near my work place? I'd rather have no pho option than bad pho options.

It's really only 3.5 stars, and all I had was the Pho so I can't tell you about the rest of it but...

Decor?  It's fine.  I don't know what these other people are on about, but it's yer typical storefront Asian restaurant.  The kids working the front are fine.  Not overly polite, but not rude.  OK, the boy wasn't working, just the two girls, but the service was more than adequate:  I ordered, paid, waited 5 minutes, and was handed my Pho.

And no - it's not the best Pho in the world.  But it's Pho which is within walking distance of my office, is sufficiently sour-spicy-brothy with enough of the right stuff in it to make it worthwhile.

As soon as my neverending sinus infection/cold/RJD2 'flu passes and I have the hankering for something other than soup, I'll try the curries.

    Updated:
I've now tried a couple of the Vietnamese dishes, along with some other Thai ones. All the curries are great.
My favorite dish is the Hot Fried Curry Chicken. They've changed their Pad Thai recipe a bit, but it's still amazing. Five Star Chicken is good too.
I've asked for alterations and substitutions for different dishes and they've always been more than happy to change stuff.
    Yum!

So I'm right now eating my Pad See Ew. It's not bad. It's not great.

That little kid that works there. Man, fuck that little kid. Giving me shit because I don't want veggies or eggs in my Pad See Ew. I don't care if it's not normal, it's what I want!

I put way too much Siracha in this, and I'm tearing up right now in front of a classroom full of people.

I stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to find a good place for pho closer than Chinatown or Argyle.  The soup that came out wasn't too far off, but it wasn't really in line with what I've had at other Vietnamese places.

The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't really seemingly very authentically Vietnamese.  We didn't try the Thai.

    The facts:

    - They have one of the best "good-bad" eggrolls in the city.  "Good-bad" is the level of Chinese food where the place looks shady and you don't know whats in the food, but it tastes good.  The eggrolls are the only things for which I have nice things to say, so I'll stop there.

    - Oh yeah, they do the Vietnamese/ Thai food at most of the neighborhood summer festivals... Just in case you were wondering and missing it so.

Stick with delivery if you are getting Quang.  The inside is dingy looking and smells like an old basement.  There is basically no decor at all.  Two women who were either the owners or managers were sitting and talking the whole time in the back while their son (who didn't appear to be older than 10) waited on us.  He wasn't particularly polite, but what can you expect from a 10 year old.

I ordered Bun Thit Something off the Vietnamese menu.  I've had it at several other places and it was much better at those places.  It wasn't quite as fresh as I'd hoped and it had way too many onions.  It was definitely lacking several things- well, not onions obviously but everything else.  My boyfriend had some chicken and broccoli with black bean Vietnamese dish and it looked fairly good but it was so hot and steaming when he got it that it made his clothes stink.  It was steaming in his face.  They should have waited a minute before they brought it out.  We had potstickers to start with and although there were a ton, they weren't good.  They were hard and I think they had been microwaved.  They weren't like regular potstickers.  And believe me, I know potstickers.

I was umimpressed with Quang.  I definitely need to find a higher quality noodle shop in the area.

Nice waitstaff but the menu was dodgy.  I should've asked for a recommendation, because I went with my standby Pad See Ew and was really dissapointed.  The tofu was like, really rubbery.  My pal's soups looked really good.

We went here with pho on the brain and all collectively chickened out.

I'm always a little skeptical when a restaurant's menu includes two different cuisines. In Quang's case, the menu is split between Thai & Vietnamese.

If you ask me - and you kind of are since you're reading my review - I'd prefer for a restaurant to specialize in one cuisine and then perfect those dishes. It's quality, not quantity.

Key Yelp:  Strictly back up material- like if you find yourself knee-capped on State Street and craving Thai/Vietnamese food.

    Review:

"aight."...that's about the best I can say. I had to run an errand in the Gold Coast hood at lunch time and I wanted something without cheese.  That usually means Asian and so I stumbled upon Quang.  Cheap, informal and plenty to eat.  Promising.

The Tom Yung soup with seafood was swimming with that fake crab meat shit that I avoid like the plague.  It did have little shrimps and a big pile of basil and the usual inedible roots and stalks used to make this soup.  The fish oil though was too strong.  I asked for it and received it medium spicy.  It was ok.

Pad Thai with Tofu (hey you....WAKE UP!) was.....IDK.....not very flavorful.  It was not bad just didn't give me the Pad Thai rush and that great chewy texture when it is prepared well.  The ladies there warmed up to me after a while and when I was choking and coughing on a chili that came dangerously close to my trachea, water was poured with frequent, reckless abandon.

No lunch menu...just dinner but its cheap so not a big deal.  The decor is but a blur at this point....nothing to it.  Floors were clean though, mercifully.

Pho is basically inedible. It sucks.

I live about two blocks from this place so I was HOPING BEYOND HOPE that the pho would be decent. It is too much to ask for good pho from a place that has such an extensive menu. A restaurant needs to focus on pho to make it right. Just go up north or south to a pho place.

I was very surprised to see the positive yelp reviews - but this place has been here awhile. I miss the Japanese restaurant that was on the same block.

Quang's isn't really a 2 star restaurant, but it lost imaginary points for shitty service & no air conditioning.

Typically in asian restaurants, the crappier the service, the better the food. But, I think that comparison exists because it's the less-americanized folk that run the most authentic joints. they couldn't give a rat's ass if our feelings get hurt because they're a little gruff. But that's not the same as the owner's daughter (or whoever that chick was) ignoring us and sitting behind the counter txt'ing her saturday away.

and seriously people? No AC in August? Give me the raw ingredients & I could've cooked them on my scalding bald head.
