I don't know who these crazy people are that are saying it's just an ok place. This place is great ! I've been there for food and for just drinks. The staff is so friendly. They make you feel like home. The beer is always delicious too. I was lucky enough to meet the manager a few times. Jimmy ? Josh ? I'm not sure but I can tell you that he is some serious eye candy. He also has a rapport with his staff and his customers. I just like looking at his bum
Review Source:Ri Ra has been really good to me and my fiancee this summer. They have good beer selection, and I like the little touches like the shandies. Their food is quite good for the money, especially during their half-price appetizer times. They have live music Friday nights, but we prefer the Sunday evening Irish sessions. The atmosphere is good, the wait staff is really friendly, and we really like the Irish feel. It's a great place to come on a summer evening and just relax over a slow dinner with cool drinks, especially after a long week at work.
Review Source:Let's see, where do I start? I haven't been here for dinner, so I will say nothing on the food here, maybe that will come later on. Then again, I've lived in Providence for 4 or 5 years now, and have only come here on the weekend for the live bands. The atmosphere here is pretty good, so long as it isn't a 'Girls Night' during the school year. RiRa isn't really a seasonal place since they're indoors, but they do have a nice patio area to sit outside and smoke. For the most part, RiRa is packed on a weekend night, especially when they have live-bands play. Which is hit or miss, but for the most part, they're pretty good. The drinks are fairly priced, so long as your not getting a fancy beer or cocktail, so keep it casual, it is an Irish pub after all.
Review Source:Great food, great true Irish atmosphere, great service and ice cold beer! I love the wings and the late night entertainment is second to none! If you see the band "Run 4 Covers" on the schedule, don't miss it! Pure madness! They also have a special featuring a pound of wings with a Jameson BBQ sauce with a pint of Guinness that's to die for! The GM, "Twiggy" is a great host as well.
Review Source:Don't come here. .. save yourself!
Seriously though, don't come here. I came here after a wedding for the post wedding party and it was horrible. In truth, it was really the bouncers (their rudeness and cranky attitude) that ruined it for me. Sorry that you are 50+ still bouncing and cranky. I have been to Ri Ra's in other cities before and none were this bad. It was filthy inside, as I said the bouncers were rude, and i wasn't keen on the layout. I only got a beer so I can't speak to the quality of the mixed drinks or food. Overall, I have heard of many better options in the area and I would never ever return to this place.
Authentic looking Irish pub with some great Irish classics. Â My wife and I both enjoyed our meals and the friendly staff. Â Several people checked on us and thanked us for coming. Â Our waitress Michelle very friendly very helpful excellent server. Â We will be back for the service food and atmosphere.
Review Source:Don't get me wrong, RiRa is a solid place but average at best. I walk out every time basically thinking to myself "don't love it, don't hate it".
Beer offerings are decent for those of you looking for options beyond Bud products and various Sam Adams recipes. There is a laundry list up on the wall of all the offerings, from IPAs to White Ales to Porters and everything in between. So, I have to give RiRa some kudos there. Disappointing is the limited draught offerings though, which were mostly your Sams and Buds. Boo.
I haven't sat down for food at RiRa's for several years, but I often grab some apps to nosh on. The fried pickles in particular are pretty stellar in my book; the pickle slices are very thick, the batter is tasty, and the 2 sauces they come with kick it up a notch for sure. Their soft pretzels are also pretty good. And, everyone seems to love the nachos.
The atmosphere is okay. Very dark and pub-esque, but it feels forced. I can't describe it. And, I'm not a far of the bar area as it has dividers every few stools which makes it pretty awkward to stand around.
My one other gripe is the parking. Last night I was there for slightly less than 3 hours and paid $11. My bar tab was $20. It just doesn't make it worth it. If you're willing to walk a little bit, park at the mall and save yourself a few bucks.
This seems more of a sit down and eat kind of place than sit at the bar and have a couple drinks. The bar itself is very small. Although, I do love that the bar tenders are actually Irish. Gives it some authenticity as opposed to the slew of other Irish bars in the area.
I haven't eaten there so I can't comment on the food. I know they have bands on the weekends and there is typically a cover. That's probably why I haven't given it more of a chance. Maybe sometime I will stop in and see one of the shows.
So, RiRa is one of my few exceptions to chains, mostly because I only frequent it for lunch or drinks, and it delivers on what it is - a chain pub. They usually have live music, but the late night crowd is not my scene. Â It is a great place to grab drinks, and it is also a nice spot to eat outside for lunch. Unfortunately there are not nearly enough lunch outdoor dining options near where I work. The apps are all good, and I generally like their salads and burgers. On Wednesday they have half off burgers, which is awesome. You can eat for under $10. They also have $5 lunch specials which are very generous. If you are looking for good pub food, or to grab a drink. RiRa delivers.
Review Source:I'm no expert on Irish cuisine, but what I had was DEE-LIC-IOUS! I ordered the Irish Boxty, one of their specialties, which was a thin potato pancake wrapped around chicken, vegetables and gravy. A starchy, warm, Irish burrito from Heaven. As if that weren't enough, nestled beside this taste treat were fluffy, mashed potatoes that danced across my tongue in a creamy, buttery waltz. Yum! The dining room is spacious and clean, and we went on trivia night, which was fun even though we came in 4th. My brain must have been distracted by the food.
Review Source:I've been on the hunt for Kilkenny on top since Seattle ran dry of their supply before I moved. My husband was sweet enough to find this place with Kilkenny on tap. We arrived on a Thursday evening for dinner and were seated right away. I ordered a Kilkenny and was brought...not sure what it was but it wasn't a Kilkenny. Being the polite lady I am, I drank whatever it was anyways, ordered a second and to my delight received a tall, frothy, creamy Kilkenny. Ah Kilkenny, the cream ale of my dreams. I digress.
I was really craving Guinness stew (Fado's in Seattle has amazing Guinness stew) so I ordered the dinner special that was half a salad and a cup of the stew. Honestly I wasn't impressed with either. Husband had a burger of some sort that was also lacking. With smaller portions than we're used to (and no, we're not obese), and not feeling completely satisfied we ordered the sweet potato tots (tater tots made from sweet potatoes) and settled in for the Seahawks game. They were soggy and bland. And our waitress, while having 4 other tables to wait on in the room, was slow to our needs.
I would go eat somewhere else and return here for a pint.
Not sure why I never reviewed RiRa before, but here goes!
Trivia at RiRa is always a good time! The teams can be cutthroat which makes it fun!
The food at RiRa is great! The menu has a lot to offer, but for some reason, I usually go with the burgers. Currently, all burgers are 50% off, which is a great bonus, The drink selection is great, lots to choose from.
RiRa is a great place to grab a drink and a bite with friends!
We came here on a Sunday during our stay in Providence, and were pleasantly surprised by the half off burgers! I got the smokey burger and he got the one with 4 different cheeses - they were great! Fries were nothing to write home about, but a bit sad we didn't try the sweet po-tator tots. Great beer selection and Sunday night karaoke!
Review Source:Notta-bad-sandwich! Â So RiRa in my mind will always be a late night, awesome cover band venue however...they have food too!
I've never had a big entree here but have had a few sandwiches and they were very good and very reasonably priced. Â Lots n' lots of beer available and outside seating.
If you're not up for a fancy-schmancy dinner but want to be downtown I highly recommend RiRa for a sandie!
We stopped in for a restaurant week dinner. Â way too much food oye! Â So first of all restaurant week is amazing 3 course dinner+ a beer for less than $30! Insane... Â
My hubs got the mussels for an app, which unfortunately I don't like mussels and can not review but he really enjoyed them. I got the warm goat cheese dip, which was delicious.
For dinner he had the shrimp and steak which he also enjoyed but felt his steak was slightly over-cooked. Â I had the scallops which were interesting, they were spicy and zesty and covered in blue cheese and bacon. Â Oh my! I have never had scallops prepared in this manner and I think they might be on to something.
I was too stuffed to even have my dessert so I ordered the Irish Soda Bread pudding to go, what a nice treat that was the following night!
Our server was funny and cheerful and made our evening even better.
Oh come on, you have to like RiRa! Â It has a fun atmosphere great food and great drink. Â I love the inside of the place, the patrons for the most part are personable and friendly. Â
I personally enjoy stopping by here on a Sunday afternoon after working a long shift at the hospital and catching a football game with some pub food and a nice drink. Â This is that type of place. Â Friday and Saturday nights are a little more boisterous but that makes it fun.
So originally I wasn't going to write a review of this place because it's really just not my type of place and I didn't want my personal taste to dictate my review.
My boyfriend and I went here this past Saturday morning as it was the meeting place for an scavenger hunt/race called Urban Dare.
The staff was really friendly considering their restaurant had been taken over by a bunch of jocks and nerds who werent really buying anything. The place is pretty big, clean, and not too tacky (considering its a large 'irish' themed pub).
After the race the bar also acted as the finish line. We were in a really great mood from finishing much better then we'd expected to so we decided to celebrate with dinner. We both ordered the hummus wraps with fries and a Newport blueberry beer. Everything was yummy and decently priced and the service was great.
HERES THE PROBLEM.
I found not one, but two large olive pits in my sandwich!!! Luckily I bit into them and didn't choke. I was in such a good mood and pumped up on endorphins that I kind of dismissed it and simply wrote a note about them on a comment card.
When I got home last not, however, I found that my FRONT TOOTH IS CHIPPED!!!!
I am so unhappy.
So yeah, clean, good service, yummy food, but the kitchen staff really needs to be more aware of what they're giving the patrons. Â These were big kalamata olive pits in a wrap. Not even something a person is eating with a fork and can pick around.
Thankfully I didn't choke, but now I have to have dental work?! (and I don't have dental insurance so this is no little thing)
AGHHHHHHHH!
I was here for a hosted party, and it was pretty awesome. (Although, I won't lie, it was weird when the general public were being let back in; it brings a weird crowd).
Their fish and chips were amazing. Maybe I was starving, maybe the chips were actually pieces of potato shaped into chip like things. The batter wasn't anything to rave on about, but did I mention that the fish was real. And it was real tartare sauce! Amaze.
Thank you Providence Yelpers for suggesting RiRa for a group event I ran tonight. We had over 100 people here and the food and service were fabulous. We ordered platters of Banger Bites, BBQ Meatballs, Chicken wings, chicken skewers, shepards pie, and a fruit.cheese platter and a Crudite platter. The food was top notch. The restaurant was a dream to deal with, and everything ran smooth as glass. Dozens of people came up to me and complimented us on how well run the event was. Ri Ra did a fabulous job and I am very grateful to them for a wonderfully succesful evening !!
Review Source:I was here a while back when I was an intern down in the Jewelry District and I would wander over here for $5 burgers for lunch on Wednesdays.
You know, it's a pub? It is what it is and I sort of love it for exactly what it is. I always feel like I have to go on here and respond to other people's reviews, which is sort of funny because I'm really not all about "internet debating".
Regardless, when I was there, the staff was nice and the food was good. I didn't have a beer while I was there because I would go during the middle of the day on Wednesdays and I think coming back smelling like booze would have raised some flags with my supervisors.
A lot of crappy reviews for this place. May the lords of the emerald isle smite you with potato wedged swords!
This place is fantastic. I walk in and I hear a fiddly diddy playing over the speakers. The whole atmosphere is tall dark wooded ancient irish forest. I felt like I was on a leprechaun slave ship sailing across the seas of famine on a rainbow of crying irish eyes.
No I'm not tripping. But seriously, place looked cool. The music that caught my interest led me around the corner to find a group (This is true btw) of 8 people with fiddles legit playing irish music. Age range from 10-65 in the group. They were amazing! I don't know what the hell was going on but the ambiance was great!
Move into the next room and find an open bar and plenty of seating for the large group I'm with. We order our beverages from a nice woman with an irish lilt in her voice.
The reason this place gets 5 stars instead of 4 is (everything after this sentence is alleged and may or may not of happened, feel free to message me if you're the manager to edit it out)
They went above and beyond! It was a Sunday night, and eventually our group of 12 dwindled to 3. We realized we had no beer for the hotel, every place we went stopped serving growlers after 6pm. Shmoozed a bit with the staff and was able to come out with a trashbag of beers (at the higher price of course around 3 bucks a can) but desperate times call for desperate measures! And so accommodating of them to help me out on my friends birthday.
I bet if I needed someone killed I could come here and get the full service for that too!
This place is a sham of an Irish pub.
To me and irish pub should have 3 qualities.
1) Know how to pour a beer
2) Good bar food
3) Tables and seating should be close to allow for a public house (where people meet to drink and talk) atmosphere
I came here because I was writing an article for an online magazine on Irish pub food. When I first walked in the place had a nice vibe to it. It was dark, wood tables, hell even a dart board. I didn't like how dispersed the place was. If I wasn't thinking twice I would think I was drinking in a warehouse.
They had a nice selection of beer. A large selection of Guinness fusion beers, so I order a Black and blue (Guinness and Blueberry Beer). It came out with a perfect head. So we started off on the right foot.
The food was probably the worst food I've had in Providence. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but this is Providence people. Only New York City has anything on us when it comes to food. My two friends order a personal margarita pizza and the blue burger with fries. I ordered the 2 1/2 apps, fried pickles and potato cakes.
The Margarita Pizza:
I purchased better, much better, pizza from the freezer at my grocery store. It was as if they picked up a frozen pie and threw basil and tomato on it. It was luke warm too. The crust was the best part, but it was still a little too chewy for my tastes. (not warm doughy chewy, like dry soft chewy). Most damning of all my friend said " I could do the same thing with an Ellio's pizza."
The Blue Burger:
Was whatever. My friend said it was pretty dry and just came with blue cheese, no sauce no veggies. Kinda weird right? The fries needed a heavy hand of salt. I'm guessing it wasn't the worst, but not what you want to hear for a 10 dollar burger.
Fried Pickles:
When done right they can be the best appetizer on the menu. These had potential, the batter used was solid and crispy. The dips (horseradish and spicy mayo) were on. It was just too thick of a cut on the pickle. They were so big by the time you bite into them the middle was cool.
Potato Cake:
Cold disgusting gruel in pancake form. Not wasting my breath on it.
Ok Ri Ra, please stop calling yourself a pub and just say "You know what I'm an Irish Themed dance club after 9 pm." I won't be back unless Ri Ra becomes a cool spot for 20 somethings. Meaning never.
SMITHWICK'S ON TAP! WOO HOO!
My favorite beer from Ireland, now owned by Guinness (which is fine), on tap - already I like this place. Â Plus, TATOS - yes they are potato chips, but I've only had these in Ireland. Â All kinds of Cadburry candies sent straight from the island as well.
Great menu, even had a vegetarian option (portabella burger) - I KNOW! Â Didn't expect that honestly, didn't hate it either.
Of course, there's the typical Irish spirits - and the food/beer/spirits are authentic. Â I know this because the owner, and half the staff are straight off the boat - honestly.
Ri Ra is a fairly enjoyable spot, especially on nice weekend days/evenings/nights to grab a few drinks and relax.
The view of providence from the outside patio is nice, and they pour a good Guinness. I went here often for the World Cup this summer (when the place was absolutely PACKED) and have come back a few times when I am downtown to grab a few beers.
Nothing too special, but it's a good choice for downtown. The place was a tad rowdy last time I was there late night, if that's your style.
Since it was one of the only places open for lunch on Saturday during Winter Restaurant weeks, I was a little hesitant because I'd only been here for Guinness but I was pleasantly surprised. Â
3 large courses for $13 was a huge bargain, and all of the food we had was great: potato leek soup/potato pancakes, corned beef sandwich/burger w/ candian bacon and baileys mouse/apple tart. Â Yes all this for $26..for two.
Not sure what if any of this you can get on their regular menu, but I wouldn't hesitate to get a sandwich or burger to accompany my Guinness next time I'm here.
Usually.... I invest a real effort to make my reviews interesting/humorous to trick you into continued reading. No sarcasm, no hyperbole this time, but a true 1:1 scale outpouring of emotion.
This...place...sucks+bites+blows+et cetera. I will NEVER come back here. Read on, let me tell you more.
We waited 30 minutes to order from waitress X and waited another 31 minutes afterwards. All 6 occupied tables had food on it, regardless of whether they had come before or after us. The reason for tardiness; invest every available second to harshly wither our burgers into oblivion.
Every burger was garnished with coal. The one wrap we ordered was edible, because there was no cooking involved there. I heroically complained to the waitress and manager? about my burger not being medium, nor well done, but black and crispy as if blessed with fire and brimstone from Mr. Pointy Horms himself. I showed him the burnt cancer underside of my burger. The manager got angry and proceeded to school me all up and down about char-broiling. Direct quote follows:
"...The grill top is hot therefore the burgers burned. It's part of the char-broiling process..."
It was my turn to give him an angry look. I asked if he would make another burger, and he shot back that any burger I would get would have the exact same char. I studied the man in front of me for 25 seconds in silence. Hark!! do I perceive in front of me the rare and hard to find... idiot? Â Did I need to show him that even a one-armed man can flip a burger?
Starting to look a little nervous, the manager broke the silence by asking me if I wanted him to make another attempt. I said no. He then asked me if I wanted my order to be made for take out. I said no. He then walked away. I was livid. Within me was an enlarging node of primal anger that could grant me the strength to punch straight into my victims and withdraw internal organs.
My companions could tell I was upset so they asked for the check. The manager came back and informed me that he had taken it upon himself to take my order off the check. He then proceeded to chum it up with me by asking me if I had any plans for the rest of the day. I extricated myself as soon as I could before my dam of hunger-enhanced anger burst.
0 stars for service. 0 stars for food. 1 star just so yelp will register my review and post it.
As always,a 3 from me means I will go back, but it was not fantastic.
I like the area at the former train station complex, where Luxe Burger, Union Station BrewHouse, Ardeo and others are.  We have never been to the WaterFire which is done nearby, I bet the area is even more fun then.
The beer selection is pretty good.  I do enjoy a nice Smithwick's, and I tried a new ( for me ) draft, a "KilKenny's", which I liked as well.
I ordered corned beef and cabbage.  I think it is one of those dishes that one likes the way one's Grandmother made it, and all subsequent plates of it are measured up against that.
The best way to serve the cabbage is I think, boiled in the meat water, but that I suppose would be a pain in the a** to pull off in a restaurant.  I loathe it when the cabbage is boiuled in plain water.  In the case of Ri Ra, it was "braised", in butter I think, and was pretty tasty.
The meat was too fatty for me.  The way I like it, all the fat has boiled off into the water, one does not get any fat blobs to spit out into the napkin.  The parsley sauce that was on it was ok, subtle, but it hid the fat blobs so I could not cut them out in advance.
Service was excellent.  I felt like one oyster even though the menu only offered them by half a dozen minimum, and they did me up one with iced plate and all.
Hey we had a few great times here hanging out with friends and listening to the live music. I heard they have slamming food but never got a chance to eat here. You usually have to pay for parking in the lot which sucks but it's worth the good time.
Drinks are plentiful and the bar tenders are true Irish-men, they are generous on the hard stuff...trust me.
Can one find salvation in a bar? Â If so, Ri Ra is my personal Jesus. Â I was out in Providence with my mom and grandmother on the annual "see all the relatives before they kick off" tour and, after 10 hours of visiting, I needed a stiff beverage...or 5. Â This, being the only place in the immediate area open until 2:00AM on a Sunday (a blessing for someone still on west coast time), heeded the call, in spades.
Praise Ri Ra!
The crowds here were the trashiest I've seen in months, but after getting over our initial disgust we had a blast. Very crowded, but great drunken-yuppie-people-watching (I have seen more popped collars and backwards hats in one room than I care to ever see again), bad dancing, and good music (for dancing, not really what I care to listen to), aside from that absolutely REVOLTING cover of  "Closer" the band did... wow.
Brief frightening moment when one of those barely conscious yuppies approached me to tell me the song playing was written about me.... though it took me half an hour to figure out what the hell he was trying to say. Good times, good times. Drinks were also good.
sure it's a chain dressed up in the guise of authenticity - but what can I say? I'm a fan. Â It's not necessarily a place that I seek out now that I've moved away and become a "grown up," but Ri-Ra has been graced by my elegant (and sober) presence a few times since my departure from my beloved Providence.
If you're into Trivia - they run a great night here - better than most other venues in the area. If you're a single lady looking to meet some yuppy guys, here's a tip - they seem to swarm and lose all inhibition on trivia nights (I was never down, but who knows, some girls like the smell of money).
Decent pub offerings, spacious, good place to bring the family or your friends - great selection of whiskeys too. One of the few places where you can find Paddy's this side of the pond.
The decor is decent -- paint-textured walls, Irish quotes painted on & more wood than you can find in a forest. Â I went there on Saturday night with hubby, my brother, & another friend. Â We were seated in the back in a roundabout booth - very cool for hanging out, but not so good if you actually want to be involved in whatever's going on in the bar. Â They had a waitress, which I thought was a bit odd since it was a Saturday night & there was a band playing....but that's just me. Â She was ok - nothing out of the ordinary & though we were really only grabbing one round, seemed like she got the hint & let us do our thing.
Unlike most trips out, I did not get a chance to check out the bathroom - so no details about that. Â Definitely a place I would probably check out again for a drink - if I'm ever in the area again.
I don't think I have visited this place enough to write a review but I have to mention that "Shepherd's pie fries" is f-in' gorgeous. I think it's the greatest fries creation.
Nice beer selections. It gets absolutely packed during water fire season so if you want to relax and dine, avoid those time.
