Great sushi with wonderful service! A family owned business with a passion for pleasing their guests. The staff was very helpful in helping with menu choices aimed at what I liked. We had the Fire Dragon, do try it! It was delicious and beautifully presented! The Mexican roll was also delicious and spicy but spicy good, not grab the fire hose and put out the fire in my mouth type. Definitely worth the 40 minutes it took for us to get there!

A few days ago, I was in the mood for some sushi and decided to stop by this place.
I was ready for some good sushi but wanted to try a new place. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I got a vibe of a Chinese restaurant.
I checked outside to make sure I was at the right place.
I was waited a few minutes after I got in. It seemed weird because there were not many customers but yet, it took them a while to take me to a table.
As I was sitting, I was struck by the smell of Chinese food. The thought of eating sushi completely disappeared from my mind.
I checked out the menu and the menu of their Asian cuisine was more interesting than their sushi.
I decided to order the Beef with Hot Peppers and the sushi appetizer which consisted of tuna, salmon, ebi, and a california roll. It was a good idea that I ordered the sushi as an appetizer because after tasting them, I did not want to order them as my meal.  The salmon was dry and the tuna seemed frozen. Perhaps it wasn't frozen, but I was not getting a fresh tuna taste.
I dug into my main course of the beef and hot peppers and found it greasy but tasty. I would appreciate less use of grease but the meal was good.
As I left, I read the restaurant's name again. Raku SUSHI... Hmm...
When I'm in the mood for Chinese food, I'll make sure to come, but as for the sushi, I'm not sure.

No Natto and no Uni (never available as not enough customer demand), says enough. Nice waitress, good service, non-Japanese chef and personnel. Typical American style nigiri sushi with way too much rice and no wasabi. Did not try the monster rolls, but if you like them, they have them. American taste and popularity of sushi is killing good sushi slowly.

Raku was one of my first introductions to sushi.  Because of this, I assumed it was amazing as a result of me being new to the sushi world.

    Wrong.

Four years and about 50 sushi places later, Raku is by far my favorite! It actually is just really good sushi.

The price is reasonable.  The staff is friendly.  I would love to see this place packed every night of the week.

MUST TRY: The volcano roll.  If you haven't tried it, you have not yet experienced the full glory of Raku.

It was yet another solo sushi date for this lone wolf. Looking to escape the monsoon happening outside, I sought refuge (and piping hot green tea) inside an empty Raku.

I was greeted promptly and with big smiles from the staff of Raku and quickly sat at small booth in the front dining area. The decor is fun with paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, a salt water fish tank and geisha statue with stacked sake barrels near the entrance. And my server had a contagious smile and everyone working was friendly and welcoming.

I started with a standard bowl of miso soup. It wasn't the best miso I'd ever had and I was a bit disappointed that the bowl was really only barely half full, but it was only $2 and helped warm me up none the less, also helped along by the whole pot of hot tea they left for me on the table. I drank so much, it felt like I could've floated out of there.

My next course involved my go-to spicy tuna roll and a light avocado roll. I felt like the spicy tuna was okay. Not better, pretty good, but not a star and not at all spicy. Then again, it looked like some of their more signature rolls were where the big show was, but I avoided as I'm not huge on tempura but for my next visit, I think I'll definitely break down and give it a try. They look really well done and other reviewers seem to have enjoyed them. The avocado roll was simple but great. Creamy with plenty of avocado and not the kind of veggie roll where you really only taste the rice.

I left stuffed for only $14 and some change and happy with my decision to break from my rainy day activities and errands to be greeted with smiles that would stay fresh in memory for the rest of the otherwise grey and dreary day.

Love this place- I really wish we didn't live so far, because then we'd come way more often. The owners are so sweet- they always recognize us . Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious. My favorite is the Beef Udon Soup- it is seriously the best broth I've ever had. I worry that they don't get enough business, because they are always near-empty, but I hope they stay in business for a long long time!

I eat here all the time and just got around to writing a review. The owners are soo nice and the sushi is wonderful. I recommend the house special the fire dragon. Overall this place does not look it but has some of the best sushi around. The owners also care about their product which is good.
Try it out and you will not be disappointed.

My friend and I were on the hunt for a local sushi place to satisfy our sushi addiction, we have tried a few places but nothing rocked our worlds till we tried Raku. The atmosphere is pretty nice, and contemporary. The service could have been better, but that was because there was only one waitress on staff at the time we visited. It took a while to get our food but it was WELL worth the wait. By far the best california rolls and shrimp tempura I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and tasty and it wasn't too salty like I find many sushi places to be. I will definitely be back to Raku very soon.

We went here for New Year's when our favorite sushi spot in town was closed for the day. Our group of five ordered 7 different rolls and an assortment of sashimi, and it was delicious! The rice to fish ratio were well-balanced and everything tasted fresh. I enjoyed the barley tea and the sake was nice. Prices are reasonable and the service is pleasant enough.

Loved this place. The service was fantastic! REALLY great service - they were so nice to us, I mean, sure, we were the only 2 patrons in the place in a Sunday night but the waitress was just sweet as a button. The food is right up there with other good sushi places in the area. I'd say it's a LITTLE bit more pricey than other places near by - but I've never been one to  gripe about the price of sushi. Quite the contrary; when i see (just down the road from Raku) signs for $1.99 sushi, my stomach turns. No thanks. I'll pay $20 for my raw fish and I'll like it! :)
The shrimp dumplings are really flavorful and the sushi combos are a great deal! I LOVED the M12. We will be going back!

I am SO glad a friend recommended this place!  It's a hidden gem on Odgen Ave that  I never knew was there.  Quality sushi, excellent sake, affordable pricing, and the service was charming!  The tempura vegetables were light and perfectly cooked.  My boyfriend loved the sweet potato tempura and I can't even get him to eat sweet potatoes at home!  Will definitely be recommending the place to family and friends!

Nice place to go for Sushi, everything is fresh and the rice is not mushy at all. Staffs are very friendly. Don't forget to try the Japanese silky tofu ( silky fried soft tofu with garlic salt on top sprinkles with some peppers, scallions and thinly sliced lettuce).  Yum

Great sushi spot in Naperville!  After a long morning of shopping at the outlets in Aurora, we searched Yelp for a nearby sushi restaurant and we were led to Raku!  Our server was super friendly and recommended one of their special rolls and it was amazing-the plate came out with flames!  The Spicy Tuna and Mexican rolls were also very good and the house salad with ginger dressing comes in a very generous portion size!  If we're in the area again, we'll definitely return to Raku!

Great lunch place, I recommend the lunch specials that has a total of 16 pieces, more than a serving in a sense, but good for a 200 lb guy.  I am suprised that not more people have checked this place out at lunch!

Came here for lunch with some lovely people from work today.  I'd been once before a few years ago and remember it being fairly average.  Wasn't sure if it was going to be good or not but I ended up being pleasantly surprised.  The lunch specials are a decent deal and I have to say I really liked my mushroom rolls - don't always see those places and I was glad to be able to get them as part of the veg roll lunch plate today.  The only fish I tried was on the Blue Lobster roll, which was lobster salad with avocado and asparagus and tuna on top - the fish was pretty fresh and the roll itself had a decent flavor to it.  Good service, though they seemed to rush us a bit to get our order when we first came in, and it seemed clean, which I appreciate.  Also, we went late in the lunch hour so it was pretty empty around 1:30 - not sure if it gets more crowded earlier but it was nice to have the place to ourselves.  Pretty sure I'd go back if the opportunity arose, and perhaps I'd try some other items from the menu.

Good sushi, udon and in fact whole menu is pretty darn solid.  Nice staff and friendly enough.  Not real busy most times I go there ... but as long as they stay in business I'm a frequent visitor.  Kids love it.

I wasn't a huge sushi fan until I went to Raku. I've been here multiple times now and all I can say is WOW! Everything is fresh and made perfectly. Service is great and prices are right where they should be.

They also have excellent udon and fried rice. Lets not forget their fresh smoothies that are only made with fruits and blended ice.

    Highly recommended!!

I visited, when they first opened. That was quite some time ago. I did have to wait a very long time for my sushi and was tempted to leave. but it was brought on a gold boat. So that was impressive. The sushi was very scrumptious. I think I was just very turned off by the wait time. I haven't returned, I always wonder why. Because I have had quite a very bad sushi experiences over the years. I never seen anyone there though, It always kinda looks closed. I hope they're performance hasn't gone down hill, because It was very good sushi and I would like to return again to a good experience.

Came for dinner w/ the husband on Jan. 2, 2012.

GOOD FOOD, FRIENDLY SERVICE, REASONABLY PRICED, CLEAN, FREE PARKING!  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

+ Super friendly service. We were greeted as soon as we came in & we sat down right away.
    + Nice ambiance
    + Clean
+ Price was worth it because of good food & ample servings: $13.95 for Chicken teriyaki dinner set (comes w/ miso soup, salad, tempura shrimp, tempura vegetables, and ice cream); $12.95 for Makimono Roll (made up of eel roll, cruchy shrimp roll, California roll, and rainbow roll)
+ They have lunch specials (bento box & sushi) from 11:30am to 3PM
+ Fruit smoothies with tapioca pearls (YUM!)
+ In the mood for Chinese food?  Tom (the owner?) also serves specialty Asian dishes. Check out their website    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frakusushi.com%2Findex.html&s=95fa36187421e78ceba6e7e103da740b9562dcea96f4f4630084ace35a4bc4b8" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://rakusushi.com/ind…</a>

Awesome food and drink, very friendly staff, prompt service, and not too expensive! If you order enough sushi they bring it out to you in this awesome boat shaped platter which is always a highlight of my meal. I dock it a star because for some reason every time I come here and get the spider roll, it tastes really fishy, almost spoiled. Not sure why that is, everything else tastes great.

The atmosphere and decor is wonderful, they have a big saltwater fish tank which is nice to look at.

I'm not sure why this place has such high reviews. Yelp has finally lead me down the wrong road. We went on a Friday night at 7pm and was surprised to find an empty parking lot/restaurant.  How can you have fresh fish at a sushi restaurant with little turn-over?  I guess people consider freshly thawed to be fresh. For my money, I would rather drive 45 minutes to Mitsuwa and get sushi - at least you'll pay $10 vs. $25 at Raku for worst quality. Naperville yelpers need their  taste buds checked!

My son and I were using the Monical feature on the Yelp app, and happened upon this restaurant today for lunch.

I ordered the lunch special, I think it was G (new special) & my son ordered E (the Sashimi special). Service was very fast. The Miso had good flavor and was very hot. Salads were good. The Sashimi was very fresh and in large pieces, which made my son very happy. He didn't like the fact that there was a piece of imitation crab meat. Otherwise, he really liked it.

My Sushi rolls were very good. I had one of those White Dragon rolls and it was better than I expected. I normally don't like to get the tempura because of it being fried, but this was very delicate & a little sweet.

My son was shocked I actually finished everything on my plate, including a piece of his Sashimi.

There is a TV in the place, but you can not see it from the seating area, only the bar. And it's volume was down, so as not to be distracting. I also like the music in this restaurant, quite, no words, oriental flavor...perfect

Wish we lived closer to this one....

I promised my wife sushi for her birthday.  Instead, I surprised her with a houseful of family members, great Filipino and Chinese food, and some excellent ice cream cake.  The next morning, she flips over to tell me:  "You still owe me sushi!".  What an addict.

That's the start of why we made our way to Raku Sushi.

1st off, pricing on their sushi/sashimi is quite reasonable.  All orders are for TWO pieces of sushi, so perfect for a date, and far better priced than most sushi joints.  On my personal experience of quality scale, it is squarely a medium, to mid-high level quality of fish.  Ordered up our standards:

Tamago - Slightly sweet egg, super tender.  Good start.
Sake - Nice fat lines, breaks with each bite perfectly without stringiness, no fishiness, and light flavor.
Unagi - Meaty with just a little bit of crisp on the side.  Just how we like it.
Ama Ebi - The meat wasn't as sweet as I hoped, and the deep fried head wasn't as seasoned as I would like... but it was tasty nonetheless, and a very reasonable price at $8 for two pieces.

We didn't try any special rolls, so I can't comment to those.  Looked interesting, so we may be back to try again.  Did the standard spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll, both were good, but pretty standard priced.

Note:  It was very slow, but the sushi chefs placed our order on a beautiful boat to be eaten from!  Don't know if this is common for them, but excellent presentation!

Figured we wanted a big more food to balance out the menu, so we noticed that a few customers had received a separate Chinese food menu.  I requested that menu and ordered up some string beans with pork and fried anchovies.  (That's one dish).  String beans were perfectly crisp and cooked, and the dish was an excellent way to round out the meal.

Verdict:  Very friendly service, sushi/sashimi is super affordable, the rolls are standard priced, and a regular priced Chinese menu to round out the meal.  A good standard place to get a bite of sushi.  We're fans, and we'll be back.

If you're looking for fancy decor and a trendy vibe, you won't find it here. However if you want solid sushi in the western suburbs give it a try. The Sashimi appetizer was fresh and diverse in flavors and the specials, while not revolutionary, were perfectly good. Props on the Volcano Roll, which features smoked salmon and a tangy mayo. Less successful was the Red Dragon special which promised much more spice than was delivered. The unagi roll was quite tasty but the real star is the shrimp shumai. Perfectly wonderful. One warning, the space formerly held a Baker's Square and it hasn't improved much in terms of atmosphere. Just enjoy the food.

This place is amazing.  They have an awesome 250gal salt water tank place in the dining room.  But, aside from that, I am a pretty big sushi fan and I'd have to say that this is one of the best sushi joints I've been to in the area.  Took the g/f and a friend of mine here today and we all really enjoyed the food.  Atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff is friendly.  One of the owners, even took the time to talk about the salt water fish with us as well.

Bottom line is that this is a great place to enjoy sushi and the price isn't too bad at all.  I highly recommend this place.

I was fairly impressed with Raku Sushi, considering they are right across the street from Yamado, which is a fairly well-established sushi place.  Although this restaurant is Chinese-owned, their menu is firmly Japanese with a wide variety.  They don't just have sushi, but also ramen, Japanese-style curry (milder than Indian and served with rice), and other Japanese dishes.  I was most surprised to see curry listed; not a lot of Japanese restaurants include it, so that's cool.

If you remember the location as Bakers Square, you will be amazed at the interior transformation.  It's now a very spacious, clean layout with modern decor.  The service was very good; staff was attentive and friendly.

I had a thai iced tea which was good, but missing milk?  My boyfriend and I had a Love Boat for 2 (which was the perfect amount for two people!) which consisted of a selection of nigirizushi, sashimi, and 3 maki (I believe they were crunchy shrimp, spicy tuna, and california).  The fish was well portioned and seemed fresh.  The maki were relatively small, but you know what, I think that's good!  I don't want to fill up on rolls, just gimme those big slabs of fish!!

I hope that Raku does well; it seems like whenever I pass by them (which is atleast once a week) the parking lot is fairly empty and it wasn't packed the Friday evening that we went, but it seems like they're making an honest effort, and most importantly, their sushi is very well done!

This is a new favorite for us and we've become regulars. It's a bit of a hidden gem since the restaurant sits a little ways back from the street but the food is great and the service is friendly.

We're fans of the sushi, and they have some great items we haven't seen elsewhere (try the fire dragon, which is served flaming!) We've also tried the teriyaki and bento boxes, also pretty good. They also have a nice selection of sake.

The restaurant seems to be family owned and the people who run it are friendly and remember their regular customers.

This has become a favorite and lately we've been there almost once a week.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy at all and the looks on the inside were like a Denny's and a Sushi restaurant had a baby.  I immediately got nervous.

The food and drinks more than made up for it!  Yum! Everything we ordered was great.  The drinks were mixed well and we cleaned our plate.. or boat in this instance. The servers were very friendly.

My lesson: don't judge a sushi restaurant by its cover.  I've been to some swanky sushi joints and had awful sushi *coughbluegingercough*.  This place was good.
    We will be back!

If you live in Naperville or surrounding areas, you have to try this place. We just moved from the city to Naperville and were pleased to find this new addition amidst fairly plain restaurants on Ogden Avenue.

We order take-out from Raku at least once every two weeks as an alternative to cooking or other fast food choices.

The sushi is pretty tasty and fresh. I love that they have a larger Japanese menu. The boxed sets, the udon, tempura, and appetizers (try the lotus root chips) are all good, fairly portioned, and reasonable--especially during lunch.

The ambience is very nice (decor is beautiful) and the owners and servers are very friendly.

I still can't believe the owners transformed a divey Baker's Square (I used to hang out in my high school days) into this aesthetically pleasing sushi restaurant. While it's a gem on Ogden Avenue, I'm not sure if Raku is faring as well as it might on a trendier strip of restaurants like in Downtown Naperville. So, I hope it stays, because it is conveniently located and worthwhile!

I had a spur of the moment decision to give this newer place a try.  Menus and prices were available online, and prices seem reasonable, so I placed a take-out order for a few favorite nigiri-shusi and a few different spicy rolls.  I was delighted with welcoming pick-up service, and surprised with the care and presentation provided in a large party-tray style container.
The quality was outstandingly fresh, and the quantity/cuts were very generous.  I don't believe I've seen pieces of Hamachi, Toro, and Sake this large.  The rolls were at least as good as my usual sushi house, but these guys are much closer to me.  I believe the overall value was enough to consider Raku my choice, and since the dining room looked comfortable, and we'll have to try dine-in next time.

The staff here is extremely friendly and very accomodating.  The owner doesn't act like she's too good for you, she actually talks to you and makes you feel welcome.  There are a couple other sushi restaurants in the area, but this is well worth it.  Since I work nearby, I typically just go for lunch.  For under $10 you get 4 different rolls, a small salad and miso soup.  It is more than enough sushi to fill you up.  If you were to get that for dinner that would be at least $20- easy.

Overall Raku Sushi is my main choice out from the handful I have to choose from.

For what it's worth, this place is pretty nice. I'm used to eating really expensive mediocre sushi in the suburbs so eating at RAKU sushi was actually fairly decently priced!

Now I'm not an "expert" on sushi so I couldn't be able to tell you in terms of the QUALITY if it was good sushi or not. However, I know that if you get the combination platters, they come with a about 3 or 4 different rolls for only $10! That's pretty nice! Also, my husband and I ordered the Tropical roll with mango and it was really good!

Now the table next to me ordered a HUGE LOVE BOAT SUSHI platter with about 10 different rolls or so and it looked so delicious! The prices for the huge platters range from $60-$100 dollars.

I would definitely come to this place again. Perhaps for lunch since their BENTO boxes are pretty cheap and sounds good.

Since I do not think Naperville got too many variety of Japanese restaurant, so I still think it's a good idea to have Raku Sushi, honestly the food didn't impress me a lot. Udon soup noodles and tempura wasn't taste too good, I had some sushi rolls and I think it's not too bad! They do have a extensive menu of different variety of sushi, bento, ramen, remen, etc.  Price is standard which I think it's match with the quality of food.  Service was pretty good! Raku do have their lunch menu and the price is pretty cheap.

Atmosphere is not bad, just I think they must improve the quality of food if they want to gain more business in that area.

Flew home this morning and my sister took me out to lunch at Raku. I haven't had sushi in a while; the Twin Cities has a lot of sushi joints but I feel weird about eating sushi in the middle of Minnesota. Chicago-land area sushi is all right, since O'Hare international airport is close by and I assume the fish doesn't spend too much time traveling.

Being housed in a former Baker's Square is not ideal. The decor is a little kitschy at times, like the half-size geisha doll and taiko drums. But I like the plastic food replicas - although they are not as high quality as I have seen in Japan, it's rare to see it in Naperville. However, you can tell they tried, so I'm not too bothered by it.

The space is really big. I think they could do better by creating private rooms for parties and stuff.

I thought the service was excellent. Our waiter came by a lot to refill our water, add more tea to the teapot, and ask how we were enjoying our food. He seemed genuinely interested in how we were doing. Sorry to hear that Cindy K had a bad time; did the management do anything in response to the tempura?

I ordered Lunch D, which includes four pieces each of spicy tuna and California rolls, a selection of Chef's choice nigiri, and a salmon skin hand roll. The salmon skin roll was huge! It also had more salmon than salmon skin, but it was delicious. They added a lot of green onion sprouts, which counteracts the richness of the salmon. I avoided the Cali rolls, since I don't really like them. The nigiri was great; although the rice could have been packed a little tighter, the quality of the fish was superb.

My sister ordered the Lunch B, which also has the spicy tuna and California rolls in addition to some tempura rolls. All lunches come with salad and miso soup. The miso soup is good, but the salad needs work. Iceberg? Green leaf does not cost that much more. Also, the dressing was a little oily and not as gingery as I like.

My mom ordered the unagi udon, which she liked. There was a generous piece of broiled eel. She said that the udon noodles were still chewy and not too soft, which is what you should find in udon. I thought there could have been more noodles, though, since she finished it all. Usually my mom does not eat a lot.

I was also interested in the sushi rice burger, but I really wanted sushi. It sounds like a novelty item for people who don't want fish or anything really Japanese, which is thoughtful.

The lunches were super cheap. The udon and my sister's sushi set were $9 and mine was $12, since it had more sashimi in it. I think it's a good deal. I would come back here to try their dinner or something. Definitely a good lunch spot.
