Everytime on the way to visit Alexandra's (the retail place that sells the most delicious potato pierogis ever!), I walk past this little place called Retro Cafe so I thought I should stop in and try it. Â The lighting is very cool and the seating is nice. Â It's a small place and seems like the kind of place where business gets taken care of in the back, which is actually kind of cool. Â I was a bit disappointed they didn't have tea lattes, but the one waitress they had there was very accommodating, and she found me a chai tea. Â The best part was the old, drunk guy blowing kisses at me. Â Girls, be forewarned, there are a lot of guys that seem to frequent the place, but they are a bit on the drunk side, but they didn't bother me. Â The potato pierogis were very tasty and they seemed to have quite a selection of Polish dishes and pizzas so I think it's worth a stop back in there sometime.
Review Source:This restaurant was featured in a book called POLISH CHICAGO. Â My husband and I tried it last year and were not disappointed. Â The people were welcoming and attentive. Â The food was outstanding which led us to wonder why there were so few people there. Â I think it is a "gem" yet to be discovered. Â Last week we took visiting relatives from Utah to Retro Cafe and they were very impressed. Â All of us are of Polish descent and have had our moms and grandmothers cook the traditional way...so...we are accustomed to good Polish cooking. Â
Everyone enjoyed the meals which ranged from pierogi platters to pork cutlets. Â It was a Thursday...women received complimentary glasses of wine. Â We wish them good luck!
