Great diner. Service is good and the good is what you would expect from a diner. They are usually packed on Sunday mornings.

Great North Jersey diner with generous portions. I was surprised at the size of my omelette!

after riding bike in wood dale county park, I found this diner by yelp.
The price is really cheap, for dinner combo include one drink, soup , salad bar, one  main dish, and desert...it is about 16 dollars which is very good price. Salad bar is smaller than other diner but it is fine. For desert, you can select pudding or ice cream.
The taste of food is just ok and the service is below average.

I've been to diners all around the state and I was disappointed by this one. In comparison, service was below average. I was in a group of 7, our orders came out at different times, from the first order arriving to the last was about 15 minutes, some people were finishing their food as some were starting. Refills for our drinks were not existent at our table. We also felt rushed as the last people to get their at the table the waitress gave us the check. Service is just as important as the quality of food.
This is your typical diner food and its average at most. French toast was dry and the pancakes were not fluffy and a little rubbery. Chocolate chip pancakes lacked the chocolate chips. The food that my group had I would say was cheap buffet quality- not the Jersey quality you would expect.
I originally gave this diner 2 stars, but after thinking, I dropped it down to one star based on my overall group experience and how everyone else was served.

Best dinner around  and great prices. Service is usually good, it really depends on who you get. Really busy  Sat & Sun mornings for breakfast  but it's worth the wait.

This was my second time eating at the Park Ridge Diner and it was just as bad as the first time. It was absolutely horrible and I'm not sure why and how it is still in business. 2 years when I first came here, I ordered the broiled salmon and specifically asked that they make sure it is not dry. It came out dry and hard as a rock. I am not sure why I came back to this diner but I guess I wanted to assume it was just a bad night, but tonight's experience was just as bad if not worse.
They sat us (party of 6) in the back area by the bathrooms - an area of 2 rows of booths that resemble being in a very tight train snack compartment.  I stupidly ordered the salmon again and once more specifically stated to please make sure it is not cooked too much. It came out so dry and tasted fishy, clearly a frozen piece of fish that was a 1/4 of an inch thick. They put a sliced ring of red-dyed vegetable on top of curly yellow lettuce to make the plate look "pretty". That really made me lose my appetite!
My son's roasted turkey looked like it had been baking in the son for the last week and when they served it to him, the cup with the YELLOW gravy spilled all over him because it was placed at the edge of the plate and trying to pass a plate over a very crowded area is never easy. My husbands trout was uneatable and he returned it. We later found out that they charged him for the salad bar (which came with the meal) which I think is in poor taste considering it came with the meal and the only reason he didn't eat the meal is because it was awful. Speaking of the salad bar- disgusting.
Other things: the bread was stale, they never refilled our water glasses and when I ordered a side of spaghetti at the end of this disastrous meal because my kids were unhappy with their choices and were hungry, I had to laugh. The spaghetti was overcooked and waterlogged.
Such an awful place -your choice of course, but if you want to eat something halfway decent, this is not the place.

Best in the Pascack Valley but not in NNJ ... But quality all around.  Can't go wrong here ... Top shelf diner service ... Throw anything at them ... Well done bacon, mayo on side, egg whites ... They have yet to F up.  The host might be the owner ... Bottom line they care and do it right and you won't be disappointed.

Pretty good food, and the owners are nice. The service can definitely use some improvement (for some of the waiters), but all in all, a good experience with good food. Recommended.

Used to be a good diner with a great location, now due to remodeling costs the Ridge is an average diner with a great location. Staff is usually rude, and of questionable sobriety.Although I will agree that they do a few things well, such as the combo wrap, I must admit that if the American Dream diner were in Park Ridge, this place would be a gas station.

This diner's worst offense is that they NEVER HAVE the best thing there (PB&J cookies).

I first went here awhile back when I was craving a simple cheese quesadilla, nothing fancy, which every diner has right? WRONG.  They make wrap sandwiches.... and certainly have cheese on the premises, no? Well, would it be too much to ask to combine these two things to make something as simple as a plain cheese quesadilla?  I guess so because when I ordered it the waiter declared that they do not make those and when I questioned him about it he basically just walked away perturbed as if I had asked for something too difficult and out of the ordinary, so I got up and left.

The second time was New Years day.  I was craving a delicious hearty breakfast to alleviate my hangover and this diner was closest in proximity to where I had stayed the night.  The wait to be seated was of course long which I had expected but when we got to the table, the dishes of the previous customers had not yet been completely cleared. Gross.  The waitress started out strong, coming over immediately to take our drink orders and sending a bus boy to clear.  Another waiter brought over my juice but not my boyfriends coffee which was supposed to come with his meal.  Fifteen minutes went by and the waitress had not taken our order.  Again, it was very busy but the order is honestly the quickest part (for a two person party especially).  She finally came over to take our orders and my boyfriend reminded her of the coffee.  Another 10 minutes goes by and he still hasn't even been offered a water, let alone coffee.  No other waiters seemed to enter our area so he got up and walked over to where the coffee was to ask the person standing there to please pour him a cup.  Now that we settled that problem another 10 minutes had passed, then 10 more, and yet another 10.  Really? 40 or so minutes to get two orders of omelet, home fries, and toast???  Clearly our order was forgotten and our waitress had been missing for so long we thought that maybe she had clocked out and didn't pass her orders on to anyone else.

Finally, my boyfriend got up and went up front to the manager to complain about our service/the absurd wait for food.  Customers in other sections who arrived 20 minutes after us were now finishing their meals and leaving and we hadn't even started.  The manager immediately went to the back to see what was going on and not more than 2 minutes later our waitress magically reappeared with our food in hand "apologizing" for the wait..."it is New Years Day after all" Ummm no.  The food served to us had obviously been left under the heating lamps for an extended period of time.  The omelet was dry and flavorless, same goes for the home fries and the toast was barely toasted and had large slabs of hard cold butter on it.  I am ashamed to say I ate at least half because I was ravenous and just needed food in my stomach, not knowing how long it might take to wait at another diner.  I was so displeased with the experience I had here.  Management barely had a response to what we had to say.  I can honestly say this was the worst waiting service I have ever received and possibly the worst breakfast I've ever tasted.

O, and also as we were walking out and across the parking lot to our car to leave with the most unsatisfied dining experience of our lives, we were naturally complaining about said diner.....I kid you not a couple pulled up next to where we were standing hearing us complain and asked us how our service/ food was.  We told them and it turns out that they had the same experience in a different section in regards to awful service and terrible tasting food. STEER CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely the best diner in North New Jersey.  I have been coming here since I was a child and now as a adult still regularly enjoyed and get excited to go!  The menu is HUGE and the food is even better.  Service is great.  They make you feel at home.

We stopped for a snack at this diner. The atmosphere is pretty typical diner. Everything appears to be clean. We tried to order the spring rolls but found out five minutes later found out they were out. Instead we ordered nachos and buffalo wings. The drinks took ten minutes to arrive. Service was very SLOOOOOWW. Both wings and nachos were mediocre at best. Wings lacked taste and were fatty. Nachos were nothing special.

Haven't been to The Ridge in a long time. I went for dinner on a Friday evening with a few friends. It was mostly empty but the server did the bare minimum. Never had the coffee refilled and didn't take the flat soda off the bill. Food was average at best. Maybe it was an off night or maybe it's because I used to go there after a night of drinking but I'm not eager to go back.

Breakfast on a Sunday morning can be a scary noisy mess at some New jersey diners...but our experience here was fine with no problems. First of all..you go to a place like the Ridge to eat..not dine. move 'em in and move 'em out. seating folks appeared to be quite organized...service a tad gruff but fine..and food, while not gourmet, filled us up at a reasonable price. Wife had the banana nut pancakes(2) and raved about them. I had a sausage and cheese omelet..it wasn't very large and was a tad too overdone and dry....but it was tasty. Wife very impressed our waitress left the pot of coffee..not hunting down servers for more java. place was mobbed...diners seemed respectful and not loud....in/out quick..decent grub....can't go 4 stars but it was fine and dandy.

This place is godawful. I did my best to give it a second, and then third chance during my brief stay in park ridge. Generally, older individuals frequent this establishment. Service is pretty spotty. The one 'ok' meal I had was one morning for breakfast. The two other meals I ate here were for dinner and it's almost as if they strive to serve not so fresh food. Everything tastes old and just thrown together. The salad bar may be the best thing they have going for them, especially that delicious ranch dressing. The managers always stand watch over the restaurant like guards and even watch people eat; kind of strange. I grabbed one of their giant chocolage chip cookies to go on my way out as a final effort to give them a chance but unfortunatey it was so dry it just crubled all over plus it tasted horribly stale. Unfortunatley, there aren't many good dining options in this town but you will be better off with fast food.

I've been coming here since elementary school. It's probably the only diner I frequent regularly in NJ. The service here is really a hit or miss. The scary lady with the fake hair, gapped teeth, and bright red lipstick is the worst. After you've been a customer for so many years though, you kinda get used it...it almost has its own charm.

Portions here are generous and your cup of coffee is never left empty. Come here for breakfast (the "pancake sandwich" is SO GOOD--a sausage omelette sandwiched between two pancakes) and the lunch specials. I'm a big fan of the chicken salad sandwich with bacon when it's available. Of course, they specialize in really bad for your heart food like grilled cheese with canadian bacon, the combo platter, and burgers with fries. Milkshakes are solid too.

If you want a NJ diner experience at really reasonable prices, The Ridge is the way to go.

Some of the WORST SERVICE I've ever experienced! I've been here multiple times and experienced multiple members of the wait staff. Only one was adequate. The others will take your order, bring you your drinks after 5 minutes, drop off your food, and disappear. They don't come around to see if you need anything. One waitress didn't even bring us our check. She just vanished. I'm done with this dump. Their food is the same standard diner food you'll find anywhere else. Six of their booths are located in a small hallway right next to the bathroom. The host will always either seat you there or right by the door.

Head over to Westwood if you want a local diner.

Very average. Big portions. Full for lunch, even at 2:30.  Service was fine.  We all left food as we could not finish. Think hard roll with something inside (one had veggie, one pastrami, one cheesesteak) with a fried side - veggie was the best and the cheesesteak was more of a roast beef sandwich.  Waiter did not even recommend something to eat when asked.

Went here for breakfast and was very pleased.

Ambiance is classic diner. Very clean with good parking.

Wait Staff was very nice and attentive. My coffee cup was never empty.

Kid friendly atmosphere with high chairs available.

Food was delicious. Had the greek omletw and banana nut pancakes. Pancakes were light and fluffy with just the right amount of crisp around edges. Omlette was very tasty with fresh ingredients.

Price was a deal at $18

    Would recommend

This is one of my favorite diners to go to. Combo platter, tri platter or breakfast any time is the best. And pairing that with a milkshake is always a strong move if you have the stomach for both. The place changes maybe once every 10 years and sometimes, it looks like the waiters are stuck in time.

Looking for a good dessert? Definitely check out a hot fudge brownie sundae. The brownie is nice and warm with a bunch of vanilla ice cream plopped on top. Awesome.

So I have gone to this lovely diner for years and years, and always had a "Jersey diner experience" and nothing more. I went the other day with my boyfriend to find some new panni's added to the menu. I had the "pesto" and it was good. But here comes my reason for taking the time to write a review...

The onion rings...THE ONION RINGS. wow. I do not think I have ever tasted anything so terrible! Their bland yet horrible tasting crust tasted as if they were sitting around for days in a bin waiting to be put on a plate, and that's probably just what made them taste so terrible. Parts of the crust/exterior were missing, also indicating that their life was spent in a bin for days. I was highly dissapointed too because I had to pay a $1 extra for the fry-onion ring swap.

To top it off, our waitress did not come and ask us how our meal was (except at the very start when I didn't get into my food yet) so I couldnt tell her about the horrid rings.

Never have I been dissapointed until the other day, and if a Jersey diner can't do ONION rings correctly, I have lost all hope in this eating establishment.

The diner that puts all other diners to shame.  You can't go wrong with any of the breakfast items here.  Or fries.  Or breakfast with fries and a shake.  Or grilled cheese with bacon and fries and a shake.  It has a menu the size of WAR & PEACE, and everything on it is wonderful.

The renovated diner is typical jersey diner fare, it's good, but to me does not stand out from any other diner, you wont go wrong here as it's a well run establishment, a safe bet.

The original home of Tony Soprano (James J. Gandolfini grew up in Park Ridge, NJ), where all the local kids come to eat. Make sure a seating host notices your party before an inconsiderate teenager asks for a table ahead of you. This diner operates like most in Jersey, so you shouldn't have to wait too long for a table for two.

The breakfast menu is endless, with all the necessary diner staples like waffles, pancakes, sausage, ham and bacon. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of omelet options available to choose from. You can basically get one served to order, just however you want it. And our food came out in record time.

Service was prompt and attentive. My only complaint: the coffee, I'd expect more from a Jersey Diner.

Oh, and the shelved pastries, especially the Apple Crumb Cake, look AMAZING. I was close to adding one to my bill on the way out. I just may next time.

Used to be THE BEST DINER around but they have changed the look and its not as "comfortable" feeling anymore and worse yet the food seems to have been going downhill.
Have always enjoyed the breakfasts-French Toast especially until lately and the place does not seem as friendly as it had always been.
But as far as local diners it may still be the best of a mediocre group in north NJ and Rockland.
Its just gone downhill in my estimation.

I love the Ridge (known as the Diner to Park Ridge folk). I grew up in Park Ridge, spent a decent portion of my life there, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. But it's my favorite diner in the area - the food is solid, pretty cheap, and consistent. The service is alright - if you're not a regular, it probably seems slow (regulars know what to expect haha...). It's clean and recently renovated, and it's a fun place to be. It can get a little loud/crowded with teenaged kids, but it's still worth stopping by. Oh, and it's open almost 24 hours a day (until 2am, opens at 6am I believe).

Jersey Girl back in the 201! Nothing like the air outside a NJ diner for me...

The Ridge Diner, located right next to Montvale, my stomping grounds when I was a mere wee Lydia, was packed like dolmas in a can when we got there. We even had to circle their way too modest parking lot a few times to find a space. Once we got in we were greeted with smiles and welcomes.

My hubby and I are a bit germophobic so we each went to the rest room to wash up. The Mens' and Ladies' are located in a small space with the third door leading back to the Diner. I actually picked the wrong door and went into the Mens' room and had a brief moment of huh when I could not figure out why my husband was just standing there. It was Mortifying even though there were no other men in there. The people at the register in the front got a good laugh out of it so...

I ordered a small Greek salad which surprisingly came without dolmas. Isn't that the point of a Greek Salad? They were very generous with the tasty sardines and our nice waiter brought me two dolmas gratis.

Clean, friendly, in NJ. I would happily make another journey to dine again at The Ridge and hopefully have occasion to bump them up to 5 stars. I have no complaints to give them "just" four stars, I just want more! ;)

For a diner, it's pretty good.  Here's the good, the bad and the ugly about it.  The good is that the food is consistently good and the prices are pretty reasonable.  The bad is that the service is slow, waitresses aren't great and it can get really crowded, quickly, the ugly is that it is still swarming with teens walking over from the local high school, it is never quiet, and if you grew up in bergen county like I did ,you always run into someone you knew growing up.  Awesome?  Not really.

Back in the mid '90s, this diner was the very first place I ever had an ostrich burger.

Let me repeat that.  This diner -- an unassuming standard-looking American traditional diner in a town in New Jersey almost at the New York border -- was the very first place I ever had an ostrich burger.

I knew then and I know now.  It was an excellent ostrich burger, served like an ostrich burger should be.  I don't remember anything else about the place other than the standard diner decor, but I remember every moment of that perfectly cooked burger; huge and juicy and every bite a meatgasm.

Thus began my great love for ostrich and a lifelong exploration of exotic meats from all over our tasty tasty planet.  Thanks, The Ridge!

They just redid the place and it's still the same old 'Ridge' with a little makeover.  As a table of two for lunch, we were seated in the old smoking/teen hangout section in a booth that was outrageously long (think 4-5 skinny teens per side) and a tight squeeze from seatback to table (where are these skinny teens putting their arms?)  I felt a little closterphobic despite the lengthwise space.  Think this could have been layed out a little better.

Not much of a diner person, but everyone said this place was AMAZING so I figured I would check it out. I ordered the Gyro.....not so good. I could have made better. It was basically a pita with a slice of tomato, onion, lettuce leaf with some meat on top. The sauce wasn't even on the sandwich it was in a jar on the side. Also, the fries they gave you were cold. Needless to say I would not go back there again.

    *Cue wobbly smokescreen flashback*

    The year: 1995.

Smoking in restaurants is legal in New Jersey. (Yes, kids! It was!)

All the cool kids sit in the smoking section at The Ridge. You can totally hide in there and still be able to see if your parents or any of their friends come in the front door. An air purifier labors overhead, doing nothing but looking hulking and useless.

"You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson is on the jukebox at your booth, and you toss a quarter in to hear it. You pretend that you're doing it just to piss off your too-cool friends, but you don't want to admit that you're actually, really loving this song.

Total bonus: The bathrooms are in the smoking area, so you get a chance to people-watch everyone as they go to use the can. AWESOME.

Coffee and cheese fries, served up by a nasty waitress who is looking for any reason to kick you and your friends out: $5, including a generous tip.

This is THE place to strut while you wear your varsity jacket that informs the other diner patrons that you are a SENIOR and therefore superior to all of the other loud, hoodlum jackasses.

    THE RIDGE RULES, YO!

*Cue wobbly smokescreen bringing you back to present*
    ---------------

    The year: 2007

Smoking at The Ridge is no longer legal (which is great, cuz you've ditched the cigs anyway). The place still crawls with teenagers who have no other place to go to hang out and strut their stuff. Only now, instead of wearing flannel shirts to look beaten up, now they carry Chanel bags (but they still try to took beaten up).

And that nasty barracuda of a waitress? Yeah, she still works there.

Breakfast is super yummy, and manages to be damn cheap, even in 2007 dollars.

Service is spotty, strange and suspicious. But you wouldn't have it any other way.

    THE RIDGE STILL RULES.
