If Norm lived in LA, he would go to SF Saloon. Â Its a good casual local bar, with a decent menu and kitchen that stays open late (to give you food to absorb the liquor). Â Good selection of beer and wine. Â Has its own parking lot - a rarity. Â
Popular with softball crowd, which makes it a bit noisy at times but its big enough you can escape them.
As a diehard Giants fan, I want to give this place a great review but unfortunately the behavior of the bartender, Adam, makes it impossible to do so.
Saturday, July 13th, 2013 Tim Lincecum throws a no hitter. Three of my friends and I sit at a table at the SF Saloon watching the game for a full three hours and ordering hundreds of dollars in food and drinks.
Two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth, with a pitch count of over 140, Lincecum throws a pitch to end his first no hitter in Giant's history and THE BARTENDER CHANGES THE CHANNEL.
TO SOCCER.
All of us shriek in horror. We just missed the final play of Lincecum's no hitter.
Rather than apologizing, the bartender turns around, points the remote at our table and screams at us to RELAX.
When one of my table mates attempts to clear the air, the bartender angrily tells him to get out of his face and sit down. Another one of my table mates attempts to reason with the bartender. He tells him there's no reason to be upset and that as a fan himself, he should understand our disappointment. All we are looking for is an apology. This bartender refuses saying he's not a fan and wasn't watching the game. It's not his concern.
Last time I checked, this place was called the SF Saloon. The neighborhood bar for SF fans. I would think they would show a little respect.
Clearly, this bar does not live up to what they claim. They aren't in it for the fans. The SF is just a ploy to pull in customers.
And even if this were just another sports bar, I hope that any bar with a modicum of consideration for their customers would not employ a bartender with the manners of Adam.
SF Saloon, you've just lost FOUR loyal customers. Dodger fans, I think I've found your new hang out.
Great place to hit up after work. Happy hour is usually over when i get here, but it's got that cozy "just got off work and now i wanna drink" feel. Food is good, drinks are good. It's a great place to watch sports, too. I've only gone here during the weekdays so i'm not sure how crazy it can be during the weekends.
Review Source:Nice neighborhood bar:)
it's a mellow neighborhood bar, but coziness gradually grows on you.
Good bacon avocado cheese burger, goes very well with makers mark:)
Nachos was good too. I go here on weekday nights when it's not too busy, then sometimes bartenders make you special off the menu cocktails if bar is not too busy.
Their cucumber gin mojito was delicious:)
4 star!
This bar is amazing. My girl and I went there on a Friday around 6pm. Was not as crowded as I thought it would be although there was a decent crowd by the time we left around 830. I had read reviews here that the service was subpar or that patrons were overlooked. This was not the case at all in my experience. The bartender Adam was great. Always kept our drinks coming and made sure out food orders were placed promptly. The place has a rustic look to it with lots of San Francisco memorabilia. Plenty of tvs to accommodate any and every sporting event on. Every seat is a great seat. The food? Man, the food is amazing. We had the nachos and a 49er burger. The nachos were packed with chips as well as all the other fixings. They didn't skimp at all. The burger was cooked just right with great seasoning and flavor. All in all it was a great time. They have a parking lot in the back for convenience. Nothing but great things to say about this place. Will be going back definitely. Highly recommended.
Review Source:When I want a good burger I head here. Â The Angus beef or the free range turkey burgers are dripping with yumminess. Â You can custom design your burger, but I usually get the avocado and mushroom on a whole wheat bun. Â There are many side options to choose from, my husband loves the potato salad, but I usually get the shoestring fries or the wonderful side salad (which has so much more than one obligatory piece of tomato).
Review Source:Fantastic burgers.
I had a lunch meeting here with a friend last week. I'd never even heard of this place before today, but I would be willing to brave the 10 just to go back for another round.
They have a menu full of great-looking food. But you should get a burger. I ordered just a regular Angus beef burger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. Honestly, next time I might even leave the cheese off because the meat tastes so damn good. It's got such a healthy, fresh flavor full of succulent juices that pour out with each bite. I only added a touch of Dijon mustard to taste. This definitely isn't the kind of burger you want to slather in ketchup or other heavy sauces.
The accompanying side salad was better than the norm. Lots of fresh vegetables - some appeared pickled, too - with a little oil & vinegar. That's good stuff right there.
Well drinks are only $5. And the food is alright. Standard bar food like burgers, fries, quesadillas... service is fast and friendly. So that would normally get them 4 or 5 stars, but...
This place is depressing. Divey bar but has tables for people to eat and is well taken care of. It's the perfect combination of "This place isn't a shithole so you youngsters need to respect it" and "This place isn't upscale enough to attract cognac-sniffing cigar puffers with British accents."
It feels like a place where single old men go to bitch about women and drink out the rest of their lives until they die, leaving behind a will that states they want to be buried in their biker outfit featuring a leather vest.
*shudder*
Great place for some tasty bar food. The burgers are amazing and give you the option to basically build your own perfect creation. They offer a number of different sides and have a great chicken Caesar salad. It only takes about 15 minutes for takeout orders even during the lunch rush. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the mood for some bar food and sports all around. Considering it is the "San Francisco" saloon, they do make San Francisco sports team a priority which can be a positive or negative depending on your team affiliation.
Review Source:We were recommended this place by a friend of ours. And being Bay Area natives, we had to go so we could watch the Giants vs. Dodgers game. From the outside it seems a little dive-y, but the inside was clean and very traditional. Full of Giants and 49ers decorations, we felt at home. The bar was up front and had TVs. And there were more tables in the back and yep, more TVs! We were greeted at the bar and sat down. The bartender was very polite and warm. There were basketball games on the main TVs, but since we wanted to watch baseball, we asked if they were going to switch the channels. At the time he said those were probably going to stay on basketball, but he offered us a corner booth that had a tv right there that he could put the game on. He was extremely helpful and went out of his way and even though he transferred our tabs to a waitress, we made sure to leave him a tip.
We order more drinks and food. The onion rings were delicious! Very fresh and homemade. They had a great selection of burgers and sandwiches. The burgers were great, though mine was a bit overcooked, my boyfriends was perfect (always happens that way!). Regardless, we had a great time. We enjoyed a good game and good food.
My friends an I decided to watch a Game 3 of the Lakers v. Spurs series here last night.
To my chagrin, they were only playing the Laker game on a couple smaller tvs because Giants were playing, as were the Warriors. Â These games were on the big tvs and most of the other ones too. Â The name of the bar with these teams being featured makes sense...
This turned out to be a really good thing for us. Â The Warriors game was really good to have on, especially since the Laker game technically ended much earlier than the final buzzer.
Had the 49 burger. Â It was good. Â Not great.
Strong drinks. Â Good Whisky selection.
Friendly servers.
Great place to watch a game for a Bay Area team!
The burgers are really good here! This spot is a few blocks from my J.O.B. I sometimes come here with a co-worker to grab a burger and some beers for lunch. A bit pricey but worth it. Parkings sometimes tricky if there is a SF game on. It gets reaaaaaally packed.
I usually get the Trojan Burger. Add some bacon and you can never go wrong! And for my drink, a Magic Hat. Their beer selection is average. I have yet to try the Irish Coffee but the day will come. Staff is great and friendly. I've never had any issues here.
Really like this place.  It's pretty low-key at night, but can get realllly crazy if there is a good game playing, the food is decent, and the drinks are  strong and cheap.  Service is good. Â
There isn't much else in the area, so it's nice to know that this bar is stumbling distance from my apartment.
Oh yeah!
I've been to the San Francisco Saloon for a long time. They've got an amazing happy hour, cheap drinks, cheap appetizers, yes WINGS!! I love their nachos! Everything is always fresh and the experience is always a good one! Get a hamburger here....so delicious! Huge juicy patties, crisp lettuce, perfectly ripe tomatoes, savory onions, soft buns.....I really dig the burgers here coupled with a beer or three! Oh yeah, get an egg on your burger, no matter which one you get. Make sure it's over easy! Ok, ok, avocado too.....I could go on and on and on and on
New to the neighborhood, food is mediocre customer service is the worst! You have to be Asian or white for the waitresses and bartender to be nice to you. My boyfriend forgot his card there and when he called to let them know and for the balance, the guy cussed him out! He called again because he thought he might be joking and the guy cussed him out again and clicked on him. When we went to pick up the card and talk to a manager, we were told the owner would give us a call. That never happened! We still don't know how much they charged my boyfriend. Â This place doesn't resemble the fun and friendly San Francisco I know! Get new employees that would love to have a job! I will not be coming back to this place until there's new management or new employees.
Review Source:Dang, I go back to LA to get dragged to an SF bar. Â As a Dodgers fan that lives in Central/Nor Cal this wasn't ideal. Â But, the bar was fine. Â I would not recommend the house red. Â It tasted like bad grape juice. Â But, overall the energy here was really good. Â Everyone was in their mid 20's-30's so it the familiar feeling of a house party. Â It is non-pretentious and a little anti-LA seen. Â Which is the best characteristic of this bar.
Review Source:We kinda stumbled across this place today when we were looking for a place to eat lunch and watch the Rose Bowl. They are all about San Francisco sports (duh). I ordered the SF chicken sandwich with a side of potato salad and my wife ordered the buffalo chicken strips. My chicken sando was delicious. Really good chicken, cheese, avocado, lettuce, and tomato on a bun. The buffalo chicken strips were pretty standard. Good sauce. If I'm ever in the neighborhood and need to watch a game, I'll probably stop by.
Review Source:From the name alone, I suspected this place to be a lesbian bar.
But it wasn't. I think.
Anyways the food was good and the atmosphere was low key. I got the bruin burger and got it without the bun a.k.a. burger in a bowl.
The parking arrangement is one of those "leave your keys with the valet guy" places.
All in all, non trendy (which is awesome) and friendly staff. Good stuff.
I really like this place for the SF GIANTS FANS. Not necessarily for the bar itself.
I 1st came to this place in '09, immediately asked if they had the MLB package and they said no. In the late season of 2010 is when the bar finally jumped on the bandwagon and invested in the package. Very thankful that there is now a place where I can watch all the Giants games if I wanted to however I'd always call to make sure they are playing the game.
In April of 2011, I came to this bar in the afternoon to watch the Giants home opener against the Cards. Though there were many giants fans there, we had to watch the entire 12 innings on the smaller TVs as the Larger TV and the sound were both turned to the golf game.
There have been many times throughout the 2011 & 2012 regular season where I've been to this bar, and had to sit through random music or to the sounds of Lakers games or random football games. I do hear that this place is fantastic for 9ers fans. Though as a much larger baseball fan, it does suck when the bar choses to play the 9ers games over the Giants games. But hey, at least it's SF sports.
This joint proves really fantastic for Giants Post Season. ALL the fans show up. Though Game 6 of the NLCS was the last game I personally was able to attend as there are now lines to try to get into the bar forming 1 hr before 1st pitch.
Overall I'm happy that there is a safe haven for SF sports fans to all meet up. I do wish that their service and food improves. Mostly friendly people (though don't talk to the bartenders about sports as I've yet to meet one that really cares for them). Service in general is a little on the slower side. Â But again it's a great place to rock your black & orange or your red & gold.
So two attempts to watch the ws games here were met w/out success... First was for game 3 and the group arrived 30 mins early. No movement in the line and so we prepared for game 4 and arrived TWO HOURS early. They allowed 10-15 people to cut (bc they had friends save their seats) and only 8 other people went in in the whole time we waited. They kept saying they'd let 12-15 people in by the time of 1st pitch; apparently they didn't mean that for the actual people in line!!! The manager guy was an @$$ ... After the bouncer let three people in, the manager (guy in a green shirt this past Sunday) made them all go back to the front of the line. Â I must add that although the bouncer was attempting to accommodate, he didn't have the balls to speak up to all the cutters; instead, he let them all in to avoid their anger and not anyone else's who'd been waiting in line for 2 hours.
As much as my husband loves sf sports, I really don't appreciate the staff at this place and their inability to manage the large crowds on busy days/nights when SF teams are playing. Â I feel that they could have prepared some sort of plan for what they knew would be a big day. Â Sure, those of you who got in b/c your friend got there hours early hoarding space inside may be happy, but I do not agree that with this tact when you can stroll in past originally patient fans who are now growing pissed.
Needless to say, I will not be choosing to return here any time soon. My husband adds that if you're not a regular, don't show up.
The pitch.
The swing.
(Note: After receiving a complaint that my account of the last pitch is indeed not accurate enough for this person's liking seeing as how, you know, I'm totally an official MLB reporter... I now retract my statement claiming there was a SWING because there was more of a lack of one. Now can I carry on with this review?)
A STRIKE!
The entire bar erupts in screams.
The Giants are the champions of the 2012 World Series!
In a city where the Dodger's rule supreme, finding sanctuary for a Bay Area sports fan can be troublesome. I don't need to go into the details of what may happen if I were to wear a different team's shirt to a local LA game. I'd driven by this random bar a couple times but since noticing the entire street was lined with people for the last few games this season I came here for what was the final game of the 2012 Series.
I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the world. The bartender was so nice to us. The guys at the door made sure we were able to accomodate our friends... Mind you, we were also nice to the staff AND made sure to follow all of the rules they have like showing up plenty of time ahead of the game (2+ hours) to claim an area. The best part, though, had to be the crowd that was there. Only real complaint might be that our waitress, even considering that it was very busy, wasn't giving us much or any attention as we waited and waited.
Everyone was friendly and both customers and staff were NorCal natives. It was nice to connect with this community in a random bar in West LA of all places! Even if you're not from up north or don't really care for the SF Giants, they also show 49ers football and both USC/UCLA games. The food is decent bar food and they offer select happy hour specials.
Thanks for an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life. It felt like I was in San Francisco for even just a few hours.
I love this place thus far. Spent my entire Sunday there to watch the 49ers-NYG game and Giants NLCS Game 1. Granted, both teams lost, so my high point of the day was being at the Saloon. The crowds there were fantastic, the bartenders and servers were very friendly and very homer. I had the 49er burger (bleu cheese + mushrooms) and it was DELICIOUS. Very thick patty, good buns. Fries were average. The beer selection they have is decent for a small bar, and they carry Anchor Steam and Racer 5 which is a plus. TVs everywhere and it is one place to feel safe and excited as a San Francisco fan.
They are definitely on my calendar for all SF sporting events in the future.
It was a San Francisco trifecta. In honor of my San Francisco Marathon this weekend, my coworkers took me out to SF Saloon for lunch today, the SF Giants were playing and I ate the Giants turkey burger.
It's your typical local bar. This is a great place to kick back, have a beer and watch a game on their flat screens with your buddies. It was incredibly busy and the crowd was energetic. I wondered if everyone took the day off from work! My free-range turkey burger was okay. The service was mediocre. Attentive in the beginning, but we soon got neglected in the 7th inning.
I'd recommend to come to this place on game days for the atmosphere and beer, not so much for the food.
on October 1st, my pregnant wife and her work associates went to this restaurant for lunch. The next day, all who ate either lettuce or avacado in their lunch were violently ill. Vomitting, diarhorrea, stomach cramps etc etc.
SF Saloon, WASH YOUR GODDAMN SHIT.
I doubt they will be going there again, I know that my poor wife definitely isnt.
If anyone else got sick there, on October 1st, please post here on yelp.
Thank you.
Kitchen was running super slow.
Something wasn't cooked to order after waiting over an hour.
Waitress could clearly function but wasn't necessarily thoughtful enough to say ooh, round of drinks on the house....thank you for being patient sort of thing.
Fun interiors. Burger was good. Turkey sandwich was disappointing. Fries were vehicles for ketchup and bbq sauce.
It's not the worst place by any means and I could see it becoming a damn good drunk place to party in the moment with friends and coworkers.
I'd have liked a better waitress.
Sorry, remember, you should make nice customers happy.
This was mine & my co-workers after work spot for some greasy grub & some good brew!
// The appetizer portions are pretty hefty, perfect for a group.
// Variety of beer.
// Kick-back vibe with lots of indoor seating.
// Parking can be a chore as there is only one lot next to it that fills up pretty quickly (you have the option to park on the street on the backside too)
// Mixed crowd, but you won't see "snooty" people here, more laid back/down to earth kinda folk that just want to have a good time.
// Long bar area
// Servers are on top of their game and constantly checking up on you
If you're a San Francisco Giants fan located in Los Angeles, then this place is worth checking out on the Westside.
When I come here, I feel like I'm in San Francisco in a strange way! You'll see plenty of posters of SF sports icons and current athletes.
The food isn't my favorite, nor is the crowd, but it's a fair spot.
I went here last night with some friends and had a few happy hour beers, a shot, and some food.
The chicken tenders and fries are made to order. Â The tenders were different than what I am used to (I suppose I prefer the breaded Chick-fil-a style). Â
Matt was our bartender really chill guy took care of us when it was dead and as the place started to fill up. Â I imagine it gets packed to the gills when Bay area sports events are on.
Nice neighborhood pub with a decent bathroom (I was expecting Joanie loves Chachi type scrawl on a hunter green painted bathroom stall).
Would go back and then head across the street after which is what we did. Â Free parking tandem style in a lot a few doors down or metered street parking.
Happy hour til 7!
It was okay.
Just a local neighborhood spot where you can cheer on the SF teams. Expected just a little bit more of a SF feel, but I really dug the old timey photos of places like the Cliff House. We walked in and the bartender was playing a lot of mid-90's post-grunge rock from his iPod. For that, I got a few flashbacks from High School. The decor (other than the photos) was a bit generic. I didn't feel like I was in SF--I felt more like I was at Bill's Gambling Hall in Vegas (Wood panels, stained glass, etc.). Would have liked a little more personality in the decor, but maybe that's just me.
Looks like they have a happy hour menu, but we were too late. Still, ok prices and decent selection of beers on tap. I got some chicken strips and some sweet potato fries and they were both good enough to eat--the sauces were good enough to double dip. However, after one beer and a finished meal, we left. The place was pretty empty, and while the beer was good, there wasn't enough of a pull to stay. If there were more people, more going on (a game), I bet my experience would have been a lot more fun/interesting. Would go back if I had a reason to check it out again.
Came here to watch the Miami/Boston game and Kings/Devils game on a Saturday and had a pretty good time here. There is happy hour everyday from 4-7 which knocks a dollar off a beer or $2 off wings, quesadillas or nachos. Â The draft beers are mostly in the $5.50-$6 range. Â We got the wings and quesadillas is your average bar food. 3 stars for the food. A The waitress was very attentive and was good able getting refills and such for our beers
The decor is kind of dark and gives a old timey feeling so it's not really a place to take your girl if she wants something nice. I think coming here at night gives you a better feel for the atmosphere since some of the decor really shines thru such as the lights and the overall feel. Â
While its not exactly a sports bar its a nice alternative since it wasn't too crazy or loud if you just wanna enjoy the game but not be bothered too much. Â There is free parking in the back on one side of the street and the other is meter.
This is the closest bar to our house, excluding weird local bars that don't serve draft beer, etc. (I'm not naming names). It is a great place for a weeknight drink, a late-night weekend dinner/drink, or an afternoon drink! Â Basically all occasions other than actually going out to like, meet people. Â
It's extremely casual, but I wouldn't call it a dive bar because they have a full menu and the food is good. The burgers are great and I was quite impressed with the salad I ordered (that one time, ha!) for a bar. Â The bartenders and waitresses are very friendly, and everything seems fairly priced. Â The only time I have ever seen this place packed was when the 49'ers were in the playoffs, otherwise there always seems to be an open table (or several).
I imagine that if I were not already entrenched in marriage with the love of my life (hi, babes) I would meet a man similar to him here. Â A man who, like this bar, is unpretentious yet educated, handsome yet unfussy, a beer-drinking book-reader with a quiet sense of humor and a good-sized...selection...of...menu items. Â Loyal to his team to a fault, perhaps. Â Practical. Â Good for conversation. Â Oh, and a little silly (as evidenced by the giant Shaq statue that greets you upon arrival).
Fat Tire, Newcastle, Stella on tap among others, stuff you've probably had before and enjoyed. Â I was really surprised by how good the food is. Â I loved my spinach and grilled chicken salad. Â It was big and fresh with enough bacon to negate any of its inherent health benefits. Â Two plates and two beers will be something like $30.
Service is super-friendly and skillful. Â The saloon itself looks a little like Merlotte's from True Blood. Â I think they filmed a scene from "The Ugly Truth" here. Â Out of respect for my friends, I resisted the urge to kiss the seat of the chair that Gerard Butler sat on.
P.S. Â If you have a sugar craving, amble a few doors west to Jamaica's Cakes and grab a cupcake. Â Then come back and have another beer.
This is probably one of the least pretentious bars/restaurants on the Westside. I'll break down the good and bad:
FOOD:
Huge list of delicious burgers, or build-your-own. My fave is the Giants Burger, with generous jack cheese, mushrooms and avocado.
Standard bar food, lists of burgers, quesadillas and omelettes. The small buffalo wings is a steal at $3, and isn't very small.
Happy hour isn't THAT great of a deal, with only $1 off most items. Not enough of a difference to make me want to rush here before 7PM when it ends.
ATMOSPHERE:
Very charming, with swing-out saloon doors when you enter, and lots of dark wook.
Big screens everywhere, great off-the-beaten-trail place to watch a game
Free parking lot!
DRINKS:
Long list of beers, cocktails, and a house wine list. Most drinks are around $6 - $7 each.
SERVICE:
Food always comes out fast. Our waitress wasn't overly talkative our outgoing, but nice and came by just enough.
I think this is a great place for a casual dinner, game-watching, or chill spot to meet up and start off a bar-hopping night. Walking distance to Liquid Kitty and The Arsenal.
