My group of 4 came into Sassafras around 10:30 on a Friday night. We were able to walk right up to the door, and after a flash of the ID, get right in. We were celebrating my first night back out on the town since giving birth to our daughter just 3 months earlier, so I was beyond thrilled to be out. The place was pretty packed, although not uncomfortably full. The wait for the bar was about 3 deep. After a short wait, we were able to order. We were all thrilled about the barrel-aged cocktail selection whizzing above our heads, so we ordered one of those. I also had a peach moonshine crusta- which was my favorite cocktail of the whole night. It tasted like home-made peach cobbler.
I was completely obsessed with the decor. As a huge fan of New Orleans, I love any establishment that can properly pay homage the beauty of the Big Easy. I felt like I was right there. The swinging jazz up above made for a lively energy as the whole place seemed to be in a good mood. We made our way out back and sat on the patio for a short bit taking in more of the scene. We all agreed this place had the very best cocktails of the night, and we are all eager to come back.
This is one of THE coolest bars I have been to. Reminds me of the south, seeing as how the building inside the building came from the deep south. The booze is good and they have some quirky remakes of drinks. The food is a-ok. The banana pudding with nilla wafers sound good but leave kind of a grimy feeling in your mouth. The bathroom is really old school and kind of cool to have a cold and hot water spout. They have bands, but it took forever for the band to start. Try this place out and you wont be disappointed. Come early or you'll have to wait. I would say get there around 9ish to not have a line.
