I was INVITED to Holly's on a Saturday by a friend that was having a birthday party there. Â I found parking down the street for $10 and walked to the door. Â It was around 11pm and there was not a soul in line. Â The doorman (after not acknowledging that I was a patron), finally asked me whose guestlist I was on. Â I told him my friend's name and he said there was not a promoter by that name. Â
There was also a lady at the door with a clipboard in her hand. Â i explained to her that I was simply there for a friend's birthday. Â She and the doorman were very rude and told me that there was no more room to let me and my friend in. Â Mind you, I could see inside and hear the music. Â The spot was not full. Â
Needless to say, we did not get in, but I really didn't mind because it saved me from having to pay a ridiculous $20 COVER. Â Not going back and I don't advise anyone else to either. Â Went to Barcopa in Santa Monica instead and had a blast!!
Aight, this may be a good review because I always look at these spots as a potential place to DJ. Â I went to check out "Move" on Tuesday night with my Come Up Crew homie LinoType. Â We went to check out the homies Evilincoln!? and Shiva spin. Â We walked in and were feeling the spot right away. Â We like the size of the place, the bar, the smokling patio, and the DJ booth in the middle of the dance floor. Â I would feel a little weird myself DJing in a booth in the middle of the dancefloor but I could understand the concept and I thought it was pretty cool. Â I loved that they were playing some classic hip hop and RnB tracks, always a good thing.
I would totally hit this spot again if I needed to get out on Tuesday night. Â BTW, there were a lot of stacked girls there...
On a random bar crawl on the Westside this weekend, some friends and I literally stumbled into this little dive on Saturday night. Â Here's the quickie run down...
No cover
Small space (nothing real special bout it) and hot as hell
Music was basic oldies, top 40, and hip hop mash (cool surprise: live conga drummer)
Drinks were typical prices: $6/beer and about $10/cocktail
Bathrooms SUCKED! Â how can any place feel that one toilet for females is ever going to be enough?!?!?
Crowd is well mixed to be nice, and a lot of rude weirdos to be harsh: Â People elbowing people, guys who wouldn't take "NO" graciously, and when the lights went on at the end of the night the girls...well let's put it this way...I never found bad make up running down a woman's face from sweat really attractive
Would I come here again? Â Sure, if I'm really that bored cause it's close for some random night of dancing. Â Would I crave coming to this place the way I crave McDonald's sometimes? Â Sure, they're both equally as greasy and cheap and sometimes that's a good thing =)
