Delicious fresh seafood. Â We arrived at 4 pm on a Sunday. Â There was one other customer. Â One employee working who took our order, prepped and cooked our food and took our money.
I ordered fried shrimp plqatter ($9.99) and my son had the fish sandwich ($6.99) with fried pickles ($2.99). Â The employee made the batter up fresh right then, dipped the seafood and fried it up. Â The seafood and pickles were very crisp with very little grease. Â Shrimp were fresh and sweet. Â Fish sandwich was awesome, thick cod fried with roasted red pepper aioli.
The soda fountain has eccentric choices.
It's gone through some aesthetic changes lately but Seafood Connection still keeps it's food right on track! Focusing less on the market aspect and more on a service restaurant will suit them fine, as I have enjoyed their lunch counter for many years. Is there a better fish sandwich in Louisville? Yes, but this one is still good. Here's the key though, I HAVE NOT YET FOUND A BETTER LOBSTER ROLL IN LOUISVILLE!! You come here, you get the lobster roll, end of story! A delicious treat from the northeast, its a cold, seasoned lobster salad on a toasted, buttery roll. It sounds simple, but it's simply perfect.
Review Source:I went to Seafood Connection for the first time today, for lunch.
First I feel I should address the concerns of Ric W on 7/24/2012. Â I, too, witnessed much of what Ric saw on his visit. Â The young man preparing our food didn't use gloves and repeatedly, almost like a nervous tic, wiped his hands on his pants and shirt. Â I did see him wash his hands once, in the appropriate sink. Â Though I didn't watch him like a hawk, he really didn't do anything extraordinarily offensive. Â I'd say if you're squeamish about this sort of thing, you may wish to avoid this restaurant...pretty much along with all other restaurants as well. Â I'm sure much worse happens on a regular basis, simply without our seeing it, and we survive just fine. Â Certainly, though, I would welcome better sanitary practices.
On to the food. Â It was excellent, and was close to warranting the establishment a 5-star rating here if not for the aforementioned issue. Â I had the salmon Reuben. Â Though there was no sauerkraut on the sandwich, everything else was there including a succulent cooked-medium slab of salmon in place of the corned beef. Â There was just the right shmear of dressing on it, rather than a big gloopy glob.
I then decided to try the crab cake sandwich (OK, so I'm a bit of a pig). Â It too was very good, though not quite as good as the "Reuben." Â The con was the dull English muffin that was used for the bread. Â The rest of the sandwich was very good, including the pleasantly spicy and soft crab cake.
My wife had the jumbo codfish taco, and enjoyed it a great deal. Â It had lots of fresh produce on it, which was purchased from Paul's Fruit & Vegetable Market down the road.
I definitely recommend this restaurant. Â If the lack of hand sanitation bothers you, maybe sit at one of the alfresco tables, or, don't look.
This place has great fish & chips! After getting lunch (they have a lunch counter and tables) (oh, and the KIDS LOVE the lunch counter!) I also picked up fish kabobs with a mix of fresh fish that I grilled that night. Very Good. The owner is always smiling and kind. Good place. Will definitely go back!
Review Source:Went to Seafood Connection today, to give it another try... Didn't go inside, because I found a Big "C" from the health inspector  (4/4/13) in the window. I guess he was trying to tell everyone that my review was Correct!!!!! Thanks Mr Health Inspector... Now if me and Mr Health Inspector, can somehow convince Tom R. that good hand hygiene is important... You're right who are we kidding
It's with a heavy heart that I write this post, the seafood connection was one of my favorite's places to get fish tacos... But after my recent visit it will be my last. Tuesday July 25, 2012, I write this in order to help not hurt the seafood connection customers and the seafood connection.
Went to get some great fish tacos from seafood connection but left with a bad taste in my mouth. The person preparing the food today was just gross to say the least. The guy, I don't know his name but he was wearing a gray  t-shirt and green shorts, touched everything in the place in the 25 minutes I was there and only washed his hands 1 and  1/2 times will explain that later.  So when we got there Mr. Green shorts just finished his drink that was placed behind the food counter, no big deal (willing to overlook that). We placed our order 2 jumbo tacos, crab Rangoon and an order of fries.  We received our order as someone else was placing their, the food was hot and fresh as usual.  But then it started to go downhill fast like a car whose break line was cut. Mr. Green made himself an order of fries also and commenced eating them behind the counter, while he was making someone else's food that was sitting at a table and not the counter. He then went in the back moved some boxes, came back wiped the counter, ate more fries, wiped his hands on his pants, adjusted his hat and made the other person sandwich. Went in the back got some supplies and rinsed some shrimp in the hopper (a small sink used to pour stuff or wash stuff) but not to wash ones food. I could have swore that some shrimp fell into the hopper and he picked them out, but not really sure. But he did use his hand to place the shrimp into a container. After having his hands on the shrimp this was the first time that he washed his hands. But then went to back to making his self a fish taco and eating it behind the counter and even placed it on the counter that he prepared the food on. He then left went into the back came back out and rinsed his hands ( not washed no soap was used) in the same sink "hopper" that he used to rinse the shrimp off in. mind you there is a sink next to the prep station for hand washing.  I sat there for almost 25 minutes and watched this guy touch everything in the seafood connection except for the fresh fish that they sell. And only wash his hand 1 and  1/2 times the half time was when he washed his hand after handling something that a can't recall, but he washed his hand then grabbed paper towel to dry them and used that towel to wipe his forehead and then dry his hand OMG....  CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET SOME HAND SANITIZER AND POUR IT DOWN MY MOUTH PLEASE. This guy touched his clothes about 100 times without washing his hand; I bet if you were to deep fry his pants and shirt then they would taste great because they are already seasoned.  The funny thing was is that the owner offered gloves to the guy and he said I don't use those, and named another employee who did... can I come back on the day that the other guy works.  Was going to say something to the owner but he left and I could not wait and watch this guy touch another thing in this restaurant.
Not my first time here was a regular on Yelp from where I would check in, been here about six times in over a year used to tell everyone about this place. But there were different cooks at the time; they have changed over the year. This one is by far the worst or maybe someone just hasn't told him about cross contamination that comes from not washing your hand after touching something like food or garbage supplies boxes or money. It takes only about 20-30 seconds but saves the spread of germs and disease that can be found in handling raw food... Good hand hygiene is one of the most critical control strategies in outbreak management. Hand hygiene is defined as any method that removes or destroys microorganisms on hands. It is well-documented that the most important measure for preventing the spread of pathogens is effective hand washing. Sending this review to the owner, hopefully he will address this.....
A small local establishment which is expanding its' current location for more indoor seating. Excellent FRESH seafood. Not only can you order straight off the menu, but you can have a dish made up from the fresh seafood on display inside their cases. Dishes range from seafood soups, to platters, to sandwiches. I love the spicy shrimp tacos, and the fish sandwich is out of this world. They are a bit pricey but considering everything is so fresh, and is home cooked in front of you, it's worth it. Eat in, carry out...get your own raw seafood to cook at home. I've been happy to give them my business for about 4 years now, and will keep it up in the future.
Review Source:I went here for lunch on a Groupon cause I love me a fish taco. We had amazing fish tacos made with cod, pico de gallo, and fried (!) capers (!!). The ambience leaves a ton to be desired, it's a bar-height counter with several stools facing a mini open kitchen and the fishmonger's counter at your back. Although it was fun to chat with the cook while he made our lunch, on the down side you leave smelling of grease and deep-fried fish. But with a happy belly.
You can also buy raw fish, oysters, mussels, etc from the fishmonger counter if you like. I found their prices on the high side.
Five stars for food, 2-3 for everything else.
Nicely tucked away little shop with the owner answering the phone and taking orders and one cook behind the bar (you can sit there and watch him fry up your fish) taking care of all the customers.
I was amongst the not so great crowd of Groupon-ers who came to use them in the last 3 days they were good, so they were busy but still friendly, though it was obvious it had been a stressful day! They were out of half their fish from all the extra folks (the owner said about 800 people had used their Groupons in 2 days - and it is a small shop!) That being said it made my decision between the Salmon sandwich and the Shrimp Po Boy much easier, and goodness, it was the right decision. It had some sort of crab/cream cheesey dip on the bread, great spicy shrimp, and another nice sauce and banana peppers. Mmm. My boyfriend had the Jumbo Fish Sandwich, which was also really nice, fried just right, without too much batter. It was plenty of food without any sides and was just under 16 bucks. I'll be back - after the Groupon ends today!
TIP: The prices have gone up just a touch from the website, so I added a pic of the menu itself.
Looking for authentic Southern seafood? Hit up the Seafood Connection! Located in the charming Chenoweth Square in Louisville, this restaurant doubles as a fish market. Guests can choose from hand selecting a piece of fish from the expansive deli case and then have it prepared your way or order something from the limited, but delicious menu. Either way, be sure to sit at the "bar" while you watch your meal be prepared. If you like spicy, I recommend the shrimp po'boy but if your tastebuds want something more basic, the lobster roll is the way to go. Their homemade fries are the best side with every meal. I want to go back here and try the fried pickles too!
