1st time here was Sunday 07/14/13- 1st impression, local dive bar but at 11am what do i expect, old drinkers and cute bartender, of course. so we order food, not really sure what i was expecting but it blew my mind!!! sooo delicious!! i ordered the Florentine omlet.. a bit too much spinach but overall it was very very tasty!! i think the chef brought them out himself. When we were done, one of the guys that worked there..thanked us for coming and welcomed us back.. OF COURSE WE'LL BE BACK!!
Review Source:It's as close to feeling like a locals (dive) bar as I found on Pine during my recent two week trip to Long Beach. Â The prices were about what you would expect ($7 for a Jameson neat).
Most of the bartenders were pretty nice, but they did have one pretty terrible guy who was scattered and didn't give very good service at all. A group of really rowdy people ordered a round of drinks and one of them spilled one down my back. I thought the bartender was coming to offer me a towel; he was asking me to pay my tab. Both of the girls with blue blue hair were really nice and so was the other guy that waited on me, but if the guy that wears the Lakers jerseys was there, I'd probably find another place to drink.
I totally remember going in.
I recall ordering a few rounds of drinks.
I remember my wife ordering pork sliders.
I can't remember eating but remember someone taking empty plates away.
We played a game of pool, right?
I barely recall leaving.
That's good, isn't it?
Did I pay? Wallet. check! Visa. check!
Thank gawd we're staying at the Renassaince Hotel.
From what I remember it was fun for even a week night.
I'm gonna say, it was GOOD TIMES all around.
Cheers ! I'm deez® & I'm done.
My friends and I went in on Friday night around 7pm. Parking wasn't too difficult to find, but it sure was a tad expensive. From the outside, the pub looks a bit dingy and I was considering on going to Octopus--the Japanese bar across the street, but we decided to go into Shannon's and give it a shot.
The bar was packed but it wasn't difficult to get our drinks. The bartenders were very accommodating and acknowledged every customer.
We ordered several drinks and appetizers and even asked if we could watch the Lakers game. Everything was great and the drinks were stiff--perfect.
It wasn't loud and obnoxious; excellent for a one-on-one date or just to hang and socialize with friends without having to shout at each other.
I would love to go back.
Would give it Negative stars if allowed, 1st No happy hour, second if they have good people working there the owners son riley fires them, 3rd its just not a good time, i use to meet some buddys up here around lunch time but no more, would rather spend my money else where, food is good but too expensive! sorry just being honest
Review Source:I love this bar (I know that's a song). The people here are great and always remember my order. I don't even ask for anything when I go there. They just know. On Fridays now they have a 16oz Guinness chug for bragging rights. They just brought in some new draft beers including Stone IPA, and they are constantly reviewing their menu. Kitchen closes at 7:30 so go ealry. Get the prime rib quesadilla or a burger. Ummmmmm
Review Source:Came here Friday night as part of a mini/impromptu pub crawl with a couple friends to try and get to know the local bars since I just moved to Long Beach and into this neighborhood, and this was definitely one of my favorites.
Really good crowd of locals (20's-30's), non-shitty music on the juke box, shuffle board, strong drinks, just an overall solid bar.
The vibe here is less hipster and divey than the bars on 4th street which was refreshing. Nothing to write home about, but I felt a kinship here.
Will be back for sure.
So I was looking for a different bar and I came in here one day after having a beer a the Congregation Ale House. Pleasantly surprised. The bartenders were friendly and they had plenty of nice TV's to watch the end of the Dodger game. A little pricey but didn't really mind because everyone in there was pretty chill. Not sure what it;s like at night time but it's a nice little hangout during the day.
Review Source:I frequent Shannon's during the weekends in the LBC. Good location in downtown, near Cohiba, Rhythm Lounge, Rockbottom Brewery, and all the other bar/clubs and restaurants.
Always a fun and large crowd on Fridays and Saturdays. Has some booth seating, a bunch of bar space, a patio with tbales and chairs, a couple pool tables, and a shuffle board. Have not tried the food, but as far as bar food goes, I have heard good things.
I went with some friends this past Saturday. The same bartenders I always see, they do a good job. This time the music was a little techno-y, which is strange for this joint. The bartender gave us some free beers for some reason, not sure, but not gonna question her :) . The drinks are very reasonably priced.
There is typically some bouncer checking ID's at the door, but there is never a cover and the only time i had to wait in line was when I was in downtown for New Years Eve.
All in all, this is a fun and inexpensive bar. I will definitely be back!
I didn't think I would like Shannon's as much as I did, but alcohol will pretty much sway you to the good side in most cases.....
Strong moderate-to-high priced drinks? Oh yes. (CASH ONLY!)
People around my age picking my kinda music? Yup.
Not too crowded, not too many annoying patrons? Awesome.
Tables with mini-games (although some were missing batteries or other parts)? SO GOOD. Still fun and completely unique!
-1 star for the bathroom. So........ there's one room with side-by-side toilets, no divider. I kind of secretly wished the Bestie would go in with me, but........ um, awkward. And I'm sure fights have started in that line that grows. ONE bathroom??? Boo.
I ended the night by buying a monkey hat from 7-11 that I don't really remember getting. That 100% means that it was a great night. Especially thanks to Shannon's!
One of... if not the best dive bar in Long Beach! The owner Ron has figured out a winning formula and with the help of his manager Baron, these guys keep things fun and entertaining with all kinds of lively events and over all fun times. Their food is actually quite excellent and their cook Jenny makes some great food. I especially love her Sunday breakfasts during football season!
Now as for the bartenders... this is one of the best bartendind crews out there. Coby leads the team on football Sunday and always keeps things fun and lively. I have been in their just about every day of the week and have never had a bad experience and always have great service no matter who's bartending. This is not just a great place for drinks, it's also a very fun, friendly place. Go in their just a couple times, and you become one of the "SHANNON" family. They all tend to remember your name and face (despite how ugly my mug is, LOL).
I might add too that their is one especially amazing bartender there named LAUREN! She's super friendly, a total sweetheart, makes great drinks and always knows how to make you smile. She's also super hot, which doesn't hurt either. She has to be one the nicest and sweetest overall people I have met in Long Beach since moving here! Â (She is definitely going to be some lucky guys dream girl sooner or later and that guy will definitely be one very lucky guy! ... If only I was 20 years younger, LOL).).
I must add too, that all the other bartenders and staff there is great too! This is a group who knows how to make you feel like you're extremely welcomed to be there. The fact they remember your face and name and treat you like family makes for a great place to want to go hang out at! Oh... and Gerry rocks at keeping the place running safely with his great bouncing skills!
I can't wait for Shannon's Strip Bowl II!
Waffle chili cheese fries, pineapple juice & 6 1/2 hours of straight football!!
These are the three reasons why I'm the duke of this little Downtown LB dive bar.
Don't get me wrong, I do occasionally pop in here for a drink on Friday and Saturday nights but during football season you'll find my best friend and I here every Sunday, watching every single NFL game on their many flat screen HD TVs. Thank god for Direct TV and NFL Sunday Ticket.
Now, in all honesty, there is nothing flashy or fancy about Shannon's. It's a total dive bar but what I love about it is it's filled with LB locals, many of whom are my neighbors (I actually live in the complex directly above this bar). The fact that it's filled with locals is astounding because most Downtown LB bars and restaurants are usually cluttered with tourists or people in town on business. You won't find many of those pests at Shannon's.
They also have a cheap late night happy hour food menu, which is awesome. Now, I'm not claiming its gourmet food but after a few drinks, even dog food tastes delicious. Trust me; I speak form experience (JK).
Quick shout out to my favorite bartender, Cody. He always lets me choose what games I want on the tube in the section I'm sitting at.
Oh, and if you're wondering why I mentioned pineapple juice in my opening sentence, it's because football starts at 10am on Sunday mornings, and that's too early for alcohol so I stick to piña juice.
I've been coming to Shannon's for years and always enjoyed it, but after my experience this weekend I can't justify ever going back.
Some friends and I sat at the bar Sunday night. At 1:15 am, we ordered another round of drinks and a round of shots. At 1:20 am, without last call even being made we were told that we needed to pay out. We were a little confused but asked for our tabs. Most bars that say they're open til 2 am, usually make last call around 1:30 and want people out by 1:45, so no big deal being asked to leave (without last call) a little early.
The bartender handed my friend her $51 tab. She gave the bartender $61, not really understanding how her bill was so high until I asked for my bill and was told that the last round of shots I ordered had been on the $51 tab my friend had just paid. I explained that I only had $5 cash and a credit card, so I asked him to please give $20 back to my friend and run my card for $20. He took my card, ran it, and handed me a receipt for $20. I signed it with no tip, and gave my friend $5 to pay her back for the 20% tip she had left.
At that point it was about 1:25 am and we were rudely told that we needed to leave the bar, that they were closing. We were trying our best to suck down our drinks as fast as possible and get out. Then the bartender became extremely rude and started yelling and ushering our male friends out. There was a slight confrontation, on the bartender's part, but we finished our drinks and left.
I was a bartender for years. I know what it's like to have a crappy night and just want people to get out of your bar, so honestly I can understand or at least maybe excuse everything, up until this point....
Monday morning I checked my back account and had a pending transaction for $20 from Shannon's on Pine. Ok, all is still right.
Then on Tuesday, as all of my weekend transactions posted, I had a $50 charge from Shannon's on Pine. I don't know if it's well-known, but when you initially run a card at a restaurant or bar, it only authorizes the charge for the amount of the bill, and the transaction pends. Then the server/bartender puts in the tip, and the transaction posts for the amount with the tip a few days later. Which means, that this bartender ADDED IN A $30 TIP FOR HIMSELF AFTER I HAD SIGNED MY RECEIPT!!!
I called my friend and vented to her about it, and at that time she informed me that the bartender never gave her back that $20 cash I asked him to. So now at this point, that bartender not only kept the extra $20, but OVERCHARGED MY CARD BY $30, giving himself a $50 tip for the night!! That's $1 less than our freakin bill was!!!
I called to speak with the manager. He wouldn't take my call. I left a detailed message with whoever answered the phone. It's been two days and he still hasn't called me back. So I called my bank and am disputing the charges.
Shannon's, you can suck it...
Good bar to get wasted at!!!! Â Good young crowd.
Friendly bartenders that serve strong cheap drinks.  Haven't tried the food but if you don't see anything u like on their food menu, they let you bring in your own.  Tons of televisions to watch all the sports you'd like. They also have pool tables and a good jukebox with good music.
The only thing that sucks, of course, is the ladies restroom.  2 toilets  but no dividing stalls.  So if theres a shy girl that wont let you share the room, your going to have to wait a little longer to handle your business.
This is my local, and it's pretty damn awesome. I'm usually here Fridays after work with a friend just to chill, drink, and have a good time. So in the interest of letting you go get your drink on, we'll make this quick.
1) 2 hour free parking at the structure on 4th (by the walmart)
2) friendly bartenders that will drink with you (alex, gerry, Â and cody are my favs)
3) drinks that won't cost you an arm and a leg - pitchers are $11 and shots are pretty reasonable as well.
4) TVs and music. sure most of the time it's a sporting match of some sort, but the juke box has pretty much all the music you'll need and then some. it even has music from bands that aren't on the top 40.
5) did i mention cheap drinks and friendly people? the crowd here is pretty chill and you'll always be able to have an interesting chat with someone.
so now you know the basics, pull up a stool, ask for a pint, and drink up!
Now this is my kind of place...a neighborhood dive bar! Or at least that's how it was the night I was there. I strolled in around midnight and didn't leave until 3am. Most of the patrons were locals and having a ball. And when the couple next me and my friend started doing shots of Jameson with the bartendar, I, of course, Â had to join in. And no night is complete without singing Don't Stop Believin' with all your new bar friends...fun times indeed! Stiff drinks, cool bartenders, fun peeps. Highly recommended for late night!
Did I mention the rotating Jameson sign???
My friends and I were in Long Beach and we were looking for a dive bar. Â Shannon was close and it had great reviews.
When I walked in, I was like WHOA, this looks way nicer than I thought was something that was tag "dive bar" Â
The bartender on hand: Sarah was super awesome. Â She was very friendly also quite attractive.
There was a pool table in the back which was free! I'm guessing just during the afternoon. Â But that was an added bonus! Â
There's a lot of bars in Long Beach but I'll be back to this one again for sure!
this bar was the first bar I got actually drunk at, tried most of my first drinks at, and got to develop the relationship with my girlfriend. So that being said... 5 stars.
The people there are always kind making it feel nothing like a dive bar but the prices cant be beat. Plus what dive bar do you know sells actual food? and its good! It's also one of the few places tin downtown LB that have cider on tap, and if thats something you have not had, its a must.
A lot of the reviews are saying the bar has changed and honestly it has been for the better. More games, more TVs and just more room for more people.
This bar has been amazing to me, I am not even much of a drinker but I would stop and have a drink anytime. Thanks for the memories Shannon's.
This is a good bar to just chill with your friends. I wouldn't recommend going here looking for men, because a lot of them are CREEPY. Luckily, it was a sausage fest the night I went. I felt really awkward walking to and from anywhere, because all the men were giving me stare downs. And it doesn't help that the place is small, so they're literally an inch from your face.
DRINKS: The drinks are OKAY. My friend bought a pitcher of beer and it only filled up 3-4 small plastic cups. The bartenders are really nice, even the girls! Usually, girl bartenders act kind of snooty towards their women customers, but not these ones! I wanted to buy a strong, yet tasty shooter for my friend, and the bartender recommended the Cactus Cooler. It tasted too good to be true, but I believe it helped get the job done cuz my friend was drunk the whole night!
RESTROOM: SMELLED LIKE THROW-UP. I wish there was a hallway in-between the restroom and bar area, but there wasn't. So if you're waiting at the bar for a drink, you're definitely getting a whiff of that bad boy. I do like that there are two toilets in the women's restroom, so the wait isn't that long.
FUN FACT: I accidentally threw my purse in the trash can, but it was luckily still there when I came back for it.
It's bigger and better than before. Â I've ventured into Shannon's since it first arrived about 4 years ago. Â Back then, it was a small dive bar that felt crowded when there were more than 20 people there. Â Now, they've taken over part of the neighboring restaurant. Â The expanded size now allows for a seating area with booths, a shuffle board area, and big screen TVs everywhere. Â This is now a place to hang out.
If you want to toss back a few brews with other barflies, then this is your place!
.., I love this spot, it's been a good time every time we come here. I've yet to grab a drink at the other bars here on pine but I fancy this pub & I fancy the drinks here. Â
Decent prices with a juke box, pool table & a shuffle board table, I can spend hours here. Wasn't here before they renovated it but the new Shannon's has a pretty good size for a pub or a dive and the crowd is usually pretty chill along w/ their sexy bartenders. There's an outdoor section if you want to smoke a cig & it's still part of the bar so u can drink and check out what's going on outside on Pine Ave. Played shuffle board w/ my buddy Daniel against some chaps from England named Nigel & Martin the other night & that was pretty funny. Good times here, check it out!
I would categorize this place as a college dive. Â Not dirty enough to be a dive but not clean enough to be a bar for the local alcoholics. Â I happen to love this place for Sunday Funday. Â I was first introduced to this bar by a new defunct short lived relationship where I watched 30 people have a greyhound race before 2 p.m. Â While I spend my time at Shannon's more on the tame side these days it has everything you need for Sunday football. Â Lots of screens everywhere you look, good bartenders (minus the girl who poured water all over her white t-shirt last time I was there..but that might be a positive for a lot of you yelpers), and decent prices.
I have never eaten here so I can't really speak to that but I hear it's decent bar grub.
****If the Drinks are stiff the bar gets mad stars****
This is in the heart of downtown very conveniently located next to all the other bars/restaurants/lounges but if you're looking into something more "Dive-ish" well this is the spot!
The bar can get a little packed depending on the night but if you're cool with the bartenders and tip generously I promise you they will remember your face every time you go up and order your dranky dranks or better yet your pitchers of beer...I was pretty excited they had Stella pitchers...Yikes!
They also have a juke box and some mini bar olympic games there...don't recall exactly which ones but everyone looked pretty entertained on that end of the bar
Good spot to chill and get your drink on!
It's like a college bar, rather than just a dive-dive. Â It's pretty clean but in the lady's bathroom, there's two toilets side-by-side (no walls) in what looks to be a single-occupancy bano. Â They have many tvs and a pool table. Â The bartender and people that I met that night were all very friendly and chill. Â
Kinda has that irish pub feel and look. Â It probably is just that. Â I like their selection of drafts and drink suggestions. Â I liked the mind-eraser and ice tea (which is the same as ice pick). Â I drank a lot when I came here... but good thing i stuck with stellas closer to last call... or else...
Came in for pre-drink before attending the Long Beach Pink Party with my girlfriends and I have to admit this place ain't bad! Â Great drinks, very fast bartenders along with a pool table and other video games. Â
Sadly my 1st time here I had a party fowl moment and I wasn't even drunk (TRUE STORY) I was getting up on the bar stool and place my drink on the flimsy table and the table was uneven so of course, the table tipped down sending both my girlfriends and my own drink  all over my dress and there was glass and Ice everywhere!
The bartender who made my drink rushed over, moved us to another table, and made us the 2 drinks that fell over free of charge. Â He was my hero that night even if I couldn't save myself from the embarrassment. Â Â
Also an interesting tidbit,... in the Women's bathroom there's 2 toilets, IN ONE ROOM, like your in prison or something. Â I will say it is handy when a line starts to form.
Let me make this short:
Shannons is always crowded, 99.9% guys! Â Its a small narrow place but great to hang out! Â =D Theres always loud music (Any type; country, hard rock, metallica, u name it!) Cool place to watch sports, most of their drinks are pretty strong! (Absolutely NOT expensive!) Every time my friends and I go, we always meet someone. So go to Shannons and make friends!
I hate feeling like a tourist in my own city. Â That's why I don't sleep with the locals and I avoid Pine Avenue on the weekends.
Shannon's is a little slice of straight bar pie in the lamest part of town. Â Nestled in a row of shops that resemble knock-off Urban Outfitters and Vidal Sasoons, this place is pretty cool. Â It is insanely crowded here on the weekends, but it' still rocks pretty hard. Â
Shannond's is a super narrow rectangle with one of the longest bars on Pine. Â It's so narrow here, people are continuously grazing your sides with their chubby arms and muffin tops. Â It's so narrow, both Olsen twins could not walk side by side. Â I will put up with this nonsence for their jukebox. Â I've heard the likes of NIN, Nirvana and Neo.
Theee's not much I can complain about. Â The bartenders are not eye candy, but they're funny and personal even when they're busy. Â I think I found a new home.
Even though I am agnostic, I may still believe in heaven. My perfect heaven would be a cozy dive bar near the beach that has a good juke box, stiff drinks, HD tvs, friendly bartenders, non-pretentious (yet good-looking) crowd, holiday hours and specials, and "hangover specials" of bloody marys (made by scratch...not with that Finest Call mix crap) with biscuits and gravy on the weekends.
What? That place exists? Hold on, I need to pinch myself. OUCH!
Sweet, I didn't have to die to go to heaven.
Having read the wretched reviews and heard the rumors and seen the weirdly long lines for Shannon's on 2nd, I was really expecting the worst from Shannon's on Pine, but I just had to try it out while searching for a good local dive bar within stumbling distance. I was unexpectedly and happily surprised!
I headed out to Shannon's on a Sunday night, which may not be representative of the usual crowd -- ie, every time I've walked by it's been packed. But tonight the bar was sparsely populated with what seemed to be locals shouting at the TV. What made it such a memorable and enjoyable experience was the bartender, Jason. Never have I met a better or nicer bartender. He actually introduced himself to me and shook my hand. He let my friend open and pour her own shot of Knob's Creek. He hooked other patrons up with gaggles of ladies on the other side of the bar. He obligingly eeked out the last half-pint of Coors Light from the supposedly empty tap, just to please his customers. Loved him, ergo loved the bar.
The patrons, on the other hand, were clearly regulars and clearly disinterested in us. Not to say they were rude or threatening, just uninterested in chatting. Could be a Sunday-night thing.
