This is an awesome bar! The staff is friendly, the customers are amusing, and the owner is hands down one of the sweetest people I've ever come across! You can't find bars like this. Go in there just to give Sherry a hard time- trust me, by the end of the night she'll be one of your best friends.Rock on, Sherry's Bar!!
Review Source:You have to know what you're in for when you go to a bar like this. In this particular case, take the location (and any "competing" bars) into consideration. Once you do, you may be pleasantly surprised by this wonderful little dive.
The service is incredibly friendly. In fact, I probably shouldn't say this, but when a buddy of mine and I asked what the special was one night--and reacted with hesitation when the bartender told us it was a drink we're not huge fans of--she said, "Okay, what would you get instead if you could" and we named our favorite mid-shelf whiskey and she said "I can do that for $4". Make your own specials??! Where else in this city would you ever hear of that? I can't/shouldn't say that's necessarily typical of this place, but the hospitality of the gesture sure is.
Now mind you, it is a dive. But it certainly seems clean and safe compared to the sketchy feel of many of the other bars in this area (North Lincoln Square / Budlong Woods)--especially if you've seen some of those other bars after 11pm.
Glad to have found a nice neighborhood dive within stumbling distance. :)
Like the Ministry song, Everyday is Halloween at Sherry's Bar! Â I'm not sure what year the halloween decorations were hung here but the cobwebs hanging from them are real. Â It's fitting for this bar. Â It's dark, a little rough around the edges but doesn't take itself too seriously. Â
The times I have gone to Sherry's, the bartenders act just like the patrons. Â They engage in long conversations, check their blackberry's and often step out from behind the bar to dance w/ their friends. Â It may not result in speedy service but great hospitality regardless. Â The prices are low and peanuts free. Â The diverse crowd may be intimidating to some but everyone has always been super friendly to me. Â Most of the patrons must live in the neighborhood because street parking is always available in front of Sherry's despite being busy. Â It might also be that the patrons like to really tie one on and are smart enough not to drive esp. on Western Ave where there are tons of cops looking for action!
