First off - this place isn't open at 11am. Â At least, it wasn't when I swung by at noon to try a few beers. Â
That being said, this place has some hit or miss beers - some are great, most are okay, and a couple are just not very good. Â Everyone else in my group hated the strawberry beer, but I was okay with it - not terrible, not amazing. Â The "whale" beer knocked my friend's socks off - it was just okay to me. Â But their... Â amber...? beer? (sorry, it was the 4th brewery that day!) was great. Â
Also, we bought way too many pretzels. Â Order them once, and you will too. Â With the honey mustard sauce. Â Our table went through, like, 4 baskets of them.
For a little brewpub in a somewhat seedy part of STL this place was really good. So good, that I was really impressed. Impressed with the food, but not so much for their beers.
Pesto chicken flatbread -- really excellent. More like a pizza than a flatbread, but whatever.
Caeser Salad was very good as well.
can't remember what my friend had, as I was somewhat buzzed and exhausted after just riding on two airplanes, Â but if Jerry said it was excellent, that is good enough for me.
Four stars.
(Beer and food review near bottom)
6 row excels at gathering friends together who want to have a relaxed, conversation filled evening with their friends.
The microbrewery is near and dear to my heart. I came here every Tuesday with a group of friends one summer for their $10 pitcher special and got started on enjoying the craft of beer. I now would consider myself a sort of beer snob, and I have 6 Row to thanks for it.
Isaac, their bartender, is my favorite bartender in all of St. Louis. He is eccentric, easy to talk to, professional, and loves what he does. If you want a perfect pour, ask for Isaac and tell him Mike sent you.
Since then, 6 row has grown. It added a food menu and now has upstairs seating with a lounge area complete with darts, tv, and a shuffleboard.
The beer: hit and miss, unfortunately :(. Their porter and hefeweizen are my two favorites. I could drink the honey(hefe)weizen anytime all the time. The porter I typically get as a 'dessert'.
Some of my friends and I agree in that as they have grown, their flavor is less consistent. Or maybe it is consistent, but it is not what we remember originally. Regardless, the staff is very generous and let's you try whatever you'd like before you get the pint, so I'd recommend that. They have plenty of styles, and I imagine it would be unlikely they do not have one (or two) you will be very satisfied with.
The food: The menu is fantastic FOR THEIR PURPOSES. It is mostly stuff to pick on in case you have a hunger. It is by no means gourmet or the best food I've had, but the place is a microbrewery. Food comes second and it is obvious that their beer takes first place. Â (sidenote: I do really like Schafly's food. Can they still be considered a microbrewery? I'm not sure.)
Conclusion: Go to 6 Row, ask for Isaac, and have an amazing time.
Good beer, mediocre service. They didn't have half the menu available during 2 recent Saturday visits. I tried to book a 20 person party for a weeknight and their event coordinator never returned numerous emails and phone calls. Square 1 was more than happy to take our money. Too bad really, they have a lot of potential. I see an out of business sign in their future.
Review Source:If you like to try craft beers, you've got to visit Six Row. If you're expecting something the size of Schlafly, you're going to be surprised when you walk in...it has a relatively small seating area. As with most breweries, you can get a sampler flight here. The interesting twist, though, is that you can choose to get 6, 7, or 8 5oz. samples and the flights are really reasonably priced.
As some other Yelpers have mentioned, you've got to check out the upstairs. There are two rooms up there: a big one with a few tables, chairs, & shuffleboard and then a smaller one with fancy leather wing chairs and the classiest foosball table I've personally seen. Six Row also has some boardgames available so, if you're with a larger group and you're looking to settle in for a fun night, grab some board games and head upstairs.
Went here for the release of there "Punktoberfest" during craft beer week. Really cool spot.
Got the Buffalo Chicken Nachos, which were delicious, along with a flight of the beer (including the new one). There's almost daily beers being unveiled here and always a comeplling specail or deal any day of the week.
Also, you may not realize, but there is an upstairs with shuffleboard. I was there with a large group and we were able to hang with the whole upstairs area to ourselves.
Strawberry Weizen...mmm!
Tuesday is Pizza n' a Pitcher night, so you pick you pitcher and get a large 1 topping pizza (thin crust) for $15, which is a steal!
The rest of the menu is a bit steep (in my humble opinion) for bar type food with the Chicken Quesadilla & Buffalo Chicken Nachos ringing in at $9/$10, the majority of the sandwiches or wraps, about the same and entrees topping out at the $14 range.
Tried the Honey Weizen, Strawberry Weizen, Whale and the Red Eye IPA which were all good, although the two Weizen's were my favorite. My only comment to the Strawberry Weizen, is that there was only a slight flavor, but still good. Another friend also tried the Bacon Porter, and liked it, but also noted the bacon flavor was faint.
Service was quick, the Card's game was on  and the atmosphere was relaxed. Although not open, there was a sign indicating additional seating, darts & games upstairs.
I would definitely come back during a special!
We decided to go here for my husband's birthday. We are big into local craft brewing and wanted to try it out.
We split their beer sampler - 4 year 'round beers, and 4 seasonal beers. If you're in to hops, this is definitely the place for you. Several beers with 60 and higher IBUs. If not, the Honey Wheat or Whale are great lighter beer choices.
They were out of the Mac 'n Cheese so I got the pasta marinara. My husband got the meatloaf, which is bacon wrapped. We both enjoyed our meals, although you really just should come for the beer.
The service was a tad slow - 1 server, but the bar/seating is pretty minimal. If you like local craft beer, this is a great place!
Decided to visit Six Row while on a microbrewery tour of St. Louis, and I'm very glad we did.
The narrow bar greeted us as we entered and we took a seat and perused our options. Â They have a very limited food menus, but we decided just to try some brews.
We went with the $10 for 8 Â samples of beer. We got 3oz pours of 4 standards: Whale, Honey Weizen, Double IPA, and a Porter. Â We also tried the 4 seasonals Strawberry Weizen, ESB, Stout, & Red Ale. Â All of them were tasty but I especially enjoyed the Whale and the ESB, which had a great roasted toffee flavor. Â
I liked the relaxed atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Â Definitely a good stop for beer fans.
Sixth Row has great beers. There's no two ways about it. The Double IPA is my favorite by far. Their beer is definitely the reason you should come here - it's not overpriced and it's delicious.
Their food is also not bad - I've had a few of the sandwiches (most recently the Caprese, which tasted great) although have not ventured into their more substantial "entree" land. It just seems like a beer-and-sandwich kind of bar.
Why four and not five stars? Man the service is weird. Sixth Row is both a seat-yourself kind of place, and a server-comes-to-your table place. The result is that the servers seem like they wish they were bartending (although they did have dedicated servers). Our waitress could not get away from us fast enough.
Another heads up for soccer fans - it seems like this is a soccer bar to me, it's always on the TVs and they have soccer decor on the walls. As a non-soccer aficionado, I honestly haven't paid those details much attention, but it could be a good place to catch soccer games.
I went here Friday night. I had two beers: the vanilla porter and then the honey weizen. They were both good, but I especially enjoyed the vanilla porter. The color was a deep, chocolatey brown. The flavor was sweet but not overwhelmingly so.
The atmosphere was relaxed with '80s music playing in the background--but not too loudly. The walls were decorated with soccer jerseys. The staff was friendly; I was offered a sample of the vanilla porter when I asked a few questions about it and then decided I would definitely take that beer.
I will definitely be coming back here.
I stopped at Six Row for my birthday with a group of friends as part of a micro-brew pub crawl. We started at Schlafly, went to Six Row, Four Hands, and ended the night at Urban Chestnut. Overall the atmosphere of Six Row was very warm and welcoming, it has a very rustic feel. The bartenders and wait staff were friendly and helpful.
We ordered the sampler since we really couldn't decide on a beer, and I have to admit I really wanted to like the beer but nothing really stood out for me, yes it was better than Bud Light, Coors, etc. However compared to other places I just felt that I didn't have a single beer at Six Row that jumped out enough to be "my beer". It might have been an off night, so I will probably go back and give them a try again however the rest of my group felt the same way.
What can I say beyond 5 starts for one of my favorite micro-breweries in St. Louis. I remember when these guys opened and I met the owner/brewmasters at a special "first time" tasting at ITAP in Chesterfield and they had such a huge vision for their beer.
Looking at the guys now they have definitely hit the bullseye. Â Not only do they have a great bar now you can order some really yummy food and have one of their exceptional handcrafted beers.
This is place that can advertise a "Bacon Porter" on Facebook at 5pm and the cask is gone in less than an hour.
Bottom line: Go! Enjoy Beer!
I went on a little beer journey on my latest trip to St. Louis and I have to say this place did not dissappoint. Â I loved the location of the brewery first off. Â The seating was ample and the rustic look really worked for the space. Â My friends and I easily moved two tables together to accomodate our party. Â I loved how they had board games too. Â I am such a sucker for LIFE!
The beer is pretty good. Â I had the Killer Whale. Â It was malty and pleasant, with a staggering 9% ABV. Â I am pretty sure I was right to only have one snifter of it! Â I split the gooey butter cake with cinnamon ice cream with my girlfriend. Â Gooey Butter Cake is a STL specailty. Â It is a dense little cake bursting with butter flavor. Â The cinnamon ice cream was my favorite part though!
This is for sure on my check list for my next visit back!
Six Row is...fine. Clean pub, upstairs with darts, foosball, and shuffleboard, located right near SLU. Â There's nothing terribly stand-out about this location or anything particularly bad either. Â
The food is standard, the sandwiches are OK, and the beer is good. Â Plenty of seating, small parking lot behind the building.
No doubt that this place has delicious beer. There are six regular beers always on tap and a rotation of season beers to top off the list. The best part of the experience is probably the food. The beer is good enough to make the trip here worth while, but the menu is packed with delicious treats as well. My personal favorite item is the nachos.
There is a decent amount of seating inside and they have games to keep you entertained while you pass the the pints with you friends.
Gosh I read the reviews here and it must be because of the beer, (Humm), but because I'm not that big of a beer drinker and couldn't tell you how their beers are, let me just say that its rare that I give someone 5 stars, but I can only give reviews based on my visit. This particular day was a good experience and me and my boyfriend agreed that we would return.
We went this past Friday while it was pouring down rain. We decided to go here because we do love going to new places to eat. When we arrived, we were greeted and told we can sit wherever we chose. We were helped immediately, which was good. My boyfriend ordered the pastrami and I had a turkey sandwich with bacon and we both had these seasoned-typed chips with it. We had the cheese garlic bread as we waited on our meals. Â Although we love our "grown folk "drinks, we chose to have diet cokes, LOL. And I'm sorry, but my food was dang good! The server was pleasant and attentive, the place was clean, the crowd was cool, and the basketball game was on, LOL! We torn into those chips because they were so good. My turkey sandwich was fresh; the bacon was not overcooked; the bread was soft. All in all I just think that they were good on everything from service to food and would go back again.
After having the Vanilla Porter from Six Row at a couple places in St. Louis, we decided to go to the source for dinner. Â There were 5 of us on a Tuesday night. Â They weren't very busy at all, so we got a table right away. Â I opted for the Export Stout to drink. Â It had a great coffee taste without it being too overpowering.
All 5 of us ordered a different entree, I got the Sausage Baked Pesto. Â Others got the Mac n Cheese, Chicken Pesto Pizza, Walnut Salad and Turkey Club. Â We were all so impressed with the tastes of our entrees, we shared amongst one another. Â It was all fantastic.
Add to that great service (friendly and on top of things) and we had a great dining experience! Â Will be back!
Over the last few months, we've passed and gawked longingly at Six Row a few times. Â We finally stopped by on the way to a Blues Game last Friday. Â We had a couple of appetizers, the Companion pretzel and the Artichoke toastettes. Â These were both pretty phenomenal on their own, but especially as an accompaniment to a couple of cold beers. Â The toastettes are on rye, so if you don't like rye, give it a pass. Â The pretzel was probably the best I've ever eaten - soft and pillowy and wonderful.
The big star here has to be the beer, otherwise what's the point? Â We tried the flight, which kind of frustratingly includes four beers that can't be changed, added by two others from what's currently on tap. Â This is a little aggravating because one of the beers is a double IPA that we knew we wouldn't like. Â Sure enough, it was extremely bitter and not something we'll ever like. Â I finished it of course, what with all the starving children in India that never even get a beer. Â
The beertenders were jovial and happy to provide a taste of whatever we wanted. Â I guess the free tastes are to be expected at a brewpub, but these guys were extremely knowledgeable and interested in what we thought, which made it fun. Â
We'll be back, for sure. Â If you're a beer lover, Six Row should be on your list to try. Â Good stuff.
So, this place isn't bad. It's not quite Urban Chestnut or Square One Brewing quality (in my opinion), but it certainly has some merit.
My parents and I stopped in the Wednesday before Thanksgiving -- it was fairly empty, so we sidled up to the bar and ordered a few beers, as well as a sampler to share.
Now, it always frustrates me when a brewery offers a menu or listing of AMAZING sound brews, only to find out that the really amazing ones are sold out, or aren't being served. When asked why, I usually get the answer "the brewer only made a small batch of it...."
So, hmmmm. I'm fairly certain it's pretty easy to predict when certain beers are gonna be fairly popular-- so how about making LARGE batches of those instead?
Just a thought.
Anywho, my fave was the vanilla porter - which I believe may not be available anymore. Their standard porter wasn't too bad either, and the Dunkelweizen was okay too.
Service was a bit on the unfriendly side -- but it still proved a pretty chill place to spend an hour or two (though I think that may not always be the case when SLU kids are back in session). Word to the wise on that one.
When I give a bad review to a restaurant, I always think, I need to go there again, and give in a second chance. I did that with Six Row and still the verdict is: Not impressed. It's not bad, I would probably go again if someone wanted to, but just not that good.
I have to give it props for keeping out the SLU rats in an area that is infested with them. But in getting in the attitude of maintaining a "certain crowd," the whole vibe of the place comes off a little alienating to all its patrons.
SRBC does have a cool adult vibe that you would normally find in Tower Grove or CWE, but I think all of it's problem lies in the fact that it is in the completely wrong area. The attitude of their servers both times was a little uninviting and unfriendly and both times I went with a group of about 5 and we are all younger 20 somethings. Â I know I am young, but I an of age paying customer. Last time I checked, I didn't throw up or pass out in the bathroom, so please quit treating me like I just did. I realize they have this kind of cold exterior to maintain crowd and atmosphere, but they try so hard to not be penny pitchers at Humphrey's that the "adult vibe" can come off boring, old, and restrictive. Never good adjectives when describing a brewery.
What earns the 3 stars is the beer selection and decor. If Six Row would loosen up a bit, it could be a great adult spot in Midtown.
My husband and I joined two other couples for a birthday dinner on a Wednesday evening. Â I can't really comment on the beer, as I am not a beer drinker, beyond my husband seeming to enjoy the DIPA. Â What I can comment on I found to be lackluster at best.
This spot is fairly small and wasn't at all what I would call packed, so I found the extremely slow service to be surprising. Â By the time I got to the table, apps had already been order - house chips and buffalo chicken nachos. Â I'd say it was a good 20-30 minutes before they came out, which seems a little on the long side to me. Â The chips were pretty good though nothing special. Â I didn't try the nachos since I'm a huge spicy weenie.
We eventually ordered our entrees, myself the salmon burger easy on the butter and chipotle aoili on the side. Â Most of my compatriots ordered a sandwich or panini. Â The entrees, once again, took a good 30 minutes or more to come out which seemed extraordinarily long for sandwiches. Â
Once our food came out, my burger was smothered in chipotle aoili. Â Another dinner who requested no horseradish had it on his sandwich as well. Â He sucked it up and ate it. Â I sent mine back after trying the aoili and realizing it was going to be far too spicy. Â I figured I'd be waiting, once again, forever to get served, but my replacement was out in 5 minutes or less! Â What took so long the first time?! Â The waitress did apologize profusely - I'll give them that.
My side salad was good - nothing too special, but the St. Louis in me thoroughly enjoys a salad with provel. Â The salmon burger was edible but not great. Â It tasted like some pre-packaged, frozen burger they heat up on the grill. Â Considering the speed with which my replacement was provided, I'd guess that was the case. Â Everyone else seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, so I guess I just picked the wrong item...?
I really thought Six Row was just "meh", but I rounded up a tad, and will give them three stars.
We stopped here on a whim last night, after checking out the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. I had tried their Whale beer at another place, and it was just okay, but they were on our places to eventually try, so we stopped in.
It was pretty empty, but had a few people at the bar, who I assume were regulars and/or knew the owners/bartenders, because they kept going back in this secretive door marked employees only. No big deal, I don't care.
Our waitress was just iffy, she seemed bored. The menu was definitely not what I was expecting, it was pretty small with uninspiring options. The boyfriend settled on the Buffalo Chicken Nachos, and I got a turkey panini.
I seriously have had better paninis at Bread Co., and my boyfriend wasn't impressed with the nachos.
The beer was solid, though I think they should reconsider what they called their double IPA - not very hoppy at all, sorry.
All in all, we decided we probably wouldn't make a trip to come here again, and if we were in the area we may stop for a beer - but not worth it to grab food.
So, meh...there's better places.
Let me start out saying, I enjoy Six Row Brewing Company Beer. I really like their Whale, but my experience here was not acceptable.
It all began with our entrance and how we were greeted. We did not hear, "Hi, welcome to Six Row Brewing Company" or anything similar. Instead the bartender said, "seat yourself, we'll get at you soon". Â Okay, I do not mind seating myself, but welcoming me before barking an order to seat myself would been more personable.
Now I know they were extremely busy, they had three people at the bar and two others seated at a table, so we understood why it took 5 minuets to come over to our table. Which gave us time to find two menus laying on another table and begin to decide what we wanted to eat. Â Very limited menu and it really isn't a typical pub food.
When the bartender came over to take our order, we asked what she would recommend and what was her favorite. She would only tell us what was popular, which isn't a rousing endorsement when you are not willing to tell what you like. Â I love pastrami and when I asked where theirs came from, she replied "I don't know". Â I refrained from asking her go check, figuring it might stress her out. We then asked to give us a moment to decide what we wanted.
As she returned to the bar, we made the decision to leave. Â We excused ourselves, saying thank-you but we wanted something different. All we heard was, "okay". I must expect to much, I can deal with "okay", but let's add, "hope to see you again". We may have not stayed today, but at least tempt us to come back.
We went to The Scottish Arms and enjoyed a couple Whales on draft a great meal and incredible service.
Meh.
Every time we come in for Happy Hour, the place is empty. Probably because they don't have any drink specials for Happy Hour. Their appetizers were a dollar off, though, and I tried a quesadilla. I've never had a bad quesadilla before, but that may have been one of the best I've ever had, I'll give them that.
This place is just a little too bougie for me. By 6 or 7 it's filled with middle aged white dudes in Nike dri-fit golf shirts. Not my scene.
The service isn't bad, but the servers are always a little cold/snooty to us. They get the job done, but I'd like a little more fake enthusiasm to go with my Honey Weizen (which is okay, not great) and amazing quesadilla.
P.S. Overpriced. Bonus points for easy parking.
What can I say about Six Row Brew Co?
Since my review last year they have improved in all areas that I mentioned were flaws (i.e. the food menu). Also they are always having some kind of cask opening.
I haven't had the lunch menu but the dinner is quite tasty.
This place is one of my favorites in St. Louis and definitely worth the visit if you are in Mid-Town.
What a chill place!
Six Row Brew Co is located in Midtown, steps away from the Grand Metrolink station, and a few blocks from SLU.
I came here tonight with a few friends, and it was great! Six Row is very laid-back, and the atmosphere is inviting and warm.
I started with a Honey Weizen, and it was so delicious I stuck with it for the majority of the night. Smooth and sweet, it reminded me of a richer version of Blue Moon. I don't know much about beer, so I'll stop there!
Food-wise, we split some appetizers (the best way to go, in my opinion!) We had the buffalo chicken nachos, the soft companion pretzel, and some chicken wings.
Everything was delish! The pretzel was warm and soft, and the cheese sauce served with it was perfect! The chicken wings were flavorful and had a bit of a kick to them. However, the buffalo chicken nachos stole the show for me. The chips were fresh and the chicken was amazing! So flavorful and tangy.
For dessert, we ordered both the gooey butter cake and the brownie. Each came with a delicious side of ice cream. Both dessert were spectacular, but the gooey butter cake stole my heart. Wow! Soft, warm, and delicious.
Service was friendly and down to earth. I couldn't ask for more.
I will definitely be back at Six Row next time the urge strikes. Great beer and delicious food -- what more could a girl ask for?
So it's been a year since Six Row opened. Z and I thought it was about time to swing in for some drinks and celebrate a successful year for Six Row. We were lucky enough to score a table at their anniverary party on Dec 4th. My brother was in town and is also quite a beer drinker (it runs in the family!) and we wanted to impress him with some local microbrews. Spirits were high, the service was great. Our server actually kept track of what we each drank and split the check for us without even asking! We even got to taste the snazzy Six Row birthday cake! It was a great night and my brother was super impressed. (My theory is if I take him to enough cool places in STL, he might move here, which would rock my little world!)
Good news: They are (or already have) added a food menu! Now you can get fresh eats to sop those fresh drinks. Hotcha!
The beautiful wife and I stopped by here for a quick pint. Â 99% of the reason why I wanted to come was for their porter, which had been featured in Feast. Â Or Sauce. Â Or some St. Louis food magazine. Â But it looked great.
And it was really good. Â And the staff was friendly. Â But there's just _something_ off about the atmosphere. Â It's too dark to be bright, friendly spot, too bright to be dark, pubish (pubs not pubes) place. Â And yeah, I know normally I don't care about the decor, but there was something that made me want to paint the walls brown.
Furthermore, file under ironic, but  for a non-smoking place, it was smokey due to the kitchen.  I guess only certain smoke kills...
And they have some old school you'll-poke-somebody's-eye-out dart boards, but they're hung above tables. Â Say what? Â Are they just part of the decor? Â I mean, I suck at darts. Â Am I liable if I hit somebody?
There's just something lacking here -- maybe if we hadn't come here just for a pint, it would have soaked in or something. Â It felt more like a hotel bar that a neighborhood joint.
Driving past Six Row a few days ago, a friend remarked that he felt sorry for the owners. Â From his point of view, Six Row was being completely eclipsed (in terms of persons served) by Library Annex and Humphreys and was destined for the dustbin of the Great Recession. Â I asked him if he had ever been to Six Row. Â When he replied in the negative, I told him not only was he missing the point of Six Row, he was missing out on a great beer experience.
There are uses, in this city, for places like the Annex and Humphreys. Â For whatever those uses are, they are wholly different from the reason Six Row exists. Â Six Row is your friendly neighborhood tap, offering a few munchies, superior craft brews, and personal service in an intimate setting. Â The place is infinitely inviting. Â With its free parking, its lanterns burning bright, and its wood, brass, and copper interior, Six Row has an ability to transport its patrons. Â Don't believe me? Â Try wandering in on some cold winter's eve.
We had an absolutely fantastic time here watching the consolation (third place) game of the World Cup. Â It wasn't terribly crowded, the service was awesome, good views of multiple TV's, decent food, and best of all - amazingly good craft beer!
In just about every aspect Six Row is my kind of place. Â A classy joint full of people who love beer and the people who love people who love beer. Â The bartenders are quick to show off samplers of the different varieties and recommend one for you. Â They seem to know their beer pretty well too.
Here's my breakdown on the brews:
Kolsch: Â very good beer with an especially good finish. Â Great if you are thirsty.
Extra Pale Ale: Â Awesomely bitter. Â I love the aftertaste.
Whale: Â I only had a sampler but opted for the EPA over this one. Â I think next time I will be down for a pint.
Bavarian Hefeweizen: Oh..my..god. Â Simply amazing. Â There's so much flavor here that you almost can't believe this is beer. Â It's perfect. Â So perfect I opted for a second pint instead of trying the Whale.
Word on the street is that the porter is good too but I am not a porter/stout kind of guy so I will pass.
This is not the place to come when you have a large group to please or if you have that dull friend who only drinks bud light. Â Food selections are scarce, but satisfactory for a light meal. Â They have a limited bar for non-beer drinkers so those of you with non-beer-drinking-S.O's can come here without fear of a punishmnent shopping excursion to Bed Bath & Beyond or Pier 1. Â
You can get their beer on draft at a few local establishments, but I think every beer lover owes themselves a visit here first. Â If you are looking for a classy bar to try some delicious craft beer, I can't recommend this place highly enough.
I can't wait to go back to 6RBC and give it another shot. Â I hit it up a while back maybe a month after it opened and was really impressed with the place: the pretty cheap craft beers, the fun environment, the quirky location, and the solid service.
My friends and I tried their beer sampler and everybody discovered something they liked. Â Everything was pretty solid as far as I was concerned, but the most unusual was their porter, which definitely had a kick like an old cigar-- powerful!
Fun crowd, here, too. Â Looks like there are some professionals, some SLU students, and so forth.
Can't wait to go back. Â Highly recommended to add to your bar rotation for a nice evening of drinks and conversation.
I went to Six Row for some drinks with friends last Friday around 4:30 pm. Â There were plenty of tables available though the place did fill up as time passed (it was pretty full around 6-6:30 pm).
I ordered the beer sampler and the ESB and  Porter were by far my favorite.  The other beers were good as well just not on the top of my list.  Next time I go in I'll probably just order a pint of ESB now that I've been able to try all of their current styles.
Food selection was limited but we knew that going in. Â I think if the brewery continues to grow in popularity it would make sense for them to start adding additional food options. Â For now though I think their focus on producing excellent beer is the right one.
Went to happy hour at Six Row Brewing last night around 4:00pm. Â
After sitting down, we realized that the waitstaff was not on duty yet, and ordered some beers at the bar. Â Usually, this is not a problem, but given the fact that three of us got the sampler, we would have appreciated some staff help carrying the tray (with all the beers to the table).
Currently, the only offer beer, wine, and some ciders....so be forewarned if you have any hard liquor drinkers.
Once we got settled, the beer was good...especially the ESB and porter. Â When the waiter was on duty, he was very attentive, but not overly so. Â The food menu is very limited, and though we did not have any, it seemed that the most popular item amongst the rest of the place was the pizza.
Right now, seems like a hole in the wall, which I enjoy...and though there were a few snafus, I'll still be back.
I'm thrilled that there are so many options for locally crafted beer in St. Louis, especially in the shadow of A-B, but many of them, Six Row, included, have a ways to go before they can match up with the quality of Schlafly or O'Fallon. As one of the other reviewers noted, the beers are OK. Didn't love them, didn't hate them, but given the choice between them and a Bud, I'd choose Six Row every time.
The staff is extremely friendly and the space is comfy and open making this a great place to hang out until you get hungry -Six Row's food options are peanuts and frozen pizza.
Open just under two-weeks now, Six Row Brewing is beginning to attract quite a crowd. Â The pub is small, cozy and has a very friendly atmosphere. Â Six Row opened in an old Falstaff Brewery Plant just west of Grand on Forest Park Avenue (@ Spring).
I was immediately greeted by both the bartender and Evan, a co-owner and the brewer of the beer. Â Evan Hiatt is a very outgoing and is happy to share information about the origins of the pub and his interest in brewing.
Six Row, the name, is a nod to both a type of grain used to brew beer and to the pub's six owners. Â It is not, however, the only grain used to brew Six Row's beers. Â I sampled a flight of the five beers currently brewed by Six Row. Â I believe I had the ESB, Kolsch, Strong Porter, Extra Pale Ale and the Whale. Â The Whale is a Wheat/Pale Ale hybrid made from 10 different malts. Â It smells heavenly like fresh baked bread.
Food is available, but not the main concern of Six Row. Â Pretzels are available as are what appeared to be 12" frozen pizzas. Â The pub is smoke-free!
The atmosphere is relaxed. Â I witnessed groups of young and old bellying up to the bar or sitting at many of the pub's reclaimed tables. Â The bar tap, I am told, has been reclaimed from the Fox and the Hound bar once open at the Cheshire Inn.
I look forward to stopping by Six Row very soon!
