Came here about a month ago with a group of friends. Several people in the group had been there before, but for me and my fiance it was our first time. We got there and it was a wait which got me excited because that is usually a good thing. Once we got seated outside we got our menu's and they gave me water for my dog and they had their own menus for dogs. I love how dog friendly the place is!
We ordered our food and proceeded to sit there for OVER AN HOUR!! No one came by and said "sorry the kitchen is backed up" or "let me get you a round of drinks" nothing! Even when we became visibly annoyed, our waiter would walk around our table and avoid eye contact with us so that he would not have to come over. FInally I got up and hunted a server down (not our server) and asked what the hold up was and she apologized and said our food should be right out. She was right and the food came out shortly after.
Burger was tasty, but kind of dry and I didn't really taste the bacon. What I loved was the buffalo chicken mac n cheese that my fiance and I ordered. All in all it was fairly average and the bill was close to $60 which is outrageous for two burgers, two beers and some mac n cheese. But the worst part and what will keep me from coming back was the service. I have never had to get up and track down a server in my life. Really sad becomes I am sure he is not representative of the entire business, but it nonetheless left a bad taste in my mouth.
You'll get a food coma after eating here! Def a good place to try if you like appetizers and burgers. I recommend their sweet potato fries, beer battered onion rings, and fried bacon mac n cheese balls. Â The 50/50 Burger, World's Greatest Turkey Burger, and The Eat Your Veggies Burger are all good!
You can also design your burger too.
I love their sauces... they have about 20 sauces to choose from!
This place is great! Great food and great atmosphere! Matt, our server was amazing! He has been my waiter twice and his service is unforgettable. Â
My friends and I ordered the Vampire dip, fried pickles, and macaroni cheese balls. Â All three were great but the Vampire Dip is to die for. Â It comes in a bread bowl with homemade pita chips. Â It really is a must have.
A friend and I designed our own burger. Â Make sure you get the bacon pretzel bun, its amazing. Â The 50/50 burger is awesome! You can't go wrong with a burger that is half beef and half bacon. They offer a ton of different options so you can customize your idea of a perfect burger. They also have over 100 beers on top. Â The Brown Shugga was awesome!
Overall, its a great place to bring friends or family. Â Perfect to watch football and hang out. Â Five stars all the way!
By far the WORST service ever. First off we wait 45min just to get seated. Once seated we are greeted by our waitress Jasmine. After taking our order we waited patiently for about an hour. The waitress kept apologizing which was completely bogus; instead of apologizing she should of done her damn job and brought us our food. Finally after two freaking hours of waiting for our food the manager came over and apologized, comped our bill plus gave us each a free burger gift card. He had our burgers boxed and we were on our way to our hotel. Once at the hotel I was digusted by the scent of the burger itself, it looked disgusting and tasted even worse. Will not be coming to this place.
Review Source:... Novelty...
1. Food -- I've had better burgers. This place was recommended by a friend, so my fiance and I came here for date night. My fiance and I are foodies, so we like to try new spots... anyway --- my fiance had the 5050 burger --- it was seriously whatever; i had the "best turkey burger" -- also whatever. Both were dry, and just nothing out of the ordinary.
2. Service -- front girls were not friendly, no smiles, no greeting, nothing -- whatever.
Our server was friendly, nice, but forgot our orders. he came to us three times to verify what we had ordered. Gave us the wrong order, and was --- very very slow. Granted they were super busy that night, fine -- but this is a burger joint. A lot of servers floating all over, but just as a previous reviewer had indicated -- tons of servers floating around, with seemingly no sense of direction.
3. Price -- not a lot of bang for your buck. For a supposed really good burger joint that did not meet expectations -- i'd rather go elsewhere.
4. Location -- five stars; great location, tons of parking, very scenic area, and very clean
over all... i've had better burgers.
After hearing people rave about this place, I finally decided to give this place a try back in January, and have been there a few times since. Â Now, I know I'm probably not the best person to give a review, as I'm vegan (and sometimes vegetarian, if I'm going out and the menu is limited), but hear me out. Â The first time I went there was on a Sunday afternoon, maybe around 3 pm. It was relatively quiet, and our waiter was great. Â He was super personable and made some recommendations. Â I went with the "design your own" burger with the veggie patty, and was pleasantly surprised. Â The service was good and I left looking forward to my next visit.
Flash forward about 6 weeks. Â We were seated in the bar, and granted it was busy, but it took about 10 minutes before we even had someone come by for our drink order. Â The waitress we had could not seem less enthused to be doing her job, by the way. Â Great attitude for someone in a customer-facing role. Â So we ordered our drinks, appetizers and meal. Â The drinks and appetizers came out shockingly fast. Â I guess that was to make up for the amount of time we'd be waiting for our meal. Â We waited...no joke...about 40 minutes, and still had not received our food. Â Nor did our waitress provide any sort of update, despite the fact that she kept passing back and forth in front of us. Â Finally, at about the 45-minute mark, we asked where our food was. Â She said the kitchen was really backed up and it would come out soon. Â No apologies, no nothing. Â So, we waited another 10 minutes, and finally I'd had it and asked to speak with the manager. Â When our waitress brought the manager over, she didn't say a word but merely moved her hands as if to say "well here they are, the people I told you about." Â
I just sat there, in what I guess I'd call awe at her lack of professionalism. Â When we spoke with the manager and told him how long we'd been waiting, he said he would go check on our meal. Â He returned and told us there was a mix-up with the order and they were working on it at that time. Â So let me get this straight? Â We sat there for nearly an hour and our food was just now getting started??!! Â No way was that ok. Â We told the manager that we'd just like the check for our apps and drinks, and be on our way. Â He tried to convince us to stay, saying that it wouldn't be much longer, but we said it had already been too long. Â He then offered to buy our drinks and apps, despite us telling him again that we were fine paying for the food we received. Â He insisted upon paying, and gave us vouchers for two meals on our next visit.
So...flash forward again, probably a month or so. Â We go back on a weekend afternoon to use our free vouchers. Â Relatively busy but not crazily so. Â We ordered apps and drinks, which were served in an acceptable time frame. Â When we received our apps we placed our meal order. Â I'd say we waited again....about 40 minutes, and no food. Â I couldn't believe this was seriously happening AGAIN!! Â After another ten minutes, the waitress came by and we asked for the status on our food. Â She said it should be right up. Â I believe another 10 minutes or so went by and our burgers finally arrived. Â I was pretty annoyed, to say the least. Â
The manager came by towards the end of the meal and acknowledged that they'd been very slow in delivering our food to us. Â He saw the vouchers next to me on the table and said that he would cover the meal this time. Â He suggested using our vouchers when the service was up to par. Â Now, while I appreciate his covering the meal, it's pretty bad when the service stinks so much that two meals in a row are comped.
Last night we decided to try to give those vouchers another shot. Â We arrived and were quoted a 20 to 30 minute wait, and our table was ready in about 10 minutes. Â We were seated at a small table near the bar, and you're literally bumping into people as you walk down the aisle because they stand behind those seated at the bar. This place is not able to accommodate all the people that congregate in that area. Â Once we're seated the waitress takes our drink order about 7 minutes later. Â We also placed an order for apps at that time, and I gave her our vouchers for the free meals.
Our drinks, water and iced tea, took nearly 10 minutes to arrive. Â At that time she asked if we were ready to order and we said we needed a few more minutes. Â Our apps arrived about 5 minutes later, and 10 minutes after that we were looking around for our waitress so we could order our meals.
Our meals (veggie burger for me and mac and cheese for him) took more than 30 minutes to arrive. Â I decided at that point I was done with Slater's for awhile. Â When the waitress finally brought our check, we were still charged for the meals, so we had to remind her of our vouchers and wait while the total was corrected.
I'm sure the food as a whole is good, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Â I won't be returning anytime soon.
It was decent. Â The fried mac-n-cheese with bacon appetizer was DELICIOUS. Â However, my boyfriend ordered his burger medium and it came out super well done. Â While it was replaced super quickly, I just could not help but wonder why a burger specialty joint can't cook burgers correctly. Â Isn't that weird?
Anyways, the food was good, but super greasy. Â Prepare for a tummy ache later.
Wow! The 50/50 patty is delicious! I like the vast assortment of options for creating my own burger - or salad if I don't want the bun. The fried pickles were delicious as we're the French fries which had an herbed salt shaken over them. The boys had shakes: Oreo and S'more. The S'more shake was the best any of us have ever tasted.
Review Source:If you love bacon - this is your place! It's baconly their whole concept...
They too have a whole build your own burger type menu. And if you're going to go that route I think the only reason to come here would be to try the 50/50 which from my understanding is a combo of bacon and beef ground patty. 1/3lb, 1chz, 4toppings, 1sauce and bun $8.95. Had mine cooked at med. and it was infact cooked pink throughout -perfect; and it was fairly tasty. I had mine built on a bacon pretzel bun - which really just seemed to be like a pretzel bun, so not sure there was anything fancy there...but it was pretty darn good. But not soo good that it was worth the 25min (if not longer) wait to get to me. But the place was busy - so I mean, I can forgive, had anyone ever came to check on us or offer to grab us another beer...
For dessert I had the candied bacon brownie a la mode. And I probably could have skipped that. brownie wasn't warm and sorta dry. also $8.95.
Their bar was AMAZING tho. Any beer you could possibly imagine...they had them all lined up on tap! Absolutely great. So I would definitely come back to chill out and have a beer and play some trivia again. We apparently happened to show up on a trivia night, and you can never go wrong with that.
Over-all tho, I'd say this burger was just ok. You're really coming here for the concept of "BACON EVERYTHING!" But I think I can say I've definitely had better burgers than the one here. But the food definitely isn't bad. And it's a whole build it yourself type deal, so it's really whatever you make it.
Fun concept. Great beer. And even tho I did a lot of waiting - the staff overall really was very friendly
Came to try a bite of the 'Merica Burger (100% bacon burger available only in July). Â
Verdict: freedom tastes a little dry. Â
Service is kind of spotty - too many waiters and waitresses floating around without any real sense of direction. Â If I sit down at a table and there's nothing in front of me after 10 minutes, is it too much to expect somebody to offer me a menu? Â A drink? Â A glance? Â
Beer selection isn't bad and at least there's plenty of parking. Â Looks like this place can get kind of crowded in the evenings so plan to be waiting outside for awhile if you've got a large dinner party!
Worst service I've ever experienced in my life. Â Waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for my 50/50 burger. Â The egg was pretty much raw and not even cooked. Â Plus, after all that time waiting, they screwed up one of our orders. Â Instead of comp'ing a meal or giving us a decent discount for the inconvenience they took about $9 off a $110 tab. Oh, and they gave us some gift certificates - like someone woudl want to come back after that experience. Â
The food was ok - the Burger is way overpriced for how it tastes. Â Hodad's blows this place out of the water. Â I'd give the food a 3 - but it's certainly not worth the wait or the price. Â $10 for a 1/3 lb burder without any fries? Â Criminal.
Bacon heaven! Â I had no idea that their signature burger was half bacon, half beef (I wasn't super imaginative with the implications of the name "Slater's 50/50" evidently), but I did know from the San Diego Union-Tribune prior to a 4th of July trip to Southern California from NorCal that they were offering a burger of the month consisting entirely of bacon :)
My bacon-phile boyfriend (Jerico P) and I salivated over the opportunity, while I secretly prepared myself for the burger to not live up to my expectations. Â I was pleasantly proven wrong!
The bacon burger (the 'Merica) came on a bacon pretzel bread (soft and lovely) with bacon aioli, bacon cheddar, and an over easy egg.  It was positively insane.  One of the happiest artery clogging experiences of my existence  I am certain my partner felt the same as his facial expressions (and lack of sound until we irreverently polished off the delicious meal).  We accompanied the delicious burger with fried jalapenos with a cool creamy sauce and bacon fries.  The beer menu is extensive, and the service was friendly, prompt, and fun.
Came here on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Wait time was about 30 mins., but bar seating had no wait. I was super hungry, so we sat at the bar.
I was told that it was better to create your own burger than to choose one of their specialty burgers. Ordered a medium 50/50 burger on honey wheat, w/garlic aioli sauce, pepper jack cheese, avocado smash, grilled onions, jalapenos, greens, & sun dried tomatoes. Got my burger and it was well done & missing the sun dried tomatoes..
Bartender was friendly & my burger was good even though they made it wrong. I would go back here, but not anytime soon. Maybe next year..
Wish I liked this place. I LOVE Â Burger Bars, like the Counter and 25 Degrees!
The first time I went when they first opened. When my date and I were told the burgers were 50% bacon & 50% beef, we both looked at each other, said no thank you, and walked out.
I gave it another try on a cheat-the-healthy-lifestyle day, and got a very dry lamb burger. Have it another try tonight. Although the Vampire(mega garlic!) Dip was tasty, my B B B Burger will have me drinking a couple of gallons if water the next few days.... Â They seem to have followed McDonalds recipe of salt and more salty to give flavor! Ugh.
I know a Bacon Bacon Bacon Burger will be salty, but that's all I could taste?
And what I be paying for allllll night long.
Double Ugh.
If you are ever in the San Diego area, you HAVE to go to Slaters. Great burgers and 100+ beers on tap! Such a cool site to see, and delicious burgers!!
We came on a Friday night, so of course it was extremely busy. Upon check it, we were told the wait would be anywhere between 25-30 minutes, and that they would shoot us a text when the table was ready. (HOW COOL!) I think it's great because then you can go shopping around the area or just run an errand and come back if need be instead of worrying how far you can go with a buzzer. Once I gave her my number I received a text right away with a link that also lets me check how many people are still ahead of me and the estimated wait time. WAY COOL!
Once it was our turn, we got a seat inside and they were packed!!! We were still greeted and seated promptly and our waitress helped us almost right away. They offer a variety of typical appetizers such as french fries, onion rings, fried mac and cheese, and if you cannot decide which one you want, you can make it a 2, 3, or even 4 appetizer combo and get a taste of each appetizer for a reduced price! (AWESOME!) We ended up ordering the french fries and onion rings with their famous bacon ketchup. (MMMMM)
So, the reason for the 50/50 in Slater's is because it's 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. BACON LOVERS UNITE! If you love bacon, this is definitely the place for you. Aside from their specialty burgers, (you can also design your own if you like), there are sandwiches, salads, specialty plates, mac and cheese, the menu is endless and really good!
My hubby ended up making his own burger, which he said is one of the best burgers he'd ever had, and I could not resist ordering the Baked Potato Mac and Cheese. It came with mashed potatoes, sharp cheddar cheese, chopped thick cut bacon, green onions and sour cream with a parmesan-panko crust. WHO COULD POSSIBLY resist that?! It was delectable, delicious, savory, but definitely very rich, so I was only able to finish half. Rest assured, I took it to go and finished it later!!
The ONLY reason why I had to deduct a star was because of the appetizers. The fries and onion rings were really soggy and pretty simple. Nothing "over the top" for such an "over the top" (in a good way) kind of place. The food is spectacular though and I would definitely return once I'm in the area. Icing on the cake is once we left the restaurant, I got a "thanks for visiting us" text, along with a reminder to review them on Yelp. Rest assured, it was my pleasure to review such a delicious place on Yelp!
5 Stars for their create your own style burgers
5 Stars for their Vampire Dip
5 Stars for the ambiance and service
5 Stars for price. Â
5 Stars for being in America's finest city.
I've always been a fan of Slater's ever since I first tried them out in Anaheim Hills. Â I've been to the OC location at least 5 times and tried their Vampire Dip, Fried Mac, 50/50, Chicken, Turkey, and even a few "Create My Own" Burgers. Â I'm a fan of all, but it's their Vampire Dip that I continue to have dreams about. Â This is so good, created with garlic, and is the perfect appetizer while you wait for your burger. My only issue with their Vampire Dip is the lack of chips. Â Wish there was more. Â For my main meal, I ended up creating my own. Â I mixed a 1 pound of chicken breast, turkey bacon, Vampire Dip, and pepper jack. The chicken breast was juicy and tender, while the pepper jack complimented the Vampire Dip perfectly. With the bun and toppings, this had to be over 1 1/2 lbs of food and I deMELished it.
We came here 9 deep and all were starving, especially the elites that just finished SD's Tri. Â Almost every combination was ordered, tried, and attempted. Â Our table had fried pickles, the Vampire Dip, salad, a Frito's 50/50, and chicken/pancakes. Â Terri had the chicken and pancakes. Â This is one big feast with all three meals in one. Â Yes...this was basically breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I assumed it was good because she almost killed it.
This place gets extremely busy. Â For one, it's the location. Close to Old Town, Downtown, Sea World, and Rosecrans. Â So, expect at least a 30 minute wait to be seated. Get past the wait and you'll be treated with some of the best burger's ever. Â
WISH LIST: Â We need one in Las Vegas. Â
PS: Â This Slater's has outside seating. Â Just be prepared for the loud planes every 15 minutes.
This Slater's 50/50 sits sort of hidden in Point Loma. We came here for the first time on a Saturday night in the summer, pretty late for dinner & there was about a 35 minute wait. They take your name & phone number down on their iPads to send you a text when your table is ready. Pretty legit.
The bar had over 100+ beer options.
Our party of 4 ordered the 6 appetizer combo (you can mix & match combos or try all the appetizers) & ended up getting the Fried Bacon Mac N' Cheese Balls (YUMMMMMM), Sweet Potato Fries (always a winner) & the Onion Rings (oily but delicious).
TRY THE PUMPKIN DIP that comes with the fries, it's amazing. SO good.
Of course I had to order their famous 50/50 (50% beef & 50% pork) cooked medium (rarest they can cook it due to the pork. I usually like my burgers moo'ing) & it was surprisingly pretty juicy still. The bun was ginormous but the patty was quite thick as well. Prices weren't too horrible for a more upscale burger joint.
Just a heads up: Burgers don't come with fries, just a pickle.
I'll probably be back to try their milkshakes & other burger options.
Slaters is known for their infusion of bacon into the burger patty during the Burger revolution of 2010-11, but something I most people don't realize is they have a ton of beers, as in dozens and dozens. Sometimes I come here just to drink (less likely not with Stone now open).
Traveller tip: If you are in San Diego on a layover and want a really good burger this and Burger Lounge are your best bets, a short cab ride to either. Don't get me wrong I love In N Out and so do many visitors, but it's still fast food. And the quality options of Slaters and Lounge should leave no doubt in my suggestion.
They do trivia night which can be fun with a pubbish atmosphere.
Bathrooms have a very slick tile for those cycling in cleats.
For the uninitiated I'd go with their standard burgers because the amount of options in the build your own may fluster your tastebuds.
I'd suggest you get their chili on the side and I really like their Vampire sauce. Fried mac & cheese balls are amazing, high quality. Cooked, baked, balled then battered for frying. Forget the bacon infused ketchup, use the bacon salt.
Price is actually pretty good for the value of it all as they use an extremely high quality beef, though not grass fed like Lounge.
A few things to note. There isn't really a lot of waiting area, but they can usually get you seated very quickly. The service is good, but on my last trip it was superb and I wish I caught the two gals names.
1/3 is a good sized patty, 2/3 if you have an appetite and full pound is a monster not to be trifled with, especially once you start adding fried eggs, frito's, chili or whatever else you want. Their sweet potato fries are excellent, but I find their regular fries a little bland (not under seasoned, but not a kick ass blend).
I like my steaks rare as they will cook it, my burgers as rare as they will make it also, but the 50/50 or full bacon patty can not be cooked that rare(correction from my previous review), but they will do medium rare. I find a regular beef patty with thick cut bacon and some bacon salt is way more intense bacon and flavor than the 50/50 or full bacon patty.
Buns now a days to keep up with the overgrown burger patty has become robust and must be able to widthstand burger juices, condiments and sauces. I found that if you eat quickly they do not fall apart, but any time wasted allows it to get soaked and fall apart. Everyone once in a while you'll get a loaf cut strange (imagine eating your burger from a bread bowl.
Great burgers but better than anything was the service was amazing.  Marissa was the best server I have encountered in a long time.  She gave great recommendations and upsets without being pushy.  Everything came out within a reasonable time and I everything came out correctly.  I had the Flamin Hot and my boyfriend had the BBB Bacon Burger.  Both were exceptional.  I really like hot and the Flamin Hot meet my expectations.  It is just on the border of a little too hot so be warned.  Great flavor though!.  We also ordered the deep fried pickles and jalapeños.  The pickles with the mustard sauce was great.  the jalapeños were good but not as good as the pickles.
You are also able to build your own burger with a menu paper. Â Great concept and great way to do it. Â Makes it more fun than ordering through the waiter/waitress and less chance of getting it wrong.
We sat in their outside new bar area and the manager (I believe) came over to us to tell us it was new and to thank us for using it and that we was glad it was able to fit our party (19 people). Â He was very nice and personable. Â Also a great selection of beers!
Only downside, but not the restaurant's fault was that is it right in the flight path and every 5 minutes or so a plane takes off and you have to stop talking and wait until it passes.
This is a very good burger restaurant. It was great to be able to custom build your burger and have plenty of choices to choose from. I had the signature 50/50 burger with Gouda cheese (where else can you put this on a burger). I topped my burger with a fried egg and sautéed mushrooms. Then I chose to add the bacon flavored ketchup as my sauce.
As side dishes my wife and I split an order of the "3-pick" sweet potatoes, slater fries and beer battered onion rings. All were very impressive and were great side dishes to the burger. On top of this there was about 50+ beers to choose from.
We sat out on the patio, drank our happy hour beers for 3.5 and used their internet. Our server, Shannon, was nice and didn't pressure us, but still came by to check in on us.
I personally don't like bacon, so didnt wanna try anything on the menu. But I would come back for the happy hour, because overall it was pleasant.
THE highlight of my San Diego food adventures!
Slaters 50/50 is on the top of many burger aficionado's short list, and it is now on mine! I am VERY glad there isn't one here in Vegas, because I would eat here all the time!
The reason why this place is different, is due to their 50/50 burger patty, which is 21 Day Aged Beef and Bacon (50/50 ratio!). This alone is what sets them apart, and makes an unbelievably rich and juicy burger, with a huge amount of flavor! Â Haven't really had anything else like it...and you CAN taste the difference :)
But you have to try the Vampire Dip as well! Roasted Garlic, Cheese & Artichoke Dip...combined with the Garlic Aioli, it's enough to make any garlic lover jump for joy. Â Have them pour this all over your burger, and you won't need additional cheese to make it amazing!
The Fried Bacon Mac n' Cheese Balls with Tapatio Ranch and Slater's Fries with Bacon Ketchup were starters! Cheese Balls were great, with plenty of flavor and yummy bacon bits! The fries are seasoned well here....plenty good by themselves...but the bacon ketchup is perfect! Great combinations!
And last, but definitely not least, the Vanilla Milkshake with Oreo Cookies and Nutella! Sooooo good, we ate one with dinner, got one to-go, and still wanted to come back the next day just to eat the milkshake! Seriously, we planned on getting one to-go after eating lunch in Rancho Cucamonga, but that location opens July 1st! Damn lol!
I think I found a Must-Eat in San Diego and LA, every time we make the trip! Â The pics are making me drool :P
50% beef, 50% BACON = 100% delicious!
They were extremely busy when we left a number to let us know when our table's ready. Â About 40 minutes later, he got a text message - CHOW TIME!
We started off with fries with bacon ketchup and fried mac and cheese. Â The bacon ketchup was just as amazing as it sounds. Â No need to put salt on your fries, the ketchup is enough. Â The fried mac n cheese had a light breaded coating to it and it wasn't falling apart.
Before coming here, I already knew what my burger combination would be like and I'm glad I did my research first as the things you can put on your burger can be overwhelming - they have a lot! Â For my creation, I chose: 1/3lb medium 50/50 patty on white brioche with vampire dip, sauteed mushrooms and garlic aioli - it was perfect! Â It was intensely cheesey and garlicky. Â I also got a Nutella and Oreo milkshake for us to share - big mistake! Â It was absolutely delicious, I didn't want to share (but I had to). Â But we ordered a cup to-go so I was happy again. Â The consistency was a bit lumpy and unevenly blended but I didn't care. Â The flavor was just too amazing. Â Nutella + Oreo = sinfully delicious!
The boyfriend got The 50/50 which has a 50/50 patty (of course) on white brioche with sunny side up egg, pepperjack cheese, chipotle adobo mayo and avocado. Â I tried half of it and he took half of my burger. Â The 50/50 was super messy due to the egg and avocado. Â It was pretty good but I still liked my creation better so, I took half of my burger back!
The setting is absoluely casual. Â Kids everywhere.
I want my burger and Nutella and Oreo milkshake again!!!
I have been here twice now and I will likely be back eventually.
The first time I was with 2 friends and we all made custom burgers. Â The service was great. Â The food was great. Â The happy hour drink & food specials were great.
The second time again the food was great. Â There were no specials. Â And the service was slooooooooowwww. Â I did have some kind of bloody mary burger that was pretty fantastic and huge though.
There are a lot of burger places in San Diego but I'll go back.
Decided to take my wife, her daughter (and friend) there for a late lunch on Saturday. Â The wait was minimal (about 10 min) and we were seated inside
Got our beverages quickly and we ordered shortly after that (3 menu items and 1 custom burger)
I showed the waitress my Yelp coupon (10% off food with a beverage purchase) and the coupon says "valid anytime" Â Â ---- Â she then told me that they wont honor the coupon because it is an older yelp coupon. Â All they will give is $1.00 off the total bill (which they failed to do)
My bill came to $73.00. Â They may have save about $5 by not honoring the coupon, but they will lose a lot more than that as I will not be returning to eat there, and I will be telling anyone who is looking to take people out for beer and burgers to go somewhere else..... Â somewhere that doesn't try and screw over repeat customers
We had the honor of having Matt as our server and he informed us that we were his very first people for his shift for the night. Â As for customer services goes, he is exceptional. He made sure the Guinness Milkshake was made by the best (Sergio). When the Guinness Milkshake arrived, it was perfect as Matt promised.
We ordered the BBB Bacon with Avocado Mash without the bun as usual and of course was very consistent and tasty! Â Good job guys!!
Bacon Lovers Rejoice !!!
In town so I thought I would check out another Slater's location. Only been to the one in Lake Forest.
I ordered the 50/50 burger which is their most famous burger. 50% Beef and 50% Bacon is an awesome combination. You cannot go wrong with this burger. They also have an extensive a la carte menu where you can build just about any burger you want.
Be sure to order the Vampire Dip, so cheesy and so good with a little bit of spicy. I even put a little of the dip on my burger......OMG amazing !!!
Tons of micro-brew beer selections as well.
Worth the typically long wait !!!
Disclaimer: My cardiologist will not allow a 5th star. Â
This place takes the whole "bacon makes everything better" to a new level. Â Like I think I am having another heart attack from just writing this review.
To start off the place is seriously busy. Â We had to wait an hour plus for a table. Â The good thing about that is they have 111 beers on tap! Â I was able to wash down 3 different beers that I have never tried before we made our way to the table. Â I was with 3 other guys who ordered some beer battered fried pickles and fried mac and cheese for apps. Â The fried pickles came with a dipping mustard instead of the usual ranch. Â A nice change. Â
We got to our table and the waitress was super nice. I wish I could remember her name so I could give her a shot out but I'm on beer numero quatro at this point and had a lot of sun that day. Â We decided on getting 2 different styles of their mac and cheeses. Â 1 tasted like a baked potato and the other was jalepeno and bacon. Â It had a freaking Cheez-It crust! Interestingly tasty. Â For the entree, I submitted to peer pressure and got the BBB Burger. Â This is a 50 percent ground beef/50 percent ground bacon, with bacon american cheese, bacon thousand island dressing, 3 strips of thick bacon, a fried egg, all on a bacon pretzel bun. Â HOLY HEART ATTACKS BATMAN!!!!! Â Believe it or not it was really good despite it's gimmicky sound. Â The bun was great and the fried egg was a game changer in terms of taste. Â Delish! Â
I highly recommend giving this place a try at least once(maybe only once) despite the fact that you will eat 10,0000 calories worth of food in 1 setting. Â Bring a defibrillator and a friend who knows CPR then you'll be fine.
I had a burger craving. Â On a Saturday afternoon, Slater's 50/50 satisfied that craving.
I was meeting a friend for lunch and I came here expecting a 45 minute wait or worse but ended up only waiting about 10. Not too bad, we're off to a good start.
The hostess welcomed us and after an initial name mix up we were good to go. I was seated right away and our server was there to explain the menu and get us set up with any drinks that we wanted. Â I had to try the Peanut Butter & Jealousy so without any hesitation, I ordered it(well done because I'm paranoid). Â I should have ordered a beer but I didn't. Â They have tons of beers "on tap", actually, 111 to be exact (what I was quoted) so there were a couple that I really had to resist.
After a good 20+ minute wait the burgers arrived. Â My Peanut Butter & Jealousy was tasty and messy, a little on the drier side due to being well done (my fault) but it was still good. Â I've been meaning to try that burger for a long time so it was good to finally fulfill that craving...and then they introduce a new "extra hot" burger.... So maybe I'll have to come back just for that.
Aside from the somewhat long wait for the food to actually arrive after ordering, the food and service were great. Â The place is a little noisy but overall, not a bad place for burgers and hanging out with friends. Their beer list is huge so that's always a good thing. Â As far as burgers and beers go, there are too many options to choose from but you can always try get through them all anyway.
Appitizer fries, onion rings and fried pickles. the chipotle sauce was eh, the bbq sauce was eh... but that bacon ketchup!!!!! that was 100 percent amazing!!!
5050 burger on a pretzel bun made the guac fall from the sides making this a really messy thang, but I still fell in love at first bite!!! My gf ordered a flammin hot burger with the toppings of the peanut butter and jelly burger which complimented very well considering this was a 10 as far as spiciness! My mouth was on fiyaaa! The peanut n jelly helped calm that flam down a bit.
One thing I can complain about though is how you don't get any side with your burger... No fries?! You gotta order them seperate? But whyyy.
Mashed potato Mac n cheese was good, but not the kind of craving to go back for good.
Love love love the beer selection!
Green Flash 30th Street Pale Ale
Wells And Young Banana Bread
Rough Draft Belgian Vanilla Stout
Wells And Young WIN!!! Will def be trying some of their other selections as well.
A place like this will please the burger enthusiast and beer snob. It will please the heck out of a happy hour lover like myself. My wife and I were in a "dining out rut" of sorts and needed something new. Having heard numerous radio spots and a decent amount of hype over their burgers, we had to try it out.
We went on a Friday night. Here's a cliff's notes version of our experience:
- Was extremely busy when we went at 6PM, and our table for 2 was a 20-30 minute wait. Tables for larger parties were closer to the 40 minute to 1 hour wait. Â Huge line when we left the place at 8PM! But they will TEXT you when your table is ready
- The collection of beers is vast, with plenty of locals on tap.
- Happy Hour runs M-F 3-7PM so our apps were half off (about $2.50 ea) and a handful of beers were only $3.
- The burgers are about $10, but they don't include fries. Keep this in mind
I'm only deducting a star because it took a long long time to get our food. The Misses wondered aloud multiple times, "Where the heck is our food?" Â
Overall, I think it's a solid place. Lots of parking, tons of beers, reasonably priced. It would be a fun place to go see a game at some point too, given the litany of TVs there as well.
