Smarty Pants was where were we wrapped up a day at the track and evening of barhopping around Georgetown. Â As such, the particulars are a little hazy. Â But what I do recall was quite pleasant:
The bartender was sassy but friendly, bantering with anyone who entered her domain. Â The motorcycle motif sets the tone for the place, but doesn't seem to set a bar of any kind. Â It was dark, but not uncomfortably so, and while it was somewhat busy the volume was just right to hold a conversation without feeling like you had to speak over anyone. Â Our friend's ongoing exposition on why Paul McCartney is a rotten person continued just fine. Â We may have discussed Air Supply at some point.
Anyway, it was a fine way to cap an evening out with the boys, and I'm sure we'll wind up there again when another night out finds us back in Georgetown.
We are regulars at Smarty Pants and always enjoy something from the delicious brunch selection. Â We went in last Sunday and it was packed. Â We were a little concerned that it might take a while to get our order, but Josh, Skye and Patty were all phenomenal. Â They were amazingly quick and as always, our food was delicious.
If you go in and it is packed, have no fear as they will make magic happen and make every single table feel as if they are the only ones in the restaurant.
Kudos to these 3 and the kitchen staff for making it look so effortless :)
ps
Try one of the best Bloody Marys you will ever have.
It was my first time to try this place and I was not disappointed. Â They have happy hour drinks and food, though not a large selection. Â The happy hour food was tasty. Â I had the trio sandwiches (sliders): Chickenhawk, Ms. Piggy, and Troublemaker and some nachos.
It's a small place. Â The environment felt calm.
I'm giving it 4 stars because the glass door looked dirty.
The breakfast menu here, was... huge. I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, on recommendation from my friend sitting across from me. :p She ordered them with Chirizo, I had them with sausage. Our other companion had the Eggs in a Basket,... I think that is what they called it. Anyhow... The server said the biscuits are baking and would be another 15 mins.
Sure thing! We will wait for hot biscuits... IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
The decor was fun to look at, so... is this a biker bar or a biker themed bar? Oh... a SIDECAR biker themed bar. We asked about the name and our server said it was orignally called DareDevil, but they had to change the name. I think the name is great!!! When my friends told me we were coming here, I thought they were calling me a SMARTY PANTS.
All in all, good breakfast. The gravy is mushroom based, so be aware, it was good though!! Hashbrowns hot and tasty. Great service.
I plan on coming again for lunch, they have a ton of sandwiches I want to try!!!
2.5 stars. For what I'm about to say, they deserve LESS than the 2.5 stars given..
So my husband use to go to smarty pants for late night HH or whatnot with his buddies. He gets the same stuff everytime, pull pork sammich and potato salad. I'm unaware of the name fancy smancy name they may use but you get the point.. Pull pork sandwich.
Hubby would bring me an order of the sandwich and potato salad, so by the time I get it the meal is cold and needed to be reheated.
With that being said, the meal is DELICIOUS!!
BUT! The last couple of times we have found hair in the sandwich and potato salad. Two different occasions and its unacceptable.
Well, it was indeed a Monte Cristo but it wasn't up to my standards.
I hate to lead with that, but it's true.
I will say that the waitress was one of my favorites of all time, in just a few short minutes of servingtime, she was just kick ass enough to make me wish I'd be turning into a regular of that place.
The other food was plentiful and good, and for a 'down and dirty' breakfast, this is a great place to go in and get away from the kiddos and have some grownup drinks (those Bloody Marys looked a-frickin'-mazing) and sit amongst other cool adults.
ok - if you have a high tolerance for noise and slower service, this place will be one of your favorites!
Let me just say, the food has always been outstanding here - you get a good sandwich (or other) for a decent price....and its good! However, for me, it's almost always fairly busy and the acoustics are not favorable to a little peace!
This is a good joint - but I will generally pass if I am needing a quiet meal.
This place is good. Great place to start your vacation weekend, or go for some great food. Had a giant breakfast burrito that set me right for a great holiday weekend. Had a sip of the bloody mary which was as good as they get. Its been a few years since I have been here but look forward to the next time.
Review Source:I've been here for lunch or happy hour a few times with co-workers and have always had a good meal. Â The staff are friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. Â Prices are fair and I am always able to find close parking, despite the fact that it is in the ever-busy Georgetown area.
Last visit I had the Club Pants and I definitely recommend that highly. Â The avocado spread is delicious and the sandwich had plenty of meat. Â Nom! Â Another time I had the Turkey & Avocado and I would recommend that as well. Â
Wish they would give you more salsa when you choose the chips and salsa as your side - I loooove pico de gallo and their stuff is super, super good.
I went here last night with some friends after our initial plans fell through and I am so glad we wound up here.
It was a Saturday night and it wasn't overly crowded, but it was still busy so I knew the place at least had popularity amongst the locals.
I ordered a vodka redbull, hummus plate appetizer and turkey & avocado sandwich.
The vodka redbull was mixed perfect.
The hummus plate was beautiful, full of veggies, warm pita bread and the hummus was so flavorful.
Then came the champ of the night - the sandwich.
This was literally the best sandwich I have ever had. The bread was amazing, the avocado spread was delicious, the turkey was tender.
I have zero complaints about the meal.
Zero complaints about the service as well. Our server was the nicest woman in the world!
Love Smarty Pants! I want to come here every time I come up this way!
In my quest to find a perfect french dip, I happened upon Smarty Pants and decided to give their iteration a go. It was the sandwich special of the evening -- so how could  resist?
This "biker bar" is surprisingly cozy -- friendly and warm service, nice patrons, and hey! Patio seating with fire pits in the table. Cool. We sat inside, ordered a Manny's (we were in Georgetown, duh!) and waited for our specials.
The verdict? So damn close. My bread was nice and toasty, my au jus was actually rich and flavorful (with a delightful mystery herbal undertone), cheese was melted, and my roast beef warm. So my only complaint? My sandwich could have used more meat. MOAR! It was, sadly... more on the skimpy side of things, Â CW's chili con queso was tasty -- pre-bagged chips but with a lovely warming cheese dip full of beans, peppers, and other spices. I enjoyed it and stole many a slathered tortilla chip.
Good, simple food plus awesome service and accommodating quarters, and oh so close on that french dip. What's not to like?
Yeah for happy hour at Smarty Pants!! I finally went and was pleasantly surprised at their beer selection, prices, and food selection for cheap!! It's a must visit. I ordered a Pear Hard Cider, which I absolutely love and it was only $5!! Super price. I also ordered a small version of the lunch time chicken and cheese quesadilla. So delicious. I'm so glad that this place has such a variety for everyone. It's a must visit!
Review Source:It was lunch with my coworkers. We can either go down to South Center or go up to Georgetown. There are not a lot of options around the office. I thought my manager picked a nice area to have lunch because that's the area I may never go by myself. Yes, not quite ghetto, but it's very industrial.
Smarty Pants! I saw a lot of my Yelp fellows checked in there. I would never know they serve lunch. I just thought it's a bar where people drink and watch sports. Not sure how to categorize this bar, maybe a dive bar, maybe a biker bar?
I ordered a philly sandwich for my lunch. I really liked the grilled onions and green peppers. However, I feel the bread can be a little smaller so that I wouldn't feel there wasn't enough meat. Overall, I thought it's a good sandwich. I paid $12 with tips.
Our goal is to eat in Georgetown and try all the restaurants in the future. I am sure we will come back have different things on the menu.
I don't like to think of myself as a 'hater' but I do kind of hate brunch in general. Â Until, of course, last weekend, when I had brunch at Smarty Pants. Â
First impression, the employees were all super friendly (even let us in a few minutes early since we didn't realize it wasn't quite 9am yet). Â The music was awesome. Â The decor was cool. Â But it was the food that made me reconsider my lifelong hatred of brunch. Â
They have awesome vegetarian options, not just some crap wilty vegetable option because the chefs can't understand people who don't eat bacon. Â No, here there were almost too many vegetarian options, all sounding delicious and all far more exciting that standard brunch fare. Â Fake chorizo was super tasty in my mondo humongous fantastically delicious burrito. Â Ingredients were hot, fresh, flavorful, and generally all around amazing. Â The server was super attentive and kept our coffees full. Â
As much as I hate brunch, the only thing I hate more are people who take home brunch left overs. Â (Really? Â You can't scramble some eggs at home? Â You'd rather eat nasty day-old eggs? Â Gross.) Â Well, I took half my breakfast home. Â It was so big I couldn't possibly finish it (and for a super reasonable price, seriously, tons of stuff under $10) and it was so delicious, I couldn't dream of not having another bite the next day. Â
Smarty Pants ruined my hatred of brunch, crushed it, destroyed it. Â I love brunch! Â (But only at Smarty Pants)
You know you're lame and have gone touristy when you're in a biker bar and everyone coming in is 60 years old and wears turquoise capri pants and obviously drove in from Issaquah or something.
That aside, I was surprised at how good my meal was for eating bar food.
Nothing more remarkable to say here.
Yum yum yum. Have I told you lately how much I love sandwiches?
Atmosphere: Inside the bar is very dark and not the most comfortable. But outside, Â they have managed to achieve a nice lil patio! They used bamboo along gates to shield from the parking lots around the bar and it totally works. Great music, umbrellas for shade.
Service: Don't come here if you are in a hurry. The food doesn't always come out lightning fast and everything is very laid back. We come here after we do the major to-do's in the day.
Food: Delicious sandwiches! I generally get the grilled cheese & my hubby gets the Troublemaker. I get the chips and salsa as a side or the potato salad as a side. Everything we eat there, we love.
Great place to relax, have a couple beers, and enjoy some delicious grub.
I've read some of the bad reviews and it seems many of those are from first timers. Â But I've been going here for a few years now for lunch and it's still as good as my first time.
Big sandwiches and plenty of sides. The beer selection is not so big but interesting. Â At lunch, service is fast and they keep you moving, the counter is a good place to sit if you're watching the clock. Â The servers are pierced and full of tatt's which doesn't bother me a bit, so expect a lil 'tude with your lunch.
They have a bench for parties larger than 4 and covered outdoor seating as well - great for large parties and if you're not in a big hurry. The potato salad is homemade there and wonderful. Â A small open kitchen as well, watch your food get made to order. Â The best bet for lunch on the small Airport Rd foodie strip IMHO.
We went there for brunch, sat down at 12:04.
Was greeted right away (plus), I can give you a timeline because I was on a time crunch and literally looked at my watch every 5 minutes
12:04 sat down
12:06 ordered a drink
- Waiter walked away with drink order and gave us time to look over the menu.
12:21 came back with my drink and took our orders
- Drink was watered down, obviously it was sitting at the bar for awhile
40 (1:01) minutes passed and waiter did come back to check on us at all. Â I had to leave before my food even arrive, mind you, I ordered the Fast Breakfast (I think that's what it's called). It consists of 3 sunny-side up eggs, hash brown and toast (it doesn't take over 40 minutes to make).
My friends were still there at this time and finally at 1:15 ish, our food finally arrived and the my bread had MOLD on it.
Enough said. 1st and last time there. Never again.
As a loyal customer of Smarty Pants I would just like to say this place is awesome.
I like the staff they are awesome.
I love the taste of the troublemaker it is awesome.
I sometimes eat the happy hour tri sampler and it is awesome.
a few times before I was a regular I got really shitty service with messed up orders and I got kicked out once for my license being expired ---- but shit happens. And also paying 10 dollars for a sandwhich gets you a little down sometimes - but honestly it is impossible to recreate the trouble maker sauce....
I encourage you to go experience the awesomeness and to leave and never return if you do not like it.
So, I've recently started a new job and been working in Georgetown for several months now. Smarty Pants has quickly become my favorite lunch and afterwork drinking spot!
First off for lunch they sandwiches rock! So far I've had the pleasure of eating the: Troublemaker (my favorite), Chickenhawk (2nd favorite), Ms. Piggy, and the Chicago Italian Beef with Cheese. If I wasn't already at home I would soo be there right now for dinner! Sandwiches are toasted to perfection!
Afterwork, they have really good deals on their happy hour food and drink specials. The sandwich sampler plate is the bomb! As well as the nachos- OMG! Their kitchen staff rawks! One talented group of chefs in there.
Â
There are 3 large plasma tv's usually with some sort of motorcycle racing on. Great selection of microbrews- some local and some not. Only gripe, they have Coca-Cola in the can...
The bartenders are all knowledgeable with food, drink motorbikes, music scene and are friendly too.
If you're into Motorbikes then every Wed at 7pm is Bike Night and the street is packed with all sorts of motorcycles. It's actually a pretty amazing sight all the rare and unique bikes that people have in this city.
As with most stuff in Georgetown- parking is on the street and gets packed up on most nights. Drive around a bit- don't give up, you'll find something.
At some point in time, I thought I liked Georgetown, and it seemed people were moving there, always hanging out there, and raving about every little thing.
Oooh, my, how a few years changes things?
When one planned shenanigan proved disappointing and bizzare, Aaron and I came here to kill some time and have a few drinks before Will/Hillary/etc band(s) shows @ Mix.
It's just...so boring and nothing special, like all of Georgetown seems to be. As you type your hate-mail to me, please remember there is no possibility this area will *ever* be my neighborhood or weekly hang-out. I will never live close enough, so my view is of it as a *destination*, and on that scale, there are abandoned rest stops on I-90 with more pizazz.
The drinks were weak and the HH price isn't at all worth it on wells.
The nachos we shared weren't that great, it took *forever* to get them, and though she warned us of a hot plate because they were in an oven, they had the appearance/taste of microwave.
Whether economy, staff changing, not giving a shit, or what...Smarty Pants isn't what it once was, what I remembered or what it had potential to be.
It's likely I won't visit again for some time, and even then, it would be for a specific reason to justify the distance and likely mediocrity.
Wait, what? There are multiple veggie sandwiches on the menu? Â Wait, WHAT? You can sub field roast in for any meat on any sandwich? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?
I want the deluxe grilled cheese! Wait! I want the thing that has pesto on it! Wait, do I want the turkey avocado sandwich with field roast instead of turkey? Â Shit, there's a breakfast menu? Â
...Half an hour later, I went with my original choice of the deluxe grilled cheese. Â It had avocado spread, tomatoes and red onions and was probably the best grilled cheese I have ever had. Â I think indecent noises were coming out of me as I was eating it, but I can't remember because it was like a drug. Â
I've got to get the hell back here immediately and maybe just stay put for a few days so I can eat one of everything from their menu. Â They have a good beer selection too, so there really is no reason to ever leave!
Smarty Pants was a post-event after another exciting Yelp Elite event. After the Miracle Berries taste test, there was another tasty test yet to be ordered. I have been here few times before for their lunches and Sunday brunch. I cannot remember what I had ordered but I know their food is delicious.
The place was crowded before we had entered. We had taken almost half of the place by the wall. I think the place got louder when we sat, as chatty as we are the place was overwhelmed with conversations. I think we were still discussing about our fascination of Miracle Berries.
We had ordered the Philly Steak Sandwich. I think they should change the name to this sandwich to Smarty Pants Philly. It's nothing near a Philly sandwich, but it was delicious! The beef is sliced really thin and tender, with sauteed sweet onions, sauteed sweet green and red peppers. All over stuffed in a soft french roll. We had their potato salad. The potatoes were firm, tasted fresh and tasted just right. Also, came with dill pickle, oddly enough it was tasty and sweet (wait, I think the Miracle Berry was still in effect, this place is still an awesome place to eat).
I had looked at other orders and I remembered that I had their Reuben sandwich before. When I ordered it before I had heard they made their briskets there. It is served on a swirled rye bread and MOUNDS of meat piled on with sauerkraut, thousand island sauce and cheese. The aroma of the Reuben made my taste buds salivated in excitement. I was too full.
I must say that the gal who took our orders was prompt and I was amazed on how she had handle our large crowd and kept her cool. Also, if you come here on their Sunday brunch, you have to order their Bloody Mary...YUM! =)
A MUST GO! =)
Been through this joint several times before our many gigs in Georgetown, and the ambience for such an evening was always perfect: low lighting inside with loud music, great neighborhood beer on draft, and an enclosed patio area for agreeable weather days. Â The waitstaff have always been friendly and efficient in my experience.
I have had several of their sandy's and have not been dissatisfied with any of them. Â The Miss Piggy has lots of delicious grilled onion amidst the tasty pulled pork, the Turkey Avacado is creamy and flavorful, and most recently I tasted the Monte Cristo, a brunch item that is often screwed up by over-sweetening or deep-frying, but is done properly at Smarty Pants. Â A soft, house-baked French bread cozily envelops the "dinner" sandies.
We had a waitress so adorable today that we wanted to bottle her up and keep her in our pocket! Â We didn't though. Â Apparently that's considered "kidnapping," here in the States.
Q: Who likes beer and sandwiches?
A: I do. Oh, and bikers do. I know because they're hanging out at Smarty Pants where they supply both of these things.
I like Smarty Pants a whole lot for their delicious sandwiches and their beer, but I also like them for their- here's me making up a word- Badassness. The servers here are cool and attentive but they're not over the top and in your face. Each and every time I've been in, the guys and gals working the scene have been cool, collected and accommodating and it works for me.
The hummus plate here is substantial and their sandwiches are delicious. Lots of meat and veggie options to choose from. Oh, and the people at the 'Pants supply you with frosty pint glasses for your beer which I don't see too much of these days.
What's up with that?
Bars: Take a lesson from the 'Pants. Frosty Glasses. Sandwiches. Bikers. Good service... and you're golden.
It's still a 5 star joint!
I had brunch with my Seattle Yelper Auction prize, Alison R., on Sunday and it was another great time at Smarty Pants. I had some tasty food, great conversation and even bumped into a buddy of mine.
I've never had brunch here so I wasn't sure what to get. I love corned beef hash so when I saw it on the menu I decided to give it a try. The corned beef was delicious, though it was a bit heavy with garlic, which I had been warned about by my buddy's GF. The hash browns were nearly perfect, the eggs were cooked just as I had ordered them, the sourdough bread was warm and crisp and the meal even came with a side of fruit, some kind of melon, not sure what it was but it was tasty. I also had a Bloody Mary, Mmmm I love me some bloody mary and this one was nearly perfect.
This is the kind of place that I could spend all afternoon at. And we practically did. The outdoor patio with picnic tables, interesting art pieces, and metal rock from the speakers created the perfect setting for a lazy day in the semi-Seattle sun.
The food was mighty tasty too. I chowed down on the Troublemaker sandwich, which featured chicken, grilled onions, other goodies, and a spicy sauce. I also tried a bite of the Lil Brat - a nod to the Reuben. It was quite tasty as well. My only regret is that I ordered the chips and salsa as my side instead of the potato salad. The salsa wasn't memorable, and it came in a hard-to-scoop-out-of paper cup. I gave up after one chip and went back to focusing on my Troublemaker.
I'd love to come back to enjoy another afternoon of good friends, great drinks, and amazing food. I just need to make sure that I have nothing planned for the rest of the day!
The desire to get my first tattoo jumped 2 notches after having brunch here on the first gorgeous Sunday this year. The servers were affable with an edge.. maybe their parties from the night before dulled their edge.. in either case the service was good enough. We sat outdoors on the picnic tables along the wall and enjoyed the ambiance of cigarette smoke, colorful characters, Guns 'N Roses and freeway noise while munching on a combination of eggs benedict and Frito pie.
The eggs on my eggs benedict were over-cooked, didn't get the runny goodness all over my plate but the hollandaise drowned any badness that may have been there. I was so looking forward to the Frito pie but something about the chili; is it generic chili that all restaurants get? It's too sweet for my taste without that zing that I like but I have sated my curiousity.
I'll be back soon.
I'll be back with a cafe racer later.
I'll be back with a tattoo and my bike much, much later.
I'm in trouble.
I'm in trouble because ever since I had brunch here on Sunday all I can think about is the Troublemaker sandwich!  Chicken! Onions! Bacon! and a spiced perfectly sauce that made my taste buds sing and my heart skip a beat (though, that may have been because of  the bacon).  I can see how this place can fill up fast.  My group of six slipped in at a perfect time and the service was friendly and prompt. Â
All of the food at the table looked good and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Â It's the first time I can honestly say that I look forward to the trouble in my future.
Just your typical ass-kicking Georgetown gem.
Yes, I was starving when we went, but the menu had about 5 items that I wanted to try.
All the egg scrambles, several of the sandwiches and the veggie Frito pie. Oh, Frito Pie....droooooool.
I ended up choosing the Veggie Sub with Field Roast and it was great and had a bit of chips and homemade salsa on the side. SO ordered a salad, which was ridiculously large. The awesome waitress did tell her that you can do 1/2 orders of salads, which would still leave you with a lot of greens, etc.
We will return to conquer the rest of the menu!
*****UPDATE: I have deducted 2 stars and they ain't getting 'em back until their service improves. The past 2 times I've gone to SP I've noticed that they have a few new faces (where's Hester, dammit?). Last weekend we were there for over an hour before we got our food and we were served after numerous tables that had arrived well after us. The mimosas were totally weak and parts of my order have been forgotten on a pretty consistent basis. This makes me really sad, because I do have a deep, deep love for Smarty and I've missed maybe 2 Saturdays in the past 12 weeks (at least), it just seems different now that they changed staff.********
********NEW UPDATE - 9/2/07: They have completely redeemed themselves. I took a good friend of mine there this morning for a breakfast, but due to one of the cooks not showing up the OWNER had to cook for us. He had convinced all the other patrons to order from the lunch menu (apparently he's much better at cooking the non-breakfast stuff), but since I had my poor little heart set on a scramble, he made it happen! The service wasn't necessarily smooth, but they were all so helpful and friendly (and hot, dammit), and I kept in mind that they were short-staffed. The love affair has resumed!******
I am in love. The food, the service, the decor - EVERYTHING.
One of my best girlfriends owns Helle (a skin sanctuary right down the street) so we meet up every Saturday morning (yes, EVERY Saturday morning unless one of us is out of town) for brunch at Smarty Pants. We walk in the door, they confirm that would would like our usual mimosas (BTW, I think they usually just wave the OJ over the top of the champagne and call it good) and bring them over with a quickness. Apparently one of the chicks that work there has raided the music collection of my friends and I and has decided to play only songs that we like while we are there - creepy but incredibly enjoyable. Â Whether I'm dolled up or rollin' in wearing a hoody and baseball hat, the customer base ranges from preppy to hippie - I never feel out of place.
I've eaten brunch here, which has been perfectly delicious 99.9% of the time; I ate from the lunch menu recently and have personally confirmed the fact that everything at SP is AWESOME.
If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?
You are cordially invited to attend the nuptial ceremony on November 20th 2006 to share in the love of Michelle B. and the Hashbrowns at Smarty Pants.
Michelle fell in love with the Hashbrowns at Smarty Pants after an exhausting day of racing pinewood derby cars next door at The 9 Lb Hammer. Although Michelle was supposed to be giving her undivided attention to the corned beef hash on her plate, she just could not ignore her new found love for these Hashbrowns. And the rest, as they say, is history....
