So glad I found this gem (THANKS YELP!!)

Ordered the gyro deluxe (special on Mondays for $8)

Picked it up and.. huge portions.  I love it.  The gyro is just stacked.  Meat, cheese, tangy sauce, it's got it all.  And it was delicious.  I couldn't even finish it all and I am a big eater.  The fries were good too.

Would recommend this place.  The restaurant looked very clean inside and had a cozy / classy feel.  Can't wait to come back!

Solid four stars.  Maybe 5.  Go here!  They have daily specials too.

This is a great family restaurant.

Their omeletes, pancakes, sammiches, and souvlaki are all so very tasty, and the service is always great. This combined with very inexpensive prices make Spartans a winner!

Since moving to Burke, we've made Spartans a regular stop about every week and a half or so, and I don't see this trend ever stopping.

This was actually my first time there and Ive lived in the area for 10 years now.

As soon as you walk in, theres no one really there to greet you or seat you, its basically a seat yourself type of place. I believe there are two sections, one really packed and busy section and one not so packed empty section. So my friend and I sat on the empty side. So as we were sitting there looking at the menus that they leave on the tables for you, I noticed 10 minutes had past and no one came to take our order for drinks or just to say hi. Then walked in another party and sat to the table behind us and bam.. there was the server.

It didnt bother me too much until she went to greet them before she came to our table. I havnt been in the restaurant business for very long but Im sure first come first serve rule applies if there is no reservations involved. After taking the other persons order, she finally stepped over to our side and told us she will be right with us. UMMMM what does that mean?! 7 minutes later, she comes and asks only for our drink order. She doesnt even give us a chance to ask questions about the menu, and I did have some questions because Ive never had Greek before and Ive never been there. So after getting our waters, she comes back and takes our order.. for the lack of customer service, she was the nicest and sweetest.. she was very helpful and knew the menu very well.

I ordered the Gyro with fries, and I dont think it was the best Ive ever had. I actually was not able to eat it. The Ziki sauce was way tooo tangy and took away from the gyro itself.

I do want to give this place another go, because I have heard a lot of good things about it. But for now, they will only be getting a 3 stars from me.

Went here for dinner with my fiancee last night after reading the reviews and wanting to try it for sometime (since we moved in the area.) Boy was it worth it! We got there pretty late (9:20 and closing time is 10pm) but our waiter didn't seem fazed. He was polite, patient, efficient, checked on us and the food was delicious! Best gyro I've had outside of NYC!(that's a big deal) And my fiancee had the pork chop dinner special and loved it! The food is affordable and delicious and the service is welcoming and warm! Definitely my choice when I'm not up to making dinner O:)

This family-style restaurant is as close to a NY deli as we have in No Va.  Service is friendly, atmosphere casual and at times noisy.

The Reuben sandwich is one of the best in the DC area, open-faced with top-quality corned beef.  They also make a decent omelet.

Go here for breakfast and lunch.  Specials are always good.  Like the souvlaki and gyros. Tuna sandwich and salad always work on the specials The breakfast on weekends is good, especially the potatoes.  Always friendly with service as well.

It's not very good compared to similar restaurants. Too many menu items means everything aims for mediocrity. It's always busy, which is surprising, but they never have enough wait staff. And the staff acts like they hate being there.

This is hands-down, without a doubt one of the most consistently great restaurants I've had in my all-time fav.s since I first went 15 years ago. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner - Spartan's always serves a fresh meal complimented by prompt, polite service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Yes, I'm definitely a fan of Spartan's. We've been coming to this Burke institution for years.  It's a gathering place for couples, families and sports teams. The staff are very friendly and after a while they get to know you. Spartan's is typcial of the Northern Virignia "family restaurant" that is usually owned by a Greek family and offers Greek and Italian cuisine. But, burgers, sandwiches, and salads are also offered. Breakfast on the weekends.

Of late, I've been ordering the Tuna Salad Platter. This has two scoops of tuna and a scoop of coleslaw on a bed of salad greens with peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatos, and olives. I ask for Ranch Dressing.

My  other favorites are the Black Angus Cheeseburger (rivaling many gourmet burger restaurats), the open-faced Reuben, Gyro, and Greek Salad with Gyro Meat.  Once in a great while we'll come for breakfast on Saturday and I'll order the Western Omelet. One thing I have not tried here is the pizza. Typical Greek dishes like Mousaka are on the menu. Helpings are generous and the serever will bring a take home box for you.

Sometimes Spartan's is very crowded, other times not. At the same time of day, too. But, a table will usually turn over in a short amount of time.

The food here is pretty good, but not the greatest.  The service is alright.  It's got a mom & pop feel, which I really like to support.  The portions are pretty big and prices very affordable.  I think the average person could split the meals for two.  I did find cardboard wrapping in my spanakopita though, so I'm wondering if it was home-made or not.

It opens kinda late, and the people are really friendly, so check it out.

I love Spartans! I love the mix of cuisines (as listed by other reviewers). All of the pasta is delicious! My husband always gets the spaghetti and meatballs, I go back and forth between the manacotti and the baked ziti. Their salads are very simple, but are yummy and If I am feeling indulgent I'll get there french onion soup- MMM. The restaurant itself is quaint, tucked in a shopping center and is definitely a family restaurant. The pricing is great too!

I like their system of bus boys and food delivery person that speeds up the whole process.

Food is a good deal for the price.  I would recommend avoiding the busy times and go at the off times.

The menu is diverse - it has a little bit of everything.  The food is very good and well worth the price.  Also, the dining room has a lot of energy, but the service is miserably slow.  Our food came out in a reasonable time but it took 15 minutes to get our check after my wife took the kids to the car (we had already waited quite a long time). Hopefully this is an anomaly. We will give it another try because of the food.

One of our favorite local spots to eat. Tasty Greek food (specifically their greek salads and gyros) and delicious New York style pizza are some of our preferred dishes. Always a pleasant experience with a super-friendly staff. They also have daily deals!

Really average, standard Greek catch-all diner food. Honestly I'd rather take the drive out to the Metro 29 in Arlington, and I currently live within walking distance of Spartans. There's simply nothing positive I can report about this place as well as nothing especially negative. At least with the Metro 29 I can report pretty great French Toast. But Spartans has thus far wowed me with nothing. So what if the gyro salad was salty and greasy? It happens. Apparently here it happens almost every time, but again that's pretty normal for a Greek diner in this area so I can't hold it against them.

I've eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. I've done takeout. It's all the same: more average quality. Nothing I'd recommend or invite people to partake in eating, and not quite worth the price. I might order from here in a pinch (like last winter when my power was out but theirs was not), but I think I'll otherwise take my business elsewhere.

Very nice people though. Exceptionally friendly atmosphere. They are the kind of people I want to give my business to, so it's a shame the food's not quite worth the venture.

Went for breakfast last weekend!   It was still quiet and devoid of the weekend breakfast rush.   As always, service was excellent.   However, the food lacked the usual Spartans top quality.   For breakfast, I had the French Toast, and it was SO soggy, I honestly could not eat it.   My husband had an omlet that was so dry he could not eat it.   I also don't remember their coffee being so bland and icky.    Surprise to receive this bad quality for Spartan's breakfast since they always excel in other foods.   Needless to say, we won't be dining there for breakfast.

Good quality food with low prices and a no frills atmosphere. Need I say more?

It's totally a family restaurant.  My late dad used to eat here ALL the time, it was his style of food.  It's a great place to bring my toddler son because it's noisy and there are plenty of people and things for him to look at to occupy his time.

Gyro platter was pretty darn good.  I find it funny it's really a mix of Greek and Italian style food.  I enjoyed the Italian food more than the Greek items.  Nothing totally spectacular, but again, it's a family restaurant mostly filled with kids, the older crowd, and the Burke Volunteer Fire Department.

    Pros

    Food is amazingly good
They serve gyros and lots of other cool stuff
    Service is really friendly

    Cons
When you walk in you have to seat yourself. It takes a while before they get to you.

Ah, my first Burke review since moving here.  The fact that I've been here more than any other restaurant in Burke says a lot.  They do the "family restaurant" thing really well - a wide variety of food types for any meal, good service, a good location.

They have lots of different sandwiches and subs, lots of Italian dishes, and seafood too.  The gyros are one of the best things here.  The burgers are really good too.

My complaints are typical of family restaurants.  Everything is decent but nothing on the menu is awesome.  One other complaint.  I got a "patty melt" the last time I was here.  I put it in quotes because what they served me is not a patty melt, it was a burger on rye with American cheese, no onions.  That's not a patty melt, that's a cheeseburger on rye bread.

So we decided to try this restaurant when the other restaurant we planned to eat at had closed for a power outage.  Food was decent.  Lots of comfort food, sandwhiches, gyros and an Italian menu.

Food was decent.  Service pretty much sucked.  The servers were more interested in leaning against a wall talking to each rather than making sure their customers were taken care of.

Decent kids menu, but kinda expensive for the kids meals!

Have to be in Burke a few nights a week to visit my Dad and after 8:45; this town's dining areas basically shut down.  Limited choices the past couple weeks, until my Mom and I found this place...which closes at 10pm on weekdays.
Came in at 9pm last night and found this place clean and welcoming. We ordered the lentil soup to start, which was the soup of the day...pretty good.  One of the specials on the board was the pastitcio(sp?) greek style beef pasta with bechemel sauce.  It came with a side of pre-frozen veggies...the dish itself was ok.  The Greek salad as a started was...ok...definitiely not what we expected...it had iceberg lettuce, one slice of green pepper, one olive, and one slice of onion with a creamy dressing...not bad...just not expected...
    Service was friendly.
For Burke....very good; for other areas in NOVA...meh...

Spartan's is a Burke institution! My kids always pick it for dinner on their birthdays, it's where we all meet to catch-up for lunch, where the swim team has pancakes and gyros after meets . . .it's the perfect neighborhood restaurant.  Best things on the menu are the gyros, the lemon chicken soup (on Tuesday and Sundays), the BLTs, the pastisto, and the lasagna. They have a pretty decent kids meal & they're open to menu substitutions.

Minus one star because it's only open for breakfast on weekends and there are only a few tables big enough for a group larger than 4.

I really want to like this place. This is boyfriend's go-to for brunch every Saturday, so I felt pretty honored that he was sharing his spot with me.

Obviously every one else knows about Spartan's, because it was PACKED! we had to wait a few extra seconds for a booth to open because it was so packed. There were young and old people there, drinking wine, laughing and talking -- a nice mix of folks.

Boyfriend and I sat at a booth and our waitress came over awhile later (I didn't mind because the place was pretty jumpin'). She finally got to us and hurriedly took our drink order. I asked for lemonade and boyfriend got his usual unsweetened iced tea.

And this, folks, is where we go downhill. Our server came back with our drinks, She gave me pink lemonade. I asked for lemonade. Of course, she ran away before I could correct her. Whatever. I was thirsty. It was liquid.

The pink lemonade was absolutely horrid. It was made from some sort of drink mix, perhaps, and there was too much mix and not enough water. I asked for a glass of water so that I could cut the pink lemonade with it. It got a little better.

My biggest issue was that our server was rude. We were ordering food and I was asking for the steak and cheese sub, deluxe (comes with fries, and slaw). I asked her if I could get something besides coleslaw and she answered, with a sigh "No." I'm sorry, did I annoy you?!?!? And then I mentioned that I wanted provolone on my sub and she was like, "That already comes on there." sounding more annoyed than before. I told boyfriend that she had one more time to be nasty to me and I was going to go get a manager of some sort or change servers. Luckily, that didn't happen.

The food was decent. I had my steak and cheese and fries. Boyfriend had some huge burger with more stuff on it than I think I consume in a day. He loved his food. Mine was ok.

The service really killed it for me. Fine, its busy, but rudeness is NEVER ok.

Simply put, Spartan's Family Restaurant is a darn good place too eat.

I've never once been dissatisfied (either with a "to-go" order or sit down).  The quality is consistent, as well as the quantity is LARGE.  Something to be aware of when ordering - an appetizer, entree, and desert is way to filling for the petite or picky eater.  After reading through some of the reviews, I apparently now have to make another visit to try their Greek potatoes as well :)

The gyro's are very good (just not my personal preference), as is the pasta (I believe it was the baked ziti I had).  The pasta wasn't phenomenal, and a little on the bland side, but still pretty good.  Definitely reminded me of mom's home cookin'.

It can be noisy, but I've never found the level of noise to be terribly unpleasant.  As far as seating goes, there has always been a booth available to take a seat in (booth preference before table always).

I've never had the pizza here, but every time I've gone there has always been at least two families with a pie and other eats.

I had the Pastsisto, it's uses a homemade cheese to bake what American's would call hambuger mac and cheese pie but it's rich in flavor and better than the name.  I had the soup, homemade and delicious minestrone, I could have just had a giant bowl of that! Dolmadas, grapes leaves, so yummy - just enough vinegar tang.  For

The only thing is the .... service, maybe I interupted break time?  Not great today.

I probably eat here once a week. the cuisine is sort of Greek Lite. I used to ask the manager when they'd add some authentic Greek items to the menu, but have given that up. So I take it for what it is. This is a neighborhood diner with some Greek-like items. You'll get a better gyro at any halal cart in New York, but we're not in New York. You'll get a better Greek salad, but not around here.

taken as a neighborhood diner, and eating diner food, then you get something that will meet expectations. The meat loaf is fine. The burgers are also fine. Don't order the Reuben, it's the worst I've had anywhere in the civilized world, including in the outskirts of Moscow. Breakfast is good, but it's better and cheaper at Anita's - a sorta Mexican place a few blocks away.

So as a diner, it's OK. As a Greek place, it's not very greek. but the food is reliable, if you stick with the specials, it's not expensive. And there is one thing I should mention. The soup. It's seriously good. Whatever their soup special is, order it.

First off... I have taken pictures of the outside and the entire breakfast and full menus so that you have something to go on. I couldn't decide for the longest time to make the drive out because I didn't know what they had, so for those of you in my prior shoes, take a look.

My fiance and I got here at about 11:30 on Sunday for brunch, only to find the entire town must have been there. First sign of good foods... the cops strolling in like they are regulars ;) Shortly after we got there the place started to get full quickly. I loved the ambiance and the food as they were very "homey" not in the ghetto way, but in the grandma way.

I ordered the Gyro deluxe with fries and my fiance got the Belgian waffle with sausage with home fries and a coffee. Total came to $22, not bad for there was enough food to feed a family or a starving American couple.
The Gyro was good, well seasoned and the feta rounded it off, but I had to ask for more teziki sauce as it was dry. With it, man was it good. I gotta agree the fries were damn good, nice and crisp with enough potato in the middle to make it a real french fry rather than crisp cardboard.
The Belgian waffle was damn good too; crisp outside and creamy inside. My fiancee doesn't like the typical sausage but she really liked this one. Home fries were nothing special, but still good. Needless to say, we have half our meal sitting in the fridge now ;)

I love the friendly staff, the good prices, and of course, the great food. The pizza looked good, I want to try that the next time. I feel like I finally found a diner that compares to the ones I grew up near in NJ.

I grew up eating at a neighborhood Greek diner 3 or 4 times a week because my elderly babysitter back in the day sucked at cooking.  So every now and then, I get the hankering for the food and atmosphere of a Greek style diner.  This place fits the bill.

I went with a chicken salad sandwich platter, which included coleslaw and fries.  The chicken salad was good and wasn't overdone with mayo.  The coleslaw had a nice mild flavor and wasn't too wet.  The fries were excellent, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.  Altogether, seven bucks and some change.

Service was pretty good.  I assume the guy working at the register was the owner and he seemed to know every one of his customers.  The place was pretty busy with a good mix of people (teenagers and old folks).  Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a good neighborhood place.

This is the worst place I have been in the Burke area. I really don't understand the appeal. The atmosphere is boring and bland, just like the overpriced food. I was shocked to see most of the entrees were above 10 dollars. They call it "Greek" food, but they only offer the basics and even those are not cooked well.
Oh, and when I ordered a "Greek" salad, it came with RANCH dressing. You cannot put olives on a house salad and call it greek. It doesn't work that way. When I asked the waitress if she'd brought the wrong order, she was rude about it and I had to practically beg to get a salad with Italian dressing (because they don't have Greek salad dressing).
This is the Denny's of Greek food and cost me as much as a sushi night. Never again.

    Two words: EAT HERE.

Spartans is a no-nonsense,  family -style Mediterranean restaurant. In short, their gyros made all my wildest dreams come true. I've gotten gyros from other places in the Northern Va area but nothing is as juicy and tasty as the gyros I had here. The tzatziki sauce isn't overwhelming, rather, it teeters on the lighter side and is a more complimentary taste in this dish; not one that takes the spotlight. The pita bread is always light and fluffy. I've noticed that the lamb/ gyro meat is cut a bit thinner and in longer strips than what is the norm, but juiciness is not lost here! I usually order the gyros open-faced with no tomatos or onions (maximum gyro meat action) and with their fresh cut fries. Side note: you should come thirsty because there are free refills on almost all of the drinks (except fresh squeezed juices and sadly, beer and wine).

Not a big gyro fan? Try their fresh-made pizzas, sandwiches or pasta dishes-- they're all just as delectable.

The restaurant is spacious, clean and unpretentious. What's especially admirable about Spartan's is that they don't have a million odd nick nacks staplegunned to the walls like most family restaurants; the design is simple and tasteful. It's seat yourself and the service is snappy and with smile.

You won't break the bank going here either-- most entrees tend to be around $12 or less-- so there's definitely more Greek for the buck at Spartan's.

Just for the record, I really believe yelp should allow for half a star, because I would really be giving Spartans 4.5 stars.  Spartans is unequivocally the Amphora (restaurant in Vienna) of Burke.  I say this because not only do you get fast service but also hearty servings of food including their ever popular fresh cut french fries.  Among other similarities it shares with Amphora is that they are both Greek owned and attract the local police better than any Dunkin Donuts can!

Now the reason I love this place is their gyro platter which comes with a large side of fries and if you order ice tea, they give you a whole pitcher of it; you can't beat that.  On a more personal note, I used to come here years ago when I was in my early 20's and needed a place to sop up the alcohol from the previous evening of debauchery; maybe not the original intention of the owners, but just another reason to eat here!

Location: In a strip mall in the center of Burke that features a pet store next door to Spartan's, so you can take the kids to peruse (abuse?) the puppies and kittens next door after lunch.

Atmosphere: This is a simple restaurant with seating that looks akin to a high-end high-school cafeteria. And if you want to feel safe, there's nowhere better. This restaurant is a favorite lunch spot of the police and highway patrol.

Food Quality: The food here is excellent Greek fare. Try the gyros, souvlaki, and Greek salads. The fries are fried to order, so they come out piping out and delicious.

Value: Lunch for 2 for under $20.

Service: Great service. The waiters and waitresses here will get to know you, and when you come without certain family members, they'll say sweet things, like, "Where's your Momma?"

This place has been an old staple of mine for years and years!  Ever since I was old enough to start going out to restaurants independent of my family unit, I was going to Spartan's Family Restaurant.  The food here is excellent, and it's all in the familiy-- servers are friendly and patient, there are crayons and paper placemats so you (or children) can draw while you wait for the food to come   It can get pretty packed on weekend nights, and I'm pretty sure they don't take reservations unless you are a soccer party or something.
Favorite Spartan's Dish:  Hot Tuna Pita Delux and the Tsaziki (with xtra pita bread!)
