Great old-school style bowling alley. It's clean, it's well-maintained, the prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.
I came with my dad and brother for some family fun times. We bowled two games and were pleasantly surprised to find out they were $3 each per person instead of the advertised $5 on weekends (fall special!). Â It's $3.50 for shoes.
I'm a terrible bowler, but I enjoy it, and this is the sort of place I enjoy doing it in. The equipment is not new (the between-frame animations were from 1995) but it's clearly well-kept and doesn't look busted or run down at all.
We didn't have any food or anything to drink, but I did peer at the bar menu; no craft beer here, but some decent drink specials. Typical fried food to eat in that regard.
For Father's Day, we took Dave's Dad bowling here, and had a great time!
The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The drinks were reasonable, as were the shoe rentals and game prices. What I really liked was that the music wasn't blaring, so we were able to have a conversation without shouting. Plus, this is one of the few bowling alleys in the area that are open on Sundays.
Looking forward to coming back for more family fun in the future.
Great place for bowling league! Â We have been going there for 4 years, every other Sunday. Great times, great prices. Food is OK, pizza is actually pretty good in my opinion. Â The beer tubes are great for the bowling team. MY ONLY COMPLAINT...the shots are watered down. They taste like there is water in them! Is management trying to save a few bucks?! You decide, but I know when a shot doesn't taste right. This place has always been like that. Overall though, great place. Still gets 4 stars.
Review Source:Great place to come when you just want to bowl, hang out with friends, and have fun. Prices are decent, alley and bathroom are clean, very friendly staff.
Con: the rental shoes are pretty worn, but it's probably a better investment to buy your own anyway (they pay for themselves super fast considering rental prices).
Had my son's birthday party here a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed. Â A few weeks ago came back for his friend's birthday party and let's say not a whole lot was changed. Â Took 20+ minutes to get all the bowling shoes. Â Then when it was time to serve food, some kids didn't get theirs until the others were finished. Â
At the end of the day the kids had lots of fun, which is what really mattered. Â Still leaves lots of room for improvement.
Wow-wow-wee-waa! This place has made some great changes in the last few years!
A little nerdy, lesser known fact about me: I bowl. Competitively.
I bowled on a Saturday morning league here in my youth while my regular league was on hiatus. When I was in high school, we competed here regularly against Hinsdale Central, as this was their home lanes. Now, I'm back and bowling on a Monday night ladies league!
In my youth, this place was pretty dumpy. Staff never really knew what was going on or how to fix things nor were they particularly friendly. Lanes were never oiled, the smell of smoke had settled in from years of use before the law went into effect, and it was not some place I chose to bowl regularly.
I went back for the first time in probably 5 years to start my league. This place has made a TOTAL 180. First of all, the lanes are brand stinking new. They look great and they are regularly oiled. The backdrop is see through, allowing you to watch the pinsetters do their business. They got brunswick brand scorekeepers and graphics. They took away the ceiling and it has exposed wood which I think looks stellar. Apparently, they're having a pro-shop open up within the next few weeks, too!
Only thing keeping me from 5 stars is that the staff seem to have not changed too much from the past. They were definitely more friendly, but still have a few kinks to work out before I throw a 5 star their way. In terms of food service, I had to wait over 5 minutes to get a pepsi that cost me $2. Might not seem too bad, but if you bowl on a league, you know how much this can throw everyone off. The new foodservice area is located away from the front desk so no one can see customers until a line is forming. In terms of service, I seemed to be the expert when there was a problem and had to help staff do a couple of things on the screens. No big though, those things can be tricky, and the majority of the kids behind the counter looked like they were in high school.
other then the fact that there's a young-ish crowd here i like this place, (but hey, what else are 15 year old kids supposed to do on a saturday night?) it's my second favorite bowling alley in the area. my friends took me here for my birthday and we had a blast. the bartender's are nice and the drinks are reasonably priced and *whispers* they were incredibly tolerant of our misbehaving shenanigans. There's always been an open lane here when i go (which is more then i can say for my #1 bowling alley) and there's plenty of balls to go around. i hate it when i cant find the right balls, lol, but seriously, i have fat fingers and very skinny/weak arms, usually i cant find one with big enough holes that is still light enough. I'm gross. anyway as inappropriate as this review is this place IS ok for kids.
Review Source:oh suburbanite, you're close to my house and have dollar bowling on mondays. i anticipate going here will be much more fun now that i can get a pitcher of beer. i honestly am not a fan of bowling, but i go mostly to see my friends and i don't mind paying a dollar a game. it's usually packed, and usually way too loud, both of which are things that detract from my enjoyment of an establishment.
Review Source:Suburbanite Bowl is a nice bowling alley recently remolded and lots of lanes. Typical alley food Pizza, Burgers, Fries, etc. does have Electronic Scoring, Video Arcade w/ Air hockey, Pool Tables, Full Liquor bar, and staff is pretty helpful for the most part. .99 cent open bowling from 9pm to midnight on Mondays and just and overall good time if you like bowling.
Review Source:We're gonna sco-ooooooo-ore tonight!! Â Sorry could not resist the Grease 2 reference. Â It's a decent place, certainly a laid back run of the mill Bowling joint with the usual greasy food menu, ( I agree with Austin the pizza is pretty good) Â There's a bar, pool tables, and ancient video games. Â It's a fun place to hang out and catch up with friends, it even makes top 40 radio bearable. Â Also the fact that their beer bottles are bowling pins....Excellent
Review Source:Girlfriend and I went bowling at Suburbanite Bowl last night and had a great time. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. It wasn't overly crowded, and the prices were reasonable. Also, I'm not sure if it's a non-smoking environment, but I didn't smell any smoke the entire time we were there -- a definite plus! Drinks were very reasonably priced. Only downside ... some of the arcade games were messed up; however, the staff refunded the money we had put into the game without argument.
Review Source:for a dive bowling alley, this place is the best. Â plenty of room, tons of games, and great pizza. Â we have office outing there, and they have never failed to deliver a good time. Â the golden tee set up is one of the best, but true, the bar is very smokey (Jan 1st !)
also great for kids birthday parties.
It all depends how much you like bowling - b/c really that is the core of the experience. However, I would have to say this is a pretty popular bowling alley with a technological edge... it's own web site! Who would have thought. Anyway, it's popular with the teenagers so plays lots of hip-hop and popular music during midnight bowling. It also has a wide variety of beer, pool tables, video games & lots of smoke. So, some things never change~
