The food is fine. Â The service is fine. Â My problem is that I've had frequent uncomfortable experiences dealing with panhandlers, etc. both inside and just outside the door.
I don't enjoy giving unfavorable reviews... but this should be known about this location. Â The only reason I break down and go to it every so often is because it's so close to where I live.
Really deserves zero stars, but the staff are always nice and friendly.
1. Whatever happened to fresh bread? I've never had fresh bread here before. Instead the bread is stale, hard and flaky. ALL THE TIME. Why?
2. Here is the reason I will not be back. So one day I'm in line waiting to order my sandwich. I assume it's the owner, I see him wiping down the soda machine, no big deal. All of a sudden I see him scooping up ice that is piled up in the tray and dumping it back into the top of the machine to be REUSED!! WTF...that's a serious health and safety violation. Not to mention just plain nasty. Why would you do that?
3. The ice incident alone is reason enough not to eat there, but if the owner is that screwed up where he is reusing old ice...what else is he reusing/recycling? What other nasty shortcuts has he adopted?
Don't let this newly renovated Subway fool you.
I Had the steak and egg $5 footlong sub today... It was the worst thing that I've ever eaten. The "egg" was this yellow sponge almost tasteless and soggy made the whole thing wet... I don't recommend it at all. The employee barely put any veggies and steak ontop. Clearly, the reason why it was cheap is because nothing went on it... The wet egg thing was nasty. I don't know how they can call that wet sponge an " egg" so try something else... Don't order from the cheap $5 menu...
Review Source:There is nothing worse for your appetite than watching a manager publicly humiliate his workers. We stopped in here tonight for the first time. I guess it's sort of an unappetizing block..
When I'm standing in line in a busy fast food restaurant, the last thing I want to witness is a manager screaming at his employee during a rush because there's too much money in the cash register. That is not classy. Disrespectful to his employees and his customers.
The owner is always here for the late shift, which I happen to walk by his window everyday coming home from school/work.
Standard subway fare, this store honors the daily special, a student's dietary staple, next to ramen noodles.
Really nice owner, clean store and fast service. But then again, I come home late, and I'm just happy that there is a subway open and midnight.
This is the pro-Subway half of my Subway/Quiznos opinionations. I just trashed Quiznos about three minutes ago, so I'll lay off it for now.
Subway rocks. Always has. They've got good sandwiches, they keep up with the Joneses (toasting at Qiuznos, hippies at Jimmy Johns), and they're always less expensive. Now you can get any footlong sub for $5 on any day of the week. You can't get a meal that cheap anywhere else this side of the year 2000 except the greasyass dollar menu at a burger joint.
Minus one star because the sandwich artists in the city are slow as shit. And minus another because somehow, the smell of Subway, Â the restaurant, sticks to your coat longer than the smell of subway, the piss-soaked public transportation apparatus.
Do yourself a favor and don't go here. The manager only schedules ONE person to work during the lunch rush, so you have 15 people in line, and one person working. This is not a one time occurrence either. It happens all the time. The people who work here are always really nice, but I can't wait 20 mins. to get lunch when i only have a 30 min. lunch break.
Review Source:Being on a healthy eating kick for the past six months, I've had to stop going to Quizno's (Wow...is that place unhealthy AND expensive!) and started going back to Subway. Â Back in the day I was all about Subway, but then came along Jimmy John's. Â I was soon swayed by the Vito and Billy Club sandwiches. A couple years ago Subway seemed to revamp their image and suddenly their sandwiches looked much fresher and tastier. Â After a couple tries, I was sold. Â This Subway is run particularly well. Â No, they don't give me free cookies like the one on Diversey did once, but they do always have excellent service and an owner who really does seem to know what's going on. Â Did I mention that they've got seven or eight sandwiches with less than 6 grams of fat? Â The owner recently took over and re-opened the Subway on Clark and Grace too.
