This was an amazing find. Â I never write reviews of restaurants but this was so perfect, I felt compelled to write. Â It's an adorable, intimate, cozy place, and the sushi was out of this world. Â And extremely affordable - also very generous portions. Â I only wish I lived in Ft. Lauderdale so I could go back every week!
Review Source:This is one of our "go to" restaurants for special occasions. The fish is so fresh and flavorful and the specialty rolls over some great combinations. Â I could eat my weight in the "reggae roll." Â A really nice option are the cucumber rolls, great flavors and without all the carbs of rice rolls.
It would be nice if the space was a bit bigger, and the service was a little faster. Â But it's worth it. Â Try to get there early, or you could wait a long time.
I've never had a bad meal here! It kinda feels like your at a concert because the music is always soooooo loud! It's fresh and they will make you anything you want!! The service- the waitresses are sooo rude I do want sometimes to tell tell go back to their country because they are such asses but I bite my lip because I enjoy going their for the sushi! They have a great selection of sake and beer! If you go on a Saturday or Friday night be prepared to wait for a while just get a traveler sake and hangout on Las Olas and soo er or later they will come and find you!
Review Source:went here based on all the really great Yelp reviews I have to say this is the first time I was really in a disagreement with my Yelp community
The service was awful and slow they were out of many menu items and I just felt the guys behind the counter were down right rude
too many options on Las Olas we won't be returning
more rock for the rest of you
I have dined here way too many times. Enough times that the staff recognizes me and a waitress knows my order down to a T. Am I proud of this? Yes I am. Because this place rocks!
The fish is always fresh and the menu items are always consistent. My review is strictly aimed towards the sushi served at Sushi Rock, as I have not delved into the non sushi items on the menu and don't intend to.
Big Bopper all the way every day. This roll has yellowtail, tuna, salmon and either asparagus or avocado. Wrapped in seaweed with a lightly tempura crust. Topped with Sushi Rock's quality eel sauce, spicy mayo and either kimchi or sriracha.
AMAZING! I gobble this up like I gobble up my mom's turkey every Thanksgiving!
ONLY DOWNSIDE: Please do not confuse this location with the South Beach location. Unfortunately the owners were not conscious enough to differentiate the two restaurants upon separating as partners. The South Beach location does not have the signature rolls that the Ft. Lauderdale location has and nether the quality.
I have fallen victim to this consumer confusion. Both locations have the same exact name and same exact logo. Hopefully the owner of Ft. Lauderdale will wake up and smell the roses.
A small group of us stopped here for a light dinner before we headed out for some halloween festivities. Â We waited for a good 15 minute and it was about 830ish on a saturday. Â Started off with Sashimi appetizer. Â The portion was pretty small couldn't really share it among others, but the quality of the fish was decent. Â After reading the rest of the menu I realized the rolls were named after famous rock bands-hence its name Sushi Rock Cafe. Â Pretty creative idea. Â I felt extra confident that night, so I took on a dare that I would finish the entire Red Hot Chilli Pepper Tuna Roll. Â It has a nice crunchy texture to it and of course the chunks of jalapenos wrapped inside makes it extremely spicy, and not to mention the hot sauce dressed on the outside. Â I drank warm tea in between to help relieve this. Â This is a pretty big roll, 8 jumbo pieces, more than Im used to. Â I heart this roll, even though it made me cry.
Review Source:Meh is right. 9pm on a thursday night, pretty busy and crowded. the rolls were unimpressive --sushi rock roll was damn big, hard to eat 90% rice, meh, blondie roll wasn't impressive either. miso soup was the best thing of the night, but i did get to take the rest of the vino bottle home, woohoo. idk if i'd be back. service wasnt the best, damn annoying cougars craving attention being loud singin to the music, whcih was a 90s wonderland. meh
Review Source:Note: On Yelp I review exclusively sushi bars.
If I wanted only rolls, this place would get five stars. Its what they 're famous for. However, for me sashimi then nigiri sushi start my meals, and a roll is a great late meal piece. They will only allow you to order from the chef when its off hours (bad sign). The quality of fish is average and the variety standard. The chef was acceptable and friendly.
They do get bonus points for real wasabi available upon request for additional cost. It is a diced wasabi mixture with a little garlic I believe, so it is much more enjoyable and compex than the horseradish powder that passes as wasabi in 95% of all sushi joints, but not quite as good as fresh root grated wasabi available at a few top bars.
Unfortunately the terrible service and unprofessional treatment my friend and I received here will overshadow any positive things I have to say about the food. We were traveling to Naples and ended up flying into ft. Lauderdale. Since Naples is unfortunately lacking in sushi, we decided to get that off our list immediately. We ended up at sushi rock cafe partly because of the location and partly because of it being open late night.
The restaurant itself is really nothing impressive. A hole in the wall where you feel like you're sitting on top of the person next to you. But whatever, give me some quality sushi and a glass of oyster bay and I'm a happy clam. My friend and I proceeded to order some rolls--I had 3 and my friend ordered 4. Our waitress proceeded to comment on how that was a lot of food and ask whether we were sure we'd be able to finish it. My first problem with this sort of attitude is it's non of your god damn business how much food I order. I am a paying customer so how about you do your job and SERVE me. Secondly, I expect my Russian relatives to comment on how much I'm eating at dinner and tell me that maybe I should slow it down...I do not expect this from my server at a restaurant. Ugh. Anyway, we proceeded to drink our wine and try to disregard how incredibly offensive our server was. That is until she brought our food. She set the plates down and then leaned over to me and said "that's a lot of food! You gonna need some help?" I actually couldn't believe that she was still griping on this after we had made it incredibly clear with our general attitude that we did not care for her opinion on how much sushi we were about to shovel in. I asked her to repeat herself until It was actually clear that she was in fact AGAIN commenting on how much I was eating. Finally this seemed to elicit the appropriate response of extreme discomfort on her part. I replied that no I was not going to need any help. Princess can eat.
Now for the sushi--nothing spectacular. Beware, they put kimchee on EVERYTHING.
House salad with ginger--different....but not in a drastically better way. Avocado salad was good, but I personnel needed to add a little soy to jazz it up. Fiancee ordered the CA Roll, which was ok. I got the Crazy Roll. I guess I'm not a huge fan of crispy salmon skin, but I thought I'd give it a try. All in all, decent sushi, cute place, fast service.
Review Source:I've never gotten anything bad from Sushi Rock before. Great variety, fresh fish, and friendly service. There's even a parking lot a couple blocks away that's cheap to park in. Be warned that this place is small and popular though, so either come at off-peak times or be prepared for it to be crowded with a wait.
Ebony & Ivory is my favorite, and I really enjoy the big bopper and toasted bagel. Try the monkees, it's fun (crunchy banana tempura, cream cheese, eel with eel sauce on top). Some of the sushi rolls are small, and some of the grill options are fairly small as well but the prices here are good so just get an appetizer too and you'll be good to go.
Love, love, love this place!! Â We go here at least 3-5 times a month. Â It is a small, intimate dining space, but if you go before 6PM, its not filling up yet usually. Â If you have to wait, have a glass of wine or beer and hang out til your table is ready. Â Fish is always fresh, spicy mayo is very spicy, not for the wimpy!! Â They know us there by name now, so we always have great service by our fav waitress. Â We eat alot of sushi, so you gotta try this place!! Â We haven't found one better in the area and we do try to sample around and always come back here!!
Review Source:Fun vibe with old-school tunes and great eats! Â The service was prompt and attentive. Â The prices were average for the area. Â The sushi was fresh and kudos on the cucumber salad. Â They were kind enough to make a special order for my friend who had some particular dietary restrictions. Â I'll definitely be back.
Review Source:While visiting Fort Lauderdale, we were craving for sushi, and decided to try this place out. Â The atmosphere was cool and has a nice rock vibe to it, however, its quite small. Â Also, the staff here are nice and attentive. Â We had the following:
- Hamachi Kama - fish was pretty small, and over cooked, not that great
- Steak Tataki - beef tasted old and not fresh at all
- Pink Floyd - the rolls were mediocre
- Michael Jackson - the rolls were mediocre
- Big Bopper - the rolls were mediocre
We wanted sushi, and we were very disappointed... Â lets just say, we won't be coming back.
The atmosphere is very cool - absolutely enjoyed the dark, rock vibe. We came a little early, before 6, and the place was empty, but by the time we left it was packed. The service more than made up for it - the tables are small but they cleared them immediately, so it never really felt crowded to me.
Homemade ginger dressing on my salad was ah-mazing. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and decided to try a whole bunch of rolls - Red Hot Chili Pepper, Blondie, their namesake Sushi Rock, and a special roll that's not on menu: Feeling Hot Hot Hot. We also enjoyed fresh wasabi on the side. All of the rolls were fresh and very flavorful, but for me, the Blondie really stood out (my husband tells me I'm crazy and the Red Hot Chili Pepper was the best.) You also can't beat the prices - each roll came with 10 pcs, my husband had two beers and I had two glasses of wine for about $100!
Would love to come back if we're ever in the area.
The food here is fantastic. Let's start off with that because it must be stressed. The sushi is delicious.
So far I've been once and I'm dying to go again. I only wish I lived closer. My friend and I went for dinner one evening. Unfortunately it was raining and we got pretty wet from walking from our car to the place. That's one thing I'm not a fan of - the parking. That's a city, thing, though and can't be avoided, so I don't blame Sushi Rock for it. Anyway, we were soaked when we walked in. Once we sat down, the waitress immediately brought napkins over to us to help us dry off. She said she noticed our situation. Not sure if she was doing it to be nice or if she was afraid we'd mess up the furniture by being wet, but either way she was very sweet about it and we appreciated it.
The seating is a little strange. It's a small place. There's this, like, shared couch thing that spans several tables, so the unfortunate one of a duo may find themselves sitting uncomfortably close to a stranger. I was the unfortunate one this time. Although I guess the stranger was unfortunate because I was the one soaking wet. Call it even.
I had the Pink Floyd. Words can't adequately describe how good it was. I haven't yet tried anything else, but so far I haven't met a single person who has eaten there who didn't love what they ordered.
Service was slightly slow, but it wasn't anything outrageous or inconvenient, especially considering how they progressively got busier as the night went on. The waitress was polite.
Visit this place.
A small hole in the wall place, serving up the best sushi I've ever had. Â Literally fits maybe 40 people at most... not many tables and the wait is CRAZY long on the weekends. Â BUT, 100% worth the wait. Â I've gone many times for lunch, and its empty, but on the weekends, hour long wait. Â
Everything I've had is amazing. Â The seaweed salad is awesome as an appetizer. Â They have their signature rolls that follow suit with the name of the place... they are named after bands, songs, etc. Â I've tried quite a few rolls. Â My favorite by far is the Sublime. Â But, I also highly recommend The Blondie, The Michael Jackson, The Monkees (tempura banana... enough said), Wallflowers, Red Hot Chili Pepper (SUPER SPICY so be prepared for that), the Big Bopper.... any other ones. Â Service is awesome. Â Everyone is sooo nice! Â HIGHLY recommend. Â If you love sushi, you'll love this place!
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Really original rolls. I've been here three times; the service is always great and the food is delicious. The strawberry fields roll is amazing.
The place is wicked tiny so expect to cozy up to your neighbors. The rolls are a litlte pricey, but definitely worth it. Service was pretty quick every time I went, but always on a weekday. Definitely worth trying!
Tiny little sushi bar, its like 10 tables + 10 seats at the bar so don't expect to sit right away on a weekend night. They say they take reservations/call aheads and I've done so, but still end up waiting a while so don't expect to make your movie time if that's what you're doing afterwards.
Its a funky little place that plays all 90s music, which to me at least is awesome hearing stuff I grew up on and I'm like 'wow I haven't heard that song in the LONGEST time.' Also, each of the specialty rolls are named after musicians.
A little pricey, but don't worry the rolls are MASSIVE and delicious. If you go with a group, get a variety of rolls as they will arrange them on a boat and you can have like 2 pieces of each. Don't let your eyes get bigger than your stomach though because like I said you WILL get a lot per roll.
I've gone multiple times and I can see myself going multiple times more.
Big Bopper, Wallflowers, Michael Jackson are my favorites.
If you're looking for a sushi place with fresh fish and creative menu options in a trendy yet casual environment, Sushi Rock is a perfect choice. I love the red hot chili pepper roll! Whether you are meeting a group of friends on the weekend or just looking for a convenient midweek dining option, this restaurant has something for everyone.
It is not a big place, so if you're going with a group you should call ahead or be prepared to wait.
My experience at Sushi Rock did not start off on a high note. When we arrived, I was told that it would be thirty minutes for a table for seven people. We waited....and waited....and waited. We kept asking if our table was ready, but we just kept getting the same response, "It will only be a few more minutes." Finally after an hour and a half of waiting we were seated. Oh and we were seated at a table only for six people, not seven. Good thing we were all friends, because we were sitting very close to each other.
We started ordering drinks, and a lot of us were getting waters, mainly because it was 95 degrees outside. You could see the blood beginning to boil in our waitresses face. Luckily, my girlfriend and I order some sake, as not to piss her off any more. Oh and she immediately informed us that she could not do separate checks. I call BS lady! Every restaurant in the world can do separate checks, I guess she was just not smart enough to figure out how to do it.
The only saving grace for this place was the delicious rolls they made. While, they were a little more pricy than what I'm use to paying, it was well worth it. All of the rolls are named after famous rock bands; the Red Hot Chili Pepper, the Pink Floyd, etc. All four rolls that we ordered, were delicious!
The service was crap, the environment was filled with douche bags, but at least the sushi was awesome. My only word of advise, "Take-Out."
Well, they're lucky their sushi is delicious, because everything else was crap.
I came to visit some friends, and ended up waiting for almost 90 minutes (after a 30 minute wait was suggested) for a table of 7. Â We then arrived at our table, only to see only 6 places available. Â They finally tacked on a chair at the end of the table by asking the table next to us if they could move their seats down. Â Did I mention they asked them WHILE they were doing it?? Â Awkward.
The first thing our waitress said to us once we were FINALLY situated was that she could not split the check. Â This ain't my first restaurant lady, we all know you can split a check. Â But thanks for letting us know in advance that you are already refusing to go to any trouble whatsoever. Â And to make matters worse, she scoffed at every single person who ordered water. Â Luckily, boyfriend and I ordered sake!
The food came out pretty far apart, so a lot of us were eating in intervals. Â A friend got a tofu stir fry plate, and I have to say, that tofu may as well have been made of plastic, because that's what it tasted like!
Aside from the worst service ever, the sushi was delicious. Â The Red Hot Chili Pepper roll was off the chain. Â And the edemame was also pretty tasty too. Â I wish I remembered what else I got, so that I could recommend it, but honestly, my biggest recommendation would be to steer clear from here on the weekends.
Overall rating:
Sushi: 3 stars
Service: -1 stars
Clientele: Douche-tastic
My parents live right down the street from Sushi Rock and I finally made it in here on my list trip down from Boston. Â Holy crap this is some good sushi. Â Boston has some amazing places and Sushi Rock is right up there on the list - if not surpassing a few notable spots in MA. Â
The place is very small (as everyone has noted) but arriving at 6:00pm guaranteed a seat, though it filled up pretty quickly after that. Â We ordered the Fabolous Cucumber roll (crab, avocado. roe, and sesame in rice vinegar with a drizzling of sweet miso sauce) as an app and though it was outstanding, it may have been better served at the end of the meal as a palate cleanser. Â It was super refreshing. Â We also ordered the spring rolls as an app but they were wayyyy too hot to be eaten until the end of the meal.
We split a spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll for dinner (each roll came with 10 pieces so we were sufficiently full) and these rolls were unbelievable. Â Extremely fresh and so so delicious. Â
Everything about this place is awesome. Â The service was great, the sushi was outstanding, yeah... I just can't wait to come back every time I'm back in Ft. Lauderdale.
This place was so good we went twice during our one week vacation in Ft. Lauderdale.
We ordered the duet, which was a boat of sushi with a bunch of nigiri, sushi and two rolls. They bring you a california and philadelphia roll unless you ask otherwise. You also get a salad, pretty good deal.
Hubby' s favorite part was the fresh wasabi. Its not the same as the mini green tower. It is super spicy too.
I definitely recommend this place!
First time here and it was for lunch. Â Tiny little place that looks like it's probably a lot of fun in the evening except for parking nightmares.
The food came fast and was really good. My favoried was the smoked salmon roll that they serve. Â It was the best sushi roll I have ever had. I'm still dreaming of it.
I went here for my birthday, and from what I remember of it, it was divine.
There was a group of about twelve of us all said and done. The waiters and waitresses were supremely accommodating, especially since we had stragglers an hour late, due to the miami style of life.
the space is very small, with seating for about 15 at the bar and an additional 40 at tables, with street seating (which I would not recommend, too groggy and near the road). try to arrive early or very late to eat - when I arrived, no reservations were being accepted.
of the many plates sampled, the seaweed salad felt like I was adding years of life for its inherent health benefits.
the tuna appetizer was presented much like fine prosciutto - finely cut and melt-in-your-mouth smooth. lightly flavored with an optional thickened ginger soy sauce.
the edamame was pretty standard and tasty.
we also ordered the largest sushi boat possible, which was an excellent decision on everyones part. there was a wide variety of mostly tuna, salmon and the corresponding rolls with more of the same. there were a few specialty and fried rolls sprinkled in with orange roe. but the quality of the fish was first-rate.
things got a bit fuzzy soon after the boat arrived. see, amidst the club-like atmosphere and blacklight, there is a desire to drink. and sushi rock seems to specialize in sake bombs. I recommend a few of these, but buyer beware! they do have a tendency of arriving quicker and quicker when someone breathes a mention of them. but they are delicious and fun to have with a rancorous crowd.
my small complaint would be that sushi rock was selling shirts with their logo on it for $15. I got one, but after the second wash, it developed a gigantic hole in the front, right where the screen printing was. I was rather disappointed about that.
Little place down Las Olas Blvd. Â No reservations just walk in and cross your fingers there's no wait line but, even if there is, believe me you'll want to wait. Â Go inside, put your name on the list, grab a drink or beer and wait for your turn to sit.
Staff is very attentive, fast with orders, and friendly. Â You can either sit inside, outside, or at the bar, which is decorated with little hanging blowfishes.
Their menu is extensive in every section: starters, you can choose from edamame, seaweed salad, dumplings, soups. Â They have rolls, sashimi, combination platters, and so much more. Â Fun touch to their menu is that it's inspired by music. Â You'll find names like "Blondie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Wallflowers..."
We started with Edamame and their Great Balls Of Fire Dumplings (w/ hot wassail in them - even when the menu says this, it's still a surprise when it hits you). Â We ordered 3 of the rolls for the table, the Sublime (shrimp tempura & seafood dynamite w/ avocado, scallions & sweet eel sauce), the Pink Floyd (baked seafood dynamite & tempura crunchies w/ crab & a spicy sweet sauce), and the Reggae (conch and salmon w/ scallions and spicy mayo). Â All 3 of them were perfect, still can't tell which was my favorite. Â Pair this with a Kirin Light, and sake (sake bombs) and your sushi party is complete!
I had a few hours to kill before my flight back home so I decided to grab lunch at this nondescript sushi place (thanks to all the positive Yelp reviews). Their decor reminds me of a guy's dorm room -- there is copious use of black lights and their stereo system has a thumpin subwoofer hidden somewhere (though the music was always at a reasonable volume).
Though the space is nothing to Yelp about the sushi is really good. I had a couple sake and ebi nigiris both were delicious and the Red Hot Chili Peppers roll was fantastic (loved the crunch and spicy sauce).
If you're a sushi fan and can roll (pardon the pun) with a very casual-almost-hole-in-the-wall dining experience, check them out.
Oh Fort Lauderdale you are a sad sad sad place. Â
OUT OF TOWNERS READ MY REVIEW!
If you think PF Chang's is the best Chinese food in the world don't read this review.
But, if you think no matter what you do to a Chrysler 300 it still looks like a Chrysler 300 then continue reading...
Having just spent a week in Key West enjoying the Sun, Alcohol, and Wickedness that is Key West, we were looking for a great restaurant to cap off our vacation. Â With yelp as my trusty food guide we picked Sushi Rock as many have quoted "the best sushi place in south florida". Â Even the valet kid at our hotel said it was awesome. Â
Thinking we would have a great meal we went...
If you like real Sushi then this place just flat out blows! Â
We started our meal with the Usuzukhuri.
How can you get crappy tuna when the gulf stream is 30 minutes off the coast of Florida? Â The fish was completely the wrong temperature, meaning it was tepid like a melting pad of butter, and the fish tasted like it marinated in some other dying fish.
For our meals we ordered a combination meal with sushi, california roll, and steak teriyaki. Â The teriyaki was like beef jerky, drenched in so much sauce that it was like a gooey teriyaki sauce soup.
We also ordered a couple of the restaurants "signature rolls", can you say WTF?  We ordered  the Big Bopper, the Michael Jackson, and the Crazy Roll. Â
The Big Bopper and the MJ are completely indistinguishable when it gets in your mouth. Â MJ has cream cheese in it which in this particular application acts like a paste that melds all the other crap in the roll together creating one big messy taste of cream cheese gone bad. Â At the same time the Big Bopper which is supposed to have BBQ eel and caviar in it again becomes completely indistinguishable once it's in your mouth. Â In fact if you put the two rolls in your mouth with your eyes closed you would think you are eating the same gooey pile of mush.
We ended up spending $100+, I was at first shocked, then in awe, then feeling I had been violated, and then just bitter. Â I have no qualms about paying for good food, but this my friends is a waste, and if this is an indication of what is considered really good food in Fort Lauderdale you are better off eating at TGI Fridays, or Subway because at least at those places you know what to expect. Â
I would probably give this a two and half stars but I feel this joint needs to be brought down to earth because the line of people that we saw after us is clearly unwarranted. Â
Hey Fort Lauaderdale you all wouldn't know good Sushi if it jumped out of the gulf stream committed hari kari or seppuku and laid pieces of it in your open mouth, and then said "Sir, I am sorry for having taken so long to die as I am only 2 minutes fresh.".
Yea, thou I walk through the valley of sushi-emptiness, aka- south Florida;
I shall fear no wannabe;
for Sushi Rock is located at 1515 E Las Olas Blvd;
your tempura and spicy tuna rolls;
they comfort me.
Listen not to the faithless that speak of the death of sushi in Florida! Â Behold, I have found a place where sushi lives and tempura is fresh! Â A place frequented by Japanese who speak, *gasp*, Japanese!!
Seriously, this place beats any I've tried for sushi, hands down. Â It really is a miracle of god to find a decent sushi place here in Florida. Â This is coming from someone who use to have sushi five or six times a week, so trust me when I say that this place is amazing.
The restaurant may not be impressive, but boy do they know real authentic Japanese. Â They even Yakiniku, for those sushi haters out there.
Will not disappoint. Â But then again, how can you be disappointed when you have sake??
Sushi Rock is one of my original favorite restaurants, and it has the notable distinction of being the first place I ever tried real sushi.
Food:
Hardly anyone can complain about Sushi Rock's food, as you can tell from all those reviews below. When it comes to making maki and slicing sashimi, Sushi Rock is one of my number ones. But seriously, alliteration aside, this place makes some damn good sushi, and just read through my reviews, you'll see I eat a lot of it.
One of my ultimate favorites is the Volcano Roll, it's a cucumber and cream cheese roll topped with chopped conch, spicy mayo and roe. I can eat this roll everyday, all day, along with the spicy tuna temaki. Each roll is made compactly and firmly, no crumbling in your soy sauce here. And in addition to the names, the rolls are creative beyond belief. Definitely not your traditional sushi restaurant, all Sushi Rock needs is a big name attached to it and it'd be a world-known restaurant.
For those a little more local, Sushi Rock is still an institution as Jay A. says. Try the Rock and Roll, a specialty lobster makimono that's served with full tail. Also, I recommend the usuzukuri or chirashi for some fantastically fresh fish. If you're feeling daring and sitting at the bar, try asking for some of the chefs' personal creations as well, they might just surprise you with something new! But really you can't go wrong, I'm partial to the chicken harumaki and edamame, as well as the sushi appetizer. But be adventurous, because everything's great, even the non-sushi dishes.
Venue:
I have been going to Sushi Rock since, no joke, the first week it opened. There are pictures on the wall, and if you look close enough, there's a girl in a white shirt with colorful dolphins on it, sitting with her parents. It's still there, and they still know me. Mr Luke, the owner is a real sweetie, and a few of the waitresses are still there. I even when to karate and high school with one of their sons. So, it's my place, I'm a regular, a local.
But that was a few years ago, and although they still remember me, I sometimes miss their old decor. It wasn't quite as dark, and the blacklights were accents, not the main source. Records hung from the ceiling, and the place seemed to sit more. 10 years later they still have the same pufferfish hanging over the bar, and some of the same records taped to the wall. The room's a little darker now, and the poster in the bathroom hallway have finally been upgraded, but it's the same Sushi Rock, and it's still crowded.
Go early or later to avoid the rush, and make sure to get some sushi. Try and get the booth right behind the hostess stand, as it's the most spacious. And don't forget to get some sake and share a glass with Mr Luke, he may be Thai, but he and his crew know his sushi!
3.75 Stars
Okay, so this is probably the best place for sushi in the Fort Lauderdale area. Â There are many creative rolls that actually work (eel & strawberry & green apple, yum). Â The ingredients are fresh, but the rolls are huge...so order less than you think you can eat, because it does not keep in your to-go boxes. Â :)
That being said, I think I actually might prefer Wasabi Cafe's sushi on a more authentic level. Â Sushi Rock is imaginative and fun and very fresh -- but it's always a pain because it's ridiculously crowded. Â For Fort Lauderdale, it's a solid 4 to 4.5, but compared to all the sushi places I've been to, it's closer to a 3. Â I'll give it somewhere in between -- a 3.75.
