I loooove this place. If I could get a wonton soup and tofu pad thai every time I had a craving, this place would be rich in no time! I get take out every single time and I was offered water while I waited a few times, which is really nice! The owners are really really nice, I cannot say more about them!!
It's a struggle for me to find good, affordable thai food, but this place is a definite YES!

This is my favorite Thai place in Uptown.  I definitely recommend trying it out.  You will be hooked!

This place was the epitome of "meh" for me. I ordered their pad see ew, and my taste buds could not have been more bored. I would be willing to try them again if there had been anything that stood out, but the noodles weren't especially thick or thin, the sauce was not especially flavorful, the vegetables weren't especially fresh, and the portions weren't especially generous.

Everything about it was mediocre, which suggested to me that this is a middle-of-the-road thai place and not that I just happened to get a dish with an unfortunate component. WIth so many better thai restaurants in the area, there's no reason to take another chance on "meh."

What a great lil spot! I got the pot stickers because the previous reviewer mentioned how great they were and man were they right! Probably the best pot stickers I have ever had! The lunch special was more than enough and came with a salad and crab rangoon which was completely filled and wonderful. The prices were a bonus as was the Thai iced tea, yummy! Very very happy we went there. My 2yr old was acting up and the staff was very pleasant and calm with her, I will go there again and tell all my friends to go as well!

Place is okay, I got their vegetable pad thai and it's a little too sweet for my taste. We also got their chicken wings appetizer and it was okay but overall great customer service.

Had some papaya salad here before class and asked for it spicy. It was okay for the spice, but I didn't think they would have made it so sweet. Overall it wasn't bad though. I wouldn't say this is better or worse than your average Thai restaurant. I may be back to try another dish.

Really? One scoop of white rice? For a whole bowl of green curry? Give me a break.  How can they even justify that?

While the food was good (sweeter than normal pad thai and delish green curry), the ridiculousness of only one small a** scoop of white rice really took away from this entire experience.  Also, the service was not....particularly good.

Prices are cheaper than in other areas, so that's plus.  The best bet next time is to order for pick-up and make sure you have a pot of rice waiting for you at home.  Skip!

I had had such an intense craving for thai food, that when I saw this small restaurant right across the street from the el station on Wilson that I knew it was meant to be. The prices were extremely reasonable and the crab rangoon and hot pot noodle were absolutely amazing. The food was so fresh that I even loved the onions in my entree, even though I typically hate them. I came in and ordered it to go and it was done within 10 minutes and the lady at the register even offered me a glass of water to have while I was waiting. I will be definitely visiting again.

Ordered delivery and it got here in about 30 minutes, which I think is pretty quick.  Green curry with chicken was amazeballs, but I did not like the eggplant in it.  Not a bad taste, just a weird texture.  Husband ordered shrimp pad Thai and he loved it.  Potstickers for an appetizer were also quite delicious.  We will be ordering from here again.  The prices on their website are different from the menu prices, but only off by about 50 cents to a dollar.  Still worth the money...food is great!

I came here one day while I had some time to kill before an appointment, and I'm glad I did. The 7 dollar lunch special is well worth it, and it's extremely quick. Entree comes with two rangoons and a side salad.
I ordered pad khee mao, it wasn't too spicy, but it was still good. They did have tomato in theirs which I prefer to leave out, but it's not a deal breaker. I also ordered chicken skewers because I skipped breakfast that day and was very hungry. Those were pretty good too! Although, I do think one of them was undercooked, I couldn't eat it because the texture was a little off.
Come here if you're tight on cash and craving thai food.

I have to give it to this place. I've had almost half of the menu and it's always super flavorful, fresh and authentic. They don't use MSG, are extremely friendly and quick. It would have to be my go to place for thai food in uptown. Some of my favorites include:
Panang Curry (deep flavors yet simple)
Mussuman Curry (very flavorful and rich)
Pad Thai (I know I know, but it's the best I've had anywhere)
    Seafood Salad (interesting salad dressing)
Chicken Satay (with homemade sauce... mmmm mmmmm)
COCONUT ICECREAM (it's not really icecream, it's better!)

Good Thai food and nice service, you won't be disappointed, with such a broad and competitive list of Thai places in the area, it's hard to give 5 stars. Not the best in Uptown but definitely one that you have to try and make your own opinion, highly recommended. The prices are excellent.

It's easy to overlook this hidden Uptown gem.  Excellent Thai food each time I go there.  My favorites include the Ginger Chicken and the Sweet Basil Chicken, but a friend of mine loves their Pad Thai.  Portions are generous, and you will be surprised by the reasonable prices. Clean, colorful interior and friendly family owners help to make for an enjoyable environment. Once you spot and try the food at Thai Uptown, you'll easily find it again for more.

My comfort food "go to" place.  Family owned, and one of the nicest families ever.  It's not fancy, but the food is fresh and good, and the prices are outstanding.

The lunch specials are about $6.50, from 11:30am until 3pm.  But if that's too limiting, try the extensive menu.  I love the yellow curry (and I'm someone who does not care for spicy food); the chicken satay; the cashew chicken; and the cucumber salad.

The crab rangoon are wonderful, and come to the table so hot that you really have to wait to eat them.  The portions are generous, especially for the prices.

The service is outstanding.  They are a true mom-and-pop shop; it's like visiting the Asian relatives you never knew you had.

They're open late, until 9:30pm.  They have a plot in the community garden behind the store, where they grow some of the herbs they use in the food.  Really, just a nice neighborhood place I've eaten at a few times a month for four or five years.  I've never walked out disappointed.

Cheap and delicious.  That's all I need from a Thai restaurant.  A perfect mix of Thai iced tea would be a plus, but not a must.

Thai Uptown fits the bill.  It is also the only Thai place in Chicago (at least as far as I know) that serves those giant-stuffed-chicken wings.

They also serve homemade (grandma's recipe, I was told) coconut ice cream.  The consistency and texture is a bit different than 'Western' ice cream, since it is made using coconut milk.  But it is still very yummy!

How cute is the family that runs this place? I love the picture of the baby on the menu!

This place was a end-of-work treat for myself, such a relief to get a hot meal after a lonnnngggg day. I love that you can call ahead and it's ready to pick up on your walk home. I always ordered the beef pad-see-yew and it was always delicious, with lots of broccoli and lots of flavor! The shrimp wonton soup is also really tasty and healthy, great for when you have a cold. The crab rangoon is sinfully good, freshly fried and very generous portions. In general Thai Uptown serves better portions than other Thai places I've been to.

Thai Uptown is convinient and the service is very friendly. And the food is always made fresh. Worth the walk over.

Delicious. Unpretentious. Kind. A green-colored oasis from that dreary block of Broadway around the Wilson stop. For my taste, this was probably the best cashew chicken I can recall having at any restaurant -- generously portioned, the right amount of umami, chunks of peppers, plenty of cashew action, served hot and with sincerity. And all at a great price. I will more than forgive the "Word Art" on the menu.

Just like my last meal here over 2 yrs ago, it was just as good.  I ordered the sweet basil chicken (spicy) and my partner ordered the green curry chicken.  We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I love the fact that you can order brown rice with your meal.  They truly listen to your order.  I hate ordering an item, spicy, and it comes out mild.  Thai Uptown made it a spicy that was very delicious and very tolerable!! Kudos!! Don't know why it took me 2 yrs to get back there.

This place is a little uptown treasure, to me and my wallet.  It's really good and also has a great lunch special including an appetizer and entree portioned for one.  It's perfect.  The people who work there are very nice as well.  I am a little hooked on the cashew chicken, it's very light and their food lacks a certain oiliness that I find most Thai places to have.  I always get carry out but the place is very cute, it has a laid back neighborhood feel.

I order food from here at least once per week.  The food is very good and everyone who works there is super pleasant.

One of my favorite thai dishes is Prig King.  Pork stirfried with a special garlicky chile paste.  Sam, the owner, told me to have the steamed rice stir fried in at the end and now I get it that way all the time.  Thanks Sam.

The fried rice is spectacular, as well as the house made coconut ice cream.

    Thank you Thai Uptown

During the end of October, I went to Chicago with my mom and aunties. Before heading back to Minnesota from Chicago, we stopped over to Thai Uptown.
I ordered the Shrimp friends rice, I believe, and the crab rangoon. mmmmm :)

My mom still to this day, mentions how wonderful the pineapple fried rice was. personally, I don't believe that pineapple works in any non-dessert dish, but that's just my opinion. Maybe i should have tried the pineapple rice though, now regret that i didn't....
    Good prices!

Super friendly service, they even gave us coconut ice cream on the house; tasted like sweet coconut snow. My favorite. That is something i'll be coming back for in the future.
    :)

The lunch specials here are only $6.50. It comes with a soup or salad and an appetizer.

I believe the soup I got was a bland vegetable tofu soup. It was still decent considering it was rather cold and windy outside. Then the main dish was brought out with the appetizer on the same plate.

I wonder if next time I can choose the appetizer because they gave me two crab ragoons which are not really what I like, but I could imagine that other people would like it.

The main dish I got was a spicy basil noodle dish with chicken. It was excellent. I was reading someone else's review that the portion would be like the dinner portion but no, it is a lunch portion. I enjoyed the food so much that I asked for a delivery menu.

The wait staff were friendly and attentive to my needs. As a warning, just be aware of your surroundings when walking to this restaurant. It is conveniently located off the Wilson Red Line stop and also Truman College.

In some ways, the Uptown 'hood has changed since I used to live here (in '05). In others, it hasn't. For instance, you can come here and still be able to score a sweet deal on good food that would be double the price elsewhere in the city. Thai Uptown is a new addition since my last jaunt to my old stomping grounds, but it delivers good ol' unpretentious, home-style, flavorful food I'd expect from an establishment in these parts.

The lunch special, for $6.50, is pretty unbeatable. The entree seems to be a regular dinner portion (it was more than I could eat for lunch, anyway), and comes with a side salad (with a kickin' sweet and sour dressing) and two crab rangoons - a little too creamy but decent nonetheless.

Besides some disappointing fried tofu appetizers, my friends and I were pleased overall with our dishes, and with the service. From what I gathered from our waitress, her dad makes all the food himself, from scratch.

Neighborhood cute with some pretty tasty food....vietnameese spring rolls were clearly hand-made, not just taken out of the refrigerator like most Thai restaurants do. Nice start.

Had mussaman curry ( I always do, it is my own personal barometer of a Thai restaurant, if they don't serve mussaman curry I don't eat there) and it was really pretty good. Too many peanuts made it way more crunchy than I like and there was about 5 total pieces of chicken. mmmm, alright. Not blown away.

Friend had spicy chicken dish with rice, I think that is where they put all my chicken because she had a mountain of it.

Can I have some more chicken next time? And less peanuts? Thanks Thai Uptown. Service was sweet, food ok. Just ok.

I love this place.  Their red curry is the best!  Sometimes I will also order their Mongolian Beef or Pad Thai to eat some other day.  Like another review says, their crab rangoon is good, but try their Thai Spring rolls, which are great for lunch - light but still filling (no guilt after).
The will also substitute brown rice for white, but for a fee and less quantity (not a big deal for me unless I'm ordering curry and have a lot of sauce left).

Great for lunch in Uptown!  $6.25 gets you two crab rangoons, veggie soup, and one of a ton of entree options.  The food was delcious, and they have brown rice!

i've been jonesing for thai the past couple of weeks, so thai uptown was needed to take care of that affliction. I called them up for pickup and it was real easy to find it on broadway. A good amount of easy parking by it also helped.

I ordered up some chicken satay, sticky rice, and the uptown special with chicken. The peanut sauce for the satay was spot on and was thick as well. The uptown special was extremely good and filled with all sorts of hot and sweet spices. The sticky rice was exactly how it should be which always makes me happy.

This was everything I wanted and more. The place was cozy and nice when I went in and I'd like to sit down next time to spend more time

Last night I was craving some form of Chinese chicken, and when the place right below my apartment was closed, my 'fella took it upon himself to continue to search for some form of dinner for me (he's a sweet heart, isn't he?).

He got in to Thai Uptown just as they were closing, and brought me home the most wonderful surprise -- orange chicken with BROWN rice!  Oh, be still my heart!  The food was all around very fresh, the rice was awesome, they packaged the sauce separately so the chicken was still crispy and yummy and so delicious, and I didn't feel that usual gross heaviness that sets in after devouring a take-out chicken dish.

We found it on accident, and now I can't wait to try it again!  Thanks for the last-minute dinner!

I have nothing but great things to say about Thai Uptown! I love the ambiance of the restaurant. It's clean and cozy. The service was so great. And the food - amazing.

We ordered Pad Thai and Orange Chicken with Brown Rice. The Pad Thai was good, but the Orange Chicken and Brown Rice were phenomena! Seriously though, it was the best chicken and rice I've ever had. The chicken is coated in this really great batter and the orange sauce is so tasty. The rice is soft and sticky, but really any way I try to describe it won't do it justice.

And I love how they provide a card in the menu with pictures of their most popular dishes so you can see what the food looks like. I can't can't can't wait to go back again!

    Thai Uptown is a WIN!

I go to school at Truman, and Jimmy John's is usually my go-to lunch place. However, one day I was feeling adventurous. My friend & I wanted to try an Indian restaraunt on Broadway, but we couldn't even handle the smell.

    Enter: Thai Uptown.
The first place that I have had non-crispy pad see ewe. It was very tasty! We were the only people in the restaraunt, which can sometimes be uncomfortable. The people who were working did not make us feel that way at all. They were friendly, and just attentive enough.

And thai iced tea = yum. Win!

This is an amazing Thai restaurant. The family who owns/operates is all very friendly and treat everyone who dines here like a real guest. They are working on a new supplemental menu of traditonal Thai dishes to serve alonside the expected curries, egg rolls, pad thai, and others (not to imply that they aren't great!).
I loved the food here, and dine here regularly!

Also, they have the fastest delivery I have experienced in Chicago (my last order came within 20 minutes!)

This spacious restaurant is located right off the Wilson Red Line stop at Wilson and Broadway.  The menu is gigantic.  My friend and I were the only customers there.  I got a super yummy pad thai with chicken.  It was a great meal of stir-fried thin rice noodles with eggs, ground peanuts, bean sprouts, cabbage, and tamarind sauce.  I used a bit extra of the spicy table sauce.  We didn't get appetizers, and yet both ate only half of our meals.  There was plenty of delicious leftovers for the next day.  This is a nice place to sit down and enjoy a good meal because there are big windows for prime people-watching views, and high ceilings make the place airy and breathable.

The lunch specials come with a yummy salad and a tasty appetizer.  A couple weeks after going there, I introduced an out-of towner friend of mine who is big on Thai food to this place.  We had a great lunch there.  She even went back that day to get dinner to go!  She said it was the best Thai food she had ever eaten.

Over the years, I've tried many different Thai places and nothing compares to this place still.

Their lunch specials are as great as you can get in the city - usually crab rangoon and a soup or salad served with your entree for just under $6. Everything is fast, fresh, and the restaurant is clean.

The owner's son told me that they make trips to Stanley's Produce every day to get their fruits and vegetables. Maybe it's because I'm there a lot, but the owner's son let me try his mother's homemade coconut ice cream {which they serve}. "It's not for everyone." he says. But it was AMAZING! There are chunks of fruit in there... she mentioned starfruit, something else that I missed, and surprisingly.... corn! It was sweet and didn't really taste like corn but added a very unique flavor to the ice cream.

    Also, I highly recommend their smoothies. They're not at all like the pictures on the walls - they're almost decadent. They seem to have milk and or ice cream or frozen yogurt in them and they taste like they're made of fresh fruit. {I bet they are because of them going to Stanley's every day.}

I had my birthday dinner there this past year and they even allowed my boyfriend at the time to hide my Carvel ice cream cake in their freezer and have me be surprised after dinner! They also have the "birthday club" where if you eat there on your birthday, they give you a card for the next time you come in - your next meal is free!

It also doesn't hurt that these are some of the nicest people you can come across as far as customer service and friendliness. I think this will always be my favorite Thai place.

It's kind of a diamond in the rough. Its pretty darn clean in there compared to the other shops and restaurants on that block. And the kitchen is out there in the open, so you can watch them prepare your food. Bright, freshly painted walls, and a cute little fake fireplace that is a heater.

The Tom Yum soup warms my heart and soul. The mushrooms are not overcooked! The broth isn't too oily or congealed! The soup hasn't been sitting around for a week! Use caution, however, when he asks if you want it spicy, this is one of those places that likes to challenge.

I know I've had the Vietnamese Spring Rolls here before but unfortunately I can't remember all the details. This must mean they were average, because otherwise I would remember. They also offer Thai rolls and have lunch specials. Staff is friendly (other than that spice thing) and fast service.

This review is based on delivery.

Similar to Gina's experience the man taking our order offered us free soda or free egg rolls, even though we didn't have a coupon. That was super nice! The total was pretty inexpensive, and the deliver guy was there in under a half hour, which was pretty impressive.

Egg rolls and pot stickers were yummy. The Spicy Chicken was pretty good, and the Pad Siew was pretty standard of what you'd find here in Chicago but a little dry.

Side note - I am going to smack the person who bitches that Pad Siew isn't authentic - if I am in Thailand I won't order Pad Siew, but right now, in America that's what I like so that is how I judge Thai places. Don't like it, move on, and keep ordering your General Tso's Chicken while you're at it.

My boyfriend and I ordered delivery from Thai Uptown while moving in to my new apartment about five blocks away. The man who took our order was very polite and offered us two free sodas even though we did not have a coupon. Sweet! And the delivery guy showed up almost instantly on a motor bike.

Over all very decent Thai. Nothing original, but when I have a pad thai craving I would gladly order from here, especially with these prices. Come  finals week my roommates and I will be grateful for Thai Uptown!
