This spot is really close to the stage however you won't hear the music. It just turns into background noise. However they do have a live band inside.
Its too bad your paying concert prices for drinks especially when the best thing on tap is Red Hook...really?
Did not try the food yet, but it looks like regular frozen then fried bar food. Also terrible bathroom lines.
On a business trip to Stamford, CT I stumbled (literally) into this bar. I really liked this place (from what I remember). The beer selection was superb and the staff was fun and friendly. the place is really big too - which is nice if you're with a group. I'm sure I'll wind up back in Stamford and this will be my go-to bar, for sure. Also I want to note that the patrons here all seemed really nice :)
The bathrooms are clean :-D
So during my looooooooooong and boring (no offense) week in Stamford, CT while on business I could not find much to do other than drink myself stupid on a pretty much continual basis and this place came highly recommended. The bartenders were really cool, and I also found out that one of them was a firefighter too.
Anyway, I had a really strong way-too-manly martini (okay I admit it - I love fruity drinks! So what?!) the bartender recommended it. I tried to man-up and drink it without making a terrible look on my face, and succeeded fairly well. After choking down both my pride as I accepted I was not a man, and the terribly strong martini I inadvertently ordered I stuck with my favorite : IPA.
There were quite a few IPA's on tap, and many other cocktail options and for happy hour special all drinks were a dollar off!
The atmosphere is inviting and is kept clean, it's basically a nice suped-up Irish hole in the wall pub.
Were I in CT again or any extended period of time, I would definitely stop by again!
I love this place. It's the only bar on that whole strip that is full of relatively normal friendly people. Met a lot of really cool people there over the years. The out of town weekend Jersey Shore type crowds seem to avoid it and it's full of locals (the good type). The bartenders have always been extremely friendly to me and my girlfriend and do a pretty good job overall. Drinks are reasonably priced. Food is pretty good but a little expensive for an Irish Pub. I usually go during the weeknights because on the weekends the place is just jammed and I usually can't take the cover bands and how loud it is in there. I'll go on the weekends in Spring and Summer because I can sit outside and avoid the music but not in the Winter. That's not a knock on the place, I just hate cover bands in general. Write your own music. I've been coming here for 14 years and have never once seen a fight inside. There's not too many bars I can say that about. I can definitely count them on 1 hand. Also, darts and an Internet Jukebox are huge pluses in my book.
Review Source:Came here on a Thursday evening this past summer and was pleasantly surprised with the vast open space. Atmosphere was very friendly and laidack so that was definitely a plus. I had a great time with friends and there was plenty of room inside and outside on the little "patio" to socialize.
Review Source:I like this place.
Nice open space, good options on tap, decent service and a very central location... close to several nice restaurants & at least a couple hotels for people staying in town. A great option for a beer or two before or after dinner, etc.
Just don't be 30 seconds late if you park in the lot across the street. Those bastards watch the meters like hawks & hand out tickets like candy on Halloween. Seriously, I've been 2 minutes late & gotten ticketed.
A friend and I met and went out in downtown Stamford and this is one of the venues we sought out for drinks and entertainment. Â The post-dinner crowd in attendance was cordial and the bar staff were standard, friendly folk.
We arrived around 8pm while the band was setting up for their night and the staff was at work moving tables and chairs to allow for the masses to gather and gaze in wild wonder. Â The drinks weren't outrageously priced and everyone was very helpful in refilling my beer glass.
The real reason to show up to this bar became evident when the band started. Â The group, Superhero, were the jesters for the evening and they carried themselves very well as artists. They maintained proper diction and sustained the necessary harmonies. Â Musically, it was delightful. Â After many a beer, it was fantastic. Â Great covers but even better was the fact that the drummer had many of the vocal solos. Â Basically like watching Phil Collins perform and not feeling self conscious for admitting that you have a soft spot for Phil Collins to the world through social media.
Great area to get down, bust a groove AND shake it fast.
I stopped in for a quick beer while waiting to pick up some take out food from a neighboring restaurant. Â The bar seats were half full so I sat in an empty spot and watched LSU - Georgia while waiting for the bartender. Â Over the next 10 minutes, the bartender served other patrons, talked to his friends at the end of the bar and basically ignored me. Â I have no idea why, but his quality of service was so piss poor that I just have to vent about it.
Review Source:Location is the real thing, going for Tiernan`s. Â And sometimes the live bands can be kinda fun. Â Its downsides are that the bar staff can be rude, particularly when it is busy. Â And when its busy, its the type of place with dummies spilling their drink on you.
The food is average, but overpriced. Â Really, the key is if you are close by, it is a good place to have drink with a couple friends. Â Anything aside from that, I would steer away.
Tiernan's is one of my go-to lunch joints around town. If you are in the mood for American-style pub fare... this is the place. They have tasty wraps and sandwiches, often a little more inventive than one might expect. They also have a wide array of sides (hello, tater tots!!). Also, they tend to have interesting items as specials.
If you're like me and just want a tasty LUNCH, I would recommend Tiernan's.
Tiernan's has recently become my go to bar in stamford. I like it, the bartenders are nice, the drinks are plentiful, and the tab is never too high. I have one major complaint which is why it is not 5 stars. They have live bands....I love their live bands, they play fantastic covers! but they are so loud that I have to leave the bar after about a half hour. I have this issue with Brick house (also in Stamford) I no longer go there because the music was too loud one too many times.
Summary, I like drinking here and will continue to drink here. But I will also be leaving by 10:30 with ringing ears!
and thank you for carrying Bacardi Razz
I went here for lunch with a group of coworkers. There are places in Stamford with a lot more character for the same price, so I won't be going back.
I had a crab cake sandwich. Of all the cc sandwiches I've had, this was the worst. It consisted of two deep-friend patties that had a thick crust, which was somewhat sweet, and they were dripping with grease. They broke apart and I couldn't really see anything inside that looked remotely like crab. I felt sick for a while after, like a brick was sitting in my stomach. Gross.
Everything else I saw was boring diner-esque food.
Unfortunately, I can't even compliment the waitstaff. It took longer to get our check than it took us to eat and there was an excessively long wait for our food.
In my opinion, the best bar in town for live rock music. Â They usually have a live band Thursday thru Saturdays and some of the acts they bring in are rather good for Stamford, CT. Â The dance floor is open and there's plenty of room. Â The crowd is usually pretty laid back and friendly, which is much different than other local area hangouts like Grand or 84 Park, which tends to attract the meatheads. Â In the summer, they open up the outside and you have an option for the indoor or outdoor setting. Â If you are into darts, the dart board is usually being played at all times, and sometimes they have tournaments going on. Â The bathrooms can be a little bit cramped, but you kind of expect that in a bar. Â Bartenders here are some of the nicest ones in all of Stamford. Â Lots of different beers than you'll find at other bars. Â If you have a bad time here, you probably weren't meant to have fun on that night.
Review Source:Overall a good place. Decent food and beer selection, and staff is great. Best room in downtown for bands, but I wish they would mix it up with the bands a bit, all the bands are all basically playing the same covers on different nights...
If it is is going to be the place downtown for live music they might consider changing the genres up, even a little bit! I mean I think the patrons can handle it, hey they might even like it more!
If I ever move out of the area I will still come back for a Tiernan's Burger! Â The best bar burger I've ever had. Â Menu overall is very impressive, with daily specials, from pub grub to fancy fare.
There are plenty of TVs showing various sports teams and events, along with a good digital jukebox and a few bar games.
The staff is amazingly friendly, even when the place is super crowded (which happens on weekends and for local events.)
I came here with my buddy last night. The place has a good feel to it and the live band is really good. Drinks are reasonably priced and their magic hat is great. The place seemed to be packed with 25 year olds and older seeing as we're both 22 so we didn't feel like we fit with the place.
Review Source:Tiernan's is a pretty fun spot to go for happy hour and into the late night. Inside, it's pretty much your standard pub feel so nothing to really get excited about in that department. They start up the live music later in the evenings and the bartenders are always fast and attentive which makes for a good drinking experience. Also, they serve some good appetizers, including this popcorn shrimp with some sort of spicy dipping sauce that I just can't stop eating. They also have a couple of electronic dart boards and a decent amount of TVs if you're trying to watch the game. Put all of this together and you end up with a fairly decent bar, in my opinion.
Review Source:My girlfriend and I actually went to Tiernan's for brunch and the food was actually pretty good. While it was the first time we had ever eaten brunch at a bar before, we were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. The eggs benedict I ordered was scrumptious, flavorful, and reasonably priced (definitely cheaper than the average eggs benedict in Manhattan). Â As for the overall menu, three out of the four major staples of an American breakfast were offered: egg varieties, pancakes, and french toast. The fact that Tiernan's doesn't offer belgian waffles is a minor quibble.
As for the overall ambiance, the place is nicely decorated (even for a bar) and we had a nice and pleasant brunch because there were hardly any other patrons there. If I happen to be in Stamford again sometime, I would consider going there again for brunch.
