I met up with some friends and had dim sum brunch. The wait was about 5 minutes on a Saturday at 11:30ish. We were seated at a back table, and a cart came around almost immediately. We ate a ridiculous amount of food but the best were the xiao long bao, BBQ pork steam buns, and some shrimp/chive dumplings. I wish I had worn stretchier pants so I could continue eating.

This is probably THE place to go to for Dim Sum. It is very authentic; the staff has carts of various dim sum items and you just choose anything that looks appealing to you. They are constantly walking around, so it never takes long to pick up an item. They make STRONG Mai Tais, so prepare yourself for a good time. The decor/vibe reminded me of Lost in Translation, although that was in Japan, but same cool style.

Since it was the Chinese New Year, a live "band" came in and started playing, and these human-formed Dragons went around dancing to the music and collecting red envelopes from all the tables (filled w money). Whenever they "ate" the red envelope, they would start going crazy and dance all around. SO. MUCH. FUN. Seriously. The Chinese New Year is definitely something everyone should experience at least once.

There are great bubble tea spots all around. Most of them are bubble tea plus bakeries, so if you need sugar, just step next door!

First time here and I was not disappointed. Really good Siu mai. The pork buns were really good as well. I would definitely return. the waitress was nice to us but it was a little hard to communicate.

Hands down the best place for dim sum in Chicago. Large portions, wonderful wait staff and of course excellent food. No matter what time of day there is great dim sum waiting for you.

This is officially my favorite dim sum restaurant.  It's 20% on weekdays.... possibly weekends, I didn't notice because I was there on a Monday.   I've written reviews on this place before and I want to update on one dish there.... the Xiao Long Bao.... which is Shanghai Soup Dumpling.  Yes, it's on their extensive dim sum menu, hidden amongst the other wonderful offerings of hargow, shiu mai, egg rolls, congee, tripe, octopus, chicken feet, rice and noodle dishes.   This trip, I ordered my usual: har gow, (YUMMY), shiu mai (not the best, but it still is fresh),  beef balls (YUMMY), shrimp rolls (YUMMY), as well as spare ribs and chinese sausage over rice (YUMMY), a fried rice dish (SO GOOD.... I can't remember what it was called, but I think it had some sort of salt/pepper fried fish in it) and pan fried potstickers (they were OK, I'd skip them next time).  I ordered a lot, because I planned on taking most of it home because I'm on a dumpling kick.   Now here's the update:   I also ordered XLB (shanghai soup dumplings).   These are a delicious explosion of umami in your mouth....when done right.   These weren't.  I mean, yes, they're soup dumplings filled with porky soupy goodness, but there's no soup spoon, there's no vinegar/onion condiment to go with it.... I picked it up with my chopsticks, held it over my plate, bit a hole in the top, sucked what soup I could get out of it before it dribbled onto my plate, and then gobbled it up.   They just seemed.... je ne sais quoi..... store bought?  ..... because I didn't feel any love coming from these soup dumplings.   They satisfied my urge for XLB, but I still longed for the explosion in my mouth (yah, yah, insert dirty joke here).   These were pretty forgettable and I definitely won't order them next time.   But the dim sum is still most excellent (I didn't get the overly stuffed feeling like I got last time so something or someone changed) and the parking validation still makes it a very affordable trip into Chi-town's Chinatown!

I've never had dim sum before and me and my husband decided to venture out and try something new. I think we ordered too much stuff and although the service was good I would have like a bit more direction from the staff since it was our first time. The food was not bad, good portions, but some of the meats we ordered seemed a little fatty. Unfortunately I don't think I will return.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been to China (Beijing), and this restaurant still has some of the BEST jiaozi (dumplings) that I've ever had in my life. The custard buns, baozi, and fried rice were also tasty. Authentic Chinese food close by? Sign me up!

Also, the waitstaff was really nice. A table cleared right as we were being shown to ours and they moved us to the larger table that fit our group better. The service was prompt. My friend had a really nice conversation with one of the waitresses, asking for her opinion and she gave it. Really nice place with good food.

It's a pretty decent place to have dim sum. I haven't had lunch/dinner here for a very long time, so I do not know how well they do during the late evening. Dim sum ends around 4PM. Most morning dim sum dishes are good. I didn't like their mango roll (dessert). It has a really weird texture. Sometimes we'll get food with some weird taste.... Their shrimp egg roll is pretty good. Their egg yolk buns are good as well.

I went recently on a Saturday around 2. There wasn't line. But sometimes they will get really crowded. So do come early to get a table. I like how this place is a bit more spacy. And they have more variety of food to choose from. That's always good.

Triple Crown has Shanghai soup dumplings! If you know how rare these delicate dumplings of sheer goodness are in Chicago, then you'll be happy to hear that they serve it every day for dim sum. It was just added to their menu a couple of months ago. I have the insider tip from a friend who makes their menus.

Also called xiao long bao, su lum bao, and even XLB dumplings, these are steamed dumplings filled with soup. You bite into them, slurp the soup, and then chew the rest of the dumpling or consume them in one bite. Although not as good as what I have had in New York or San Francisco's Chinatown, these are still definitely worth eating to try something new or for fans of Shanghai soup dumplings. The one catch is that dim sum is only served until 3:00pm which is common.

Triple Crown has great dim sum overall. The dim sum is made to order and you can taste the quality. Their menu has a good variety but doesn't stray too far away of what dim sum should be - no gwai lo dim sum here. For fans of texture, try the noodle crepe with crispy skin. It's a fried egg roll wrapped in a soft wide rice noodle. It's a Chinese version of the Double Decker Taco from Taco Bell.

Triple Crown, triple the flavor. Dau je!

Triple Crown has been here forever!  This place is in the heart of Chinatown.  The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building.  Keep in mind there's no elevator, so it's a bit of a climb...careful of those knees.  But take your time, it's so worth it.

The space is pretty big and wide open.  The place is clean and they have plenty of tables to accommodate any size group.  We had a round table and as our friends slowly trickling in, we just moved over to make space so that they can pull up a chair and enjoy the feast.  I like looking at their menu, all different kinds of Dim Sums that you can choose from.  They also have pictures of what each dim sum looks like and how many you get per order.  Of course we ordered like everything on the menu from seafood to meats!

It's nice to go here with a group so you all can try different dim sums so next time you know what you will order for yourself.

Not only do they have dim sum here, but your typical Chinese dishes and lots of different kinds of big bowl soups to share or a meal for yourself.  Like Ramen noodles, Wonton noodles, different sizes of rice noodles, etc.

If you like the crowds, it does get pretty busy during brunch time on the weekends.  We decided to come here on an early Friday night (typical dinner time 7p) which it wasn't that packed. Your food comes quick and hot, they're pretty good in serving your drinks and water/tea as you walk to your table.

I like the following dim sums, but don't stop there so many to choose from:
    -Shrimp and peapod sprout dumpling
    -Shrimp and Chives Dumpling
    -Steamed Beef Balls
    -Sui Mai (pork and shrimp)
    -Friend Sesame Balls
    -Beef Brisket Crepes
    -Fried egg rolls
Check out with website to view more!
So if I have a craving for dim sum, this is a place to check out!
I'll come back again when I'm in the area!

When the other closed down in Westmont (I think) it was a sad day as I quite liked that place.

This place is presumably related. This is not the best dim sum I've had but for Chicago it's not too bad. They push carts which is rarer these days. Brings back old memories in London where most of the old dim sum places were of this ilk.

The dim sum was pretty good, it was hot which isn't always the case when they have them sitting round for a while and it tasted freshly cooked which is another bonus.

Of the one's I've tried, this is one of the better ones in Chicago.

Dim sum style full throttle with fellow yelpers Chrissy, Tony and Dan at the table. We pretty much had Tony take charge upon ordering. He has a masters degree in dim sum. However Chrissy was there to double check his homework incase we left something out.

We ordered steamed beef balls, steamed roasted pork buns, steamed custard rolls, chicken sticky rice, fried shredded taro rolls, bbq pork turnover, pan fried pot stickers and pan fried sweet potato cake.

The custard rolls reminded me of flan having a baby with a twinkie. Such a magnificent dish. However the steamed roasted pork buns were magic. Seriously doughy, sweet and that slow roast flavor was what sealed the deal!

The prices were rather reasonable and the complimentary tea was perfectly appropiate on this cold afternoon.

Just remember to feed the parking meter, 2 hours goes by quick. Those Chicago meter ninjas are on the prowl.

WORST DINE-IN EXPERIENCE EVER! Would've given zero stars

I came home for the holiday from school, and before the New Year I wanted to treat my friends to a decent meal. I search yelp for somewhere that is pretty good in Chinatown Chicago. Triple Crown happened to pop up, so we decided to try this place. WORST DECISION EVER. It was the New Year Eve and thinking there would be a line, we were pleasantly surprise there isn't (that should've been the warning). When we sat down, our waitress rudely gave us our tea. She didn't even bother looking at us or greeting us. She just dropped the tea in front of us. We assume she didn't speak Chinese since her skin complexion was relatively dark. So we excuse the rudeness. Then she came back to us speaking Chinese, so our previous thoughts were voided. She had the RUDEST tone I have ever heard. I am currently a college student, so I dine out a lot...but in my entire life, I have never heard someone so rude.  We asked how much was the giant lobster, since it was New Year, we decide to eat more grand. She told us it COST way too much for our budget. That wasn't the worst part of the meal. After tell us we were too poor for their seafood, she promptly turned around and walk away without returning. The rest of the meal MIGHT have tasted decent, but her attitude ruined the whole meal. Without asking if we were done with our food or if everything with alright, she just handed our bill to us with a gratuity charge! My friends and I couldn't believe our eyes. If she have given us ANY service, we wouldn't have mind paying for the charge. But she was rude, obnoxious, and disrespectful. The only saving grace is the manager took off the charge after we told him how awful the waitress was. that is the only reason this got a star. What is more hilarious is when we were leaving, the waitress sneered at us.

Bottom line: If you are a student and Chinese AVOID Triple Crown. The food might be  decent, but the service of the waitress is hideous. With staff like that waitress, no wonder there wasn't a line on New Year Eve.

Wow, I haven't had dim sum from a push cart in about 12 years, so I was looong overdue!

A friend invited me to Triple Crown today with her son + friend because it's a favorite of hers.  I'm so glad we went.  There was a really good selection, as well as a double-sided picture menu to order from.  We did have to stop the cart-pushers a few times, because they got a little speedy and we were passed up a time or two.

We had a little trouble with some language barriers at first, like trying to get Sweet and Low and identifying vegetarian-only options (my friend's friend is a vegetarian).  When a server didn't understand what we were asking, they brought over a server who was more fluent in English.  This younger guy was very helpful - he gave us two menus, explained some vegetarian options, took the vegetarian order, located some specific dim sum items at my friend's request, and came back to check on us several times.  He was super friendly and nice, always smiling.  (And, um, it didn't hurt that he was really cute.)

The total bill was $45 for the 4 of us (including the vegetarian meal, a Coke, and hot tea for all of us).  We were so stuffed that we had to take a few pieces as leftovers.

I'm thinking this may have to be a regular dim sum spot..

I went here by accident really and to avoid the cold. Well, I'm extremely happy that I stopped by because this place is yummy!

I am a huge fan of dimsum, and the lady there told me that I still have time for the discount. So nice of her! So, of course, my boyfriend and I ordered to our heart's content.

    We were extremely pleased.

The service was great as well as the food :D

Though I wasn't a fan of one of the dimsums because it was completely new to me (the fried pork dumpling?) However, it was still a very nice experience and gave my boyfriend and I new memories of dimsum.

I highly recommend this place because they serve one of the best dimsums in Chinatown.

Also just a head's up - I rarely give positive ratings for restaurants. This one truly deserved it :D

Dim sum in Chicago Chinatown was a great experience.

My friends and I came to this place for brunch.  I am not a big fan of dim sum, but this place provides great service (compare to other Asian restaurant in Chicatown) and delicious dou-sa bon.

If you want to have a tour in Chicago Chinatown, this place is a great choice.  The waiters and waitresses won't ignore you like other places, and you can get really authentic dim sum.

First time in Chicago and I was honestly a bit worried about Chinatown. I mean, this place is run by the Italian mob, right? Right? Ok. I admit that I was sucked by the stereotypes, but man this place might be better than Manhattan's Chinatown.

First off, don't ever be fooled by kitsch in a Chinese restaurant. Blinking green x-mas lights? Weird nekomata in different shades of ugly? Frayed carpets? These are not things to be afraid of.

    Instead, open your ears.

You hear that? Cantonese people speaking cantonese. Oh mouth, let thyself water at the delightful sound.

What's even better, for those of you who don't know how to order in Chinese "hint, always as for Har Gow" they have this awesome photo menu where you just tick off which dim sum dishes you want and they bring them to you.

Here's what we ordered (with comments):

Har Gow/Shrimp Dumplings: fresh, soft skin. Not the thinnest or most delicate, but freaking delicious.

Shumai (Shrimp & Pork Dumplings): amazing. we took a picture. I made a snarky comment about how I could never be Kosher.

Beef balls: Yea, I know you're worried because it's a Chinese restaurants, but these were balls of steamed beef, not actual balls that once belonged to a bull. They were also fantastic.

Beef trip with Ginger: How is it that Americans don't like tripe? I don't get it. This was soft and not to chewy. So good.

Shrimp Chow Fun: great, again, the noodles aren't as delicate as what I can get in HK but it was the best Dim Sum I've had in months so I'm really not complaining that much.

Char sui bao/Steamed buns filled with BBQ pork: so good. so good. so good. The Bao was sweet and the pork was the best sweet and salty combo.

U-choy with oyster sauce: So, in case you don't know this, basically all Chinese vegetables are different types of cabbage or morphs of the broccoli family. That said this was delicious, fresh and tender.

    2 desserts (oh yea!):

custard tarts: flaky and yummy, as good as you can get in NYC

manga pudding: this is a childhood fav for me and my best friend who hates mangos still thought it was nice.

Oh yea, and did I mention that we got all this for $30 since they give a 20% discount on the weekdays for dimsum until 3pm.

Seriously, this place was da bomb. Dim Sum is usually a morning thing but we were here around 2 when you'd expect the place to be shifting to dinner service, and yet everything still tasted like it was made fresh and to order.

The only downside to ordering off a menu rather than off the usual dimsum carts (I'm assuming they do the carts on the weekends) is that you can't really control what order you receive the dishes. That being said, with everything tasting to good, who cares?

This place drew us in because we were both drunk, it was late at night, and it looked like there were a bunch of people there. Well, not really. They sit everyone by the window so it looks that way by the street! Anyways, I enjoyed my fried tofu and the plum wine I got was great. Also, the servers were nice.

Food was ok.  It was my first Dim Sum experience, the ambiance was getting a little run down and the wait staff seemed to be too busy to even push the carts around.  They actually stood next to our table for 5 minutes talking.

The lotus breads were delicious!!!!  I will be trying somewhere else next time.  I would think that a restaurant with this style of serving would be better at doing it.

Wow for my first trip to China Town, this was the best place my friend could have taken me! We didn't leave until all of us had to be rolled out. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu, including chicken feet! Those didn't get eaten all the way, but I figured it would be worth checking them out! The buns with eggs in them were the best. Slightly sweet, warm buns. Yummy! Those would be perfect for brunch and I must go back to order them again!

The place is huge and the food came out really quickly. Really cheap, you can eat like a king for like $30!

We love dimsum. Line was really long... We waited around 45 minutes for a late brunch on a sunday. Don't come with big crowds or you'll never get to eat. if you're asian, they automatically think you're chinese... we're both Korean. Don't expect good customer service here. BE AGGRESSIVE. Don't be afraid to ask to look at food, the line, the waiting list... If all else fails, ask for the menu with images. No one speaks english here except for the host.

    LOCATION
Chinatown. really convenient, right by the Cermak Stop.

    AMBIENCE
typical chinese restaurant... white tabletops, napkins.... they are very stingy with their side sauces.. .seriously. We asked for hot sauce.. and they gave us a drop. DRIPPY DROP.

    FOOD
We ate more than 8+ dishes here...
Chicken Feet: Jonny loved the chicken feet... best he's had in Chicago. not soggy or overwhelmed, nice and tender. FRESH. Visually not appealing. seriously. not a pretty sight.

Shrimp and Pork Shumai: tender middle. typical.

Steamed Shrimp Balls: good. very very good. Shrimpy. steamed ball of shrimp with the tangy orange duck sauce.

Shrimp and Chive Dumpling: I LOVE THE OUTSIDE. It is so chewy.. makes me think of mochi, almost. Inside is delicious.

BBQ Pork Bun: standard... the dough isn't the greatest.

Rice Crepe with Beef: the sauce that they pour all over it is so so delicious. Make sure to slather it on before eating it. The rice crepe has a wonderful texture.. so soft, so silky.

Fried Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage lup cheong: It was salty... rice was good. we like sticky rice.

Tripple Crown is a decent place but it's age is showing.

Their service was really fast at first but got really slow once we got our food. The food was fairly good and there was quite the variety. I've certainly had better but I've also paid much more. If I could make one recommendation, I'd suggest you overlook the sighs and sounds of the entrance as the dining room upstairs was better than I expected after the first impressions.

Had a mad craving for dim sum so I came here with the fambam over the weekend. This place has some pretty solid dim sum. I've been to Phoenix and Minghin for dim sum and triple crown is up there with the best of them in my opinion.

We came on a Sunday so understandably it was packed with people. Luckily, we didn't have to wait long  - about 10 minutes. The service was pretty good considering it's Chinatown. We had to flag down the occasional cart, but it was all worth it. On the weekends, they push the carts around, but there is also a picture menu that you can order off of if you don't see what you want.

We got the usual spread including:
    -taro puffs
    -turnip cake
    -Chinese crepes with shrimp
    -Chinese crepes with fried dough
    -sticky rice
    -shumai
    -shrimp crystal dumplings (har gow)
-char siu bao (Chinese bbq pork inside pillowy soft bun)
    -congee
-the list goes on and on and on...

Everything was super fresh and came hot to our table. I was very satisfied with everything and left several pounds heavier. There's lots of street parking around here so get your ass to Triple Crown ASAP! :)

I hear they are open til 3am - I think I found my new place for midnight snacks!!

I usually go on the weekend with my family or friends.  This place is okay with me. The food is not too bad, just do not go on a Monday when the food is no longer fresh. It is cheaper, but not FRESH.

I would give it a 5/5, but the service needs improvement

My friends and I came here for dim sum because I heard it's decent and no wait.
Overall, the dim sum was just OK. Edible but doesn't stand out in any way. I thought the dough for most of the dumplings were too dough or thick and not refined enough. Basically, that describes all the dishes we had - the form was there, but execution was just passable.
If you just want to try dim sum this is OK. If you had dim sum in Hong kong don't expect this to be even remotely close to that.

Average Dim Sum, but great that it's served all day!!  Great for Families.  Dinner for 6 Special is PHENOMENAL

I've gone here for both Dim Sum and their regular entrees. For some reason, I don't think their Dim Sum is that spectacular. I do like their dumplings, shumai, and spare pork ribs. What's different about this place is that you have to mark down what Dim Sum you want instead of seeing it pulled out on a cart. There are pros and cons to this. It's not ideal for newcomers or people who are used to the cart-style Dim Sum. The good thing is that it means your Dim Sum is more fresh since it's been cooked to order for you.

There are a number of Chinese-American entrees on the menu, but don't let it hinder you from ordering. My family and I got the Dinner for 6 ( Mongolian Beef and Chinese Broccoli, Fried Fish, Scallops and Shrimp, Crab Special, Roasted Chicken, Sweet Pork) and it was A LOT -- even for six people. It was good for the price ($80)  It was so delicious. The crab is amazing because of how it's seasoned.

I HIGHLY recommend any of the Dinner for 6 or 10 specials! That way you can try a lot with a group of people.

So if you want authentic dim sum or main dish Chinese cuisine look no further. Granted, we're out-of-towners but this place was legit enough to pass our asian dining palettes thanks to growing up in the bay area.

Our Foodie tour started here and I already knew it was legit by the patrons... all chinese! I'd be totally skeptical if this place was filled with non-asian tourists but it wasn't so that should already speak volumes.

All of our dim sum was cooked perfectly and tasted the way they should taste. There was easily over 90 items on the menu and just in case you're not versed in the ways of Dim Sum, there's also a picture menu that you can just point to; or of course just wait to see what's in the wandering waiters carts.

Find your way here if you're from out of town and staying close to the Red line (downtown). Can't miss it... one of the first couple business on the left when entering under Chinatown's gate. I'm sure there's better spots around Chicago but this place is just so convenient. If you even mention Wow Bao locations... GTFOH!

This is my new favorite dim sum restaurant in Chinatown.  Not that I'm an expert but we had a great time.  It's a big hall of a room and we had a group of 15 people, half of which were kids.  We had to put our name in and give them our phone number and wait about an hour walking up and down the street in and out of stores, before we could get two tables together on a recent Sunday afternoon, but it was worth it.

They took good care of the kids who ranged in age from 7-12 years old and nearly everything we got was excellent.  And this included some picky eaters in the group.  I only disliked the taro puffs whose inside dough seemed uncooked.  The sesame chicken was a little too sweet but the kids loved it.  Everything else was great and the list is too long to go through.  We must have tried 10-11 different items.

We were a total of four families and our bill with tip and about $100 of Tsing Tao came out to $70 per family.  Not bad for all we ate and drank.  And they let us linger while we waited out a monsoon as well.  Very good service.  We will be back.

    A-OK.

Came here with my family and we were seated immediately. Service is real prompt. It was not too busy at the time though. The dining room was at about half of capacity.

The food was good. I always enjoy me some dim sum though. And I haven't had dim sum in a while but it tasted good! Some dishes I did not care for but others were gone in a few seconds after hitting the table.

Prices are fair for the amount of food. I would come back for the dim sum again.

This is the worst place I have ever gone in Chinatown as far as customer service! It is expected not to have much service anyway in Chinatown because most places are run like that, people just go for the food rather than service. Anyway, my mom and I went to this place for tea and Dim Sum.

The place was half empty and we wanted to sit by the window. No! They stuck us at a small table against the wall! It did not start well and did not end well for sure! My mom wants her Pu`er tea and I want my Jasmine. We asked to have two different teapots and the waitress/hostess said they cannot give us two teapots. We told her to put a charge on it. She said they ran out of teapot and she cannot accommodate us! Wow! What kind of place is this???? Having tea and Dim Sum is such an enjoyment for Chinese people in the morning~! Why is this place in business???

Needless to say, we left and went to some place else! I will never go back there again!!!!!! You should not either!

To be honest with you all, they do not even deserve a star but I had to give one to put through this review!

Here comes my #1 WORSE REVIEW IN 2012.  HANDS DOWN TO TRIPLE CROWN- YOU SUCK!

Your service was absolutely horrendous.  I am so disappointed that this is the place where I treated my family + friends for lunch on our last day in Chicago.

First of all, it's HOT in there.  When we asked them why there wasn't any air circulation, they responded, "We have AC but it's not on.  We'll let management know," and walked away laughing.  Is this some kind of joke?  We were sweating while we were eating.

Secondly, your siu mai and steam beef ball is disgusting.  Maybe there aren't that many competition out there, but damn we left all that on the table for you.  Who's laughing now?

Their shrimp ball is not fresh.  We were warned by our family friend that this place do not offer fresh seafood, but seriously how can you go wrong with ha gao (shrimp ball)?  That's again- pathetic.

Sure it was 20% off my meal since it was a weekday (Monday), but this place is beyond me.  When I wanted the check, the cashier was too busy texting on her phone so I had to walk my ass up the counter and pay them.  She then, was embarrassed that I caught her on her phone, took my credit card- swiped it then SLAMMED it on the counter and yelled, "THIS IS YOUR COPY, SIGN IT.  THIS IS MY COPY".  Then continue with typing on her phone.  I almost wanted to laugh at her because she'll probably work here forever and her attitude sucks.  I was generous enough to give them a 10% tip because I was about to leave them none.  I have been in the service industry and it's unfortunate a couple staff members can ruin it all for everyone.

At the end I wanted to look for a manager, but I couldn't tolerate the place any longer and walked away.  The funny thing is we left half the food on the table and no one wanted to eat it anymore.  They kept coming to our table offering to box it up for to-go but we said no- all 4 times.  Go figure.

Oh the check for 9 came out to be rougly $130.  Such a waste of money + time to be here.

I was so heartbroken that Happy Chef closed down (heard they lost their lease) and I had to pick up the pieces and drag my feet to Wentworth St. in search of a new dim sum place. I'd heard great things about Triple Crown and any place that serves dim sum ALL DAY and not just Sundays till 2 p.m. is always worth a look.

I was on one of my usual 6 hour roundtrip romps to Chicago and dim sum is always on my list. I hit the Cubs/Brewers game really quickly, bought a t-shirt for a friend and hit the Red Line for a late lunch. The location is so convenient, there really is no excuse not to go.

I jumped the stairs two at a time and was promptly greeted by a younger Chinese man who said something in Chinese, to which I just blink and said "what?" No matter where I go, people think I'm Chinese so maybe one of these days, I should just learn Mandarin and give into their notions. *shrugs*

Anywho, I was seated near a lovely window seat and given a giant picture menu, a cocktail menu, a dinner menu and a lunch menu. Not willing to stray from the task at hand, I promptly marked off the usual four favorites I can't live without:

    shrimp in rice roll
    shrimp in eggplant
    pan fried chive cake
    scallop roll

Each small plate came out instantaneously and the portions were huge! I could barely work my way through the third plate but like a certain Man v. Food hero of mine, I couldn't let food win. The shrimps were definitely abundant in each of the dishes and the staff catered to ever annoying need I had. I definitely need to come here late at night to snag a table near the window and watch the night sky and get my late night dim sum fix on.

Although I've had dumplings before, I guess you could call this my first dim sum experience. And it was nice I could actually try it since it was a bit later in the day and a lot of the places only serve dim sum during certain hours. This place serves it all day. But it didn't come around on the cart which was kind of a bummer. We ordered it from a paper menu, kind of like you do sushi at some places. This being my first time, I'm not sure if I'm just not a dim sum fan, or if this just wasn't so great. So please take that into consideration.

Atmosphere: even though we were in Chinatown, it was mostly a non-Asian crowd. I like when I go to an ethnic restaurant and there are people there of that nationality eating there. I hope that doesn't sound bad, but it's because, I don't like my food "dumbed down" for average Americans. I guess it seemed like a typical Chinese restaurant. There were several tanks for live seafood which is a good sign. Dining room was clean, but the bathroom could have used a once-over.

Onto food. We went there with the intent of having dim sum, so we did. If I went back, I would order off the menu based on others reviews and what I saw everyone else eating. But we tried several things including fried sesame balls, chiu chow dumplings, spare ribs with black bean sauce, stuffed eggplant, fried shrimp and corn dumplings, and lotus buns. Some of the things on their online menu were not available and vice versa. My opinion: anything that was fried seemed really greasy. Most things were doughy and bland. And the spare ribs, although the flavor was good, were very fatty and there were bone fragments throughout the pieces. I really couldn't enjoy without fear of choking. Is this just how dim sum is?

We had hot jasmine tea with our meal which I really enjoyed. Food came out very hot and quickly and the service was fine. The price was great- lunch for 2 was $25

    Triple Crown is AWESOME.

Every now and then I get my dim sum craving. I just need some. I've been here probably 3 times for dim sum in the morning/noon (when they roll their carts around) AND twice for late night munchies.

People of the world, they serve dim sum all day. True story. After their prime dim sum serving time you just have to order off the menu. It's freaking great.

I love both their main dishes and their dim sum. (Dim sum is plural btw)  It's some solid eats in Chinatown. They never let me down. Late night, I love me some salt+pepper baby octopus, maybe some har gow and xiu mai. Also maybe some baby clams with black bean sauce. For about $6 a dish, seriously you CANNOT go wrong. There's something for everyone here. For the less experienced diners of Chinese food, there's like.. shrimp + scrambled eggs somewhere in the menu. (wtf?) but awesome because i can always go here with some picky eaters. Pig out. This is the best way to PIG OUT.

Dim Sum is solid - I've had everything from their spare ribs, to their tripe, chicken feet, and har gow to their xiu mai and rice roll + steamed buns. When I do the dim sum, I do the dim sum all the way :P

I love this place. Open til 3am? This can't be real. But it is. It really is.
