I have been to quite a few United Clubs around the world and this one is still one of the least supplied lounge. There are bagels, frozen yogurt, bananas, orange juice, milk and cereal. There is also a cheap booze station for paid drinks. The lounge is clean and organized or I would give it a one star.
Review Source:All the United Clubs are the same. Â It's a nice area to get away from the hustle and bustle of the gate and there are several advantages to membership. Â The well drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) are complimentary and so are the snacks and wifi. Â There are plenty of seating areas and work stations complete with ports and electrical sockets for you to use. Â
Now, here's the million dollar question. . . is it worth the $50 entry fee? Definitely not. Â If you're a Club member, have passes or are an American Express Platinum or Priority Pass member, then yeah, it's a tranquil place to wait for your flight but I wouldn't pay $50 for it. Â
And here's a note for Priority Pass members who get their membership from financial institutions such as American Express, you won't be able to get in here or any other United Club anywhere. Traditional Priority Pass members are still allowed entry. Â But if you are an American Express Platinum client, just choose United as your airline of choice and your entrance fee will be reimbursed (up to $200).
Three stars for a United Club? Â I never thought I'd live to see the day. Â It has been a few years since I took to the friendly skies as my location pushed me towards AAnother AAirline but now I'm back in the Bay Area United has become my primary air carrier again. Â I'm slowly climbing my way back to having status with them but for now rely on my Priority Pass card and Clear to give me the premium experience.
I found myself with a three hour layover at LAX and made my way to the United Club. Â They have recently expanded membership with Priority Pass and lounges that were previously off limits are now accessible. Â I was expecting the usual Red Carpet Club fare, pretzels, soft drinks and medicore coffee with a pay bar so imagine my surprise and delight when I found that free booze is back. Â I had a Beefeater (not bad for well Gin) and Tonic and loaded up my plate with the standard cheese and crackers.
My iPad automatically connected to the WiFi and I was equally surprised to learn that the WiFi is free and open access, it was also fast enough for me to watch Game of Thrones in HD on HBO GO. Â Nice. Â The other real benefit of being in the lounge is the folks that staff the front desk are generally much more amenable to helping out travelers with change requirements. Â I had to waitlist for an earlier flight and they were able to do some magic and confirm me and clear my upgrade. Â Would never have got that at the gate.
For the longest time United Clubs were places away from the hubbub but a poor imitation of an airport lounge. Â Recent changes are pushing in the right direction but there is still some way to go before they are able to stand scrutiny against the non-US carriers. Â Just spend some time in a SQ, BA or CX lounge and see what I mean.
When are American lounges going to catch-up to the rest of the world? Â UA, wake up and smell the coffee! Â Go and learn why people are willing to pay more for SQ! Â Even old NWA in Asia was better then this dump!
The only good thing is the wifi is first rate and thus saved this dump from a 1 star rating!
I guess I shouldnt complain thou, I did get a free pass from a friend. :-)
I've only been in three United Clubs so maybe I've missed out on the really good or really bad experiences that some others have been through. Â
Had an hour and a half between flights so figured it was worth using the passes I was sent for my credit card. Â It was afternoon so the snacks available were crackers, shortbread cookies, baby carrots with dressing, fruit, goldfish cheese snacks, chocolate covered pretzels, and cheese (pepper jack, cheddar, and monterey jack). Â Drinks include self-serve coffee, tea, and water. Â I didn't bother with the alcohol (not my thing).
It is a pretty big lounge, which was good since it was fairly busy. Â LA Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial (something), and USA Today newspapers along with magazines I've only seen in United Clubs were available to pass the time.
The restroom was clean but smaller than I expected it to be. Â Luckily, the visitors didn't need to go in big bunches.
Not a bad experience since I was using the credit card passes but I couldn't imagine paying actual money for entry.
I find this RCC of UA at LAX is tough to relax here. The place has a lot of passengers, so it's not that quiet. The food and drinks (while complimentary) are sub-par compared with other airlines (especially the international ones). The staff doesn't seem as warm or friendly compared with the international circuit. Sensing a theme here?
Review Source:Like the other United Clubs in the system, the WIFI has gotten much better recently. Â Faster speeds, easier connections. Â
Still not a fan of Smisek, as he really rubs me the wrong way on all the takeoff videos that United shows. Â I wish he would quit bragging about the 787, the food, and his amazing investments in the airline. Â It really is just a bus with wings after all.
United Clubs are at the bottom of the airline lounge food chain. If you're Star Alliance Gold and up and have other options, skipping United doesn't even require a second thought. However, United likes to position all of its international flights out of Terminal 7, so their club is all you've got to work with.
Food: If you're on an evening flight, you have your typical options. Crackers, fruits & veggies, and cheese. You won't find any sandwiches, warm snacks, or anything that could even be considered an appetizer. Deal with it and work with what you've got. I've seen worse.
Drinks: Several standard beers on tap, including the delicious Sierra Nevada. Standard cocktails and drinks are free, but premium ones come with a charge. Most international lounges just have bottles sitting there for you to mix and drink as you like, but unfortunately it's quite restricted here.
Atmosphere: It's quite a huge lounge and seating isn't too hard to find, even when it's packed with customers going on a few 747 flights. It seems renovated, but is still pretty bland. Employees don't look too happy either.
Keep in mind that this review takes into consideration the overall state of United Clubs around the world. If I compared it to any other airline, it would most surely be a 2 at best.
Let me tell you the treatment of 1st class citizens is abysmal, and United just gets worse and worse. Â They went from 'struggling' to 'couldntgivemoreofafuckanymore'. Â I can't reiterate enough how much I hate this airline. I had 1st class tix on an international flight. They wouldn't let me into the lounge with a guest.
The airline also ran out of food (breakfast) when they hit row 5, during the flight! So I didn't even get the meal I paid for!! They threw a bannana at me and hoped it would take the place of the hot option everyone else got. Seriously united, f*ck you. I don't pay $2 grand to be treated like shit.
This lounge is certainly a quiet(er?) place to come relax before a flight. And given the sheer volume of people transiting this place every day, it's relatively clean and well maintained.
The issue I have with this lounge is the selection of food available... A generic offering of bagels, creamcheese, orange juice, and coffee in the morning... mediocre at best. And shrink wrapped blocks of cheese, terrible tasting crackers, and a rather bland assortment of chex mix in the afternoon.
I find it irritating that they would make such a nice environment to relax in, and then cheap out on the food. People pay good money (or miles) for this service, and quite honestly, you are better off staying out of the lounge if you're hungry. If they offered order-able food items like sandwiches, burgers etc., the value would be a lot higher in my opinion.
I'm thankful for these lounges as they offer a break from a busy, loud, and crowded airport. I'm glad I can have some snacks, a drink and a quiet place to get some work done with easy access to a power outlet.
My husband and I stopped in twice while in route to Maui. It was relaxing to take our 3 hour layover in here. This location is a bit smaller than some, especially for LAX. The staff also wasn't the standard I've experience in other UA lounges. I actually had to interrupt a conversation between staff to get them to pay attention and help me.
On tip, you can stop in here for customer service too. I had a flight get canceled and the attendant on the plane suggested stopping in here because I'm a club member and I was able to quickly get rebooked, hotel covered and transportation handled. It made an unplanned stop a little less painful. Although I'd certainly rather had that time back on Maui.
I've been at this lounge many times over the decades and have always enjoyed the somewhat oasis like atmosphere in this crazy bus terminal like United wing. Once we even saw Dr. Ruth Westheimer here. Since the merger of UA with CO, they actually started serving some alcoholic beverages gratis whereas before you had to pay for any. Tonite I actually ordered a "premium" wine, a Malbec. It was $12 a glass! Come on! I was just at SMF where I went to a sports bar at the terminal and got a 9 oz pour for $10 of a great cab. What gives? Yes they have a comp jug wine here but it really leaves much to be desired.
Still since I can I will always hang out here with free wifi and fairly clean toilets.
Cheers!
I only go in here when I have an hour between flights or greater. Â This is your standard US airline airport lounge. Â Â It sounds exclusive and luxurious but the name is misleading: Â its not posh just generic like the flying experience here: Â free drinks, beer & wine, free wifi (i have my own data card so it doesn't matter), munchies. Â The LA Â Lounge TRULY Â needs an upgrade. Â It feels like someone's worn living room. Â Think Holiday Inn lobby/breakfast area with bar. Â Wishing American carriers would get a grip and follow their European and Asian counterparts. Â Whether it's American, United, Delta, US Airways..... the airport lounges in the U.S are just..... Meh.
Review Source:The LAX United red carpet club is probably the worst of those I've visited. Â It is never clean (the floors are filthy) and always packed. Â The food is the usual (breakfast=cereal or mini muffins, lunch=pretzels, cheese and crackers) and the wifi is free. Â United should really upgrade this place and keep it clean.
Review Source:As far as lounges go, this one is pretty decent, especially for being in LAX. Â There's nothing special about the snack selections: same old stuff that's in every United Club. Â Same standard drinks as in any club. Â Would be nice if they had more drinks that were self serve. Â It's nice that they have a little quiet room on the side. Â I have free access through one of my credit cards, but you would be nuts to pay the $50 that they charge to get it.
Review Source:Free wi-fi, free drinks, free snacks and comfortable seats next to power outlets that are accessible. Why wait out in the terminal with the screaming kids and the beep-beep-beep and the nasty bench seats when you can be here in this haven of peace and quiet.
The only thing I don't like is that you can't bring outside food here.
Free wi-fi and all sorts of drinks available, plus we were there in the morning, meaning we were able to have both breakfast and lunch offerings. Â Service was very good.
The downside? Â All of the good tables had various travelers sleeping along the bench sides of them, meaning we were left with a very blinding table next to the window.
I don't know if its unique to United Airlines or if its simply LAX, but this airline staff is the rudest that I have encountered. They don't man their posts for more than a couple minutes at a time before ducking behind an employee only rope to discuss clearly non-work related business. The employees seem very happy and jovial until a customer tries to get their attention. Then they turn into snippy blank faced robots. They act like its terribly inconvenient to help anyone.
I was flying on military orders when I passed though LAX. Before that I had flown two legs with Delta. As I was on emergency leave, my wife was traveling with me on the same orders. Both times I asked Delta to seat my wife and I together and they happily agreed.
When I finally tracked down a United employee that was actually at a station (albeit not the desk for my flight), and asked them if my wife and I could please sit together, I was met with a very curt "No." and a look as if I should carry on and stop ruining the United employee's life.
Again, I'm not sure if it is United, or just LAX, but I fully intend to avoid both in the future.
Wow! Sunshine pours into this club and it feels like sauna! Love it! Love the constant supply of cold water. Whoa! Big bananas! Me likey :)
Friendly staff. Â Easy fast check in and constant replenishment of drinks and crackers and easy access to sweet crunchy apples next to your plush seats.
Tons of power outlets! Yes!
Airport lounges make the traveler's life just a bit easier. Â Living in Hawaii, I am usually passing through LAX at either O-god-thirty in the morning or late in the afternoon. Â Like most red-eye zombies, I need a quite place to drink in some coffee and stay out of the way of the frenzy of the airport.
My main beef with this lounge is that it does not open until 5AM. Â Yes, I *hate* getting up early, but I also hate coming to the airport at 4:30AM for an early morning United flight and not being to use the lounge.
On the plus side, though, the staff there are second to none. Â I had a gentleman on the reservation desk help me tremendously one early morning recently. Â He saved me a lot of travel inconvenience and went out of the way.
I have never found this lounge to be too crowded or to receive bad service.
Usually bustling, but I've never seen it *crowded* so it's easy to find a seat but not a good seat near the windows.
Their bar is crap compared to the Presidents Club, but the area was welcoming as far as lounges go yet still had little nooks and crannies to work, make calls, etc.
We always wind up with the same ticketing agent (he kinda looks like Ronald Regan), and he's very friendly and knowledgeable even when dealing with reservation issues.
Their snack bar is pretty good (a one up from the P Club), and their coffee machine makes surprisingly lattes (I swear!).
LISTEN UP YA'LL, I HAD A 6AM DEPARTURE FROM LAX TO CPH VIA IAD, SO IMAGINE HOW EARLY THOSE HARD WORKING AGENTS AND I WOKE UP!!
OMG, the friendly staff who worked at the lounge really took great care of me! They insured I had plenty of time before my flight and update me when I need updates. The place was in meticulous order, bathrooms were impeccable LOL, view of tarmac, great tea selection, and too much to name!! After having an exceptional experience, I'd love to get access for the RC for future flights :)
My husband and I were heading to the Caribbean for our honeymoon and had to fly from SFO to LAX, we had a great experience at the SFO Red Carpet Club...they were very warm and welcoming.. I mean we are on our honeymoon after all...
We have first class flights all the way to the Caribbean... And I guess we got lucky our first leg and got in and had a nice glass of champagne and snacks... We get to LAX and the ladies at the desk are TOTAL B words... Not nice at all... Very rude and unapologetic...
I hope the rest of United airlines service is better then their red carpet club, otherwise I could see them losing a lot of business secondary to their very rude and unacceptable service...
Nice way to treat people on their honeymoon....
As domestic airport lounges go, this is pretty good. Â It is very spacious and there a lots of different types of accomodations. There are cubicles and well lit tables if you want to work. Â Cafe tables if you want to eat and have a drink and couches and lounge chairs if relaxing is your thing. Â You can get free wi-fi access as well, but you have to make sure the person that checks you in gives you the card with the access code. Â There are also conf. rooms if you need to have a meeting, but you have to reserve that in advance.
There is a full bar but you need drink coupons. Â You also need the drink coupons if you want bottled water (as opposed to the free tap water). Â Even if you dont plan to booze it up, get the coupons because you might want to grab some bottled water at least. Â
For the most part, any meaningful food will cost you like at a restaurant. There are cheese and crackers, some cookies and cereal for free. Â The snack selction is on par with most domestic lounges, but pathetic compared to others overseas.
Overseas, you get massage chairs, shower facilities, places to sleep, full spread of food, some have video game booths. Â Domestic lounges will probably never crack 3 stars, but this one is pretty good.
I arrived at LAX surprisingly early for a flight so I had some time to kill and a One Day Pass in my case so I decided to take advantage of the RCC. Â I've been in the SFO RCC quite a lot (home base) and decor level wise it was quite similar.
What surprised me was the new premium wine and bistro food offerings that are now available in LAX. Â The premium wine list had a French Champagne listed at a price that, while not cheap was what I'd expect if I ordered it at a restaurant, so I decided to try it out. Â Instead of getting the 1 glass that I was expecting I ended up with a 1/2 bottle! Â Quite a surprise. Â The bistro food offerings were also reasonably priced, and tasty. Â
Now I just hope that United will roll this out to their other RCC locations!
I always look forward to spending time at the United Red Carpet Club. Â It means I'm flying overseas so I have mixed feelings about sitting for hours, but there's a lot of options here.
I usually grab a seat, dump my luggage and then order a drink at the bar. Â (Ask for coupons and you usually get 1-2 comp cocktails.) Â There are also snacks galore everywhere and coffee makers. Â My coworker also ordered a grilled sandwich from the menu last time we were there.
Can't wait to go here again.
They recently "enhanced" the snack offerings.
During breakfast hours, they only had yogurt cups and some fruit (oranges, apples, and sometimes bananas) before. Also, some greasy a week-old muffins.
Now they placed a toaster and three different kinds of bread (white, wheat, and raisin). They also added a couple of cereal options, too in addition to the existing yogurt and whole fruit. Â I also noticed a new "fancy" coffee machine, too.
After breakfast hours, they will replace with snack mix servers, baked potato chips, granola bars, etc.
Compared to non-US airlines lounges (e.g., Air New Zealand lounge at Terminal 2), it's still waaaay behind, but I guess it's nice to see they started to enhance slowly... ;p
My husband and I have had the opportunity to relax in several of the business class, red carpet, and first class clubs throughout several domestic and international airports. Â During our last trip, the United Airlines Red Carpet Club has decided to no longer offer their guests individual champagne bottles, however still has a full complimentary liquor bar. Â I was disappointed and had to wait to board the plane for my champagne. Â
The club offers a variety of complimentary pastries and finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, and a soup of the day. Â They also have a variety of great magazines to choose from to pass the time. Â Ultimately, the lounge is a great place to relax before your flight and I highly recommend it if you are waiting for a layover.
So I'm in a commuter marriage and we spend way too much time here, which is both a good and bad thing when you need a place to crash during flight delays but also want to make it home in time for dinner.
This RCC has consistently friendly staff, EXCELLENT customer service agents (Kudos to the talented Global Services agent with the curly auburn hair who has helped me out of a flight delay/cancellation many a time), and constantly changing and replenished snacks.
Ever have one of those traveling days where you just want to Tune Out?
BINGO, this UAL Red Carpet Club, along with the one at SFO, Â just opened their Uber Duber COOL Westin Lounge, which has comfier seats, softer lighting, refreshing fruit H2O, and are designated QUIET zones where you can escape from the blaring plasma tv's, screaming kids, and cell-phone-aholics. It's small, but serves it's purpose!
See you next week RCC LAX!
The Red Carpet Club is great for hanging out while you are waiting for your flight. Â They usually have some food there like fruit, cheese, crackers, cereal, coffee and tea too.
There is also a bar too.
Now I like to hang out here while I am waiting for my bags since it takes so long.
