Decided to try Ursino on a Saturday night without a reservation. Lucky for us, there was 1 table available in the bar area. We were able to order off the same menu as the dining room. The food was delicious! We had the mussels and short rib cavatelli as the appetizers. For dinner, I had the pork and my husband had the duck. The desert was also outstanding.
The service was exceptional also. We will definitely go back. Next time, I'll make a reservation if it's the weekend. We were told most reservations are made 3 weeks in advance. If not, I'll go back during the week to enjoy their food.
The atmosphere is very architechtural and perhaps a bit "cold"; the bar, especially, presents as uninviteing. The food however, ROCKS! The service was prompt and attentive without hanging on the table and their menu advice also helpful.
I will definately return as I'm a true blue foodie.
BTW: a bit of a trick finding the place, as it is on the Kean University campus behind the science building
Was excited to check out Ursino for my birthday last month. Experience could not have been better -- wonderfully inventive food, beautiful setting, attentive and knowledgeable servers who seemed eager to make the experience top-notch. Interesting selection of craft beers and wines by the glass. Looking forward to their "tour and dine" event when it returns this summer.
Review Source:Don't eat at EWR airport, this is a convenient oasis not far from Newark. The bar is situated so you have an expansive view out the wall of glass.
Chestnut agnolotti was perfectly prepared. The mushroom sausage pizza came with a haystack pile of lemony baby arugula. Excellent also.
Avoid the red blend X, had off bouquet and finish.
My boyfriend had a great date night here. The decor and menu was modern and fresh. We started with the cavatelli with short rib. It was rich enough to share even though we split it. I got the sea bass and loved the smoky flavor of the egglant and the texture of the oyster mushrooms. My boyfriend got the duck and loved it. Â My favorite part was the bread pudding for dessert, which was complimented by the cassis sauce and brown sugar gelato. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:Serviced failed in the worst way. Â We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. Â When we made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occassion....Yes I said. Â When they called to confirm, they asked about the celebration...wife's birthday. Â That is why we came on a cold Wednesday. Â No one else was here. Â
Sadly we ordered our desserts...waited a long time...desserts came...no candle...no recognition. Â When I pointed this out they didn't seem to care, even though they were just standing around...no one here. Â The worst was the sour maitre d...he wouldn't even look us in the eye or apologize.
This is the type of restaurant that you go to for special occassions...how can they mess up such a simple thing and not even try to do anyting to make it special.
To bad since both our main courses...fish, were very good. Â Bread was light and tasty. Â Desserts were also very good. Â They just didn't deliver on their promise and it ruined our evening. I wonder why they don't care?
I have been to Ursino twice. Â First to check it out for my birthday party and again for the party itself. Â We book the private room that is good for about a dozen people and it worked out very well for us.
The restaurant is very well decorated, nice and upscale but not ostentatious. Â Food is very good as well. The entries we had ranged from pretty good to excellent and all of them had that fresh ingredients feel to them. Â I find that there are not too many restaurants in NJ that will "compete" with the quality of restaurants in the City, but Ursino is one of them.
I was there twice in December. Â Once with my husband for dinner on a Friday night at 7 and another was lunch for 10 with colleagues from work. Â The dinner was excellent. Â The room was dead at 7 which is a bit of a downer for such a nice meal. Â The place filled up to about half full by the time we finish. Â Maybe 7 is just too early for dinner. Â The prices are very fair for fine dining. Â We started off with a very good selection of bread and a glass of champagne for me. Â My husband and I each had an appetizer (scallops for him and the onion soup for me) both were cooked perfectly and delicious. Â My soup in particular was inventive and served with a flair. Â The entrees were equally fantastic. Â The wait staff can use a little more knowledge but they make up with earnest desire to please. Â
For lunch we were arranged at a long rectangular table with one side on banquette. Â That's a bad arrangement to slide in or to serve. Â I was really disappointed with the seating because conversation was very difficult. Â I understand a large party presents a problem but I wish the front of the house made suggestions regarding seating. Â I would have been happy to sit upstairs in the bar area. Â I ordered chicken for lunch. The sides were great but the chicken itself was ordinary. Â
I will definitely be back.
I haven't personally dined here. It was my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. I called to make reservations and pre-picked menu items so that everything would be set up when they got there. I spoke to the host who was super helpful and nice and had the manager contact me. I told him exactly what I wanted them to have, food and wine, told him what the occasion were and he promised me that he would take care of my parents. My parents went and had a great time. They said the service was phenomenal and the food was great. They especially favored the foie gras. I called a few days later and the host knew exactly who I was and even told me that my parents had a great time. I can't thank the staff enough for such phenomenal service especially when everything was done over the phone. It was easy and worry-free. I can't wait to come here myself!
Here is a list of what I picked out for my parents:
Smoked swordfish
Fire and ice oysters
Foie gras
Steak
Duck
Bread pudding for 2
Treated to a fabulous dinner for a birthday celebration at this surprising restaurant. Opted for 3 appetizers which had a connected theme: a delicious onion-apple soup, poured tableside over two tiny grilled cheese sandwiches and apple foam (though stem on tiny cherry seemed a strange inclusion); yummy and beautiful beet salad with candied walnuts and a sheet of dehydrated apple paper; and incredible seared scallops with a delicious cream and tiny pieces of apple. Celebrating spouse thought Cod with chorizo might have been one of favorite dishes ever. Table adored the sweet and salty pumpkin bread pudding (4 easily satisfied by dish advertised for 2).
Tips and notes: Valet parking at dinner. There's a private room for 10-12 that would be fabulous for a small party. Restaurant is downstairs from main entry and bar level, with a large curving staircase to access (elevator also available). One unisex bathroom across from entry station or apparently outside downstairs level restaurant in University building (not accessible when we were there due to ongoing private party). Service was lovely, professional, and timely.
The decor is upscale and modern. The hostess was friendly. Parking, at lunch, was a big problem. All the spaces reserved for Ursino at 12 noon were already full. My companion asked a question about the type of sauce that a pasta was served in. The answer: "Not any type of sauce, I think. I don't know. It's just plain. Nothing special." Thank you for that wonderful description. The food was wonderful. However, I have truly never seen such small portions in my life. My friend's pasta dish was so small that I didn't want to try any since she would have had nothing left. I'm not a big eater but if we didn't order desert, we would have left hungry. The service was confused, awkward, and slow. Two separate people came over to explain what was on our desert plate. I think they gave different explanations. The positives: nicely decorated, with well prepared and fresh food. The negatives: no parking, amateurish (but not unfriendly) service, and hideously small portions. Many other New Jersey restaurants provide food that is just as good, but with reasonably sized portions and more professional service. I wouldn't go back.
Review Source:This is a wonderful restaurant, and on the campus of Kean University.  The service was very friendly.  The food was very well prepared, the ingredients were very fresh and  presented in a colorful and inviting manner.  The place is also beautiful with large windows looking out into a beautiful lawn and trees.  The only knock I had is that it takes a tad long for everything to come out from the bar and the kitchen.  For the bar, i thought it was because the bar is on the top floor and the dining room is on the lower floor.  Still loved it and going back.  Their cocktails are very inventive although the pumpkin puree drink was a little odd.
Review Source:What a special find is Ursino! Â The location is unusual...in the middle of the college campus, but our server said that the company that owns the restaurant also manages the university's food service (so that makes sense). It's a beautiful room. Â Very large bar upstairs and then nice number of tables down the spiral staircase (there's also an elevator). Â Lunch wasn't crowded so the noise level was very manageable. Â Our entrees were excellent (one person ordered the turkey sandwich and the other two ordered a pasta with eggplant, tomatoes and olives). Â Everyone loved their food but there was way too much for lunch (for us). Â We decided to share two desserts and they were equally creative and excellent (lemon ice cream sandwich and deconstructed sangria). Â The blueberry souffle sounded excellent but they need 40 minutes to prepare. Â Our server was attentive and made sure our sodas and waters were regularly refreshed. Â We had a time constraint and she made sure we met it (and still managed to eat dessert). Â I'd love to come back again!
Review Source:The food at Ursino is excellent. It has a creative, but not off-puttingly so, menu and everything we had was done well, came together as a whole and was very tasty. The appetizers (smoked sword fish and tempura style soft shell crab for us) were a bit superior to the main course (glazed short rib, which tasty was a bit too glazed and heavy  -  the only error of the night on the plate, and halibut)
Yes the room is impressive but I am not totally sold on it. The noise level as it filled was high. The huge windows created a major problem with the sun as it was going down (choose your table carefully if you are going to be there at a time the sun is going down).
To match the level of the food the service definitely needs work. There was a harsh and sloppy edge to the staff. I do not need to see workers slouching against the wall, looking bored, when not in motion. The order was taken and the table later cleared abruptly. And on several occasions I was faced with a servers rear end in my face as the table on either side of us was served or cleared. We did not have the delays others have spoken of.
It is a bit strange to have a restaurant like this in the middle of a college campus (it has nothing to do with the college). But we would definitely return and enjoyed the night. If they fixed the service issues they could be worthy of a 5.
Went to Ursino last night with some friends and was thoroughly impressed. The place was beautiful and had an amazing ambvience. The staff was courteous, helpful, and friendly. The service was impeccable. But the food was the star of the show. We all tried each others food and every dish was outstanding. The flavors seemed to have been mixed together so thoughtfully that they blended into perfection in every bite. Even the salad blew me away. The duck with rice was out of this world, mushroom pizza fantastic, and the desserts such as the bread pudding and banana ice cream was to die for. I was still dreaming about the food today. Absolutely delicious. I can not wait to go back. Great job Ursino!!
Review Source:After only one visit I can say with some assurance that Ursino is one of the best restaurants in NJ. Â The food is inventive with impeccable ingredients and expertly prepared. Â The decor is different and interesting although the 2 story set up is a little awkward. Â
Peter is a great chef. Â everything that we had was good, not a single clunker. Â
Very nice bar area which would be wonderful for meeting for a drink before another engagement - but what other engagement! Â This is the only problem - the location. Â While it is in the middle of densely populated Union, it is still in the middle of nowhere. Â Making the restaurant a total destination place.
As good as it is I regret to speculate that it is not likely to last too long. too bad
I'm really sad I am writing this review, I really wanted to love Ursino - but I didn't. I love the concept of farm to table, the decor is unique and refreshing and the selections seem interesting and eclectic; seems like it should have been a home run on paper, but it wasn't.
It all started with a call I placed to let them know that my party would be running a few minutes late. I figured most places would appreciate a party updating them about this kind of information, but the woman who picked up the phone seemed to give me a 'so what' attitude over the phone.
We arrived, about 10 minutes late for our reservation and were told that our table wasn't ready yet and were asked if we minded sitting in the bar area while our table was prepared. We shrugged it off and as we noticed how beautiful the decor was, we took it as a nice opportunity to check out the bar area.
We stood at the (not busy) bar for a few minutes while the bartenders were going about their business and didn't so much as look up at us to tell us they would be with us in a moment - so we decided to sit down and see we would have more luck that way. A gentleman came over about 5 minutes later with cocktail menus. We placed our orders.... another 5 minutes later..... and then waited, and waited and... WAITED. Finally about 15-20 minutes into the ordeal a waitress was coming over with our drinks while the hostess was telling us that our table was finally ready.
We were escorted downstairs to the dining area and served our drinks. About 10 minutes later the waiter came over and gave us our menus. We looked them over, and over.. and over while we were waiting. In the meantime, we were served some bread with butter and a very good hummus like spread. When the waiter finally showed up again he was going to only take our order for starters but there was no way we were going to let him disappear again without taking our order for main dishes as well.
My friend and I had both decided on the short rib entree, to which we were notified that they were out of. Fine, that understandably happens but I wish that I had been told that when you gave me my menu 20 minutes ago! As the waiter hovered over me waiting for me to make a hurried second choice, I asked for his suggestion of a favorite dish on the menu. What was his answer? The short rib. Really, guy?! You just told me you're out of it and you suggest it as the best dish on the menu.
Our food finally came, after more delay of course, and I have to say that the Blue Fin Tuna was delicious! It was cooked and seasoned perfectly! We also got the Gnocchi, which was good, but not the best i've ever had.
On to entrees; we got the Cod, Halibut and Papperdalle. Meh. Nothing great to report.
For dessert we tried the Bread Pudding which was not only good but presented very nicely as well.
It seemed that the secondary waitstaff who was serving the food and replenishing the drinks were more knowledgeable and happy to give suggestions than our waiter. We had very good Long Island Cosmos as per the suggestion of a sweet waitress who seemed to have a great deal of knowledge about both the drink and food menus.
In total, we spent almost 3 1/2 hours at Ursino for a sub-par meal and pretty bad service. Needless to say, I don't think i'll be returning any time soon.
This is a dreamy place. We just love it for any occasion and cant seem to get enough of it. It hits a lot of interesting points. Its so beautiful and comfortable you dont want to leave. Its spaced really nicely and has all kinds of nooks and crannies that make a place interesting and cozy. "farm to table' is such a wonderful food concept and tis executed here with incredible skill and passion. Menu: Lobster bisque with a luscious foam; handmade cavatelli with shortrib and sugar pumpkin was outrageously delicious; a Lancaster roast chicken with crunchy little roast potatoes was perfection and what the classic roast chicken is supposed to taste like full of flavor and crispiness. We were offered drip or espresso and the drip was the best coffee I have had outside of my own house in decades. It was deep rich and smooth and perfect drip. The desserts were decadent confections an apple dish on a farina cake and a chocolate fondant composition that was rich decadent and more than generous. menu on the website. what a great place.
Review Source:My husband attends Kean University and really wanted to try Ursino. Â We decided to go on Valentines Day to enjoy their 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing. Â I have to say that the food was fabulous. Â I am not a wine drinker but I really noticed the flavor notes that were highlighted by the staff. Â We enjoyed every course. Â The only downside was the service. Â It was a slow to a point that the manger noticed and came to our table to apologize. Â We were aware that this was a noted negative and did notice an improvement with the other courses.
Review Source:I had recently had dinner at Ursino and I was compelled to share my experience. Â I will start with the positive. Â The restaurant is beautiful. Â It is decorated nicely, very modern and clean. Â The farm fresh food was a nice surprise in an unexpected location. Â I was with a party of seven for a birthday. Â Everybody enjoyed their meals. Â I hear the prime rib was excellent, as was the salmon. Â All of the salads and appetizers were delicious. Â
As for the negatives, there were many delays in service. Â We did not see our server nearly as much as we should have. Â When we finished a bottle of wine, we were never offered more drinks. Â They kept our water glasses full, but that's about it. Â We were seated at 8pm and we didn't leave until 12 am. Â We had a great time regardless but the time between dishes was far too long. Â Early in the evening I asked the server to put a candle in the dessert for my sisters birthday and she completely forgot. Â Right before the desserts arrived the hostess walked up to our table and told us that someone named Marc would like to by our next round. Â We weren't sure who Marc was, we thought maybe a chef a few of of our friends had met last time they ate there. Â We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. Â At the end of the night when the check came the bottle was on the bill. Â When we asked about this they gave us some strange excuse that Marc, whoever he is, did not mean for the round to go to our table and he took off before paying for it. Â We, as a result, were stuck fitting the bill. Â I don't care what mistake was made or who made it, the bottle should have been covered by the restaurant. Â It seems a $45 bottle of wine is worth more to them than 7 new customers. Â We will not be returning.
I had the pleasure of dining at Ursino in late December and every aspect of the experience was nothing short of great. Â A rating of 5 stars here is well deserved.
We started off at the bar upstairs and I had the pork slap pale ale (draft) which I had never seen before and was very good. Â My girlfriend had the fig fusion cocktail which was really tasty. Â After the rest of our party arrived we were seated and got a good look at the entire place -- very unique and artistic decor throughout, quite clear that close attention was paid to every detail. Â Really liked the blueprint wall design in the main dining area. Â Got a good look at the kitchen and was very impressed by how spotless and efficiently-run it was.
For first courses we tried the oysters, the cheese & salumi plate, the cavatelli, and the pork belly. Â All four were exceptional and well-portioned, with highlights including the oven-roasted oysters (superb creamy texture and refined flavors), the cavatelli (delicate, handmade pasta), and of course the cider braised pork belly.
Our mains were the scallops, the cod, the duck breast, and the steak. Â The scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, accompanied by a sweet but light carrot sauce and a salad with pickled vegetables that provided a great acidic accompaniment to the scallops. Â The cod was sublime; moist, perfectly flaky, and well-seasoned, with the butter sauce tying the whole dish together (great butternut squash puree' too). Â The steak was perfectly rare, pretty sure it was sourced locally and grass-fed -- lean and delicious. Â The duck was, yes you guessed it, perfectly cooked and resting on top of an amazing savory bread pudding.
We opted to get wine by the glass, of which my favorites were the zin and the cab (especially w/ the steak). Â Even though we were quite full, we couldn't resist the dessert menu and some rose' wine. Â Highlights included the butter popcorn ice cream and, above all, the chocolate souffle' cake, which was the best I've ever had.
All in all it was an outstanding dining experience that I will recommend to everyone I know, as the quality of the ingredients and meticulous execution in the kitchen are on par with the finest NYC restaurants, while the pricing is quite reasonable (nothing on the menu is over $30). Â Ursino's farm-to-table concept shows a genuine commitment to using fresh, local, organic ingredients that I found very appealing and not at all contrived. Â The service was excellent as well -- the entire staff was friendly and attentive. Â I hope this new restaurant is successful and becomes recognized as one of the area's finest establishments for years to come.
Second time at this new farm-to-table restaurant located in the STEM Building at Kean Univ.  I didn't think it could happen, but the second time was even better than the first!  I had the fig fusion cocktail to start and it was out of this world!  Our party was seated in the wine room - small room off to the side with complete privacy.  My salsify soup was a wonderful surprise.  It was smooth and creamy with a hazelnut creme fraiche and frizzled salsify.  I thought I had died and gone to heaven and my main course hadn't even arrived yet.  I had originally wanted the scallop entree but they were out so I decided on the cod.  It was perfectly cooked and beautifully browned on the top. The waiter poured a butter sauce over the top and I dug in.  The fish was so fresh and light, one of the best I've ever had.  It was accompanied by a butternut squash purée, mushrooms and pea tendrils. Although I went in not wanting to order dessert, the waitress announced the special of the evening:  chocolate croissant bread pudding!  I couldn't resist.  It came with a white chocolate ice cream and a mint almond pesto.  I thought it would be overly sweet, but they must have used a dark chocolate because it wasn't really all that sweet. Very enjoyable dessert. If you get a chance to get to this restaurant, do it...you won't regret it!
Review Source:Not sure what to say about Ursino. We were there for the first time last night and were totally overwhelmed by the decor and atmosphere. Â The place is sophisticated and absolutely stunning. Â Flooring, lighting, furnishings, wall coverings... Â this place was designed with meticulous care and apparently at great expense.
But enough about the furniture.  Lets talk about what you go to a restaurant for.  The food!  The menu is eclectic and  creative.  Everything is locally grown and fresh.  If you like to experiment with new and unusual dishes you should definitely come here.  We started with the Plate of Local Artisanal Cheese and Charcuterie.  Plenty to eat and an excellent selection of cheeses, meat and veggies.  The string beans pickled in vinegar and cloves was awesome.  Main course was Pan Seared Barnegat Sea Scallops perfectly prepared and sauteed with just the right amount of seasoning.  Very filling and satisfying.  We didn't order dessert but everything looked amazing so we will definitely go back just to sample some of the desserts.
The wait staff was outstanding. Knowledgeable, professional, friendly and understandably proud to be working at such a fine establishment.
Ursino is an absolute gem and a wonderful escape from the plethora of mediocre Italian restaurants that seem to breed like rabbits all over northern New Jersey. Â I truly hope this place grows and prospers.
I had the pleasure of dining at this relatively new restaurant on New Year's Eve. Â While a mouthwatering prix fixe menu was offered, I opted to order a la carte since it was my first time there. Â Everyone at our table ordered a different appetizer and main course, so we all had the opportunity to try a lot off the main menu. Â Everything I ate was incredible. Â The food, quality, presentation, ambiance, and service more than exceeded my expectations. Â Overall, the whole experience was delightful and impressive. Â Also noteworthy and very important is the farm to table concept, which is unique and makes this a stand out restaurant in New Jersey. Â My compliments to the chef and entire staff. Â You can tell a lot of care is going into every plate that comes out of the kitchen. Â It will be interesting to see how the menu changes each season, based on what is available locally and on their very own farm. Â I look forward to returning here soon.
Review Source:I've never written a review of a restaurant before, but my experience was so bad at Ursino, that I felt compelled to write a review. First of all, we waited 15-20 minutes for our table, only to see that when we we were finally seated, there were about 4 or 5 empty tables. Then after 5 minutes at our table, we had to ask for our menus. When we were ready to order, we were told that they ran out of 3 items on the menu, so we had to look at the menu again (they should have told us upon being seated which items they ran out of). My spouse and I ordered 1 appetizer and 1 entree each. We waited at least 30 minutes for our food. And when the food finally came out, they got my order wrong, so i had to wait even longer for my appetizer. Additionally, my husband had to ask for his second glass of wine twice. The only positive thing about our night was the food. I really liked the short rib/cavatelli appetizer. It was very delicate and tasty. My scallop entree was also good and my husband enjoyed his duck entree. One other thing to note is that this man (a manager, perhaps?) kept awkwardly walking around looking at all the tables, but never once did he check in with us. Overall, I think they really need to get their stuff together, otherwise I don't foresee this place lasting long. Their service, if not improved, will be their demise. It seems none of the employees are communicating with each other and their lack of training/experience is so evident. I would give 4 stars for food, but 1 star for service, resulting in 2 stars for the overall experience.
Review Source:This place is cool. Â You won't find anything like it in NJ. Â The setting, decor and atmosphere are contemporary and chic but still comfortable.
The menus focus on farm-to-table is immediately apparent, but not contrived. Â The offerings have something for everyone. Â Fire and ice oysters were a winner. Â The raw were very good, but the cooked were truly delicious and special. Â The mushroom risotto with truffle foam was tasty, but I prefer my risotto not quite as creamy, and the foam was a bit overdone. Â "Duality of lamb" was a winner- both preparations were well executed and delicious. Â I tasted the scallop entree ordered by my buddy and it was unique, cooked spot-on, and will probably be my entree next time. Â My wife had the short-ribs. Â Hearty and yummy.
Why not five stars? Â We waited 45 mins for our entrees. Â The waitstaff was nice and attentive, but the wait was unacceptable. This place needs to step up their game so as not to squander the great elements they have to offer. Â Will definitely be back.
Fresh, clean, creative food. Â The perfectly dressed Autumn Leaves salad was as fresh as it gets. Â I have never tasted lettuce like this...seriously. Â The local salami on the charcuterie was meaty, delicious and not oversalted (I stole a piece off husband's plate). Â Sirloin cooked perfectly over green tomato puree, zesty and balanced out the perfectly grilled flavor of the sirloin. Â The carrot sauce with the plump crispy scallops was so good I could have eaten it with a spoon. Â Cappucinos and dessert are not to be missed, we had souffle due and creme brulee. Â Â Servers are attentive and sweet, I suspect there are a few students on the staff which is good. Â This place is the real deal and not overpriced for local food which as we all know is more expensive. Â Open for lunch and someone told me the burger and fries are the best he ever had. Â Craving the food since I ate here.
Review Source:Now if you live within 40 minutes of the place and you don't come to try it out, you're missing the boat. This place is legit if you're a foodie. The menu is simple yet creative, and all the food is local... I'm talking farm in the back local. There drinks are just as artistic as their food, bringing back old prohibition style cocktails. For an app I got the pork belly. Salty, fatty, and porky braised in cider, this was a home run. paired with an endive and celery "Slaw" with an apple curry reduction. Throw a cornflake crisp on top for texture and the flavors blend magically.
For my main I got "The duality of lamb" Braised shoulder (Which had the consistency of pulled pork) Â and roasted loin (Which was cooked perfectly) served on top of a white beans and kale.
Dessert is 5 stars I had the eggnog creme brulee that was on point. My wives souffle was the winner of the evening. I don't even like chocolate (I know it's a sin) but I actually tried and enjoyed it. There were 2. One chocolate and one Iced hazelnut souffle with a shot of vanilla. Worth it.
Only cons I have with place is the location, located in the back of a Kean University building. If you enjoy creative food that won't be a problem. It's almost impossible not to enjoy the culinary creations here.
Absolutely amazing experience. Â The ambiance is gorgeous, service is impeccable, and the food, oh where do I begin...I came here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Â Starting with lunch, we ordered the Grass Fed burger for lunch with french fries and spinach salad with grilled chicken, the burger was amazingly good, you can actually taste the beef, and the french fries remind me of pomme frites in Brussels, Belgium. Â When we came back the second time for dinner, I had the jail island salmon with tomato fennel broth, this is among best salmon I've ever tasted, the fish was so delicately cooked and the sauce is an amazing compliment. The short ribs with horseradish popover was succulent. Â Be sure to save room for desserts. Â we ordered the baked nebraska, it has truffle oil and fresh corn ice cream, wow, like a party in my mouth. Â what a creative dessert. Â I can't wait to come back to try the rest of the items on the menu. Â Two thumbs up!!! Â This restaurant saves me a trip from having to go to NYC. Â with the $12 toll price, I much rather splurge it here for a good cocktail or dessert.
Review Source:Lots of choices for everyone. A wide variety to choose from on the starters lets you sample a little bit of everything they have to offer to get your feet wet. For a vegetarian like myself, I was able to leave satisfied from the seasonal fig cosmo to the hearty handmade cavatelli with sugar pumpkin and the stellar barnegat sea scallops with sunchokes and sweet carrot sauce that literally roll off of the tongue. If you like creme brulee, do break for the pumpkin selection here with maple creme fraiche ice cream and an apple tart tatin to get the warm autumn evening summed up. Everything is fresh and local. Â . .
