Went back for a second visit and was sorely disappointed. Ordered 1/2 chicken, yellow rice and veggies (cabbage, carrots and potatoes). The chicken was BONE dry..I mean inedible. I shared this with the waitress? owner? Â and asked if it was possible to get another piece..she said, " no, it's the half and that's how we cut it..." Ummm, okay...after staring at my dried up piece of poulet for about 10 minutes I tried again...told her that i really thought the chicken was inedible...not even an acknowledgment that she heard me--wtf????? Veggies were waaaay over salted (and I LOVE salt) and the rice was okay. Asked for water and was told to get a bottle from the cooler, i asked again and indicating that tap was fine and she bought it to me but very reluctantly. No more second chances for this spot. If others experience this horrific service and mediocre food, I'm beating the spot will be closed in less than a year.

and type in the Resturant's name and you will find the menu. Â But technically the menu is like any BBQ Resturant. Half a chicken whole chicken bla bla. You can tell by the seasoning and quality which will help you determine what's good. Try for your self.
Huge Portions, Great Service, and REAL PORTUGUESE FOOD 5 min away!
An awesome portuguese restaurant located 10 min away from school, Valley Portuguese BBQ offers most foods portuguese restaurants offer in Newark. Â
The best part is, you don't have to go to Newark!
I had a half chicken and rib platter. Â I was expecting a small plate, since portuguese food is usually expensive. Â But not here! Â The Half looked more like a Whole. Â The Chicken and Ribs were serve on a bed of Yellow rice with a side of crisp french fries. Â
Craving some delicious food? Â I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is trying to get their Portuguese fill. Â Eat at Valley Portuguese Now!
Amazing addition to the South Orange lunch lineup. Â I work nearby and had grown sick of the vast but mediocre selection. Â Enter Valley Portuguese. Â The food is inexpensive but flavorful and DELICIOUS. Â Garlic chicken, the pork cubes, the sandwiches, are all great.
Good hearty portions, home-cooked taste and just really hits the spot. Â Also dining area is surprisingly comfortable and clean and the open kitchen should put diners at ease as you can see its clean and well run. Â All in all this place is pretty great.
Came to lunch here with a few of my colleagues. Â We got our order to go since we were still on the clock, so we didn't stay. Â But the place was clean and inviting. Â I ordered a full serving of the BBQ Charcoal Chicken with one of my colleagues to share; we chose the rice and beans over the fries. Â As soon as we placed the order, the two guys behind the counter started to work. Â With a laid back efficiency, they spooned the rice out of a huge, freshly made, steaming pot of yellow rice, with hints of carrots and peas, sitting heavy a-top a fantastically large gas stove. Â The beans were scooped out of an equally oversized pot and spread over the rice in a large aluminum pan (this was the first clue to how generous the portions were going to be). Â Once the rice and beans were set, one of the men stuck a pair of tongs into what seemed to be a deep trough from which perfectly made meats emanated; out of it came our chicken, smoking hot and dripping with juices. Â It was immediately chopped into portions, based on the different kinds of meat it contained (dark and white) and set in the pan with the rice and beans. Â It was covered, placed in a bag and handed to us for our journey back to the office. Â When we opened it at work, it was still steaming and smelled delicious. Â We served it out of the tray like a buffet, which seemed to add to the casual, festive experience. Â The rice and beans were excellent; The rice was perfectly cooked (soft, but not mushy) and the beans were firm, deftly avoiding breadiness. Â The chicken was fantastic; the meat was juicy (even the breast) and the skin was just how I like it, not too flabby and not too crunchy. Â Although the seasoning for both the chicken and the rice was a bit on the salty side, it was absolutely tasty. Â We were all pleased at work and plan on making weekly trips to Valley Portuguese BBQ. Â A superb experience!
