Pretty good brunch food served all day.
Line can go out the door on the weekend - was there on Sunday at around 2-3pm once and line was still out the door. But it moves pretty quickly. I think being a party of 2 helped a little.
Service is good. My coffee was constantly refilled. Food comes fast once you sit down.
Food is pretty good. I think I always fall into a trap of ordering more than I can eat. The portions are pretty big! Apple pancakes is really a dessert imo. Really really over the top sweet. I'm personally not a fan since I don't like very sweet things, but bf seemed to enjoy it a lot. Â
The pancakes are pretty good, too, but I'll have to remember to try them on their own some time since whatever savory item I get always comes first, and I'm full when I'm trying to overstuff myself with pancakes.
I really like their savory items more, though I don't know if I'm in the minority. Venetian benedict. SO GOOD. Oh, and corned beef hash - always a must. Nothing has disappointed me yet, except maybe the apple pancake :/
Simply perfect! Â I have been going here my whole life and it never disappoints.
I went here last Sunday at 1:00 pm, and the brunch crowd was definitely in full force. Â The line was out the door, but my mom and I were seated in 20 minutes, it is nice they move so quickly.
Immediately our drink orders were taken and unlimited coffee appeared. Â I ordered banana pancakes and bacon. Â The food was out within 10 minutes, and it was delicious! Â The pancakes were hot, soft, chewy, filled with bananas and topped with an orange Suzette sauce, whipped butter, and tons of powdered sugar. Â The bacon was thick, flavorful, and the perfect balance to my sweet dish. Â I had enough enough for leftovers, and then next day the pancakes were just as delicious!
Their prices, menu selection, food, and service cannot be beat!
Absolutely the best breakfast ever. Â The omelets are outstanding, the pancakes are melt in your mouth delicious and the hash browns with habanero cheese and pico de gallo are an exciting addition. Â The apple pancake is something you should get to share with your entire group. Â On top of all of the wonderful food, the management and staff are extremely attentive and truly care that your experience is amazing.
Review Source:The line and the wait time is a bit long, but it's worth it. Kenny O. and I ordered the blue crab meat egg benedict with 3 buttermilk pancakes, a side of corn beef hash, and a side of spicy habanero cheese & pico de gallo hashbrowns to share. Everything was yummy!
I loved the egg benedict. The egg and the crab meat were cooked just right, and I loved the caper garnishes as well. The side of pancakes that came with this order were nice and fluffy. One of the best pancakes I've had, and I'm glad too, because pancakes are what they're known for.
The corn beef hash is the best I've ever had it. I don't know exactly what makes it the best (as I've only had it maybe once or twice before this visit), but it was really good. I liked the texture of the meat and the potatoes.
I love pico de gallo, and I love spicy hashbrowns so the spicy habanero cheese and the pico de gallo on crispy hashbrowns sounded perfect to me. Yum!
I also ordered a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice (with pulp). Nothing can beat that.
A perfect Sunday morning breakfast.
If you love breakfast good, GO HERE!
This place is amazing. Â My husband and I live in Rogers Park, and regularly give our brunch patronage to Walker Bros. Â Don't be nervous about the long line that wraps around the building if you get there at 12noon on a Saturday - the service is incredible and they turn the place over quite a few times, so you never wait for long.
One of my favorite things about this place is that it is so unassuming from the outside, but the food is smart and timeless. Â No greasy diner food here. Â Bring your appetite!
My favorites: venetian benedict, spinach crepes, potato pancakes, and (of course) the crispy french toast.
On our last visit, we hung around after paying our check to chat with one of the owners for about 10 minutes. Â Nice and genuinely appreciated our business.
Busy and delicious.
The german pancake is amazing and should be consumed at every visit. Huge, so split it.
Don't fall for the siren song of the apple pancake. This is more of a dessert type deal that should be consumed at 1/8th the portion actually served.
Not exactly the best place for kids. Lots of stuffy old people there who forgot what loud kids are like. But the food is good, no doubt.
LOVE IT!
Went here 3 times in 4 days.
I should be ashamed, but my taste buds thank me.
I even started my New Year here.
There was a line to the door, but I waited no longer than 10 minutes!
& I love that they're open 6am-10pm everyday!
Breakfast for dinner is highly underrated.
All 3 times I ordered blueberry pancakes and hash browns.
'Twas amazing.
The last time I decided to jazz up the hash browns with the jalapeño cheese and pico de gallo.
Umm...DO IT. BE A MAN. or woman.
These hash browns are nondiscriminatory.
So to recap:
blueberry pancakes (as fluffy as fluffy gets)
&
hash browns (with jalapeño cheese and pico--if you're a man)
Skip the coffee.
It's good, but not $2.60 good.
Best to pre and post-game with the coffee.
Unless it's a date and you're a girl.
Then the guy is paying, so who cares?
While it's good I don't go gaga over its food. Service quality depends on the day, time and server (I still remember being given the wrong check and paying for it without looking. My error, although that has never happened to me before). Some patrons are at times too "Glenviewy" for my taste (I know it offends but some of that town's people seem to relive '80s midlife attitudes too much), but thankfully not all.
Review Source:Five star restaurant (for what it is), minus a star for how insane the wait can get and for the tiny glasses of water and juice.
If you're really hungry and want something decadent, you will not regret ordering the apple pancake or the dutch baby. Â And if you want something lighter, well, I've never regret anything I've ever ordered. Â But who goes for "light" fare at a pancake house. Â Indulge. Â Enjoy. Â Food coma later.
I have been to the Arlington Heights restaurant before, so I knew what to expect. This restaurant has the same menu, and the decor is the same, although a little more cramped. The food is excellent, if you like breakfast food. We had an apple pancake, blueberry waffle, southwestern omlette, and spinach crepes. All were exceptional. Coffee is ok, but not amazing. I really wanted to order Lox and bagel, but this item was deleted from the menu. They do have other things to get.
This is my favorite breakfast restaurant in Chicagoland.
Walker Bros. is the place to go in the northern suburbs. There portions are huge and their pancakes are by far the best I have had. There are some eclectic breakfast restaurants in the city, but this is a traditional pancake house. Their hash browns with onions are just the way I like them, shredded and crispy. It's always busy for breakfast but I've enjoyed them for dinner time as well and it's much quieter then. Their coffee is not the best, but it's okay. There orange juice is freshly squeezed! My favorite Walker Bros, is the original one in Wilmette, but I frequent the Glenview branch a lot, too.
Review Source:Ehh....I do not think I'm the target demographic for this place. I don't like screaming kids, unnecessarily large portions, or a factory-like atmosphere.
We got here at 8:30, they were able to seat us (party of 2) immediately. My dining companion ordered the apple pancake and I ordered the cherry crepes. The apple pancake was HUGE. My dad makes them, and the size of the one they served is the size of the one he makes to serve 4 people. The one he makes is better.
As for the crepes...I am a crepe nerd, I make very good ones at home. Theirs was thick and the sauce & cherries were wayyyyyy too sweet. Every last bit of the crepe was drowned in the sauce. It was all too sugary and heavy for my taste.
I felt like I was eating in a daycare, there were loud children everywhere. This is like any other original pancake house.
We were in and out in 15 min. Very wham-bam-thank you mam. When we left, there was an extremely long line.
I think this is a good place to take kids with short attention spans, but the food is vastly overrated and I didn't like the atmosphere.
Their Apple Cinnamon Pancake is ah-mazing. Â It's more like a deep dish apple cinnamon roll than a pancake. Â Come hungry, because the portions are not small. Â Also, the best parts of the menu are on the sweeter side, so if that's not your thing or you're not in that kind of mood, then probably best to move on. Â Though their habanero cheese has browns were decent.
Review Source:This. Place. Is. MAGICAL. I can't believe I have been living in this area for 4 months and had no idea this was here. I came here to treat my boyfriend for his birthday but I think I enjoyed it way more than him!
I ordered the crispy crunchy french toast with bananas. I usually don't do fruit toppings because they are either very syrup like or it just doesn't go well with the dish. When the plate arrived I was very impressed. The scent alone was very enticing. The taste was out of this world. The corn flake crust gave it such a unique flavor.
I was also impressed by the service here. Everyone was extremely pleasant and very attentive. I felt very comfortable here and I can't wait to come back! The lines can be long but I think they do an excellent job getting people in and out! So don't let that deter you!!
This was our first time eating at the pancake house. Wait was not very long which was good. We were seating by a young women who was very friendly. But once we sat down we felt like they forgot about us. One person brought water to our table. Another asked if we wanted coffee, then when the waiter came by we weren't quite ready yet (it being our first time) so he said he would come back and NEVER did. Â the host actually came by and took our order since she noticed we haven't been helped.
Food was good, service was not so good. The young women host saved our experience.
This place is beautiful! Its a family favorite! The staff is so nice, service is quick and food is delectable! Â I have never gotten pancakes here but let me tell you, the omelettes will knock your socks off! The coffee keeps on coming and the service is friendly! The building is so pretty and the booths have a classic look and feel. One of our favorite finds in the suburbs!
Review Source:Great to be a neighbor of the highest quality pancake house we know. Â They are constantly improving the menu from very good to even better. Â A little expensive. Â My wife hesitates to go anywhere else and would give it a five. Â I'd prefer an even cheaper greasy spoon once in a while.
Review Source:Best brunch place I have visited so far. Best Corn Beef Hash I have ever had. The seasoning was just right. Freshly Squeezed orange juice...MM...MM..MM Delicious! And then whoa, the biggest sweetest apple cinnamon pancake I had ever seen! I was purposefully eating my corn beef hash late so I could get my other friends eat the brunt of the apple cinnamon pancake. Its what you call strategic eating in the face of some serious case of sugar. The only thing that stinks about this place is getting there without a car (be prepared to take a touristic walk through the streets of Linden before coming to the place)
Review Source:OH. MY. GOD. I have now officially fallen in love with breakfast and will drive all the way to Wilmette from now on to regale in the heaven known as Walker Brothers Original Pancake House. Â When there are so many great places for breakfast and brunch in the city, it seems a little ridiculous to make a 30 minute trek to the northern suburbs for pancakes...or so I thought.
After listening to my family and boyfriend rave about this place for the last decade, I decided to cave and finally see what the hype was all about for myself. Â Becauase I had heard horror stories of long waits and lines out the door, I dragged myself out of bed at 7:30am on a Saturday, in an attempt to avoid such nonsense. Â Good thing I did, because when we arrived, we were seated immediately. Â I later noticed that the line I had heard so much about was no myth after all. Â
My first impression of this place was like being in grandma's kitchen. Â Lots of oak, and stained glass...and happy, happy people (children and adults alike) enjoying good food and one anothers company. Â As soon as we sat down, we were offered coffee, for which we never saw the bottom of our cups because their service is so impeccable. Â Any time our cups reached the halfway mark, it was quickly refilled. Â How can you not love that? Â I also ordered a glass of their orange juice, was which 100% natural and fresh squeezed. Â I would definitely recommend ordering the large size. Â Our server was also very attentive and checked on us regularly. Â At no point did we feel like we had to wait for any of the things we asked for whether it was box for our leftovers or the check.
Since I was in a pancake house, I thought that I better order pancakes if I was truly going to judge it. Â I chose the "Georgia Pecan" that came with a ton of pecans both in and on the pancakes along with whipped butter, syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar. Â They weren't kidding when they said they loaded on the pecans! Â I had plenty in every bite....yumnmmmm!!! Â The whipped butter was light and slightly sweet and so good on the pancakes. Â The pancakes themselves were fluffy and golden brown, just as I love them. Â Since the order comes with a total of 6, it can be hard to finish unless you come with a seriously empty tummy. Â I took three home and warmed them up in the microwave on Sunday and they were still just as delicious.
My boyfriend ordered the Santa Fe Omelette, which had onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapeno peppers, SPICY habanero cheese and fresh salsa on the side. Â OK, beware, this is not for the weak hearted. Â I pride myself in having a pretty high tolerance for heat, but this made ME break out in a sweat. Â The habenero cheese was unlike anything I have ever tasted and the omelette itself which is actually baked was light, fluffy and cooked to perfection. Â
This place offers comfort food and large portions at a reasonable price. Â The added bonus is that you are almost guaranteed to have leftovers for the next day that are going to taste just as good as the day before!
We visit this location most often because it is more convenient than the original (first) location in Wilmette.
If you are a pancake person, this is the place for you.
Their apple pancake drips with apple sauces and makes you drool just looking at the menu!
Their Dutch Baby is a very light pancake covered in lemon and powdered sugar and again, causes the drool to form.
They also have fabulous crepes and super thin potato pancakes (which are a favorite of mine).
Their Kona blend coffee is the only coffee I drink.
I love the wait and managerial staff at this location, which makes us want to come back often.
I was lucky enough to get to go to Walker Bro's Pancake House during my Thanksgiving break! My mom took me. I was convinced I wouldn't be able to go, but I made it. http://www.walkerbros.ne…
On this visit, I got buttermilk pancakes, and sunny side up eggs. Even simple is good at Walker Bro's. Since I knew I'd be having dinner later at Koi, I decided to keep it light. Amazing. The pancakes combined with butter and syrup basically made me stop in my tracks because I forgot what real pancakes are supposed to taste like.
I have been going to Walker Bro's for years. No matter what I order, amazing. Apple pancake, crepes, omelette's, and blueberry pancakes of course! All amazing.
The atmosphere can be harried, but it's always worth the wait. It's an especially great place to go if you have a big group, because they have huge tables to accomodate you. Also, for the last year they've been doing a discount each month to celebrate how long they've been in business. So lots of half price goodies The stain glass windows and Tiffany inspired lamps also add a nice flair. Overall, I highly recommend Walker Brothers for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner. Because what is better than breakfast for dinner?
My mom ordered the French Toast, which was the special for November. Just another reason why you have to go if you're ever in the area. And they have 6 locations, so you have no excuse if you're on the North Shore of Chicago. Anyway, I tried it and it was delectable. If French Toast can be fluffy, then this was fluffy. And warm and so yummy. Simple goodness.
The only breakfast place that will satisfy my cravings when I use to live in the western suburbs of Chicago. Â I would travel about an hour to eat some of those hot, delicious, fluffy buttermilk pancakes and drink that fresh squeezed orange juice (you can see the pulp and seeds from the orange at the bottom of the glass, none of that fake stuff overpriced, hip breakfast joints served). Â I love the thick cut bacon, fried to perfection. Â The homemade corn beef hash with basted eggs (gotta be somewhat healthy). Â One of the newer menu items is the Habanero Hash Browns - soo spicy, but so good that you can't stop eating.
I've been to a few Original Pancake Houses (Oak Park, IL, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oregon), but Walker Brothers Original Pancake House is the best Original Pancake House!
Walker Brothers is the real breakfast experience.
The whole place is done out in old-school wood paneling and Tiffany-style stained glass. It's got a very "English Countryside" vibe and the waiters and bus boys are similarly themed. The minute you get inside you know they mean breakfast.
On Sundays and Saturdays, the line will be long-- especially if you arrive from 10a-1p. Walker Brothers is a North Shore institution, and everyone from senior citizens to hungover high schoolers to small families to parent-and-flew-the-coop-visiting-college-child-Âpairs journey to this place in search of fresh squeezed orange juice and, of course, the Apple Pancake.
The Apple Pancake is likely the most famous of Walker Brothers creations and it is, indeed, surprising every time you see it. I've consumed well over 100 Apple Pancakes in my life, and every single time Walker Bros plops one down in front of me, I am still in awe of the gigantic size and heft of the thing. How best to describe the infamous Apple Pancake? Well it's much like a balloon. A steaming hot balloon filled with monkey-bread style cake with apples and brown sugar everywhere and the whole thing literally dripping in sugary goodness. Yes, the Apple Pancake is divine.
On a similarly absurdly huge note-- the omelets. They are also quite large. Generally, the Walker Bros omelet is fluffy, chock-full of melty cheese, spruced up with your omelet fillings of choice, and oven baked. The omelets, like everything else here, are darn good.
If you aren't feeling something quite so, well, large, you should hit up the pancakes. Sure, the buttermilk pancakes are the best buttermilk pancakes you will ever have the honor of shoving into your mouth, but why stop there? What you really want is to step up your pancake game; you want the Blueberry Pancakes.
Ah yes, the Blueberry Pancakes are like the buttermilk pancakes if buttermilk pancakes could evolve into an even tastier pancake. The Blueberry ones not only have the most plump blueberries you've ever seen popped into each pancake, but they also come with a blueberry compote featuring *MORE FAT BLUEBERRIES*! Ah yes, if you've gotten this far, you're making the right call.
But maybe you're not a pancake person (who isn't a pancake person?!???). Maybe you want something a little more sophisticated. Then Walker Bros has got you covered, girl. You want those Cherry Crepes.
The Cherry Crepes are, you guessed it, Cherry Crepes where the cherries have been cooked in some kind of wine glaze. They tell you what that wine is on the menu, but I'm just letting you know right now-- it doesn't matter what kind of wine it is. What matters is that it's fantastic. Not only that, but they're fabulous left-over.
The Eggs Benedict is alright. But have you been reading what I've been writing here?! You don't need to settle for alright. You can have knock-your-socks-off food. Here. At this place. Walker Brothers.
But if you really want a poached egg, let me suggest to you the Venetian Benedict instead. It's, honestly, much better than the Eggs Benedict and probably healthier too. It's got a nice little (and I mean little) kick to it with their Pico de Gallo and the Spinach and Mushrooms are delicious when you're craving something green.
So do I like Walker Brothers? Yeah I do. You should probably go there.
I've been going to this place since I was a little kid and all I've ever gotten was the GERMAN Pancake. If you love delicious sweeet food that could feed Paul Bunyan, you get this. Its so amazing, just melts in your mouth and literally I crush it in a matter of minutes and my family always looks at me and ask "how did you eat that whole thing?" My response, its orgasmic.
I always try a little bit of my family's food as well and I do love the Santa Fe omelet and the side pancakes are amazing as well. i don't know how you cant give this place a 5 star rating because its just that good.
Weekend mornings though can be slammed with huge lines which is the one downside but any other time and its very easy to get into. LOVEE ITTTT
So many delightful memories of the Pancake House -- it remains the only place that will make my primarily veg body lust for bacon (so thick, so crispy, so glorious) -- and unlike some of my other childhood favorites, the Pancake House today stands up to everything that it was to me as a roly poly 8 year old -- yes, you'll wait in a line, yes the service is surly and pretty absent, but the menu remains simple brunch perfection.
If you want foie torchon french toast with huckleberry coulis, then perhaps this isn't your spot, but if you prefer to ingest a billion calories in the form of a glorious Dutch apple pancake (coming in at 12 inches in diameter, w/ at least 2 sticks of butter and 1c sugar in it, it can only be described as luscious), banging waffles w/ loads of whipped cream, tender hashbrowns topped with cheddar, baked omelettes (puffy, succulent) and hot cocoa that is definitively Swiss Miss (and 10000% tasty, sorry I'm not sorry), then Walker Bros is for you. Really, if you live in the vicinity of Chicago it is a travesty not to try their offerings at least once -- though I think the quality can vary depending on the one in which you dine.
The decor (pseudo-Tiffany lamps, maroon linoleum booths, etc) is tired but clean -- and for the monies bit, you can easily get a massive quantity of brunch edibles for $15/pp. Nothing fancy, just tasty. Oh, it's cash only, so hit the BoA ATM abt 1/2 a block down, or come w/ your sugar daddy.
We just came back from a long day skiing in Wisconsin (whose slopes deserve negative ratings, but that's another story), and decided to get some dinner on the north side. I suggested Applebee's, but my companions suggested this gem instead.
Anything on this menu trumps an under 550 calorie meal.
I really like breakfast joints. Like, REALLY like them. Mainly because I can get generally the same thing at all of them (I'm not a sophisticated foodie). But this place is definitely special. Not only is the atmosphere wonderful with its woody environment and stained glass windows, but the food was simply exquisite - way above par compared to the average breakfast hub.
Service was also excellent. I asked the waiter if I could get blue crab meat in my omelette (don't ask; long story), and he succeeded in persuading the kitchen to allow that (I didn't end up taking it though, because it was seemed frowned upon and cost an extra $5.00).
Definitely going back up there for brunch/dinner/lunch (I don't wake up early enough for breakfast).
The first time I visited Walker Brothers, I wasn't quite sure why all the hype. "So, it's basically IHOP, but with more wood paneling and beveled glass?"
Now that I'm initiated, I can claim that I get it. (I don't know if get it...). I will say that Walker Brothers is a nice little breakfast joint-- a very decent place with solid, no-frills (but not greasy spoon) food (eggs and cakes and bacon instead of brioche or creme fraiche or quail's egg peasant quiche).
For me, Walker Bros. is the place to be because it has gluten-free pancakes. And while I like to believe that ALL breakfast establishments should serve gf hotcakes, most places simply don't. So, thanks, Walker Brothers--- the gluten-free unfriendly breakfast places of this cold and bitter world could learn a lot from you... you and your stain glass light fixtures.
Walker Brothers was introduced to me by a college buddy, and now it's where I go for breakfast/brunch whenever I'm in town.
The menu reminds me a lot of The Original Pancake House. Â Walker Brothers actually calls themselves Walker Brothers Original Pancake House, so perhaps they're related somehow? Â Any food historians here?
Anyway, the omelets are pretty awesome and the portion size is more than enough. Â It's loaded with your choice of toppings and it's never runny. Â You can order pancakes on the side, and they're very filling and satisfying. Â I especially liked their special Kona blend coffee. Â The service is very good, with someone coming by to refill your cup often.
Next time I'll try the special pancakes, but it's hard to turn down the omelet since I'm not able to come here often. Â Highly recommended for a good breakfast/brunch place.
As I'm sure many locals know, this place gets crazy busy! My husband and I wanted to try it for the first time last Sunday, but the line was out the door. A friend gave us the tip to go before 9 am so that's what we did this morning - the restaurant was still busy, but there was no line and we were in and out of there in less than 45 mins.
The decor is pretty cool and it's a larger place than most breakfast places, which I thought was nice. Also, I don't know if this is a common thing since we've only been there once, but the waiter staff and bus boys seem to share tables, which I thought was very cool, because it made the service faster and you don't have to wait around for your specific waiter if they're busy. The wait staff was very nice, but I did thing the lady working at the cash register was just ok. She wasn't mean, but wasn't very welcoming either.
Ok, now to the food! The food was very good - i don't know if it's as amazing as everyone else thinks, but it was definitely tasty. I will say though that the pancakes DID live up to the expectations! They were very fluffy and probably one of the best pancakes I've ever had. I know it's a pancake house, but I did wish they had more to their menu... like biscuits and gravy or scramblers or something. I DO want to try their special pancakes next time though - they looked and smelled delicious!
My theory is that since Chicago is known for deep-dish pizza, they're bound to have deep dish versions of other food items. I believe that I've found the pancake version here! The apple pancake that I ordered was so thick, sweet, and gooey that I ended up finishing only 3/8 of it!
For those with a lower sweetness tolerance (and who don't mind waiting 20 mins. for the order), I'd recommend the Dutch baby pancake. The pancake house also apparently has a menu item on sale every month, so for this month only, they offer a 25% discount on the Dutch baby. If you're craving their pancakes and are on a budget, definitely go for this item!
As for any leftovers? Wrap them with a moistened towel, and microwave until warm. I was pleasantly surprised to find the same fluffiness, substance, and sweetness of my apple pancakes remained intact!
Note: If you're coming on a Sunday morning, definitely arrive before 9am to avoid the lines and to access available free parking. Keep in mind that seating 2 people is much faster than for a group of 4+.
Walker Brothers has been a part of my life for a long time. Â It was one of those places I grew up with. Â Some may have grown up going to Sarki's a few miles away, but this place was mine. Â Unsurprisingly, I've had nearly everything on the menu.
The menu is shockingly similar in both layout and content to other Original Pancake houses. Â You can get the apple pancake and the dutch baby at any of the locations. Â They even serve Kona coffee. Â What sets this particular location apart however, is the ridiculous consistency and care in preparation of the food as well as the extra variety the Walker Brothers name provides. Â Not only do you get to sit beneath an antique lamp of some sort, but you're surrounded by wood paneled walls and stained glass. Â You also get the Walker Brothers specific dishes like the Danish Garden & Venetian Benedict.
When I think of Walker Brothers however, I think of the massive German Pancake... Â I've tried and failed countless times to finish this thing, maybe next weekend will be my day. Â When this monster comes out of the kitchen, heads turn as eyes lock on to the three inch vertical walls of this pancake. Â Then you quickly see those same heads go right back into the menus while mouthing, "what was that?". Â There is also something magical about squeezing several fresh lemon wedges into a pancake that is larger than the plate it comes in and then making it rain with powdered sugar. Â As you can imagine, you end up with discarded lemon wedges all over the place like pawns from a chess game. Â It's got the decadence and flavor of a truly great brunch dish, yet it's so simple in preparation.
Come here on the weekend during breakfast and brunch hours, and you will end up waiting in line. Â Sometimes the line goes way out the door and can extend a good fifteen feet out into the parking lot. Â Those first few weeks when NU is ramping up for the fall, it's madness. Â However, if you're a party of two, expect to be seated in about ten to twenty minutes. Â There are a lot of two tops in this place and they turn them over pretty fast. Â Larger parties obviously will need to wait longer, but I've seen groups of twelve get seated together. Â They will not take your names down, but the host will come down the line inside the glassed waiting area asking how big your group is. Â If you determine the wait to be too long, don't walk into Jilly's Cafe as at times it is reservation only for brunch so do call ahead.
The bathrooms have those hilarious Xcellerator hand driers! Â You'll need em to clean the lemon and sugar that inevitably gets all over your hands.
For a classic American Brunch, this is a top pick.
Eating here is an essential part of my weekend. The line gets a little long and it sucks in the winter when you're waiting outside but all great brunch spots have a wait and this Walker Bros is no exception.
If you can eat a lot of cheese, try the Danish Garden! This location does the best Danish Garden out of all of the other Chicago-area Walker Bros. And I always get a side of sausages with the Danish Garden.
If cheese isn't your friend and you're a benedict fan, try the Venecian Benedict.
Otherwise, you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. One of these days, I will conquer the Apple Pancake...
When I'm carbo loading (or just feeling piggy), I'll add a side of extra crispy hash browns with pico de gallo - no cheese. Their pico de gallo has a good tangy zing to it and just spicy enough. It's a winning combo!
Parking here is usually easy - unlike the Glenview location. If you can't find a spot in the lot, street parking is a breeze.
Show me a better place for breakfast in Evanston and I'll buy you lunch!
Wheat germ pancakes! Â Amazing variety of egg dishes. Decent coffee. Â Fresh squeezed juices. Â Strawberry crepes!
Terrific, reliably great breakfast food. Â Service is always very good. Â This place is extremely well managed. Â Kudos to whoever's in charge.
This is where I always take out of town guests for breakfast.
