This is hands down the best and freshest place to buy seafood in the Westfield area. Everything is super fresh - their salmon, shrimp, fresh seafood salads are all amazing. Plus they make their own seafood bisques and chowders and will cook lobsters for you, fresh to order. Just wonderful. LOVE THIS PLACE.

Holy cats, do I love this place. They get their fish fresh from the Fulton Fish Market early every morning. You can either buy fish to cook at home or get pre-prepared food. I've only ever ordered the prepared food, which is totally excellent.

They cook your food in about fifteen minutes (no delivery, so you do have to pick it up). It's perfect for quick dinner when you're in a hurry or have someone coming over. We get the battered shrimp and tilapia, which costs a little under thirty bucks and is good for a dinner and a lunch for four people.

It's a fish store with a take out kitchen (no seating).  The quality of the fish is excellent and you can tell it's fresh.  The staff is helpful & pleasant.  The kitchen makes great sandwiches & platters ~ the Scallop Melt and the Swordfish Whoop-de-doo sandwiches are my favorites!  They give you a side of cole slaw, tartar sauce & cocktail sauce.  We've gone there for many years.  If you're coming from Cranford or Garwood, it's right before the Westfield Train Station on the right ~ easy to miss.

They should create a website, but Westfield Patch has photos & other info (hours)... here is the link:

The May 2011 review by Gerry C is disturbing... although she said she'd been going there for years and the fish was fine, she gave a rating of only 1 star because she was ignored when she entered the store... I wonder if it's possible that the staff didn't hear her come in?  When they're cooking in the kitchen, it's loud behind the counter.  After 30 seconds of any merchant not noticing a customer, the customer should say (fairly loudly)  "Hi there".  Their reaction(s) would tell you if they had an attitude problem.  I've never had that problem at Westfield Seafood.

Sitting near the Westfield NJ Transit station is a little gem that you could blink and miss if you were driving by.  Westfield Seafood is a small, rectangular building along South Avenue with a parking lot in front.  Its exterior is painted blue and white, colors you'd expect from a store selling seafood.

Inside the store is set up much like a butcher shop.  There are refrigeration units where friendly staff take your orders, cashiers to the side and a nice big tank of lobsters.  The other side has freezer units where you can get everything from frozen calamari to frozen crab legs.  They also have pre-prepared foods such as seaweed salad, lobster salad and stuffed peppers,  yum!

Today I ordered black bass for a dish I'm trying out.  It wasn't cheap, but nor was the quality of the fish.  This fish smelled fresh and cooked so much nicer than defrosted fish I've purchased elsewhere.  Best of all, they left the skin on, which was exactly what my recipe called for.  When done, the fish was juicy, plump and flaked apart perfectly.

On my next trip, I'm hoping to try out some of their prepared foods as I saw a whole functioning kitchen behind the counter!

There's always a great selection of the freshest fish and shellfish by the pound. They also prepare food to go in their kitchen, with lunch specials, plus good salads--seafood, lobster, crab, macaroni, several kinds of potato, cole slaw, etc., and homemade soups and stocks. All the salads are made from scratch, except the wakame seaweed salad.

The dry scallops that I bought here today cooked up nicely, and tasted very fresh. They have unusual items sometimes, too. I once got fresh opah (Pacific moonfish) here. Prices are not cheap, but, you generally get what you pay for.
