It's just a chill place to go. It would be fun to go for trivia or something I'm sure..but we went on a Friday and there was nothing going on. So we drank. This is a decent place for beer but they are weak on their cocktail selection..they were out of a lot of flavors. I figured out a cocktail I wanted based on their selection and it was so weak I might as well had it in a sippy cup. Ugh. Boo.

The bartenders are very nice though and the crowd is definitely chill.

Charming bar located in West Asheville.  My friend and I walked there from her house.  It took a few minutes to be approached by the waitress, but she was friendly and accommodating.  My friend ordered the tempeh Ruben, and the waitress did not blink an eye.  But, when I ordered the salad and requested no chicken, this request appeared to send the lady into a tail spin.  "No meat at all?" she exclaimed in surprise.   The salad itself was generous, with lovely ingredients such as cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, black beans and olives.  The accompanying dressing came in a tiny, stingy cup.  Not enough for such a large salad.  But, the waitress brought me more upon request.  Hey, I did decline the chicken, so a little extra dressing should have been a given.

Looks like a little hole in the wall bar.....basically it is!  Service was outstanding.  Great place to have a drink or two before going elsewhere for dinner.

Can you actually get worse service - even in Asheville? 1 pm Saturday lunch, 2 other tables in the place. 15 minute wait  while the server dealt with a local drunk - still no menu. Then she took a call on her cell. We walked out----- nuf said?

Service was friendly and quick, and the food was good, but not incredible.  Feels like it would probably be a pretty fun place to hang out for the evening, but I was just there for dinner.  Had me some jerk chicken, and it was tasty, indeed.  But with so many restaurants around, I've got a lot more places to try before I make a special point to go back.

I don't even have words to describe how rude and non professional the staff is here. In specific the crazy woman who after not being able to calmly get a customer to finish his beer at 2:23am decided to pull out a Freakin TAZER and threaten me (customer trying to help diffuse the situation) and my wife by flaying her tazer in the air and yelling pulling the trigger. Nuts. Service has always sucked but after suffering through sub par everything for well over five years now and spending way to much of my hard earned money here I won't be back. Nor will anyone of my friends, family or coworkers. I've worked as a bartender for a long time and have to say Westville is the most unprofessionally operated establishment in West Asheville for sure. Too cool for school.

This place is absolutely unbelievable.  I've been here a LOT over the past 5 years, always wanting to believe that it's a good bar in West Asheville, and always leaving disappointed, enraged, or depressed. So where shall I begin? The clientele? The extremely rude service from the so-called bartenders?  The TAZER incident? I suppose I'll begin with my husband's birthday a couple years back.  The tall skinny hipster bartender was working, being rude and aloof as usual, and we ordered some chicken wings.  My husband loves chicken wings, especially really spicy ones.  So he ordered the "whoop ass" - the hottest wings (out of like, 4 options) that they offer.  They were truly inedible.  There was no getting past the heat - it had absolutely NOTHING to offer in the way of flavor, just burning awful heat.  What's the effing point of serving anything on your menu that literally nobody can eat?  The bartender offered no apology, no explanation of how inedible the shit would be when it came out, in fact, he offered nothing at all whatsoever.  We still had to pay for them even though he only managed to eat like one of them (if that).  Happy birthday honey.

This is the case with this same bartender every time I ever go there when he's working.  Totally annoyed that you're actually asking him for a drink.  Clearly, he just wants to hang out and listen to his terrible psychobilly metal music or whatever  it is and rake in the cash.  On one trip, my friend asked for a Carrot Cake shot, and he simply replied "No."  Like, what do you mean, "No"? Do... you... want to make money?  Are... you... a bartender?  We are, in fact, bartenders.  So I know what I'm talking about here.  After a minute he recanted, asking if she knew what was in it - which, she did.  (Goldschlager, Baileys, Butters) And he finally made it.  Awesome.

As for the clientele, I've experienced so many rude frickin people!  On one visit, a girl came up to our table outside and said "Can you please shut the f**k up? It's my birthday and I'm trying to have fun and you guys are being really loud." Of course we were, we're at a bar outside, in the summertime, drinking! Isn't that what you do there?  I know they can't be held responsible for the clientele, but after so many rude interactions on so many different occasions, you gotta think it really says something about a place.

Now for the tazer incident... This was just last night!  And the straw in the camel's back which has forever sealed the fate of our economic relationship.  The bar is closing.  Sometimes, you find yourself there at the end of the night; it happens.  Even as a bartender who knoooows how annoying it can be, I am sometimes guilty of closing 'er down.  We are sitting outside - me, my husband, a friend and 2 randos we met.  Girl comes out and says "5 minutes."  We finish our drinks.  She comes back for the glasses and takes ours, tries to take Mr. Rando's and he won't give it up.  We don't know who the hell he is but she is being really rude and he's responding in kind.  My husband tries to step in and help (by being nice to the guy, since that's a better way to handle drunk & disorderlies at the end of the night) and the guy drops his drink on the ground and grabs my man's wrist.  So we're like, alright f**k this we tried to help but we're not gonna fight the guy for his drink that's not even our job.  Next thing I know, the randos take off and 5 seconds later crazy bitch bartender comes running out with a TAZER and starts threatening us!!! Threatening little old me! "Everybody get the f**k out of here!"  Buzzing her tazer in the air like a freakin pistol.  Are you KIDDING me?!? It's the craziest thing I've ever experienced at a bar anywhere and I promise you after all this I will never, ever go back.

I like the bar itself, better than the food, none of which is bad, but I've also never been wowed. A fun hangout spot in West Ash.

I love Westville Pub. I've only sampled their menu once or twice, but have spent many nights damaging my liver at this fine establishment. Good food, stiff drinks and friendly folks. Their patrons run the gamut from college kids to retirees. There's a great patio out back where smokers are welcome. They do a trivia night last I checked, and have live music on the weekends. Overall a fantastic local hangout where I like to frequent when I'm back in A-ville.

This is a fun, genuine neighborhood pub.   It's not a big tourist spot.  One night I was there they had an open mic that has your standard singer-songwriters doing covers, but also a Native American doing something pretty interesting.   They have some nice local brews.

I've eaten here twice now and I have no complaints about the food, which is good, especially for a pub. They seem to have more choices than most pubs, such as grilled tuna that comes with greens and rice. I had the jerk chicken plate last time and it was a lot of food and a good value at around $10. I really want to try just about everything they have on their menu and I want to give the Sunday all-you-can eat, all-day breakfast a try. For $7.99 how could you go wrong? One of the owners has waited on us twice at lunch time, and he's a hard worker as he was the only one waiting on people. Our food took a while last time and we were hungry, so if you're starving or in a hurry, might not be a good choice for lunch.

This place moves near the top of my fav list in AsheVegas.

We went there for Friday night trivia. What a great event. This is a local neighborhood pub with many good local microbrews.

We liked the Pisgah. Wedge and Green Man brews.

The Mountain Quesedeliias were exceptional, local caught trout!

They have a nice back patio which is probably great in the season.

We waited an hour and a half for a cab to take us back to downtown
    Asheville.

Ok, so admittedly I have only been here once, but with the tab being payed for the whole night I definitely can not complain. The hours were lost in numerous drinks that had been consumed. The random group gatherings around the dumpster & the back porch kept us lingering around even after hours. The company was great & the local artists were many. A great spot if your interested in meeting interesting bar go-ers, who many; like you enjoy the dark, mysteriously lit, intriguing, music blaring from every edge kind of place. Needless to say...I loved it! :-) Thank you 828

I love this place.  We're visiting friends in Asheville, and this is the third time we've been here.  Every single time our food has been amazing

This time I had the cheese-steak, and it was very tasty ^.^.    Our friend had the bison sliders and they were amazing! And my bf had the burger, which I've had before, and was just as delicious as last time :D

I really like this place.  I haven't gotten to try their NOLA po'boys yet, but I am willing to make the trip to be here on a Wed. to try them... if they're like everything else here... they will be fantastic.

They have a really nice beer selection and I really like their atmosphere.  Trivia nights is a lot of fun with them as well.

Definitely recommend trying this place out when you're in Asheville.

Bar none, the finest pub in Asheville.(get it?) It's also worth mentioning that this was the first real pub in West Asheville, and still the best.

An excellent local spot, frequented by everyone, but especially residents of West Asheville. In a city like Asheville where everything gets dominated by tourists and transplants so quickly, it is refreshing to find a place that has been able to maintain its quality and integrity via support of the community.

This isn't just a bar. The food at this joint is awesome. Try the blackened ahi tuna sandwich or platter. Try the veggie wrap. Try the wings...seriously...try the wings. Best in Asheville. (but beware the whoop-ass sauce...it is no joke)

Most nights there is something going on, whether it's WII Bowling, Trivia, or Live Music. The array of artists that play here is pretty good, although the space gets way too loud for conversation when there is live music.

Update: My new favorite Westville day is Sunday...all day all-you-can-eat breakfast!!! YES!

If Your looking for a good meal, don't waste your time.  As far as hanging out and having a beer outside on the patio, its a pretty decent place.  I definitely recommend going in the day time.  not too crowded, bartenders are attentive and its a pretty nice place to chill out, relax, and sip a pitcher between friends.  Lunch isn't so bad there.  Its pub food.  The quality does seem to go out the window at night though.  Food, service, and crowd, are pretty lame at  night.  If patchoulli, dreadlocks, and long waits are your thing, then have at it.  Night crowd is pretty pretentious and kinda full of themselves.  All in all, not a bad place, but I still suggest make your first visit in the afternoon

I've visited three times and each was by day (even morning during world cup).  This place blends local beer taps, with a great attentive bartender by day, and good food.  Now this is bar food mind you... But with interesting touches.  I also had the jerk chicken plate... It was great and a lot of food.  Most impressive were the beans and carribean style greens.  My son had some sliders made of bison... Great meat and reasonable too.

During world cup they fit the bar schedule to the fan... Which rocks.  They also offered a massive, gutbusting, all you can eat breakfast. Last time I was in, they had continued  this.  I thought... Eh... How good can it be?  Answer: quite.

My bottom line is that this is a neighborhood bar that loves the customer.  If you ask, they will try to deliver.  Even for a three year old wanting to see "soccerball".  I need  to go at night, but this place impressed.

The food isn't very good nor is the service. The menu is typical.

They had a cool calendar come out.

They have really great bar food.  I had the jerked chicken plate.  The black beans and greens were really good and worked well with the chicken.  The beer selection is really good, too.   If I return to Asheville, I'll be sure to stop in again.  Service is really great, too.

I used to live within walking distance of this pub -- made the stroll over there probably about once a month. It's a comfortable, homey place to sit and have a beer (with a nice selection to choose from). The vibe is upbeat and friendly, and I always appreciate nonsmoking bars. And they have pitchers!

As others have noted, however, the food is very mediocre. (Hint: avoid the hamburger and opt for the big salad with grapes and walnuts instead.)

Service is spotty -- sometimes it's excellent, but other times you get the waiter who wants to tell you in great detail about his day as he's taking your order, then forgets to bring your food when it's ready.

So, as a bar I give this four stars, as a restaurant three.

Westville Pub is essential West Asheville.  It is quirky, the food isn't great.  The bands are awesome, the beer is local.  The vibe is awesome.  I'd recommend this as critical to visit if you're looking for the local side of Asheville; the opposite of the Biltmore Estate, Grove Park Inn, Grove Arcade place.  And I love that about it.  Even if you're visiting one of the above on your sojourn to Asheville, give this place, or 12 Bones, or Asheville Brewing Company, a try; Barack Obama went to 12 Bones for lunch you know!  I dig, locals dig, West Ashevill-ians dig.

My girlfriend and I ate here while passing through Asheville, it was recommended by the folks working at the hostel where we stayed.

The food was disappointing - my hamburger, although not a pre-frozen patty, tasted like one. My girlfriend's grilled cheese and tomato soup (the special) turned out to be grilled cheese and chunky tomato sauce....it was truly tacky.

I was impressed by the beer selection and it seemed like a decent place to hang out and waste a Saturday night - just don't go expecting "great pubgrub"

Great pubgrub food and the best beer tap selection outside downtown Asheville.  Open late for meals and for lunch.  The place has it's own parking lot behind back too, which is nice.  Local bands and other activities all the time.  Fun place if you're on the west side of town.  Go here and have a great time!

Okay beer but the food isn't that great.  They won't cook a hamburger "medium" due to bizarre North Carolina food laws and seem to insist on completely overcooking them, they even cut it while on the grill to ensure that not a hint of pink remains (nor moisture).  However I have twice had undercooked chicken here (hey folks pink burger = okay, pink chicken = definitely NOT okay!).  The fries are both overcooked and soggy.

Things to order are: the house salad and the veggie quesadilla (the farm quesailla is the one with the undercooked chicken!)

The service can be erratic but once they know you (or know that you tip) it seems to get better.

Yes, it is non-smoking (as long as you stay away from the patio *cough*) and they do have a pool table.

Great atmosphere and the music is usually pretty good.  Sometimes the service is a bit slow but it's hippie town, what do you expect right?  I really like the food as well.  I try to stop by once a week.  I've played at open mic and the crowd was decent and fairly attentive.

This is the place in Asheville that seems to have that "Cheers" potential to me. I don't get to the Westville much, but it's a great place. Just the type of place that I'd like to live walking distance from. Plus, they often have organic brew from right here in Asheville!
