The atmosphere here is awesome and the drinks are amazing. You have to be willing to spend a bit of money on the drinks, but they are delicious. Â We have had appetizers here a few times and those were great as well. Â Love the fact this is a speak-easy, and love how many local liquors they have!
Review Source:Had so much fun here last night. I honestly think it's one of my top bar-going experiences in Denver.
Initially the wait to get in seems kind of ridiculous (it's a bar!!), but it's a dark, cozy space, and it's nice that it's not swarming with people. I like how intimate/inviting it is.
We sat up at the bar. The bartender was great, really sweet and friendly. I had a gin cocktail and my friend had a new old-fashioned. The cocktails are delicious and strong. A+
Even if the drinks had been middling, I would still come back because the experience overall was so great.
I finally hit this place! While it's in my neighborhood I hadn't stopped in officially because long wait times had deterred me. Instead I had sampled Green Russel for the speakeasy feel and was underwhelmed. But this time I succeeded in entering Williams & Graham with very little wait time (no reservation). Love, love, love the bookshelf hidden door and the genuine attempt at a speakeasy atmosphere.
The drinks were divine and I loved the extensive spirit book. My only disappointment was the cheese platter. I think we chose cheeses too refined for our tastes (tasted like dirty socks), but I will take the higher road and blame our palettes and not the cheese itself. Service was impeccable and the dim lighting and dark booths generate a smoky vibe that is perfect for intimate conversations. Definitely make a reservation and enjoy!
I hadn't been back to Williams and Graham for a while and our visit yesterday totally took away a star from me. It is still a great location and the drinks are great but we were totally turned off by the staff.
Previously, once arriving we only had to give one name which was written down and then passed through a slit between books and when the door opened we were greeted by name from a host inside. Yesterday, we had to give all 4 names that were written down on a piece of paper then taken in by a host that walked inside with us but a 2nd host met us half way and asked us again for all of our names and made a point of shaking hands with all of us. Then, he placed us standing around the bookshelves and gave us a speech about how much the restaurant appreciates our business and we are the life and air of the place. It was so fake and over the top that was completely annoying.
Our waiter arrived and asked for each of our names again and made a point for shaking hands with each of us. He took our order and brought us water but never used our names.
The host that had given us the speech came back to let us know he had seats and the bar for us and asked for our names again as he couldn't remember. At the bar, a male bartender stopped by to ask us for our names and made a point for shaking hands with each of us. Then moved to the other side and a female bartender showed up to follow same routine of asking for our names and shaking hands with all. At this point we were all annoyed and left after 1 drink.
In total- we gave our names 6 times which were never used again and shaked hands and met 5 people for 1 drink. In the hour we were there we spent more time in this process of shaking hands versus enjoying drinks and conversation with friends. Once it would have been a nice touch and friendly, 5 times was over the top, prescriptive and totally off putting. Plus, not nice to know your garnishes are going on the drink by hand after bartender has shaken hands with all bar
* "SECRET, HIDDEN" SPEAKEASY *
you walk through the doors to this little room. they check IDs. then a host/hostess swings open the bookshelf to lead you to this speakeasy. you walk into this very dimly lit speakeasy. luckily there are no small steps or i would have tripped since it was so dark!!
felt like i needed a flashlight to read the menu. food menu is one page. drink menu is a full menu...hehe.
blackberry sage smash - whiskey with blackberry and sage. it's more whiskey than anything else in that drink.
rusty nail - another whiskey drink that was recommended by the bartenders
we also had the bacon beignets. weren't expecting them to be that big. they looked like flat pop tarts topped with a lot of powdered sugar with a blackberry sauce on the plate. the bacon was inside. it was enjoyable but it didn't blow me away..
the last page of the drink menu has a list of bars/speakeasies in different cities. they are places that they like or where their fellow friend bartenders work across the US. the varnish in DTLA is listed there. that is one of my hubby's fave places to get a drink.
4.5 stars
*Note: they have purse hooks at the bar. every bar should have them.
Yayyyyy! Â Maybe I am one of the only people in Denver who hasn't jumped on the speak easy wagon until just recently, but I loved Williams and Graham. Â I got to go here last minute with some friends, which seems like a fat chance most of the time. Â However, they had a cancellation when we checked in at the front and were able to wait for a spot. Â There is nothing that makes you feel like a grown up kid like being escorted through a secret wall and then being served a cocktail. Â It is like "BIG" the movie reenacted for real life 2013.
We sat in a little back section that looked similar to a library.  I had an amazing cocktail that I didn't get the name of, but it was on the specialty  drinks menu and was fizzy and infused with grapefruit. YUM!  They have lots of specialty drinks, old fashioned type drinks (in case you are feeling distinguished), and of course a plethora of beers!  Which is nice for those who want a cold brew (at a cheap price might I add).  My friends also munched on some mini sandwiches which smelled delicious. Â
This is a fun little adventure if you are in the highlands I would take a peek!
I'm frankly a bit ashamed I haven't written this review sooner. I was never a big believer in Williams and Graham. I tried to go once a billion years ago and since it was a Friday at peak hours was told there would be a massive wait. I cried a bit inside and then promptly forgot about it.
That is until I had out of town guests I needed to impress... I needed a swank yet down to earth hang out that captured the magnificence of Denver cocktails minus any pretentious vibes from staff or bartenders.
I WON THE LOTTO!!
This is the place!
We wandered in anticipating a few drinks before we moved along to the next stop and ended up staying three hours. The "few drinks" turned to many and each concoction was vastly different from the one before. We had Sean, the bartender, grabbing us bottles of Sheep Dip and Pig's Nose (i don't remember what they are of course) and crafting shots and sips that were mysteriously delicious. I have no idea what he was mixing but he very quickly gained my trust.
This man is a drink genius. And Williams and Graham is a place I will go back to...again, and again, and again....
I can honestly say that I have never hated a place more than I did this one. Â I am a big picky old queen and these people totally made me feel like a rube. Â I've had drinks at the Rainbow Room and the Top of the Mark but never have I made to feel so inadequate as I was here. Â We were dressed up by the way unlike the friends of the staff who wandered in in t-shirts, shorts and flip flops.
It started with the answering machine "Please leave a message after 4:00 p.m. if you wish to make a reservation and we will attempt to accommodate you." Â So, I called back and made a reservation for 5:15 p.m. on a Wednesday night (which I couldn't believe would be needed (and it wasn't). Â We arrive and are immediately carded (we are both in our 60s). Â
Then they guided us through their "secret door" into total blackness.  Before we can see where we are going the host says, "Well, I have a small table on the patio for you or you can sit at the bar".  There are maybe 5 people in the place.  Why exactly did we need to make a reservation to be the only people at the bar?  There must have been a dozen empty cozy little  booths which we would have preferred.  We were not going to hog a booth all night - just wanted a couple of drinks before dinner.  They were all still unoccupied when we left an hour later.
The bartender was extremely brusque - made a point on introducing himself to us never to again call us by name. Â We tried to engage him on several occasions and he totally ignored us. He gave us maybe 30 seconds with the drink menu before he was back in our face for our order. Â Drinks were OK as they should be at these prices. Â Not an attractive or friendly staff in any way and we couldn't wait to get the hell out of there and continue our evening in much friendlier environs at Old Major which was a delight - thank GOD.
You want to pay top dollar for OK drinks and a BIG helping of attitude? Â This is your place.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. Â The look of the place is great, with rich, dark wood and a wall of liquor that makes my mouth water. Â Sneaking through a bookcase to get in is always fun. Â I can even understand the long waits (just go and put your name in before dinner at any of the neighboring restaurants, and you won't feel like it was an imposition).
But the real test of a cocktail bar is its drinks. Â I have been to Williams & Graham three times, and I've only enjoyed my drinks once. Â The time with the good drinks was lovely! Â The other two times, I felt let down. Â I know what I like - boozy, spirit-forward drinks that should be a specialty here. Â But instead, the bartenders seemed limited to a few drinks on the menu and gave me and my friends virtually all the same thing: a watery drink that tasted like I could have gotten it anywhere (and paid much less than $14!).
And the music throws off the whole experience for me. Â You don't want to hear pop and hip hop in a speakeasy, especially not at such a high decibel level.
Overall, I am underwhelmed by Williams & Graham. Â If you want a truly great cocktail, skip the lines and go to Colt and Gray.
I'm somewhat spoiled and jaded in Portland with craft bars being plentiful. I will say that this was a unique experience for Denver though. The whole secret door thing is a fun way to start an evening. It sets the mood. The greeters in the "lobby" are super professional and friendly. It's a well managed operation. I like that everyone either introduces themselves or is introduced along with a handshake. Everyone really is "in character" of sorts. Inside seems crazy dark until your eyes adjust. Excellent selection of bottles. The bartenders are good at what they do and know more about the booze they carry then I will achieve in a lifetime. The seating is really well managed and controlled. It's a good thing unless you are having unexpected guests that want to stop by. Bar seats seem to be the most coveted and you might end up in a standing room only bar until a seat opens up for you. You can't just take a seat though. They'll come get you and show you which one is specifically yours. The drinks are in the over $10 range. Limited menu is also available.
Review Source:Lo-hi Library. SIKE. Wandered in after dins @ Root Down, & realized we weren't going to check out any books anytime soon at 11pm. Why are there so many reservations for this place? Because it's pretty bada$$. A tucked away speakeasy, with tons of character. And a cuuutie at the front room ;)
Light switches, and knocking on doors, and entrances, and reservations. That's BESIDES the wall of classic liquors and unlimited possibilities in this speakeasy.
Happened to wander in here on a Wednesday night after dinner with some coworkers, and we are glad we did! We had to wait for a few minutes, since we didn't have a reservation, but the host was nice and chatted and joked with us in the "booksellers' shop" front for this great speakeasy.
We didn't stay long enough for more than one drink, but the one I did have, the Twelve Dollar Cocktail, was quite good. The ambiance was great, the bartenders were nice, and the whole vibe was relaxed and just a great way to finish off our night.
I highly recommend this place.
"Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came..."
I have found my new favorite place to get away. Â So this isn't exactly Cheers. Â It's much hipper, set behind a bookcase in a dimly lit bar (I liked the decor and lighting). Â But everybody knew my name. Â I'm horrible with names, so I would of been fired from here in 10 seconds flat. Â And everybody really seemed glad I came. Â I've never been to a bar with a nicer staff of people. Â They made me want to stay and keep drinking, even when I knew I was going to hit my limit. Â The extensive drink menu was awesome, and bacon beignets sealed the deal. Â I'll be back again soon! Â Will you remember my name next time when I'm trying to get in without a reservation? Â Please? Â It wasn't a problem this time, but you can't fault me for hoping that it'll be just as easy next time!
Williams and Graham is THE prohibition bar in Denver. Â I like Green Russell, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely wallowing in the shadows of Dub and G.
You walk in to a book case-secret door, which is really fun and sets you up for the perfect ambiance this place has. Â The bartenders are professionals, literally. Â This is what they do and they do it really well. I like my whiskey, but had a recommendation from Blake (a server) to try the vieu carre. Â It was pretty darn amazing and while this place definitely comes with a price tag, it's worth every penny.
There is talk that they might open the rooftop this summer, is there a 6th star that we can add if they do?
Sent a friend here with his date about a week ago. Â I told him 'you're welcome,' prior to the date - he thanked me after (for multiple reasons).
Great spot.

You will really enjoy this hidden speakeasy bar. Â It is a real gem and the bartenders (mixologists) are passionate about what they do. Â It is an experience like no other. The space is very intimate, harkening back to prohibition days. They have a tremendous collection of unique liquors. One drink I had was their W&G selected Knob Creek whisky, which was the best KC I've ever tasted. The old old fashioned was fantastic.
Jason, Sam and Allison were like old friends.
Williams & Graham is heralding spring with their fantastic cocktails. I met my Rochester friends here this early evening because I wanted them to have a great Denver cocktail experience. W&G is the place to be.
Spring is in full force with cocktails featuring spicy housemade ginger beer, snap peas, carrots, celery, basil and more. If you want to experience how a single garnish tranforms your drink, order Spring Ahead, a simple gin and pear liqueur based cocktail that arugula's particular aromatic scent influences. If you want to show off Denver spirits to your visiting friends, order the Four Leos with 4 Leopold Bros spirits. Then allow the conversation to lead into a discussion of volume and viscosity.
If you're into spice, colorful drinks that pack punch, order the D-Swizzle. I hope you like your ginger spicy because that taste lingers. And if you're into Green Chartreuse's herbaceous notes and missed your veggies, try the Green Acres. It's foamy, slightly sugary (snap peas), and herbal. Goes well with dinner.
I can't get enough of W&G. While you're at it, try their food. Post crossfit workout, the Citrus Marinated Steak sandwich with gruyere, grilled onion, and fridge pickle was a perfect way to begin my recovery then descent into beautiful alcoholic beverages. A well balanced life is a fun life.
In the heart of the highlands. The entry way has a bookcase that opens into the dark bar/dining area - pretty cool. Â The exit is out the back - like it was back in prohibition days.
Sat at the bar with 2 friends. Bartender was trying a little too hard. He/she (don't want to incriminate employees) acted like they knew everything, when they really didn't. They're supposed to be experts so they acted the part when the pressure was on, when it'd be more comfortable if they'd just relax a little bit and not be so stuffy.
Cocktails were great & reasonably priced considering the pomp & circumstance.
The owner/manager was real nice. Checked on all the patrons more than once.
Overall: enjoyable experience, although it felt like they were trying a little too hard. The "coolness" wasn't completely authentic, a bit manufactured.
Definitely one of my favorite places to visit in Denver. The hallmark of a good speakeasy? My buddy drives past this place almost daily and didn't know it existed! A great one? Drinks that make it worth the wait. Yes, there is a wait to get in and you need reservations. So go down the street, have a couple while you wait. Don't worry, they'll call you.
Inside, looks like a tiny old school bookstore with two ladies behind a counter... The bar is actually behind the bookshelf and they have a red LED light that comes on when it's ok to open the secret door (bookshelf).... to a dimly lit portal to a time when people took pride in crafting classic cocktails. I didn't really look at the extensive menu but our waitress made some suggestions based on our interests and seemed to nail it. The Blackberry Sage Smash and The Wolf are my personal favs.
I came by after dinner, so I didn't get a chance to try any of their food, but from what I saw (and these reviews), there looks to be some excellent options.
In the end, my buddy said he felt like a total a** for not taking his wife here... so I guess we'll all be back soon.
Williams and Graham makes you feel pretty awesome. It's impossibly cool - hidden behind a wall, dimly lit with impeccable handcrafted cocktails.
But, while I appreciate their craft and mission, I have found my last few experiences there...pretentious? No one bothers learning our names anymore, making me feel less awesome. Also - and now I feel like I'm being picky - I just don't care for the musical selection.
Despite my grievances, I will no doubt return.
Slightly overrated. No... Quite overrated. $10 unique drinks in a dimly lit space. There's a guy behind the bar cutting blocks of ice with a saw. The other lady was chipping away at ice cubes to make them fit in glasses. The drinks are crazy strong as they should be for $10. It makes sense to come here to drink and not eat. The food wasn't worth eating. We had the
::Deviled eggs: old rubbery eggs not made fresh on this day. Rubbery like they had been pickled but they weren't. All different shapes and sizes with different amounts of filling and a sprig of cauliflower. Wtf
::Bblt: pork & bacon on white toast with 8 potato chips. The sandwich was reallllly good. I wanted more and I wanted to know who ate all my chips!. $12
::Meatloaf toast: one slice of white toast with a lunch meat sized sliver of meatloaf topped with melted velveta. $8!
I get it, over price the food so the kitchen isn't busy & make it so dark that your senses are off kilter. Well done.
Whoa, no way - a hidden restaurant behind a book shelf?! Uhh, AWESOME. Oh wow, it is DARK in here. Â Like, REALLY dark. Jesus Christ. Â Oh, uh, what would I like to start off with? Â Er... I probably need a minute to let my eyes adjust - just bring me anything with pork in it and your most popular drink. Â
*Moments later*
(Sips drink) Oh holy Christ, this drink tastes like God. Â (Sips drink) Holy hell, this is good - what is that smokey flavor? DID THEY SMOKE THIS F*&%ING DRINK?! (Shoves pork in face) OH GOD THAT'S GOOD! YES. TOTALLY. DIGGING THIS.
This is a great place. Â We had to get on the list far in advance, and it was sort of a pain to time our arrival with their availability, but once we were in, I enjoyed myself. Â The drinks they made were superb, with the large pieces of carved ice that are associated with an old fashioned drink. Â Our buddy got a steak that looked amazing, and wasn't very overpriced. Â
I really loved our visit here, it was fun, very dark, and almost seemed like a trip back in time. Â However, the fact that we NEEDED to be at the door RIGHT when they called was a little ridiculous, especially when we ended up waiting ten minutes in the 8x8 lobby before we were seated. Â If it hadn't been for the unnecessary rush and hassle to get through the door, this would be a five star place.
True love in the form of a speakeasy. You just can't go wrong.
While pricey, you're getting every cent worth of what you're buying. Â The drinks are incredible--reminiscent of another era. Â The atmosphere transports you. Â The service is excellent. The food is YUM YUM YUM. Â
Surprise out of town guests (but don't tell them where you're taking them). Â Prob great for a third-ish date (but not first). Prob not good for large groups.
This is the sort of place you go for the "experience", and I'm totally fine with that. My first thought? It's basically pitch dark in there. If that's something that will annoy you, you may want to skip it.
They have an EXTENSIVE (I feel like I've used that word before, without every really understanding what it could mean) drink list. I thought our server had forgotten to bring the drink list, because it didn't even cross my mind that it could be the gigantic book on our table. The cocktails are expensive (and NO happy hour), but worth checking out. As someone who doesn't like sweet drinks, I was impressed with their offerings of creative mixed drinks that weren't sweet.
The service was friendly and prompt, and they really knew their way around the menu. We had a great time, and I will definitely go back for a "special occasion" type outing, although the prices make it a little prohibitive (!) for an any time bar.
I stopped in here when I was visiting friends in Denver. Â Great little spot, but not exactly a speakeasy experience I was expecting. Â The fake storefront was a little cheesy, but still fun. Â
Drinks were delicious and the bartenders definitely knew their stuff. Â Food was pretty good, but not that memorable. Â Glad we stopped in and tried something new in Denver. Â Probably won't go back since I am not a local. Â Too many other places to try.
Let's get this off the bar table right here. I'll drink just about anywhere as long as the barstool isn't sticky and there's not "bottle service." Ok. I'll drink at places with bottle service, but I'll probably make fun of the people paying for bottle service. Unless I'm somehow getting it for free.
But still, there's a lot to be said about a bar that has spectacular ambiance, professionally made drinks (like, legit drinks), is hidden behind a bookshelf and still has some of the most friendly, unpretentious staff I've ever experienced at a place like this. So often bartenders (I refuse to call them mixologists), get caught up in their craft and begin comparing themselves to other and can get to have a real sense of elitism.
I get the feeling that, while this staff probably unwinds with some of the best damned cocktails you've ever seen, they would be more than happy to show up to a BBQ in flip flops and drink cold beer all day. Whether that's the case or not, I don't know. I digress.
When I have a cocktail, I like to be subtly reminded that I'm drinking hard liquor so I don't slug the drink back like a refreshing lemonade. I don't want the full body shivers either. 'Grats to W&G for making a drink that was that perfect mix.
The food was just as good as the drinks. I had the roast pork sandwich and it knocked my face right off.
It was a great evening spent with a wonderful friend and I can't wait to go back!
Having loved Green Russel and having seen that this place had higher reviews, I was beyond excited to come here for my birthday.
But there were problems:
I got a call just after 4pm on the same day as my reservation saying that, if I wanted my table to actually be reserved, I had to call them back. Â Isn't that what a reservation is? Â I called back, and the phone went to voice mail the first time. Â The second time, I was able to reserve my reservation.
When I got there, my friend had not yet arrived. Â I walked into the reception area, and there were no seats. Â It was super small, with just a host stand and walls. Â I felt awkward, and said as much, and ended up waiting 15 minutes outside before I was cold enough to go back in and ask if I could sit without her.
The hostess wasn't the most pleasant person to deal with.
Our server didn't seem thrilled about custom mixing a cocktail, which is what we both were most looking forward to.
I ended up getting two cocktails off the menu, both of which I didn't really like.
My friend got a cocktail that tasted purely of ginger, which she is allergic to, even though it did not mention ginger beer nor ginger ale on the description. Â The server said it was just a floater and isn't listed on the menu as part of the drink, but it was seriously all ginger.
The good thing is that she took it back and had it remade without the floater.
It was much louder than Green Russell. Â I couldn't talk. Â I had to yell.
We split the check, and my friend got charged both the split amount and the full amount and is now getting overdraft fees.
Really, I wasn't impressed. Â How this place gets better reviews than Green Russell is beyond me.
Excellent spot. Â If you have a group - be sure to call ahead to reserve a space. Â Take note that this space may be just a reservation for standing at a bookcase-shelf. Â Be sure to specify if you want an actual table/booth. Â If there's just a couple of you arriving it's advisable to arrive early or be prepared for a long wait.
We enjoyed excellent cocktails and some small plates that were pretty good. Â If you don't see something on the menu that you like - just let them know what type of liquor you enjoy and flavors and they'll make you up something good. Â For me, they made an excellent cucumber-gin cocktail. Â Another lady in our group requested something similar to a mojito and unfortunately what she received was nothing in the ballpark of a mojito. Â The server did make her another cocktail which worked out well.
While there is booth seating along the wall, there is also several bar seats as well as an area that slightly overlooks the bar. Â That's where I want to sit next - reminds me of the Muppet critics in the theater.
So, don't hesitate. Â Call for a reservation and swing open that bookcase for an evening of enjoyable cocktails.
Based on the other reviews, I obviously need to give this place another try. Â I went on a weeknight with a group of girlfriends and they weren't busy-- so I expected better service. Â It was MARGINAL-- and I'm being generous. Â We had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for drinks to come, and she was not at all attentive as to when we needed more water or another cocktail.
I'll have to try the place again, but I'm definitely not feeling motivated to go back.
Fantastic evening. Yes, it is pricey. But guess what? You get what you pay for and an evening here is well worth the check at the end of the evening. I am a whiskey lover, so this place is heaven. The atmosphere, the old time drinks, and the EXTREMELY accommodating staff made the evening lovely.
My partner's steak was slightly over cooked, but it was definitely still edible. She mentioned it to Joe, our bartender, and he immediately sent it back. Not only was the second steak prepared to perfection, they comped it, which was more than generous.
I cannot wait to go back!!!
This is such a cool little joint. Â They will sneak you in thru a hidden bookshelf and everything!
Tons of different types of drinks to choose from. Â I tried a fig drink. Â It was good... then I just asked for a few of my favorite ingredients and magically had the best drink ever! Â It was some kind of basil, cucumber, gin, goodness. Â Thanks Joe!
They do have a limited menu. Â We ordered a meat and cheese plate - just some snacks. Â I did see other folks order larger plates - it all looked really good.
The staff was really friendly and knowledgeable. Â And I, being an "out of towner", will totally give extra points for that.
Williams and Graham - When I plan another Denver trip, you can guarantee I'll stop in again!
You see... Â You go here for a nice whiskey drink. Â And they can oblige. They classic drink selection here is wonderful and the entryway is totally cool, walking through an open bookshelf into the dark and mysterious backroom. Â
The staff is also WAY awesome. Â They found out that my Ladyhawk and I were there for our anniversary and gave us a tasty treat, which ruled. Â In addition to that nicety, they also gave great drink recommendations and were very well educated on their large menu. Â
If I had anything to give critical feedback on, it would be the small plates. Â I wasn't super impressed by the selection. I thought everything was "good" but nothing blew me away. Â I can't even really explain why. Â But such is life I guess. Â
Overall, I really had a great time here and I loved taking Tiffany.
Shh! It's a secret...
OK, not really. I'm all for speakeasies that have a sense of humor and don't take themselves too seriously (unlike a certain bar located in downtown San Jose... you know who I'm talking about!). Even better if they make a good cocktail. This my friends, is Williams & Graham.
I was in the Denver area about the same time last year, right before this hidden spot opened its doors. While waiting for a table at LoHi Steak Bar, we were wandering the area, looking for a bar to grab a quick drink. We walked by this exact location and got in an argument on whether or not it was a bookstore or a bar. Tiffany N wins that bet, which isn't surprising since it happens more often than not.
Fast forward to this past weekend. I'm back in the Mile High City and jonesing for a good steak. To LoHi we go! On a Saturday night without a reservation, the wait is at least an hour. No worries, Mr Host, we'll be across the street.
Get to Williams & Graham before 8 pm if you don't want to wait terribly long. Lucky for us, we nabbed the last booth available. The ladies up front at the "book store" (yes they really do sell books) were absolutely lovely, taking our names and making sure we were escorted to the bar in old timey style. Creative drink menu for sure, although I tend to stick with the traditional St. Germain cocktail or French 75. These folks know how to make a French 75, might I add?
An hour went by in a flash! After only one drink and some light bites, we were having a great time. But with all good things, they must come to an end. Plus, this is the type of experience that needs to be shared, why hog the booth all night? As we left out the back door, giggling and slightly tipsy, we bid a fond adieu to Williams & Graham.
Until next time!
I have always wanted to own a home with a secret room behind a swinging bookshelf and until I own one I'm happy to know that I can go to Williams & Graham and get my fix of seeing the faux book shelf swing out and let me into what's probably cooler than any secret room I'd have in my house.
For our 2 year wedding anniversary Sir Nicholas and I made reservations at Williams & Graham and it was a wonderful way to celebrate. The folks here do a fantastic job of making an evening feel special, including sending us over a little card with a complimentary dessert (bacon beignets!), but truthfully I think they make people feel special on regular days too. When you are seated the servers ask your names and then call you by them all evening like you are old friends. They can make seriously good recommendations for all the spirits you may want to drink. And they are friendly, funny, and good at their jobs.
Of course they are well known for cocktails and I enjoyed quite a few the night I went including the Blackberry Sage Smash (Williams & Graham Select Single Barrel Knob Creek , fresh blackberries, sage, lemon, and sugar), a Gin Fizz (made with Leopold Bros gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and soda water), and a New-Old Fashioned (Maker's Mark, orange, house cherries, Angostura bitters, sugar, soda water.) Lots of different drinks and not a bad one in the bunch!
And Nick and I also ate dinner here. They do feature 3 entree specials of the evening as well as a variety of small plates. That's plenty for me to choose from, but it's a good fact to know if you prefer more options that that. Nick and I order pretty much the entire menu to share. We had:
- Spanish Olives with manchego and marcona almonds
- Deviled Eggs with watercress and sriracha
- Pork Belly with peach/corn salsa and melon balls
- A beet salad with butter lettuce, snap peas, pea shoots, chèvre, tarragon vinaigrette
- The BBLT sandwich (pork belly, bacon, butter lettuce, mixed tomatoes, mayonnaise and a side of chips)
- A steak with chimichurri salad, grilled onion, and steak sauce
Out of all of it the BBLT was my favorite. If you love pork you should definitely give this sandwich a try. And as I mentioned above they also sent over an order of the Bacon Beignets. These were divine. More savory than sweet, the three little dough pillows were a perfect texture, brushed in powdered sugar, and a delicious ending to our meal.
I will definitely be back to visit again, for food, cocktails, or both. And you should definitely plan on checking this place out if you haven't yet.
