This place has excellent wine and beer. I would come here all the time if it was busier. When we were there we were the only people in the entire place. How can this be possible. We got great service because of it but it made us feel uncomfortable. If I were to do it again I'd do a quick walk by see if anyone is there and if so definitely go in.
Review Source:This is a true hidden gem, I wished I found this place sooner, it's a great place to relax, enjoy some nice wine and some good food with great company. I love how classy it is, just entering the venue makes you ready to have a few glass of wine. Not much to eat here, but let's be honest, we are all here for the wine! Located in downtown Long beach, by the beach and where the night life of long beach happens. Â It is in a building where condominiums are and apartments are on the top levels. Â Lots of parking on Ocean blvd., so no need to fear that. There are a lot of restaurants around here if you are looking for some good eating before your drinking consumption of wine and beer! You can actually order pizza right next door, and they would bring it to you while you are consuming your wine here.
Great selections of wine and beer, love the atmosphere and the cozy and comfy place that this place has. Â I would totally come here for a nice little birthday party or some kind of celebration! Â Not too loud, not too crazy and chaotic, just the right place to enjoy a first date maybe, or enjoying your time with friends.
Try the cheese plate, everyone here that comes here order it, very good and has a lot of varieties. Â The people there know their wine, they give you a lot of recommendations and feedback on which one of their wine is a must try, ask them, they will definitely help you. Very friendly staff, love their service.
I would totally come back to this place, had a great time, just wish they stay open a lot later.
I'm so grateful to have discovered this spot. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. One of the bartenders/owners, Mike, has great instincts for customer's individual tastes in wine, and will also make suggestions to expand your palette. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the decor is classic and understated. The regulars are also really friendly. Many of them live in the surrounding apartment buildings, and know eachother pretty well, but are also open to meeting new folks, and will happily introduce themselves. And...the wine. Oh my god...the wine. Fabulous.
Review Source:Hidden little gem located in the retail portion of the Camden Harbor View Apartments. Fortunately for me a quick elevator ride down.
Great wine and beer selection, some plates available but Buono's is just next door. Alex iss fantastic and really knows his stuff. Also, his iPod music selection doesn't suck.
Hei s also rolling out a line of beef jerky based on his grandfather's recipes. Very cool!
Great lil wine bar in downtown Long Beach. Walking distance to restaurants, the beach and the night scene. Pretty good selection of wine. Not much to eat but I'm not there for the food. Atmosphere is cozy and not too loud. Perfect for time alone, 1st dates or just to chill with a small crowd.
New fav place to drink some wine and begin my night.
What a classy little wine bar in the heart of downtown Long Beach on Ocean Boulevard.
My business partner and I met up with a friend of ours for drinks and dinner while we were in Long Beach on a business trip. All three of us are big fans of good wine and great eats, so we knew we were in for a treat when Nancy suggested that we meet at a place called The Wine Bar.
By the way Yelpers, the Wine Bar offers a discount off your bill just by checking in on your Yelp app.
The Wine Bar is on the street level of a large condominium / apartment complex, and there is plenty of parking out along Ocean Blvd. The place is small (read that as intimate, and not cramped), with a delightful mixture of comfy sofas and chairs, along with traditional café seating and high-top stools in front of the bar. There is a massive floor-to-ceiling shelving unit to display all of their varieties of wine. You can purchase bottles to go at a tremendously discounted price!!!!
The Wine Bar offers wine, craft beers, and a small tapas menu. Some nights they feature local musicians, and other nights they turn on the TVs over the bar and watch sports.
We got there in time for Happy Hour, and all three of us ordered the flight of Reds, which turned out to be a sampler glass of Chilean Pinot Noir, a California Merlot, and a Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon for each of us. Along with the extremely delicious wine, we also ordered a cheese, sausages, and olives platter to enjoy while we sat and chatted. We each had our favorites wines out of the trio -- mine was the California Tin Roof Merlot 2008, and so I ordered a full glass of the Merlot to enjoy with my dinner.
The Wine Bar does not have a full kitchen, however they have an arrangement with Buono's Pizza & Italian Restaurant right next door. We walked over to Buono's, placed an order for food, and then returned to The Wine Bar to wait delivery of our meal. In a short while the delivery guy showed up, and we were able to enjoy our meals with superb glasses of wine.
We talked at length with the bartender (I believe his name was Mike?), and got a lot of feedback on the different types of wine that they had available.
On my next trip to Long Beach I will definitely buy a couple of bottles of Tin Roof Merlot and smuggle them home in my suitcase.
I live atop this Wine bar. I was pleasantly surprised when I got locked out of my place one day. I came down here to wait for help and of course decided I needed a glass of wine. This place is really simple. they have wine and a few beers and a few tapas. it's a great place to kick off a night or just for a casual hangout with friends, if you don't want to get too fancy. Definitely worth checking out and sometimes they have a DJ. You can also play games here, which in my opinion is perfect. The fact that its a stone's throw from my place helps a lot.
Review Source:The Wine Bar is a really great spot and I wish we had longer then we did! Â Stopped by for some drinks before dinner. Â Split a white wine flight for $11. Â Not knowing too much about white wines, we were directed towards three (after explaining our tastes and preferences) by our sommelier, who was spot on! Â The interior is beautifully decorated, the sommelier was very helpful and friendly and the wine was delicious! Â We will certainly be back... hopefully for longer!
Review Source:My first of many visits to this establishment . Alex is a great host / owner . They have a very nice beer selection even though its a wine bar . You can get an appetizer from the menu or order a pizza from next door and eat it there . a great location downtown with a cool vibe !
Cannot wait to go back
Thanks Alex !
I want to honor and acknowledge Alex: The Consummate Sommelier. Now, in reading Yelp reviews I can see he is a co-owner...no matter I'm stickin' with Consummate Sommelier. Â A friend and I took advantage of a Google offer here as I live walking distance away. Â As I have said before, I am not a wine person, but this afforded a new experience. Â I studied the menu online prior to our visit. Â there were many wines I wanted to sample yet, I did not know the appropriate protocol to go about getting so many samples. Â Alex was AWESOME!! I experienced him as service oriented. Â Translation: he offered me the service I was too uncomfortable to ask for. Â I enjoyed the samples, enjoyed the wine I decided on (a $10 or $11 Riesling), my friend enjoyed the beer, we also had hummus and spinach dip. Â We made sure to tip on the price before discount AND THEN SOME, Alex deserved it! Â Come down and enjoy! Â
Street parking/metered .
WARNING: Â Awesomeness inside!
This place is fabulous! Â My friend brought me here one random day after running in to her at a random Starbucks nowhere near LB. Â I am so glad we came (and came again!). They have great wines at great prices (especially if you come for happy hour).
We had a few glasses, got a good buzz going on, and said our ecstatic farewells (I was leaving for Europe, and she was leaving for Paris a few days after I return...annoying, huh!)
Their beer selection isn't extensive, but the choices they offer are mostly good. Â She and I have totally opposing tastes in beer, and we each found 2-3 things we liked, so I'd say that's pretty good!
Ambiance-wise, the interior and back patio are great. Â We mostly sit outside (sometimes puffing on cigars), next to the cute little pond back there. Â A few people come for a glass with their dogs as well. Â The only thing that would put that back patio over-the-top for me is if there was a live band back there. Â I think I would make the drive all the way down to LB on a regular for great drinks, wonderful vibes, and incredible music...
I found this place through groupon so my friend and I decided to try it last night for my birthday. Â We had the best time ever! Â I live in the area and I wish I would have known about this place sooner. Â We got the cheese plate, pesto flatbread, a glass of wine each and then the flight tasting. Â What a deal! Â Everything was excellent. Â Alex, the owner, was welcoming, super friendly, and every wine he recommended for tasting was delish. Â
We both can't wait to come back. Â This is a Long Beach must. Â Oh and you can sign up for a free bottle of wine on your birthday. Â Free wine? yes please!
A beautiful place inside, and the bartender/server was a little overwhelmed at the group we had there. Â And seemed bored/not interested. Â For a place called "The Wine Bar", most people were having beer.
Great decor / atmosphere, but horribly terribly hard to find from the street. Â GPS addresses all have it wrong, apparently, and it's hidden behind/inside an apartment complex with bad signage.
Tried it out this evening after walking around the Belmont beach in the afternoon. Right in the heart of downtown on Ocean, sorta hard to get to from the east, but not impossible; pull in just past it and then curl around through the complex to the retail parking in the middle (hideously expensive, but they validate, thank god!).
Really nice vibe to the place, very attractive setup. Nice selection of wines (and beers) and munchies. BF got a beer, I got a flight of 3 wines, and we split the cheese plate (highly recommended!) Bartender was very helpful and had good suggestions both on the beer and the wine.
Very highly recommended. Would be five star if it was a little more accessible and just a tad cheaper. But it's a serious winner.
I found The Wine Bar online and it looked like a pretty cool spot to go and grab a glass of wine with the wife. It is located on Ocean Blvd and parking is a bit of a problem down there so I ended up parking in the 3rd Street Parking garage and walking. I learned that The Wine Bar does validate so you can pull into that road right next to it with the stones on it and they will validate for you.
I loved the vibe in here. We headed straight for the oversized super comfy house and got a cheese plate and a couple of glasses of wine. The also have a good selection of beer here as well if that is your thing.
The music was nice and not to load, the ambiance was perfect! I wish all places could be like this. They have an art gallery and a packman game in the back so they pretty much have it all. I will be back to visit you soon Wine Bar.
Dropped into this place on a Tuesday night and enjoyed it. The wine pourings are very generous, while affordable(as previous Yelp reviews pointed out), and the bartender was very down to earth.
For food, I ordered the Truffle Black Mushroom Pizza. I thought it was okay- to be honest it almost tasted like a store bought pizza frozen that was thrown into the oven and pulled out 10 minutes later. It wasn't the rustic style I was expecting. That aside, the wine was great and the locals made up for it. Â
Would recommend this place for those looking to get a nice nightcap serving of wine :)
Really great ambience... Â And they have double bastard on tap! Â The owner of the place has some really great taste in beer and wine. Â I really enjoyed all the beers that I had, the sampling that he provided, and the wine me and my girlfriend had.
This is one of the rare places that we went to with an amazon local voucher and would go back without the deal in an instant! Â I just wished that I lived a little closer.
Try the beers on tap, the oregon pinot noirs, and the sangio that I had was good too. Â We were also fans of the cheese plate, but nothing other than your average cheese plate there.
I live above this place, so most of the time I'm popping down to pick up a quick bottle because I'm lazy and don't want to go to the store or we've just finished the last of whatever we're drinking. Â Their prices are reasonable for a wine bar and the convenience makes it worth it for me. Â
The owners and bartenders are extremely friendly and helpful.
I went here with a couple of friends for their happy hour (4-7 pm) on a weekday. Happy hour was, I believe, $2 off all the wine (minus tastings). Got 10% off for mentioning Yelp, but this only applied to the food and not the already discounted wine.
This being my first wine bar experience, I walked in with few expectations except good wine and service, both of which I received. We also ordered a cheese plate, but it was only okay.
The ambiance is nice and intimate. It was fairly quiet (although there were only 4 other people there at the time) and easy to sit and talk with my friends.
Regarding parking, you can either park on Ocean Blvd and pay for the meter, or you can park within the apartment complex for up to 2 hours with validation. After that, I highly suggest moving your car unless you have money to blow.
Would definitely go here again! The only bad experience I had here was spilling my wine on myself. I wasn't drunk, I swear.
A great neighborhood gem!
We went here to use our expiring Groupon.
1st time we went, they had a fundraiser event so we decided not to go in order not to pay the cover...
2nd time we went was awesome!
It was pretty packed in the beginning and super packed to the point of no more seats by the mid-night, which was surprising considering that it was only Wednesday.
The main reason why my bf fell in love with this place was because of the TV screens that were playing the Lakers which reminded me a crossover of a pub & a wine bar! It was nice, as I typically enjoy the fancier, more boozier wine bars when drinking wine vs. bf wants the chill, small cozy spots for locals.
The crowd was diverse and everyone seemed to be so "at-home". The bartenders were super chill & we also met nice elderly couple who offered to take a picture for us! So overall, good feeling!
They had decent wine list as well as beer list, which suited both myself & the bf! Price wasn't too high either!
Being the hungry couple we were, we ordered 3 dishes (out of the oh....5 they have?)
-Spinach dip: very sour.. hmm. but bf enjoyed it
-Hummus dip
-Flatbread: it was pesto based, and bf was sad that there was no meat on it!
So as long as you are not starved, you will be fine, but if you are coming directly from work, do grab some dinner before heading here!
We will be returning sometimes soon to use the 10% check-in offer and probably many more after that as the bartenders were cool & the place was just so cozy and comfortable!
I wish I can have a wine bar like this "nearer"!
Great local find....a little disappointed that I didn't know about this place earlier because I would have been more often. Â Oh well, better late than never.
It was a pleasure meeting one of the owners and watching him interact with everyone in the bar. Â Great hospitality and attention to his customers gives the establishment a very local, relaxed ambiance.
We were looking for a wine bar and a little snack around 8pm on a Tuesday night! Â It's funny because wine bars aren't open that late since most of them close around 10pm. Â What better place to have wine than a place called "The Wine Bar"? Â We took it as a sign and headed to Long Beach since they closed at 11pm on a Tuesday night. Â The place was rather hard to find and small - It is actually apart of the Long Beach Apartment Complex on Ocean. Â I guess it would be awesome if I lived there since it would just be a trip down the stairs. Â But I don't, so parking was a bit difficult. Â We ended up parallel parking at the meters and had a little walk.
My friend ordered a beer, which ultimately ended up on my pants and shoes when we decided to move from the bar to their comfy couches! Â The bartender/owner was really nice. Â She tipped over her beer - I tried to catch it! Â I caught the glass, but not the beer! hahaha, I ended up with most of the beer on my clothes, the floor, and on their couch! Â We felt super bad, but he was really nice and even gave my friend another glass of beer. Â
My order, on the other hand did not come with a dramatic scene at the bar, was a glass of Moscato! Â It was a specific brand that I haven't heard of and if I was not the driver, believe me when I tell you that I could have enjoyed another couple of glasses! Â mMmMmm. Â We also ordered their spinach and cheese concoction with pita bread. Â It was a really nice spread that went well with both our wine and beer!
Don't worry, this story has a happy ending. Â We really enjoyed ourselves and naturally tipped really well for all the drama that was caused with the beer incident. Â We will definitely return again on some random night for their wine, excellent service, and cute atmosphere (a little artsy, a little sporty). Â Now knowing that you get 10% off with the mention of yelp and that they are on http://restaurant.com - this return may be sooner rather than later!
A memorable experience...
Based on other yelp reviews and someone's suggestion, I recently made a trip here to spend some one on one time catching up, etc. But wouldn't you know it? We saunter up to the bar (slightly passed happy hour due to traffic from where I was in DTLA) and a woman sits next to us who thinks she knows me. Honestly, this happens to me all the time. When I break it to her that we've never met, she was a good sport about it, and we laughed, but she stated she was there with a Meet Up group! I've heard great things about Meet Up, but of all the times for me to try this place out, there was a large, loud Meet Up event here that night when I just wanted a little quiet time. Made me laugh! I started to wonder if that is how people feel when a yelp event invades a bar. Haha! Sorry to all you out there who we have descended upon!
Anyway, the bartender was really cool and actually extended the happy hour price for our first round, So, again at the suggestion of the person I was with, we ordered a wonderful Pinot Noir from Paso - Vampire. $6 at the happy hour price. Yummy! 2 rounds please!
I was actually only there for the company, and enjoyed myself immensely once we ditched the Meet up lady so we could talk more openly (hazard of my personality is that I meet people too easily and have to shut it down at times when I just want to pay attention to who I am with). The person I was with thought she might have been flirting with me, but I don't think so. She was just friendly.
Back to the review...
Wine Bar seemed to have a nice wine selection and decent price point options. However, the surfaces in the room were all hard (get your mind out of the gutter! i am talking about the floor, ceiling and walls). Anyway, this made for difficulty to hear and talk with such a large loud group there. I'd say soften the atmosphere a bit and maybe play some soft music to tone things down and you'd get another star out of me. On the other hand, they did have several flat screens with baseball on (a little distracting for me), but I loved it because I can't always enjoy a fine wine AND baseball at the same time (GOOOO DODGERS!). And, my company was great, and a complete gentleman.... ah...what a treat! :o) Memorable in deed.
I think this is the only wine bar open on Monday's, which turned out to be a big plus for us and them. Â We tried a couple other places and this was it. Â And by the time we left, it was pretty busy. Â Being right on Ocean Blvd, parking isn't the best but there's a pay public lot a couple of blocks away and of course street side meter parking.
I almost drove right by The Wine Bar because I didn't expect it to be part of the store front of the new LB Apartment Homes. Â It's situated between a coffee shop and a pizza parlor, which the patrons seemed to take full advantage of. Â We saw people walking back and forth, ordering food and picking up snacks from the other shops. Â I even saw the pizza place deliver pizzas and salad to the group of cougars yucking it up on the couches behind us. Â That's convenient, since the bar offers no food.
The Wine Bar has a decent wine selection of more than a couple dozens of whites and reds. Â Wine seemed moderately priced. Â We went with the $10 flights. Â And they also offer draft and bottled beer, which seemed to give the guys a reason to stay while, most of the chicks gulped down their Happy Hour wine. Â The bar also has a couple of TVs for sports, and I think for those beer-drinking BFs. Â I kind of liked the mix of people, except for the pretentious, overly foul-mouthed guy next to me. Â It's pretty casual. Â But I don't think the cougars got that memo.
My only complaint was the music. Â Way too f'ing loud!!! Â I don't mind loud and I don't mind having to raise my voice a little, but the sound system was as loud as having a live band... I hate that. Â It's excessive. Â Oh yeah, and they have only one bathroom which sucks when you're third in line and someone is puking. Â But you can always go across the courtyard and use the complex's public WC. Â
Overall, I like this place and the I'd go back. Â It's pretty easy going and the bartender/owner was nice. Â We got a couple of glasses of some old stinky wine and he was accommodating enough to open a new bottle. Â Thanks.
It's kind of bogus and ironic that Nick and I found this place on one of our last days in Long Beach. The reason being that while this is a wine bar it is also a Nuggets bar and Sir Nicholas being from Colorado is a huge, huge Nuggets fan. The owners moved from Colorado too so that's the reason for the alliance.
Besides the Nuggets side of things it's a pretty cool space with a nice selection of wine and beers. There isn't really a restaurant portion per se, but you can order small plates like hummus with pita or a cheese plate. While the cheeses are the fancier variety it is a really simple menu item. And if you get hungry you can always order food from next door and bring it in with you because the owners are nice like that.
I'd like to see this place do really well and be able to give them five stars someday. Â With that said, I stopped in with a friend on an early weekday afternoon and was not blown away.
The pours were generous and the service very friendly. Â They did have some interesting wines available but I'd like to see a bit more diversity in the list. Â If they keep the rotation dynamic enough then that would make up for it a bit (perhaps they do, I've only been there once).
They have beer on tap, and while I think that is a fantastic idea for a wine bar it lends to a confusing identity. Â For example, all of the TVs had sports on which isn't a bad thing necessarily but now we are getting really close to a bar that just so happens to have some wine so the focus gets a bit lost. Â My recommendation is to mix it up a bit and put something else on a couple of the other TVs. Â Oh, and do something about that music playlist. Â Again, diversify and song loops--not good.
My biggest complaint was that the red pours were not chilled to proper temperature. Â I'd like to see more lounge space (i.e. couches, armchairs, side tables) than tables and chairs because it helps people to relax and get comfortable while enjoying the wine. Â Again, this all comes back to what this place is trying to be... a bar that happens to serve wine or a wine bar that happens to serve beer?
Apparently you can order food from the italian place next door. Â That's great and the outdoor area in back has some promise. Â I hope the owners execute well, there is a lot of potential here. Â Just chill the damn reds while putting a bit more effort into the list and folks like me can overlook a lot of the secondary aspects while those things are brought into order.
I'll be back and paying close attention.
Popped in last weekend for a few glasses of wine after hearing about it on Yelp. Their selection was varied, and I took up Nikol H. on the Fat Cat Pino Grigio- crisp and a full bouquet, and reasonably priced at $8 a glass.
When we went, a group was celebrating a birthday with cupcakes, and decided to share them with the entire wine bar! Wine and cupcakes end up going super well together.
So, why only 3 stars? Only person was working, and seemed swamped the entire team. Compared to 4th and Vine, seemed to lack the intimacy. We would have ordered more wine if the line wasn't so long. If you are looking for a new place to try, check it out.
I liked the relaxed atmosphere of this place. They had a great selection of music at the right volume. We sat in the corner on the couches, which added to the mood. Mike and Alex are the owners and the wines they recommended were dead on. He recommended a white blend, which was about as good as I have had. Later in the evening he hooked us up with his Woodstock selection, which was higher end but he had a bit left. It was a phenomenal wine!
This is a great option if you're heading out to downtown afterwards. Also, there is happy hour where wines are $5 so it is worth checking out. As someone pointed out, there is nothing pretentious about this place and it's quite inviting. Some other places I have been to make it intimidating to even walk thru the doors- not the case here.
I went here for a private birthday party on a Friday night, so I am not sure how the place is regularly. The selection of chilled wine was not that great, but satisfied my thirst. The display of art throughout was very unique and added a nice touch to the place. It's a very relaxing place to hang out with friends and try different wines. They don't mind if you even want to bring over a pizza from Buono's pizza located next door! There is some outside seating available as well... great for warm summer nights! I would definitely come back to the place again. I highly recommend renting it out for private parties!!
Parking is a bit difficult, there is a structure located behind it... it gets a bit confusing trying to find it though. Parking is free for 2 hours with validation. If you're lucky, you can find parking on Ocean Blvd. which is free.
Pretty decent wine bar. Â It had a chill atmosphere and didn't seem as snooty as some of the wine bars I've been to in SF. Â
They have a pretty broad selection of wines and it wasn't too loud so at least you can have a decent conversation with someone. Â I gotta say though, their cheese plate was a little disappointing, a bunch of cubed cheeses is just not my idea of a complete cheese plate. Â Why don't you throw in some harder/softer cheeses and vary the textures/flavors a little bit? Â Some honeycomb and fruit would be nice too.
Still though, it was much better than hanging out at the local sports bar...hope this place sticks around until the next time I visit Long Beach.
NEW NAME....taste!
New owners have taken over this space and making it a very good place to gather on a Friday night and just hangout with friends and a glass of vino.
The wine list has a few interesting selections and should have enough choices to satisfy everyone from the chardonny lover to the "give me something new from around the globe" connoisseur.
The venue has a good vibe and architecture feels contemporary and sophisticated. You feel like you are enjoying one of the simple pleasures in life without it being a major event. The art exhibit changes monthly and features local artist. Parking is validated for two hours and located in building behind the storefront.
Often have live music and tastings in rear courtyard so you feel a little bit like you've gone to a little European side street in the heart of Long Beach. Appetizers are also available most of the time and they do happy hours with live music. So making a plan to sip a glass of your favorite vino, by the fountain on a sunny afternoon is a great way to put some civility back in your weekend.
With the twist of the cork, I'd sum up taste! as "understated elegance with a casual feel." Â Sante!
A couple of my best friends took me here for my birthday last year to kick off the evening.
It was so lowkey and so cheap. The wine was good, the service was a little slow, but it gave us novices time to peruse and catch up, and the "small bites" menu was nice, simple and delicious.
It's in a strip mall connected to an apartment complex, it's brightly lit, it's frequently empty, but some of those things are willing to be overlooked. I will definitely be going back.
I would love to post a review of this spot, but we weren't allowed to stay. Â
Here is the situation. Double date with a couple who have a 6 month old. They are new parents and don't know all the rules yet. We're not parents so we don't know much either. Never dawned on any of us that she'd not be welcome because they're not a restaurant here, and considered a "bar". (We did feel foolish after we left and saw huge sign 21 and older). Â
Regardless, the following is why I won't return. Â We were the first ones in the spot and the wait person saw us come in pushing the baby in a stroller. At this point I would have hoped she would have approached and nicely let us know that because it's considered "bar" not a restaurant that the child was not welcome. Â Could have made for an easy exit and no embarrassment.
Instead we were given enough time to go all the way to the back couches, get kidlet set up, take off coats, and get comfy. We were left back there for a short while, and THEN approached to be told we had to leave.
The rules aren't what bothered me, the unfriendly approach to asking us to leave, after getting settled in... did.
Luckily we were able to walk around the corner to Casa Vino and get our wine on. Â Mary at CV was extremely friendly and even gave the kid a gootchie-gootchie-goo. Â Once the tiny peanut started making these screechy squeeling noises we quickly paid and left.
I highly doubt I'll give Village Tasting Room a try even sans child due to the way we were expelled, and the not-so-friendly attitude from our host.
This is an interesting little joint. Â I've ended up here several times with work people after work, since it's conveniently located right across from work. Â Good beer selection--they have Chimay. Their wine is not bad either, but I'm more of a beer person. Â Remember, I'm not going here specifically because it's a wine bar, but because work is over and I need alcohol. Â Their food, which I think is made next door, is also pretty good at 6:00 pm when your first two drinks are starting to take their toll on your empty stomach. Â The little pizza things are my favorite. Â
The service is always very good and prompt, because...because we're always the only people in the f-ing place. Â I'm giving it four stars, not exactly out of pity, but because I'm imagining how cool it would be if there was more going on here. Â I hope it hangs in there--prospers, even. Â Or, maybe it's more packed at other times, like Friday or Saturday night, when I'm as far from work as possible.
So it's really not as tucked away as everyone says. If you know where the Long Beach library is downtown and you know where the big neon blue Buono's pizza place sign is, then you can find this place.
What's so great about it, you ask?:
1) You can pull right up to the parking garage behind it (underneath the mostly empty Camden apartment complex) and find parking right away. Then you can get the parking validated. Don't be worried that the sign as you enter the garage says $100 per day. It was free with validation.
2) For just $9.00 (the price of a good glass of wine), you can get generous pours from six different types of wine. All were very good. We even bought two bottles of the cheaper one at $16.00. It was very light and had a strawberry flavor. As you can tell, we are true wine afficianados. We like the one that tastes like candy.
3) They have a very affordable small bites menu including smoked salmon, hummus plate, cheese plate, and some very, very thin crust pizzettes with carmelized onions. All were about $4 or $5 each, so we paired a few of them with the wines.
4) Open until about 10:00 p.m. on a Tuesday night. Bonus points for helping us get a buzz two days into the work week.
5) Good atmosphere: There were several small groups of folks sitting around chatting over bottles of wine. We sat on the couches in back and had a view of the patio. It was not cheesy and dark and full of moody romantic music. It is just a good place to catch up with friends and learn about some great wines you've maybe never heard about before.
