Came here on a Wednesday so I'll have to go back on a weekend to get a better feel, but I really enjoyed this place. I had thought it was another ritzy lounges with $14 but was pleasantly surprised. Happy hour goes until 10pm with $5 well drinks. My mojito was $9 at regular price. We got there at 9:30pm and there was ample (free!) seating. Decor is awesome with natural wood everywhere and some stools/tables are stumps. Go here to hang out with friends, not to meet people.
Review Source:I think it's horrible that a run-of-the-mill place like this came in and put this frat boy/hipster shit in where the cool tiki bar Lava Lounge once stood. Unfortunately, I was only able to go there once before the great gentrification. You can find a bar like this anywhere. My money sure won't ever be spent here or at any of its soulless Vintage Bar Group look-a-likes.
Review Source:I live extremely close to this place, so I go kind of often and I love the convenience (and I don't have to pay for parking! Or drive!). The Woods is so pretty I always say it feels like a ski lodge or something. There's enough seating so I never have to stand which I enjoy. They have a great happy hour, but I always order their well g&t and then remember how undrinkable the well liquor they have there is and change it to some Hendricks. I'm not even a liquor diva! My vodka of choice for my home bar is Smirnoff Triple Distilled!!
The Woods is an excellent place for a first, second, or 1000th date. I would know I have both been taken here on dates and brought guys here on dates. The reason why it is so good for dates is because the long booth has plenty of little tables that fit 2 people perfectly, it's dark so there's good lighting, the drinks are strong and make you feel romantic, it's not stuffy enough here for me to do some serious making out, and these things are true almost any night of the week. It is not, however, a good place to meet single men because every single person that is here is on a date pretty much. It's dates on dates on dates. I did have some guy flirt with me by giving me rattlesnake eggs once? Idk if this is his go-to move or what, but it was weird enough to be memorable.
My favorite memory from The Woods was the night I met a special young lady who was the most insane person I've ever seen at a bar. I have seen some pretty crazy shit at bars in my time (mostly in FL) I.e. patrons spitting out liquor and setting it on fire, buying squirt guns filled with Everclear, playing Don't Fall In the Lava by jumping from one bar stool to the next, but this girl was another level. There was a lot of stuff that was so bad that its inappropriate for your little Yelping eyes, but my favorite part was when she kept putting her full glass of booze on her head and squatted down and started doing that little Russian dance where you kick out your feet. She didn't even spill it was incredible! I was surprised she still had the motor skills to hold a glass in her hand let alone pull off this delightful jig. The only other things I remember were that she used to be a Mormon and had difficulty keeping her clothes on. The rumor was that she's a regular, but I have yet to see this little magical unicorn again. If you're reading this unicorn, message me! I will buy you 1000 drinks to put on your head! Ok now this review is turning into a Missed Connection.
At the end of your date of potent drinks, cozy seating, music at a perfect volume and live entertainment I highly recommend you finish strong by ordering the food from Sultani next door that's on the happy hour menu. Mozzarella sticks mmmm.
-In a ghetto looking strip mall. Â Parking lot is small and a pain when the area is crowded and cars are everywhere. Â They do have valet
-Cheap drinks but they didn't taste good and there was only one bartender for the whole bar. Â You're better off ordering beer or something on the rocks
-Decent amount of seating
-Very masculine yet trendy decor. Â Feels like a fancy hunting lodge
Just not a fan
Came here after visiting the Library Bar at the Roosevelt, and was a huge fan. Really nice decor, great chill but fun vibes (not too "swanky"), and also an awesome DJ spinning 90's R&B and swingy tunes. I think it was a little more relaxed before my group of friends arrived, but at least we got the dance party started! But if that's not your type of scene, don't worry-- I take it that it's usually more quiet and reserved, a great place to unwind in an intimate setting.
Pricing: $10 per shot of tequila
On my to-revisit list.
this bar/lounge is heavenly. it's tucked away a little, but that makes it all the more better in my opinion. the decor blows my mind.. drinks are drinks but i love coming here because of the ambience and the star studded cieling. that does it for me.
my only tinsy quib about this place is that it does get super crowded on the weekend... it definitely is a hotspot, and then seems way to small. i prefer coming after a workday when the vibe is mellow and relaxed.
I almost didn't want to write a review as I love this place so much and it's such a gem, I want it to stay hidden. But, I come here enough, and it was time.
5 stars for the decor and (normally) low key vibe of the place, and also to it being so close to my apartment.
I've brought a number of friends here for happy hour and late week night drinks and some chit chatting and minus a few odd souls who interrupt conversation in hopes of working their way into someone at our tables pants, I've never had a bad time here, don't let the outside weird you out, I like the vintage bar group, and The Woods is part of that group, fun times, strong drinks (if you nab the right bartender) and some fun tunes on the jukebox.
4 stars for the people who attempt to bring their party bus crew here. This is DEFINITELY not a place for a party of 10+ on a Saturday night celebrating a birthday, but, given the location, ANYWHERE is crowded on a thurs, fri, sat night. If you're looking to get crazy with your girls (or boys) grab ONE drink here and the pop on down to Happy Endings.
The vibe is nice sun-wed evenings, I've noticed all walks if life, attire, lifestyles, etc here, so don't feel that you need to be wearing the latest "in" trend to be here. Valet or street parking only thurs, fri, sat and possibly Sunday? Happy hour runs until 10!
All in all, I love this bar and will continue to come back and bring friends and out of towners.
Great place for Happy Hour when in the Hollywood area. Â There is a healthy distance from the heart of Hollywood so the vibe here isn't unnecessarily pretentious. Â
Like other Vintage Bar Group locations, this place has an awesome Happy Hour that lasts until 10PM.
The decor is beautiful. Â Tree stump tables and candle-lit walls. Â It's really dark, but provides a nice ambiance for after-dinner drinks.
Came here for some drinks with a friend and what a nice chill spot (when it's not crowded). The bartender was awesome I think his name may have been Brennan? But anyways, he made some amazing recommendations when asked. Chimay beeeer. How is it that I have not heard of this beer before! He even wrote it down for me so that I'd remember Lol
Their HH menu isn't as extensive as I hoped it would be and the inside is WAY too dim for me. But hey... they have a pretty good crowd and friendly staff.
Another con for me before I forget is the parking. But valet for $4.50, not bad. If you need to walk around a bit or grab some coffee before heading out, there's a starbucks across the street and the place is located around a ton of walkable locations. Check it out!
We were on our way for dinner, but we hopped on to this little bar first. Glad we did! The Woods has a rustic feel, perfect for a whiskey night. It's hard, lots of wooden features, and intimate setting. They also have a pretty good happy hour as well. Only thing is that they open at 8pm. It wasn't much of a problem for us, but since we arrived 15 minutes early, we just went to the ice cream shop next door to kill time. Their specialty drink menu was kinda standard and could have been better, but overall, good experience!
Review Source:Really attractive inside, if you like a subtle masculine vibe. The bathroom is not clean, even relatively early on a weeknight. The drinks were strong and well priced though, so I'd go back.
I imagine this places fills up with assholes pretty quick though, so go early and leave early, or you'll end up stuck next to a couple slurping one another's faces. True story.
This is a nice cozy joint with a very wooden feel inside. The front door looks like it's from a tavern in the medieval times. The walls looked lined with the ends of wooden beams. The chandeliers are made of antlers. I wonder how they got their name. Maybe they want people to be like, "I got lost in The Woods." At any rate, I don't think there's anything special about their drinks. With this whole wood feel, it would be cool if they specialized in whisky that uses whatever type of special barrel making process. Their beer selection is very bland--nothing you can't get at a random dive bar. It's basically a straight up normal bar without the bells and whistles. Not sure if I'd ever come back again but it's not a bad place to be on a bar hopping extravaganza.
Review Source:So crowded and so loud on a Saturday night that we walked in and walked out. Â We literally couldn't get half-way back into this tiny bar. Â It was so loud that I couldn't hear my Hubby, standing next to me, yelling, "Should we leave?" Â Too bad, because it looked like it might have been a nice place if it didn't pack in enough people to violate the LA fire code.
Review Source:This place is really nice inside. I don't think it's gotten too popular yet; the seats will fill up, but the place isn't overcrowded. When you go inside, it's nice and dark. There are pinholes in the ceiling so it looks like stars, and the decor of the bar is a bit "cabin in the woods."
Great vibes and the drinks aren't overpriced. Parking can be tough. You'll probably have to find parking along the street. I think the lot charges or it's only for certain stores (I'm not totally sure).
When you get lost in the woods....
The scene was this: colleagues in town from all over the country, none of us w/ any particular knowledge of LA. Yelp to the rescue. Â
But then.....
Our groups (all ages) walked up to The Woods to find an exterior suggesting a highly questionable interior. Some of our group was scared away. Chumps.
The rest of ventured in to find a somewhat elegant, warm, fairly stylish place with lots of five dollar drink options. The interior is fun. If you've seen "Cabin in the Woods"...you may be reminded of this. Fairly intimate space with little seating options that a best fit for a large group. Â
The five dollar drinks are made with the cheap stuff -- but don't kid yourself, they get the job done (read: three of them and you're three sheets to the wind).
Driving into a shopping center, this is the last place I ever expected for a bar to exist, and just not any bar, a pleasantly surprising bar! This is a classic example of the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover." The place on the outside would never imagine you'd lead into a bar where you could find such an amazing environment with relaxed, casual company.
Drink are standard, nothing too special or bad about them. Parking lot offers valet but I highly suggest searching for parking on the street as you are bound to find a spot.
Wow. Â I went here to see whatever became of the Lava Lounge, and I'm so forlorn. Â Not only is the crowd lame, the bartenders are sort of lackluster too. Â My barkeep, tattooed and physically promising some charm, failed miserably. Â Yeah. Â I don't give a f--- about your tattoos OR your pour if you have ZERO personality. Â Your co-workers were even worse than you. How do people like you guys even GET bar jobs? Â (Ummm, personality? Â Heard of it?!)
The patrons are not great. Â This bar seems to be full of wanna-be actors and wish-I-could-be-someones. Â Lame. Â (Ptooh!)
I like the woods especially on a slow night. The place is in a strip mall, its been around for a while, and I like grabbing a beer here when I'm chilling with someone I want to get to know. I usually go on weekdays as to avoid the masses and actually get to sit down. Then I like getting some ice cream next door. Definitely one of hollywood's cooler bars.
Review Source:I live just up the street from The Woods and it is always been a casual favorite in my book. Â Living in the middle of Hollywood is always difficult on your pocket book, especially for casual drinks with friends. Â The Woods is a nice escape from the usual over-priced packed spots that surround it. Â
The Happy Hour is pretty ridiculous ( $5 wells and $3 beers) and the casual vibe is great for a neighborhood bar. Â I also am a fan of the people that seem to gravitate to this relaxing cozy setting. Â
They have a fantastic jukebox that I always tend to get out of control with and by not gouging for songs you can rock the night away.
This is a great spot to bring friends and family who are visiting because it actually allows for good conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. Â
Beware friday nights around Midnight, the weekend warriors come out to play.
Hole in the wall bar, appropriately named. When I went inside I felt like I walked into the movie Fargo.
This is a busy bar usually with a wide range of personalities, and age ranges. As you look up you can see the antler chandeliers hanging in the dimly lit room above the bar. The space is not the biggest, especially on the weekend but usually there's at least standing room. If you choose to sit at a booth (and one is available) you will notice the solid oak tables, in front of a collage of various woods plastered to the wall.
The back is a dance floor although it comes off more like a dark hidden area which everyone avoids, with a couch or two in the shadows and a shelf to set your drinks. The bartenders are nice enough. It has a decent jukebox but some nights, and random times you have a DJ awkwardly placed by the bar.
No real good deals but not too badly priced (for the scenery, and no patio, they should consider discounting). I wouldn't exactly recommend it but I've experienced worse. So for this, I give two stars.
This place is dark, cozy, and intimate. The drinks are cheap and it has a lot of character. I was here doing happy hour with a bunch of coworkers and had a pretty good time.
Only wish was that they had a better happy hour menu. They do let you order from the med place next door though.
I guess since I rarely drink a bar probably isn't the best place for me anymore but I went for a birthday so I figured it'd be ok. It's a bit too trendy jenga block looking for my taste with horrible music that I hate blaring.
I prefer dive bars with the kind of bad music I enjoy and the nice weirdos at the bar who make interesting conversation with everyone and a rickety little pool table.
I guess if you're into expensive Hollywood places this is cool though I'd prefer to just go to crazy girls up the street and watch half naked ladies/drink there or even drink in the parking lot from booze from the adjacent liquor store
OK, let me make this simple, I live up by Runyon Canyon and I am from Los Angeles and let me just say that The Woods is neighborhood bar with friendly people who live nearby and don't have an attitude for the most part. Â Its also one of the only places where women can go and men will actually talk to them. Â (yes ladies if you're tired of going out and not having one person talk to you or anyone in your group, this is your place). Â Also this place has history, it used to be called the Lava Lounge, if you happen to hear that reference.
This is a "scene" no one is hear fronting - rather people come here to just hang out and actually converse. Â
If you're wanting to get more dressed up, hit the pool or lounge at the Roosevelt, that's also fun but often times not as social.
Glad to have The Woods in my hood!
Pretty unique and weird place, in a good way.
The Woods stands by its name and its ambiance is dark, forest-like without being overly crowded. The people here seemed pretty cool and there was no line at the entrance. Additionally unlike a lot of the other more upscale places in Hollywood where the drinks are pricy, I thought prices here were very reasonable. The bartenders were attentive and we got drinks rather fast. While there was no dancing on a Saturday night, I would recommend Woods to anyone looking for a cool hangout spot or something different to try in Hollywood area.
When you need to escape...escape to the woods.
It is small, dark. intimate, cozy, unpretentious, easy to park, and easy to find. Â
I crack up when people call this a shopping center... Fashion Island is a shopping center, the Beverly Center is a shopping center, the Grove is a shopping center but this is by no means a center. Â And that's what makes it great. Â If it were just another bar in a shopping center it would cease to be cool. Â If you want to drink & shop go to the Cheesecake Factory. Â If you want to relax and get lost for a minute, Â I highly recommend the Woods. Â
The last 2 times I was here the drinks were noticeably cheaper than the Next Door Lounge and just about a half a dozen other places I could name that were not nearly as charming... and they don't have cute antlers with uber-cute christmas lights.
I got there both occasions at 2 completely different times: Â right when it opened and the second time I was there from about 12-1am and it wasn't too crazy in fact everyone from the theater upstairs was there and it was a great crowd to be around.
Personally, I would rather be in a cozy, comfy little den like this especially later in the evening before going home... make it your own private Idaho.
Very oaky foundation in this little place. I could definitely see the implicit theme of the woods the moment I walked in.
Definitely a chill place. Drinks were decent priced and although it was loud as most happenin joints it still was relatively easy to have a conversation. Bartenders were very helpful and attentive despite the blustering people around the bar.
All in all a good experience and I'd definitely go back. A great place for ending the night on a pub crawl or any kind of experience where you hit the town a tad harder at first.
I love the atmosphere here. Â Chill, relaxed. Â Has a woodsy decor- but in the classiest way you can if that makes any sense. Â Good happy hour. Â
You can order some food from the place next door and they bring it to your table. Â There is a small menu w. their number on the table. Â
It took me a while to go in here even though I heard great things. Â Its in a shiesty little shopping center. Â Go. Â You'll be glad you did.
Came here just before the New Year. I couldn't believe this was a bar when I got out of my best friend's mini-van, yeah we roll deep haha, and quickly surveilled the premises. I was very surprised when I went inside. The decor was fitting (very woodsy), and though a little dark, I actually dug it. Good to know I can come to this bar on a bad hair day. It is rather small, but it was pretty empty when we went so no issues with space.
$5 well drinks and $4 shot of the day and boy oh boy. We had a spiced rum shot of the day and it was filled to the brim.
If you get the drunchies (drunk + munchies) they have a neat deal with the food place next door that will deliver Mediterranean inspired food right to your table, but the bar does not have a kitchen as far as I know. Nice bar tucked away in a little plaza with cheap drinks that get the job done! Definitely check it out!
From the outside, The woods looks like one of those shady bars in an unassuming strip mall. But it's is the complete opposite once inside. It's not that small, nice
woodsy decors (love the tree stump chairs) great looking people and drinks were really amazing. I ordered Marshmellow S'Mores Martini and  absolutely fell in love with it. They provide a small healthy menu such as Grilled Chicken, Hummus, Falafel Sliders, just call the number on the menu and it will be delivered right to your table.
Great food, alcohol, atmosphere, and patrons makes a successful bar. I will definitely go back.
For my 50th review, I choose The Woods.
What else can I say? I knew about this place long before I moved to LA, when my Hollywood-based long distance boytoy was trying to court me when I was living at school in Bloomington, Indiana. He said this was THE place to take me for a good time. He was so right. And he still is. Today, we live together in Hollywood. I like to think that The Woods had a small part in the formation of our relationship.... Good memories at the very least.
Today, The Woods has become our place to take out-of-towners to really impress them. It's got a lodge-style ambiance and it's just dark enough to shamelessly flirt with multiple prospects. The music's great, the crowd is ever-changing and the happy hour prices do not disappoint. All of my out-of-town guests remember The Woods as their favorite bar in LA.
A bar you can always count on to go to and have a great time. Period.
