Still amazing. The staff is super friendly and really cares about their craft, from salumi to cocktails to service. It's all perfect.
In the summer they do Sunday dinners. In the past these had been "pig parties" which were buffets centered around room temperature salads and grilled / spit roasted pork. This year they are trying out the sit-down coursed service for this.
We went to their duck event this past Sunday (7/14/13). For $50 you get an aperitif (delicious slightly sweet refreshing with amaro and bitters), country duck pate/terrine (great, if a bit less refined than their duck liver mousse), charred squid-bean-tomato salad with basil (tasty), a main course plate of an entire huge housemade pork sausage, two pieces of duck (leg and breast in my case) and a hefty serving of grilled marinated squash, and finally a big piece of tiramisu and coffee (included). The duck was spit-roasted over an open charcoal flame in the parking lot of the music school across the street and it was PERFECT. Served with a little lemon to squeeze over to cut through the fat, the skin just crackling and everything covered in delicious liquefied duck fat (but not big chunks of awkward weird fat like you sometimes get at a Chinese place). I can't wait to go back for the next party!
Never have actually eaten here, but I've gotten their pâtés to go. It's open until 1 a.m. Thursday-Saturday, which is awesome. My favorite is their duck liver pâté that is served in a jar.
Sadly, this place is busy, and they never answer their phone, so you have to walk in in person and wait for them to put together your order. But they're generous with their bread slices, which are nicely toasted. Wish they had smaller pieces of cheese like at Wood Tavern, since I don't want to spend $9 on a slice of cheese to go.
Hmmm, perhaps we'll come back and give this place another go. Â My GF researched happy hours in Oakland and we wanted to try something new. Â This was at the top of results. Sadly, their happy hour was only for an hour and their complimentary pupu dish assortment was OK. It came with garbanzo beans, a small slice of salami and a pretty yummy 2x2" pizza square that isn't available on the menu. That was kind of a tease since we won't be able to come back and order that specific pizza next time around.
Their cocktails start at 10 and are located smack dab in the front of the menu. First things first. Agreed. Â My girlfriend and I both had the Audrey's Kiss, tasty and gone in seconds on a warm day like yesterday. Â The other girls had the grapefruit gimlet which they thought there wasn't much alcohol in it. Also gone in seconds and served in such a small glass. Â And the Bitter's End cocktail for the bourbon lover.
There's an assortment of wines on the back of the menu. Â They have pate, salami, platters, salads, pizza and sides. I had the little gems salad and it was pretty good. I love lemon so me likey. The small oval plate was not large enough for the amount of salad they gave you, but then again it's probably a way to make you believe you're getting an overflowing amount of salad for $10.
The staff is friendly. There seemed to be only one server working the whole joint, one bartender but too many food runners and bussers. After 6 PM, it started to get a little busy. We had the perfect table because it was near the open windows on the warm day. The restaurant is located right at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Piedmont, right across the street from the Kona Club. The signage isn't that noticeable so you could possibly walk right past it as one of the girls did.
Great bar for cocktails (~$10 each).  Great selection of pâté (try the duck liver pâté served in a jar), cured meats, and antipasti.  Friendly bartender/servers.  And best of all, if you come during their aperitivo hour (5-6 PM and 10:30-11:30 PM I think) and order a drink, they'll give you a free plate of select crostini/cured meats/antipasti -- it's sufficient to work as an appetizer before moving on to dinner elsewhere.  Their sister restaurant Dopo down the street is great if you're looking for Italian food :)
If you don't have the luxury of being able to make it to Piedmont Ave. before 6 PM, I would still encourage you to just order a few dishes/cured meats to nibble on -- so delicious, and it's really not that expensive :)
Definitely my go-to place for before dinner cocktails in the East Bay! Â I would be here more often if it was just a bit closer :)
1 star for easy parking NOT on Piedmont ave but up the street and around the corner
1 star for excellent customer service I.e. we must've asked the guy about every single menu item. He answered all of our questions happily, it never felt like we were inconveniencing him
1 star for the great drinks...local beer, house wine, and the grapefruit gimlet. Talk abut yum!!
1 star for the scatola pâté alone. The best page I've ever had....ever. You will not be disappointed I promise you!
And the last star for the rest of the delectable treats! We ordered a plethora...
-oysters
-arugula pesto pizza
-Adesso misti platter
-pork belly salami
-and little gems
Everything was so fresh and ready to eat, you just cannot go wrong with this place! I am a repeat customer :o)
I don't get the hype.  The menu is very limited unless you love salami.  How can one love salami? Anyway the place  has an awkward lay out and the cost for a few drinks and bite to eat is just too high. I found the bartenders a bit snooty which is a real turn off given the highest priced drinks on the avenue.
Review Source:I have gone back several times to Adesso after writing my first review, and I have made it a point to sit at the bar and have to say that the bartenders are amazing. Â I Â asked for recommendations on what to order, and my experience has improved tremendously. Â Amazing wine and cocktails recommendations by the staff, and the menu has been shorten and improved.
Review Source:We were returning to our car from getting Fenton's dessert with our two young boys and still craving something to eat. Â We passed by Adesso and saw the bar with pizzas so we went in to order some to go. Â Staff was super friendly and this would be a no-brainer if we didn't have the kids with us. Â Looked like a good variety of food offered. Â Once we got back to the car, I scarfed down my pizza which was a onion and greens mixture. Â Very good, a little pricey but I realized this was an appetizer. Â Liked the setup where some tables seemed very private and quiet, but they also had the bar where you could watch the game.
Review Source:This is a great place for lovers of salumi. Â The selection is large and intimidating if you're not familiar with cured meats, but you can't go wrong with adesso misti sampler, or the chef's selection misti. Â
Read somewhere that they used to have over 25 varieties of salumi. Â Too bad they cut down the selection. I could spend a week here trying various salumi and sandwich combinations.
I really love this place. All the bartenders are skilled to a tee but my fav is Howie because his wine recommendations are legit. Good bites including meats, cheeses and flat bread pizzas which are yum. I'm just amazed that they have seriously wonderful wines for as little as $8 a glass. Comfortable and welcoming. Good movies playing and who can complain about foosball?
Review Source:Sidled up to the bar on a Saturday night for  adult cocktails and adult conversation away from the kids.  Amazing craft cocktails - I had a grapefruit vodka gimlet and my husband had  the billionaire -- bourbon and grenadine and absinthe.  The bartenders take great delight in shaking up a storm and pouring into cups tailored to each drink.
Review Source:solid and consistent. adesso is a great spot to bring your girlfriends, a date, or if you come pretty early, say right when they open, you can even sneak in the kids and get away with some fancy drinks for you guys and some pizzas and free foosball for them (witnessed almost every time I've been).
also, they have one of the greatest happy hours in town. a plate full of super yummy charcuterie style tapas (spicy nuts, house made pâtés, aged cheese, olives, etc.) to share, ON THE HOUSE. I still haven't figured out when it ends (maybe 7?) but I do know that we finally started giving them a heads up that we're both veggie (instead of leaving 2 of the 3 offerings untouched) and they've been more than accommodating with preparing special veg-friendly comp. plates ever since. so awesome. :)
the drinks aren't cheap but they're super delish and def instagram worthy. my current favorite is the "chapman & hall" (tru organic gin, english bishop, creme de cacao and creole bitters). it's a wintery savory sipper that has enough booze in it to get me buzzed before I've finished it. and my better half typically enjoys a couple "smarty jones" (four roses bourbon, ginger tea, honey, lime, & jerry thomas bitters) which he often subs with rye. the smarty jones seems to be one of their house specialty's, and I've noticed it's stuck around for a few years now on their ever rotating libation menu.
other stuff:
on the corner of piedmont and pleasant valley, street parking is usually free and plentiful and the big glass windows looking out onto piedmont are fun for people watching. as for noise, they usually play a mainly indie rock/90's mix not too loudly in the background, lots of pixies and pavement. can't complain. :)
Really, I do not get why this place cannot get it together. First, they are way more expensive than they should be. Essentially, it is a result of having the captive audience since no one else is open that offers anything similar. The drinks are pretty good, but really there are better places to go in downtown oakland. Mua is by far better so if you have a choice do not go out of your way to get here. If you do not feel like leaving the Piedmont ave area and are okay on spending $13 per glass of wine, by all means go here.
Review Source:Fun Fact: Adesso is owned by the same people who own Dopo. Adesso means "Now" in Italian, and Dopo means "later" - now you can impress your date with your knowledge of the Italian language.
I came here with my fiance and a friend and we had a great time! The cocktails are awesome - we each tried a different one, I had the Smarty Jones which I loved, our friend had the Grapefruit Gimlet which was nice and sweet (but not too sweet), and my fiance had the Lincolnshire drink, which, for me tasted a little too medicinal but he liked it.
The three of us shared 2 pizzas: the adesso and the red onion with chile. The Adesso pizza is wonderful! The red onion pizza is also great but be warned that it has a kick! We also shared the duck pate which was really tasty, and finally we shared the fried risotto balls (I forget the Italian name for them) - which were by far my favorite thing of the night. I could've probably eaten more, but we were going to Fenton's for ice cream afterwards so I didn't want to fill up too much :)
The waiter we had was top notch - he was helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.
Overall I like the atmosphere, it's laid back, the lighting was nice, and it wasn't too loud. It was also surprisingly affordable, for the three of us, including tip, it came out to just under $30/person.
Whoever the owners of Adesso and Dopo are - they're doing something right!
I've been here twice now and I love the ambiance. Â It's cute, hip, and pretty quiet(at least the times I've been there). Â The 1st time I went, my boyfriend and I were just grabbing a couple of glasses of wine. Â The wine that time was OK, but for the price per glass should've been a lot better quality.
The 2nd time we came here, we not only grabbed some much better wine(for a bit cheaper!) we had some of their gourmet pizzas. Â I had the signature pizza(the adesso), excellent! Â and my bf had a stuffed pizza, which he loved, but it was much too spicy for me(good though!). Â The waitress wasn't very good, not making sure the essentials were on the table(ie, napkins, etc), kind of slow, etc
We will most likely be back here again, Its a great place for a date!
We came here for the late appertivo. I would say that the food and drinks are hit and miss, with more hits than misses.
Hits:
- Free appertivi! We had a nice farro salad, some grilled cheese panini, and pizza rosso.
- The samumi we ordered (the sicilian platter) was astonishingly good. Probably the best cured meat I've had outside of Parma!
- A couple of the cocktails we ordered were quite good.
Misses:
- The appertivi were not spectacular. I guess I'd been given high expectations going in, though. And it's difficult to complain about free food.
- A couple of the cocktails we ordered were not well-balanced. I was excited to try a drink that had Squash bitters, but all I could taste was cinnamon (someone was a little heavy-handed on the Angostura, maybe? My friend's drink actually had cinnamon syrup on the ingredients list, but it was much more difficult to detect and much less overwhelming. Weird.
I think I was expecting too much out of the aperitivo, given what my friend had told me to expect. As a result, I was a bit underwhelmed. I'll have to go back for the late-night edition, and see if it's better then.
Really expensive, but the drinks and salumi are extremely, extremely good. I guess salumi is about to be the next big thing in Oakland, or at least on Piedmont Ave...
If you're coming here for dinner and drinks, expect to spend at least $30 if you want to be full. Or you could take a less American approach and not stuff yourself silly (but what's the fun in that when you have access to wonderful salumi?)
Waitress was a bit forceful on asking us if we wanted more stuff. Maybe it's my bad, but I'd been led to believe we'd get more than a couple bites each for aperitivo. I have corrected for my expectations in this review, for what it's worth. Didn't really appreciate the sales pitch, overall. But I guess we then did order a plate of salumi. Go figure.
I'll go back again for the late night aperitivo...
Loved this Place!!!!
My boyfriend and I came here both starving. We ordered:
1) Chef's selection salumi platter: Got 5 different meats, about 5 slices each. All the options were very tasty, but my favorite was the duck salami. It was nice and lemony.
2) Duck liver pate: the portion they gave us would have been enough for at least 4 people to share. SInce it was just the two of us, BF and I didn't finish it, but we wanted to. We really really wanted to. It was nice and smooth and creamy.
It would have been nice to have some gherkin pickles or something sour to cut all the deliciously fatty flavor, but I had my grapefruit gimlet (which was either very well mixed or had barely any alcohol in it. I can't tell because it tasted too good to be alcoholic) to provide that sour palate cleansing flavor.
Can't wait to be back again.
I went to Adesso after seeing it being featured on United Tastes of America on Cooking Channel. It showcased how Adesso makes it own salumis and etc and so I came to see if it was as good as it looked on tv.
And boy it sure was! I had several different types of meat. I think I had some sort of Chef platter? I cant quite remember but I do have a picture of it.
I think the waitress said that after 11pm if you buy a drink you can eat some of the food on the menu for free! So I gotta check that out next time!
Hmm, let's see. Cured meats, charcuterie and great drinks. Let me repeat: cured meats, charcuterie and great drinks. That's a restaurant structure I can get behind.
A fact you won't learn at Adesso: There's a city in Iran called Salami.
A fact you will learn at Adesso: A chef's special spread careens out of the kitchen late Saturday nights for the hungry masses huddled up to the bar or chatting the weekend away at the tables.
Piedmont Avenue has a bunch of destination eateries and "drinkeries," but when you're looking for the best place to grab a few drinks and stuff your face with premium meat, stop by Adesso, preferably on a late Saturday night.
This is a fantastic little spot. Â My wife and I came here while on vacation on the recommendation of a foodie friend. Â We left the kids at the hotel because we weren't sure what kind of atmosphere it would be. Â We know now that are kids would be fine sitting at a table with us, but it's not the most kid friendly vibe or menu.
So we came to this place knowing that it was basically a salami bar and had prepared ourselves to enjoy some cocktails and wine along with some fine, cured meats. Â Now while, the menu is not vast, they do offer some excellent pates, a nice selection of fresh oysters and some various other dishes on the menu. Â We actually made a complete meal out of it and took home leftovers.
The cured meats and pates are fantastic. Â I would love to come here with a larger group and order everything on the menu. Â LOL
While I'm more of an alcohol purist, my wife ordered a grapefruit gimlet which she enjoyed. Â I normally drink Kettel One vodka, but they only had a choice of a couple of micro distillery stuff. Â I don't remember the name of what I had, but it was pretty good. Â The wine selection is also smallish, but what they had by the glass was tasty and reasonable. Â The bartender was also very accomodating in recommending some pairings and offering up some tastings.
The only bear is that there is no parking (that I know of). Â Street parking is scarce and it makes it tough if you are partially handicapped like me.
Delicious seasonal drinks! I really like how the drink menu changes every couple of months to reflect whatever special syrup or bitter they have available. Also, the aperitivo hour seems to be a hit, free small bites of food on the bar right when they open and before they close.
The atmosphere isn't really my style and it seems to be that way for a couple of reviews. It's definitely draws in some of the local Piedmont Cougar/MILF's which I think is a hilarious site to see. I do understand the nose up in the air attitude that the bar has sometimes. It's not for everyone but I do love a good drink so I'll keep coming back!
Adesso, if you don't already have a Twitter feed, please get one. Then make sure to tweet at me to let me know when the red-headed bartender is working. It has been so long since I've had Old Fashions that smooth. I mean, I ended up having some weird nightmares than involved me living in a dodgy trailer park with all my worst possible exes at once and said trailer had a broken door....but, eh, whatever.
The blue cheese is my favorite of their cheeses.
Their aperitivo, or "happy hour", is outstanding. They bring out an entire spread that includes meat balls, cheese, paninis, olives, and more. It's absolutely perfect if you're looking to have a couple of drinks with friends but are all a little bit hungry. There's something for everyone to enjoy, or you can order from the menu if their items don't appeal to you. Their salumi is to die for, as are their patés. If you're in the mood for something sweet I suggest their chocolate cake - it melts in your mouth. I've tried 5 or 6 of their original cocktails and all of them are absolutely delicious. They're small but pretty strong and are good for sipping.
The restaurant itself is beautifully constructed and feels fresh. The tables are set up so you can enjoy the company of a group or have one on one time with someone. There's a cool, mellow vibe to the place that I really love, and it's been one of my favorite spots since I first tried it a few years ago.
Fully stocked menu of paired appetizers and extensive winelist. Â Great recommendations for wine, knowledgeable and courteous staff, and affordable prices during happy hour. Â They serve up a mean duck pate and they hand slice their cured meats. Â Great place to come wind down after a long day of work.
PROTIP: Â If wine isn't your thing, they do have a full bar and a wide selection of brews.
Aperitivo! Â
My friend told me that Adesso has their special "happy hour" on Fridays and upon describing it I realized that this is no ordinary happy hour. Â It's aperitivo, where you buy a drink and then help yourself to unlimited snacks and treats to eat. Â :) Â
Alas, it was nearing the end of Saturday night by the time we arrived. Â We sat and ordered some tasty cocktails--all of which are pretty strong. Â Since we already had dinner, we didn't order their special salumi dishes. Â Good thing we didn't because... when the live music started... the free food came out. Â And it was aperitivo!
And yes, they had salumi!
Tip: Â The grapefruit gimlet is a standard favorite.
Adesso must just be too cool for me.
The ambiance is supposed to be sexy, but I wasn't excited about the plastic chairs or the hockey game on TV. I'm at a sports bar? Wha? That's weird. The drink menu and dinner menu are at odds - prohibition era cocktails mixed with salumi...? One or the other, but combined it's not adventurous, it's just a collision. The menu is sparse, specific, and limited. There are a few cheeses (four, exactly), a few appetizers (e.g., olives), a barrage of sliced meats, and pate. Note: don't bother coming here if you don't like pate, because it's really the only food of substance on the menu.
Case in point: we ordered duck liver pate, a cheese plate, an arugula salad, and two cocktails. The cocktails were delicious - I had a "billionaire," made of bourbon, absinthe, and grenadine. That was the highlight of the night (aside from the company and the conversation). Our arugula salad was literally just a plate of arugula. Honestly, I could have stayed home and whipped up a more creative salad. The cheese was delicious, but there were only a few slices, and it came with exactly three bites of bread. Why skimp on bread? Why skimp on anything, come to think of it? There were a few almonds drizzled with honey, and I swear someone in the back counted how many were placed on the plate.
After about an hour we got to wondering where the pate was; when we asked our waitress, she seemed stumped as to why "it wasn't brought out." She was our waitress. If it wasn't brought out, it was because she didn't bring it. Instead of waiting another hour, and because the rest of the (tiny portions of) food was gone, we called it a night. If I go back, it'll be to sit at the bar, watch TV, and drink good bourbon.
Pancetta: Delicious!
Liver pate: Yummy!
Farro salad: Scrumptious!
Grapefruit gimlet: Tasty!
Champagne stopper that shot across the room and hit the wall to the right of my head: DANGEROUS!
Our server was very helpful recommending dishes to order, and we were pleased with the food, including the free happy hour plate. Â I was freaked out when the champagne stopper slammed into the wall next to me (that could have been my eye!), but our server and the bartender didn't apologize (instead the bartender explained that a bottle was tilted sideways toward our table, so the stopper shot in my direction), and our server just thanked me for picking it up (as if it were no big deal). Â In the end, I didn't get hurt....and the bartender *did* apologize as we left a couple hours later....
That said, I would love to go back and eat their food again! Â I'll just be a little nervous about where I sit....
As I mentioned in my Dopo review, we were sent here to wait for an hour on a rainy night and as soon as we arrived, they had a table waiting for us. Apparently the hostess called over to Adesso and told them to save us a spot! So sweet!
The manager of Adesso was right there, taking us to our table. The decor here is pretty nice. The noise level was comfortable and not rowdy, and it was not too dark or too bright. The crowd was mixed and it had a great atmosphere.
The waitress was a sourpuss and a bit mean; she was really snappy with our orders and did NOT provide good service. Considering that we *were* gonna drop some green here, her attitude made us just get one drink each and call it a day.
The service at Dopo is MUCH better and maybe Adesso should send some of their staff to Dopo for training! I can't comment on the food because we didn't have any of the appetizers, but the drinks were pretty good. Some of the drinks were too sweet, but overall pretty decent.
I don't know that I would come here specifically since it is a bit out of the way, but if I was in the area it would be a choice place for a couple drinks and good laughs with friends. However, if its a full-fledged bar you are looking for, I might skip it...
I bookended dinner at Dopo with visits to Adesso. Â I hadn't planned part one, I just ended up there at the end of my day with a bit of time to kill before meeting friends for dinner. Â When asked for a glass of his choice of red, Hanji provided a glass of greatness not on the menu. Â The chef arrived with a small bit of salad and when both were finished I was ordered not to leave because the chef had more things he'd like me to try. Â A nice side arrived with just a few bites of salumi, a nice wedge of something head-cheesy and a bit of squid and garbanzo salad. Â Out of wine? Â No problem, Hanji added a splash to ensure I had enough to enjoy the food.
While there I saw Hanji make an older woman a (not on the menu) mocha from chocolate he hand carved off a block with a knife. Â Made the woman's day. Â I also saw him making eggnogs that I longed to try.
Part two had me dragging my two friends here after Dopo. Â 6 eggnogs and some bourbon tasting later, we left very happy. Â Hanji makes a great drink. Â The eggnog is incredibly light and tasty, imagine a 1/4 of a glass of store-bought somehow whipped up to be a full glass. Â That light. Â Nice job guys. Â I'll return.
I love this place! I love stopping here for a glass of wine (or two).
However, I have to say I am very disappointed that they got rid of their paninis.
These things were incredible. The boyfriend and I loved coming here for light snack (sharing of a panini) and a glass of wine.
I have to admit, once they got rid of their paninis, we really haven't been back.
I could be wrong, but this place is usually packed, and it hasn't been as full lately. This could just be my opinion and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have lost some business because of their lack of paninis.
They have other appetizers, but they really aren't amazing. And in comparison to their paninis, well, there just isn't a comparison.
I definely will be back, because this place has a nice charm and good wine (and as I said they do have other appetizers that are pretty good). Yet still, I would be more of a regular here if they had their paninis.
DINNER DATE: 10.15.11 @ 8 PM
It is hard to miss Adesso as you are making a turn on to Piedmont Avenue. On many occasions as I was passing by, I have witnessed many couples in this dimly lit restaurant raising their glasses and smiling at one another, with a small plate in front of them. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/_pxbhqBM_1hXgf9axxBTZg?select=gnqEELaTgg06F-4Z2UOjTA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
AMBIANCE: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/_pxbhqBM_1hXgf9axxBTZg?select=T7AFX2kBo0uLrbvx8ZoCjQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Adesso is enchanted at night. Inside, you can see cars drive by this street level salumeria. The place is only lit by tealight candles, the light coming from the salumi (cured meat) cabinet, and the streetlamps. Most of the tables are by the window. It is hard to miss the salumi cabinet as soon as you walk in as well as the display of wine bottles against the wall.
Indeed, Adesso is perfect for 3 things:
1. Tête-à -tête
2. Well-crafted house-made salumi
3. Delicious drinks
Adesso was the perfect date night place for us after already coming from a party where we already stuffed ourselves. Â But vowing to never forgo date nights yet do not want to eat dinner again, Adesso's "salumi, formaggio and salad" only menu fit our small appetite (or at least mine.) Â They also offer oysters and pate. You will not find big plates here or even sammies for dinner. Â The drink menu is extensive with pages after pages of spirits, cocktails, wine, beer, etc.
DRINKS:
I asked for Prosecco but our server suggested a very nice Frizzante -- a BUBBLY ROSE ($9) while my guy ordered a Diet Coke.
SALUMI: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/_pxbhqBM_1hXgf9axxBTZg?select=5NASBLpyBlWgU1kIl4nFAg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
We started off with CHEF'S CHOICE ($17): lardo, salametto, montalbano, calabrian.
*The meats were well-crafted. No dry edges old cut here. Â The meats were sliced to order and you will be guaranteed fresh fine quality salumi experience at Adesso.
SALAD:
Served with bread, we felt it was too dry and we needed something to else, our server suggested a small plate of TOMATO SALAD in which they grow their own tomatoes. Â It was a simple salad of tomatoes, basil and olive oil. It was a nice accompaninent to our salumi plate and my bubbly rose.
FORMAGGIO: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/_pxbhqBM_1hXgf9axxBTZg?select=TQa4ePWCJ4bHKybKPmYhDw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Then my guy  started craving cheese. So we ordered a CHEESE PLATE  ($15): blue cheese, walnuts, thin slices of apples, pecorino, ciabra di capra Â
*The cheese plate was good but nothing special. However it compliments the salumi.
SERVICE:
Our server and the busguys were super-nice and efficient. Our bread plates kept on disappearing and re-appearing with more slices of toasted bread. Our water glasses were never low. One of the nicest services he have had in a while.
PORTION/VALUE:
My guy was more disappointed with our dinner being fixated on quantity and nothing else while I was loving my dinner and bubbly. It was a different story for him. Â He said he was still hungry. And we actually had to get fro-yo at Green Bubble after dinner.
He did agree, though, Adesso is a good place to get  drinks and small plates in the hood, possibly just shooting the breeze (which I prefer to call tête-à -tête) with our friends.  The meats were visibly fresh and not very salty unlike the pre-packaged kind, although my guy  could not get over paying $50 for few pieces of designer cold cuts and cheese.
CHECK: $68 including 1 bubbly, soda and 19% tip. (I uttered a silent "YIKES!")
WHY 3 STARS ONLY:
As much as we loved the service, ambiance and decent food, this place is PRICEY!
My guy prefers to forget the ~ $70 he paid for little pieces of frou-frou cold cuts. Â (No, he is not cheap. He would never been allowed to utter such words if it had been our first date but given he had paid $$$$ for probably close to a thousand date nights, the man earned the right to speak up his mind.)
WISHLIST:
I wish that Adesso will provide bigger slices of apples next time instead of the paper-thin cut ones. And a side of honey would have been nice to go with the blue cheese.
VERDICT:
Now that we know what to expect at Adesso, we will def be back. Adesso is not a place to go if you are ravenous. It is a place to catch up with friends over a plate of well-made salumi and good drinks, or get googly eyes with your honey before or after dinner. For those you are super-hungry, Piedmont Ave offers a plethora of full dining options -- unless of course you want salumi, cheese and cocktail as your main dinner.
You know what, it was not such a far-fetched idea--when I was single I lived on cheese, hummus and wine alone. Oh, memories!
