If you're in Boise and looking for fun, the Balcony is where it's at. Whether you're gay, straight, transvestite, nerdy, hip, ghetto...you'll love it there. The music is terrific and plays to what the crowd wants. If you go on a night when there are more older people they'll be playing Michael Jackson and the good dance classics. If you go on a night when it's just us youngsters then they'll be playing the newer stuff like Kesha, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, and other new dance music.

Every song it seems is one you can dance to and even for people like me who are terrible it's a welcoming atmosphere. No matter how you dance you don't feel judged and the bartenders are super friendly.

There's one in particular, a shorter guy with a tribal tattoo on his arm. He's ridiculously handsome and incredibly sweet.

If you don't dance there are pool tables, cheap drinks, and a beautiful outdoor view.

I highly suggest the Balcony for everyone, of every age who wants a great place to hang out on the weekends.

The Balcony is a big bar, bigger than most gay bars one expects to find in Manhattan, and very stylish to boot.  It's on the second floor of a downtown rehabbed building and it's well designed and very functional as well as inviting.  There is a main bar and a smaller satellite bar, a large dance floor, an authentic balcony from which one can perch and watch all the twinks, wannabe's and burn outs snub and rub each other while the sun sinks ever further into the sky.

The music is usually pretty good, the DJ'd work from a booth on the balcony level and the sound system is top notch.  Drinks are fairly priced, somewhat weak and served by some hot bartenders and waiter staffers, some with warm smiles, some with feckless and futlile stretch marks from saving for too long for that 1st botox treatment.  All in all it's a fun place for dancing and romancing with a little redneck drama thrown in for good measure.  It's definitely where all the cuties go in Boise.  There seems to be a large hetero clientele much of the time and that seems to dampen the goings on one finds at most hip gay clubs, but it can be a lot of fun.

Good prices for drinks. There is a door cover but its only 3$ so that's not bad. Some cute guys and overall its a fun club to get drunk.

WTF!  I used to go to this bar 9 years ago when it could actually be called a gay bar.  But tonight?  Tonight I saw way too many straights getting their grove on or making out than I ever wanted to see.  I left p1$$ed!  Sure the DJ was spinning some hot tunes and the dance floor was lit up hypnotically BUT the main reason I went is for the gay atmosphere.  Not!

    Great Place / Good Energy!
I've visited this club a couple of times when in town on business. Bi coastal homes in NYC and San Francisco and for a small Mountain States town, this is a great place. What I do find interesting with all the previous posts, reviewers felt the need to define themselves as "not gay" or "gay" and then review the club, often with remarks whether this was a "gay" or "hetero", "bi", etc. Who really cares!!! They make great drinks, have great music and often some attractive people. Who cares if they're gay or straight, white or black, Catholic or Mormon, Eurasian, French, Basque or American Indian. It's 2010 and in most places in the world, people don't care. If you're there to hook up, meet someone or whatever, most intelligent and civil people know how to determine what's going on. There are a lot of people from my own sexual orientation, ethnic background and faith group with whom I probably would never click. Just go and have some fun and leave all the stereo typing to another generation. If you meet someone different, it might do your soul good and if you don't live in Boise, who knows, "what happens in Boise, stays in Boise".

I wouldn't call this a gay bar, or a straight bar or a bi bar or a swinger bar or, or, or......
To me it's just a bar where you can participate in that if you want, or don't want, or drink or don't drink, dance or don't dance.
My point is I feel comfortable there doing what I want to do which may or may not be a combination of the above on any given day!
And for those of you who are in from out of town, keep in mind you're in Idaho (red state), but thankfully your in Boise (blue city), where people may dress a little more conservatively but that could easily be because they save their kink for the bedroom!

This place has such a wonderful vibe--diverse, down-to-earth, and just plain delightful.  Great dance music and a really fun crowd on the weekends.  Service is always friendly and fast.  The cocktails are typical dance club style (stiff, but not particularly fine--beware of the drink dubbed the "liquid cocaine"!  Absolutely lethal--partially because it tastes so harmless--don't say I didn't warn you!).  As someone else mentioned, they have a great wrap around balcony (hence--"The Balcony"), which is a great place to enjoy a casual evening of cocktails and conversation on a hot summer night.  Fun drag shows on occasion as well!  $5 cover after 9pm on Friday and Saturday nights.  Drinks are reasonably priced.  Definitely my favorite dance club in Boise.

This is a typical stand and look pretty kind of bar.  The drinks aren't bad, but spendier than the E-Club.  The shirtless, but obviously straight, bartenders are fun to ogle.  They're usually nice too (but maybe that's because I tip well).  I enjoy coming here with a friend or several, but I don't like coming here alone.  With friends its fun, without it just feels lonely.  The DJ is obviously gay because he plays fabulous music, with occasional bones thrown out for the hetero's and fruit flies in the audience, but I love 'em all.

Like other reviewers I'll start out by saying "I'm not gay." haha.  Seriously though, this was the only club where I felt completely free to let loose and dance (all without any liquid motivation.)  The vibe is so down to earth, the crowd is so diverse (gay, straight, rockers, hipsters, etc).  It's the best dance club in Boise by far and the DJ plays an awesome mix of house and dance tracks to keep the party going.  If you're feeling a little freaked out that it's designated a "gay" club - don't be.  Nobody will hit on you, people just want to dance!

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF QUEER CLUB IS THIS? Typical...all heteroed and yuppified out.

NEWS FLASH: Queers come to queer bars and clubs to find a safe haven from the cruel, painful, judgmental, homophobic world. NOT to watch Buffy and Tad bumpin' and grindin' on the dance floor like pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears and her baby's daddy inbreeding like bunnies in her parents' bedroom! No one wants to see that shit.

Two stars for simply existing in Mormonville. Nice try, but no cigar.

I vote this the best night spot in Boise!  I am not gay, lesbian or transexual - but that doesn't matter, it's still the best hot spot in Boise to go!

The music, the drinks, the bartenders and the people are all very nice and down to earth.

My sister and her boyfriend took me here over the summer and they didn't tell me anything about the place other than it is something I won't find back home in Philly.  Well no doubt they were right.

I had a great time, probably one of the top 10 nights I've had in a club.  I love to people watch and there are straights, gays, lesbians, couples, transexuals all in one place and everyone is accepted.  However, you have to go on a weekend, not during the week.  I had so much fun, before I left to come back to Philly I asked to go back there (which was during the week) and it wasn't anything like it was on the weekend.

So my personal advice ... If you ever visit Boise, ID - be sure to visit the Balcony!

I'm not gay... not that there is anything wrong with that.

My dear friends brought my husband and I here for some cocktails and a game of darts.

Very fun place, strong drinks.  But let me tell you something.... I love love love to people watch.  I am fascinated with people that have multiple piercings in their faces.

So with that, I almost got my ass kicked by a very masculine female.  Seriously.  I had to tell her that her 'look' was very much her own.... pretty much talk my way out of a Boise ASS Whooping.  She had a foot in each direction over me.... so I did not have a chance.

The dance floor was pretty happening for a Thursday night.   Yeah.... escape to the dance floor.

This is the only gay club in downtown boise that I know of.....at least this is the only gay club my gay friends like to go to.  It is most fun on weekends when the dance floor is packed.  The drinks are a bit overpriced so i usually drink somewhere else first and then go there to dance.  There is a large wrap around balcony that is pretty cool to sit on in the summer.  They have goth night one night, I think mondays and every now and then have drag shows that are pretty funny just because it's Boise and I pretty much know all of the drag queens because there are only about five of them in the entire state.
