I'm an italian guy, from Verona. This piace is awsome, you can drink and eat in the same way we do it here. William Perbellini, the bar manager, is a pro ! He can prepare every kind of cocktail. He is my best friend and
i will fly to LA to Meet him from the 27th of July to THE 17 of august.
You can find me every night @Toscana.. Contact me!!
Great neighborhood hangout. Not as amazing as Toscana next door but great for a casual girls night out. Love the pizzas with a glass of house chianti. When you order the tiramisu make sure it is from the main restaurant because the bar desert sucks! It is very loud on Thursday-Sat. so not suited for a quite conversation over the loud Italians or Europeans like myself.
Review Source:On a pretty average night, I'll go out with my friends and one drink turns into a couple which turns into 'one of those nights' - well last night we were on a mission for a 'just one drink' night, which honestly doesn't happen as often as it should. Â We were on the hunt for a bar with an adorable decor, a radiant ambiance, friendly service and tasty beverages - great news for us that Bar Toscana is right around the corner and perfectly fit the bill!
I got a Sorrento: Tequila, mint, cucumber amazingness :D Â next time, I'm going to have to ask for the jalapeno infused Tequila, it was already good but this little kick would make it even better! Â The rest of the cocktail menu looked equally good, so I'll definitely be coming back to try it all - and eventually maybe even the food as well.
$8 for a beer?! Ridiculous. Can you say "inflated"? On top of that, the waiter was a complete douche bag.
Attention management: I suggest you inform your waiter that walking up to a customer, who they have ignored for 15 minutes, and saying, "Yah?" does not define good service. It also helps when you check back with your table to see if they want anything else, but he didn't do that once.
Nice decor and atmosphere. Too bad the service was subpar and shitty.
I have lived in Brentwood for years. This has always been my go to bar to get some appetizers and drinks. The waiter (tall dark and handsome) knows how to do his job well and always with a smile. The food is delicious and the drinks are even better. Its authentic Italian cuisine in the heart if LA's most beautiful city. I bring new friends here all the time and they rave about it. I love you Bar Toscana!
Review Source:I wish Yelp had separate categories for food and service. Because the food at Bar Toscana, like the food at it's older brother Toscana, is fabulous. And I love the idea of a more informal restaurant with a full bar. But like Toscana, the way this place is managed is just dreadful. We had a 7 pm reservation on a Thursday night and waited until almost 8 pm for a table. The manager offered free drinks and got the drinks order completely wrong. He then lied for more than 30 minutes about when our reserved table would be ready ("just 10 minutes--trust me!"). When we finally sat down, we were all annoyed. But, the food was good. And I can't complain about that. But the terrible management is what will keep me from going back. Just like Toscana. Which I avoid because no matter what time we make a reservation, we are kept waiting at least 45 minutes. Either honor the reservation or just tell people you don't take reservations and there will be a 45 minute to one hour wait.
Review Source:HIGHLIGHTS:
STUZZICHINO TOSCANO - burrata cheese, roasted spicy pepperoni, tomato jam with Italian bread toast (like pita chips). Â Never had this combination, and I liked it!
RISOTTO CATALANA - arborio rice, shrimp and saffron. Â Generous with the shrimp, enough to get a piece in every bite. Â Nicely done!
PROSCIUTTO PIZZA - only the crust was NOT covered by prosciutto. Â I like that they're not stingy with the animal in their food!
OK:
Margherita pizza - pretty standard
Lasagnita Di Zucca - interesting dish but just OK to me
SKIP:
Rigatoni Alla Contadina - rigatoni with tomatoes, onions and pancetta. Â It was dark so I couldn't see all that well, so I didn't notice any pancetta - more importantly, this was a pretty bland dish, and I couldn't taste any pancetta. Â Bummer!
This bar is small, but it has seating for dinner and at the bar, and has some solid food overall. Â
We had a reservation for 3 people, but showed up with 5. Â Problem? Even though it was packed and loud on a Friday night, they accommodated us with no sweat, and added an extra chair onto the table of four without issue.
We ordered two pizzas (thin and good to share) three pastas and a small bite dish, we split everything between the 5 of us. It came to $50/person including the couple drinks we had each. Â A little pricey, but hey, it's Brentwood!
This place deserves my 5 star, hands down, best place in town (Brentwood) rating!
Their twist on the old fashioned is amazing; beef carpaccio and pastas are unreal. It's well worth the steep price. I wish I could go on with details, but that wouldn't do this place justice. Stop in and see for yourself!
I'll be back a million times.
Sliders  and drink specials are great. Totally would reco this spot.  I know for a fact that the bar tenders have to receive and complete special training or something.
Head chef is hot and really friendly. Â Walks around and makes sure patrons are happy with their food and having a good time.
I LOVE THIS LITTLE SPOT!
Landed in this lounge after double date dinner with some friends last week to have a drink, coffee and dessert. My friend's new BF is a regular here and we got a great table in zilch time.
The wonderful manager made a drink for me that was *exactly* what I was looking for flavor-wise, it was some kind of negroni with basil and some other liquor. They had coffee, hubby had an espresso martini (which was amazeballs and tasted like it was made with some very high quality shizz)
Dessert we had a tiramisu and a panna cotta. These desserts were both the kind of dessert you think about months later and need a panty change from the eensy 'o' you just had. The panna cotta had something called 'lady kisses crunch' on top of it - it was SO rich and delicious and if thats what lady kisses taste like, I kissed a girl and I liked it!!!!!!
Walked past a couple having full entree dinners on the way out and it smelled heavenly. They serve the full restaurant menu (restaurant across the walkway of same name is same kitchen) so we will be coming back to dine! Soon! I can't say much about price, for once I didn't pay ;)
The wife and I gave bar toscana a shot with a couple friends. Â The hostess managed to find us a four top on a crowded friday which was awesome.
This place is super pricey and packed as hell on a friday evening, but the food is great. Â I had a negroni and the spicy salami pizza and both were fantastic. Â It's an authentic Italian pizza, and that's tough to find. Â Also the cocktail was made perfectly.
The table also ordered the quattro staggione pizza (which was good but a bit too many capers), the insalata di rape ( beet salad), the burrata and speck appetizer, and the black truffle pasta. Â All were spot on and delicious.
The crowd was a bit cougarrific, but it didn't detract from the experience at all, and the kitchen is open late.
I'll definitely be back.
Finally went here the other night for a little date night.  For some reason it took me ages to make it over here and now I'm regretting that fact because I have wasted many calories on things that were not as delicious as Toscana.  Wonderful little place, amazing service, and the cocktails were divine.  I wish I could have had more but I was driving.  Delish risotto, a bite of  a truffle burger, a sigh of contentment, and all was right with the world.
Review Source:My best girlfriend just took me here as part of my birthday celebration. Â We went to Drybar in Brentwood Gardens before, so we valet parked there and walked over. Â The menu here is fabulous for both food and drink. Â This is an expensive bar, but the atmosphere, service, and food are all very lovely. Â I especially loved the beet and goat cheese salad. Â I'm a sucker for fresh burrata, and that was great here as well... try the one with the green tomato jam. Â So delicious, and the pretzel bread is a nice touch. Â The Aperol Spritz was a delicious drink, which I think I'm going to start preparing for myself as an aperitif at home after having it here. Â Highly recommend this spot.
Review Source:**SMALL BAR, BIG FOOD, IN BRENTWOOD**
Again, my favorite bar in Brentwood.
Didn't try their bar food until now.
ORDERED:
**TARTUFO NERO E BURRATA ($25)
Burrata cheese and summer black truffle thin-crust pizza was decent, but I preferred a warmer, crispier, and cheesier pizza.
**TIRAMISU' BAR TOSCANA ($9)
Pavesini soaked in espresso, mascarpone mousse and chocolate shavings is one of my favorite desserts in the West Side. Creamy and whipped, the texture and flavors are perfectly combined. Not too sweet; just right.
**GNOCCHI A PIACERE ($22)
Potato dumplings tasted wonderful and fresh with our choice of sauce. We chose the meat sauce. Solid Italian fare.
Customer service was excellent.
Cocktails were excellent (we kept ordering the Old Fashioned).
Place was BUMPIN during Oscars weekend.
Again, lots of pretty people with lots of bling and dough.
I APPRECIATE.
RECOMMEND.
I love this place so much! Â I live up the street and found it by accident one day. Â It IS expensive ($15+) for a drink....BUT you get what you pay for. Â If you sit at the bar, you can watch how they make the drink and they really care about the quality of what they give you. Â They muddle fresh fruit and measure the shots and shake and stir and even take a straw full and taste it themselves before giving it to you to make sure the drink tastes perfect! Â Their drinks are a gourmet treat and it should be sipped and enjoyed. Â This is definitely not a place to go if you want to pound some drinks and get wasted... It's a very relaxed atmosphere and I like to come here for special occasions. Â The bartenders are so nice (and sooooo cute) and have Italian accents. Â You really feel like you are in Italy at this bar!
Review Source:I love this place. Â A little small but the pizza and pasta must come from Toscana next door because its just as good. Â And there is a little more of a pulse and younger feel. Â Yes, its expensive but its Brentwood and very worth it. Â The manager/host is also great. Â Have had a great time every time Ive gone there.
Review Source:This bar is expensive. Be prepared to pay 2-3 bucks over even downtown prices. A 15 dollar martini shocks my conscience but I suck it up since it's the only martini within walking distance of my apartment.
Prices that will drive your wallet to suicide aside, this is a nice bar. Never too crowded, though there is always a "crowd" if you get me. I have always been able to sit on the rail which is what I care about. That way I can listen to the true Italiano barkeeps chat away in their mother tongue. The sound is smoother than a perfectly crafted negroni...which is actually bitter, but I am trying to keep with the Italian theme. This bar is an offshoot of an Italian restaurant, after all (never eaten there as I imagine their pasta is homemade, leaving my vegan self with few enticing options). Â
My bartender of choice is a friendly guy whose name escapes me, but he is a tall, dark, and handsome Italian. Â Remembered me when I asked again if they carried Martin Millers (no, they still don't AHEM) and threw us a couple of ports to cap off the night. After a specialty drink made from fresh ingredients, this hit the spot. Then with a gracie mille, I was out!
Only nice cocktail bar in the area. Worth the visit if you're in the hood. Just hope for your sake it's gonna be an early night because the bar basically shuts down at 10, 11 tops, 12 on a weekend if you're super lucky. And then you will be meandering through the ghost town known as "Brentwood" wondering why you left the beer and shot bars of the east side to go to UCLA. Or maybe that's just me?
This is exactly what Brentwood needed!!! Bar Toscana is a very sophisticated bar which also happens to serve wonderful food. It is the perfect venue for a light meal with a great drink and definitely the best place in Brentwood for a nightcap. We like popping in for an espresso (best around) and a little dulce. Â Other times we'll go there for digestivo after dining at Toscana or Tavern. The Maitre'd is as nice as can be. I should also add that the seating is very comfortable and servers are at the top of their game. Bar Toscana is a true gem.
Review Source:I really REALLY want to like this place. Â It is right next door to my gym, has good atmosphere, and almost always a nice little crowd. Â Finally decided to come by and try to place for a quick drink with a friend around 8ish on a Tuesday night. Â Like other yelpers have noted, it's a bit odd to have a bar 'hostess', but whatever. Â The two of us got seated at the bar and began chatting a bit and waiting for a bartender or...well...anyone to bring by some menus or look in our general direction. Â 10 minutes later menus are plopped down and another 10 minutes later we are finally able to grab someone's eye to order a drink. Â I had the Brentwood Garden (I believe) which was really tasty but I always cringe a bit at $15 martinis regardless of the nom factor. Â Now, mind you, it's prime dinner hour and I expect a place to be busy. Â I actually saw quite a few people buzzing around serving... but for the life of me could not get the attention of someone to order anything. Â Because it was dinner time, we were both hungry and would have ordered food, but after 40 minutes of waiting for someone to take an order both of us had finished our cocktails and didn't feel like waiting another 20-30 for appetizers. Â Another 15 minutes to flag someone down for a checks. Â (At this point we started timing) Â Put down card right away. Â Chatted to eachother how we would have considered ordering another drink if we didn't think it would take an additional 2 hrs. Â 15 minutes for someone to take the card and another 20 minutes before the check was brought over. Â All things considered, this seemed like the longest damn "Drink" of my life. Â Too bad. Â It was good company, and again, I like the space alot. Â The one drink I managed to snag was good and I am bummed I didn't have the opportunity to try anything else. Â Dear Toscana - don't blow it. Â One of the most important things working for any good bar/restaurant is attentive service, and nothing will alienate patrons more than feeling ignored or feeling like you don't value their patronage.
Review Source:It's so stuffy to have to hang out with a bunch of Brentwood men in suits. Â Honestly, I felt super underdressed even though I was already wearing the most business-like outfit of my business casual wardrobe.
Those guys must make the big bucks because I certainly cannot afford to go to Bar Toscana on a regular basis, or at all. Â One drink cost me $15, with tax and tip, I escaped with $20 less in my wallet and no buzz at all. Â The drink I had was called the Sorrento and it was essentially a glorified margarita. Yes it was good but it was not worth it.
Maybe if I were older and richer, this place would appeal to me a lot more. In the meantime, I'm going to take my middle-class self to a cheaper bar.
Very odd experience here. Â It is right next to my house yet I don't think I will be back. Â Very uninviting environment. Â I have never had to deal with a "host" for a bar. Â Strike one. Â They have these odd, cheesy, repeating pattern being projected on the wall. Â Strike two. Â Service was sub par. Â Third strike, I'm out.
Review Source:Great bar for a quick snack before the theatre. Fantastic wines by the glass. We shared a seafood risotto that was by-the-book and tasty although not inspired. Â The crudo was a great start to the meal. Â Stylish decor including installations by Steinkamp. Â Waitress gave us some unusual travel tips for our upcoming plans for Italy. Â We'll be back but probably will eat at the restaurant side. Â Menu looks more interesting. Â Toscana is a bit hard to find at first since it's in a non-descript brick building that looks like offices. Worth finding, though.
Review Source:delicious cocktails. Â Food is not bad but nothing special. Â It does go well with the drinks. Â Staff is very friendly, and very knowledgable and helpful. Â Did I mention delicious cocktails? Â Very nice atmosphere, although you're in Brentwood so the pretentiousness level is at a maximum. Â A lot of rich dudes with their trophy WAGs in there. Â But oh the cocktails...
Review Source:I came here last night with a friend from work. Â The bar is kinda small but the decor is very stylish. Â In line with the decor, our waitress looked like an overtanned actress/model. Â She was nice at first but became mean towards the end when she wanted us to vacate the table. Â
We ordered the arugala and apple salad, polentine and panini. Â We also ordered two bellinis, two glasses of Italian sauv blanc and tiramisu. Â The drinks were delicious but the wine was ok. Â The apps and tiramisu were great but VERY small for the price. Â Our bill came out to $117 without tip and we still left feeling hungry. Â I'd recommend this place, but only for the high-priced mixed drinks. Â If you're looking for a higher end happy hour, go to The Wilshire or Bandera.
I really like the feel of the place-- its got a good vibe, with a cool lounge area when you walk in, tables lining the window and a nice bar.
Unfortunately, aside from the feel of the place, the only other thing that is working for this place is the drinks (which is not a bad thing for a bar). My friends and I sat at a table and ordered some drinks and appetizers while we waited for our table at their restaurant across the way, Toscana. I had the Cinque Terre (gin, strawberries, mint, basil, lime, agave) and tasted my friend's Pearbellini (vodka, st. germain, pears, lime juice, bitters) which were both tasty but not very strong. For $15 a pop, I expect a little more umph!
We were really hungry and we were gonna have to wait a bit for our table next door so we decided to order a couple apps to hold us over. We got the Polentine (baked polenta croutons, gorgonzola fondue/shaved black truffle), Crudo Del Giorno (seared ahi tuna, capers, pesto, green peppers, tomato confit) and Rapini Grigliati (grilled rapini, pistachio, olive oil, nicoise sea salt, lemon zest). I very rarely have an experience where I want to send food back, but I probably could've sent everything we were eating back! The gorgonzola/truffle fondue had such a bad odor (which is typical for gorgonzola) but had absolutely no flavor. We ended up sending it back when no one wanted to touch it. The rest we dealt with. I guess what I would say about the Rapini and Ahi Tuna is that they both were decent, but nothing special. I easily could've made the same thing at home and that's not the feeling you want when you go out to munch.
Our server seemed nice enough but also became a bit short with me when I apologetically told him about our experience of the Polenta dish. I understand it doesn't feel good to have food sent back, but that's not something you take out on your guests. Nonetheless, there were other things with our server (who I couldn't tell if he was more a host or manager or what, but he didn't seem suited as a server). Small mistakes that could happen to anyone on an off-day, but in the context of everything else, left a bad taste in our mouths (almost as much as the gorgonzola/truffle concoction)... Â So much that we didn't really feel like eating at the restaurant after, which I was looking forward to doing.
When I told the hostess at Toscana that I appreciated the table they set for us but that we weren't really wanting to eat there after our experience at the bar, she immediately got the head honcho to come talk to us (which I told her was unnecessary because I really didn't want it to be a big deal, which she completely ignored). He was kind and listened to us but I would've much rather he apologize for our experience, since all restaurants can have off days, than tell us for 10 minutes how amazing the chef is and how he is very surprised by our experience. Not to mention, he was pretty touchy feely with the ladies, which made me a bit uncomfortable. So be warned!
It is a decent enough place to go for drinks if you are in the neighborhood, but not really as a destination bar.....
This hip bar is another best thing just happened to my hood, besides Sugar fish and pinkberry. Â The atmosphere is casual compared to it's successor but still a little snobby.. totally my style :) Â The cocktails are delish and I ate all their appetizers and would come back just to eat them again. Â Perfect for a happy hour, a nice catch up date with friends.. and I can catch LeBron and Nash in action!
Review Source:Finally! Â I have been a Brentwood resident for almost seven years and have been waiting for a place like this. Â It's small and fairly quiet with good drinks, that they obviously take pride in preparing, and tasty small plates. Â I had a special cocktail, the Oscar, a limey tequila drink with a spicy kick. Â My friend had the deconstructed pizza, which I didn't try, but was presented beautifully. Â I had a dessert, some fresh berries served with a chocolate sauce presented in a tiny tart shell. Â The manager and wait staff were so nice. Â And thank goodness, this place feels young and fresh, without needing to be trendy, like Katsuya down the street. Â I am a lover of just about everything Italian, and am so happy for the addition of this gem to my neighborhood.
Review Source:As soon as I parked, I was disappointed. Bar Toscana is located on the ground floor of what looks like an office building... very cold, very corporate. NO nuance or atmosphere. I figured it would get better once I got inside? Nope.
I walked in the front door and I felt like I was in an office. Cheesy animated graphics projected onto the walls, poor, awkward lighting, uncomfortable IKEA chairs, cheap tables.... I was expecting the luxe, sexy, yummy place portrayed on their website and the Tasting Table newsletter.....definitely NOT what I was sold.
My friend and I each ordered a signature cocktail and had intended to order food, but after sitting for about 20 minutes (and being subjected to their awful taste in music), we opted for C&O's instead. Glad we bounced when we did because the tab came to $40.... yes $40 for two mediocre cocktails.
It was quintessential LA -- overpriced, big promises and little to back it up.
Wow. Snazzy setup, a mixology-oriented drink menu, and fantastic plates to share.
The inside is gorgeous for the small space. You can immediately tell the thought and money they put into it. Mod looking lights hung from the ceiling, black plastic laced placemats, projector playing a DNA-looking piece on the wall. There was also lighting right outside the glass walls, on the ground - I thought it was real water, but alas, only swirls of color to look like it.
The lounge area was a little bright, and more inside, the chairs and tables were probably too close for comfort. When one man stood up, his jacket almost fell into my friend's drink.
That said, my italian sazerac was out of this world. As one of my favorite drinks, bar toscana's version has risen near the top.
The food is fashioned after stuzzichini, or italian small bites:
Venison carpaccio - as it looks and sounds. Thin slices of deer meat enveloping a few pickles and dashes of olive oil. The gameyness of the meat glaringly bare and pure.
Roasted pumpkin salad with grilled chanterelle mushrooms, frisee, and goat cheese - what a medley of autumn goodness.
Tuna tartar - kinda small compared to the other dishes but delicious nonetheless. Two levels of tuna with crispy tortilla -like squares under each.
The dishes came and were so neatly placed and ordered on the table. It reminded me of Bottega Louie's cordial style. Be prepared that these apps were all 'small' and pricey for what you get. And not necessarily 'light' - there was quite a bit of evoo in some. They ran between $11 - $15 for the ones noted above, and came on oblong or 4x4 square dishes.
I think the place has a lot of potential for growth. I'll def be back to test out more of their mixology talents!
Ventured in to Bar Toscana late last night for a night cap. Â Bar Toscana is an off shoot of Toscana and a very welcome addition to Brentwood. Â It is a low lit, modern, long bar with several small tables lining up a long window that overlooks Barrington. Â It is a fantastic place to stop in for a drink while waiting for a table at Toscana, or as a destination for a few drinks and small bites.
We did not eat there, but plan on coming back to do so. Â The bartender was very friendly and extremely busy making hand crafted cocktails. Â I will update this review in the future, once I have had a chance to eat at Bar Toscana.
