A-OK place. I'm whatevers. had some oily nachos with cheesy stuff on top and a gummy bear drink. Place is dark and service is okay. Don't remember anything particular about my experience here. Food definitely not their strong suit.

Good place, the staff is nice. The main thing that I like  about this place is that it's so big, I really hate places that are super busy and so small. The prices are decent, have seen some pretty fine females, they also have a pretty cool place to chill outside, all around this is nice place.

Strictly meh. The service was very slow, annoyingly uneven (I placed my order before my friends arrived, but didn't get my food until after they were nearly done eating, and the waitress came by three or four times to assure me that my food would be 'out real soon'). Once they arrived, though they were presumably as fresh as can be, the jalapeno poppers were terrible. Probably coasting by on location alone. Maybe I might like it better if I was into sports.

    What the heck?
How could I love the Original and the Burbank location and feel so dang MEH about this location? There must be some sort of worm-hole or radiant field over this location.

Service is borderline lazy. Food is just not quite right and takes a long time.

Not sure what the problem is - but I vote that management focuses on this location and revamps the service along with the streamlined menu!

Cool place. It was busy but that didn't stop our server from putting us priority which was awesome since it was a Sunday afternoon and she was running around like crazy. I can't imagine what it must look like come football season.

The place has a really cool look to it. It's similar to the other chains with a lot of hip crap on the walls. Good ambience. I really dug their beer selection. Got an Arrogant Bastard from the tap. Nice and cold and it hit the spot on this hot July day.

Ordered chicken wings. They tasted very cajun-y. With the correct buffalo seasoning. It was tangy, tart and spicy in the right combination. My friend ordered the quesadilla which came with a chili. Since he's a shitbag vegetarian, I ate it for him. They claim it to be world famous, but I swear...it was very familiar. It really tasted like Cincinnati style chili. Which is actually Greek style. Don't get me wrong, it was really good. And the combination of the beer and chili really nailed it perfectly. I'd like to try more of their pub grub next time.

Parking is rough though. I saw that there is free parking between Raymond & Union but I didn't explore that option, since I'd already parked at a meter.

I think in terms of "places to eat at in Los Angeles" this would be on the list. Like Pink's gets a lot of undeserved love as does Bay Cities, but it's weird that Barney's doesn't. It is an L.A. staple as I read up on the history of the place. I'm glad I made the trip.

For a place with 3 stories, it can get extremely crowded during the weekend; however, that likely goes for most, if not all, bars in Old Town Pasadena. And when it is crowded, it's nearly impossible to find a table or a comfortable location to enjoy a drink, which itself is a pain to put in an order for.

This review is old, im sorry. But I would still like to write it and send it for Barney's to see.

I went for the first time on Sunday the day of the 49ers game. (can remember the month. im sure it was a few games before Superbowl)  It was a nice, fun loud location. Totally awesome for friends or just to hang and watch the games. But my review is more for the manager and bartender. She was so sweet. They were busy and the bar was packed. The bartenders were running around so unfortunately I didn't get attended to right away. As soon as the manager saw that the bartenders were running around she jumped right in and asked what I wanted. I couldn't decided between 2 types, so very patiently and kindly she offered me 2 samples and waited till I actually tried them. I really appreciated her customer service.

My friends had gotten there before me so they had a bartender way before I had gotten there, hence the reason I was attended to right away. She came back and was so sweet. She made sure that when our beers were close to being done that see served us another one right away.

I apologize for no names, like I said this is a semi old review, nonetheless still wanted Barney's to be acknowledged :)

My friend, her daughter, and I came here to have breakfast. At first I was hesitante because it was empty with only a couple people have breakfast. But the breakfast I had was the irish omelet which was good. Our server, Charlie, was awesome.
The pancakes were whatever, but the omelet hit the spot. Seems like it gets busy during night maybe...sports bar vibes.

Baseball and beer and those cheesy menus attached to state license plates = just fine by me.

Wait until 4pm for the 3.50 draft beer, but watch out for the asterisk (it means no discount).

Chill environment where flip flops and jeans is as good as Dolce & Gabbana.

Not my scene. The patrons look like they all graduated from dental assistant school or other Devry university trade school. No place to sit or just hang out at the bar.

    Bouncer "Eddie" sucks!!

cool place to hang out and have dinner and drinks before partying. Karaoke downstairs is fun. I've never gone up to sing but its fun people watching. Bartenders downstairs are waaay cooler than the ones upstairs and waitress Christina ... she rocks!!!

This was our last stop on our Explore Pasadena day and we actually came here because we met some people at King's Row that came here.

BB has a lot going on when you first walk in. There are tvs everywhere which would make this a great place to catch a game. It seems like it would get pretty loud and active. Even better!

We ended up in a little area upstairs that is perfect for a large group. I felt like we had our own little secluded area with personalized service. There was a pool table, plenty of space to sit, and tvs. I have to compliment the servers too because although we were in our own little area, they still did a great job of making sure all of our needs were met.

The food was typical bar food. Definitely nothing to get excited over. I didn't taste anything that made me feel like I have to go back. But, fun times were had by all and you can't really complain about that.

    I love this place.

Miguel, Keith, and Chris are probably the coolest people that work here aside from Chad and Chris L.

Fun enviroment to be with the girls on a Fri & Sat night.

However, you must have patience because there is a ton of college kids that barely know how to drink. :)

I had just picked up a cup of coffee at Intelligenstia down the street and the girl at the hostess stand would not let me inside with it. Ugggggghhhhhh. Why restaurants would do this at the expense of people possibly walking away is beyond me. How fucking stupid and annoying. Are you jealous that Intelligenstia's coffee is good and yours sucks? Or are you worried that there might be alcohol in there? Jesus...If I actually went through the trouble of buying an Intelligentsia coffee on a Sunday morning just so I could try to sneak alcohol into Barney's Beanery, you should probably just take pity on me and let me in. Anyway, I stood outside and guzzled the coffee that I just paid $6 for because we were hungry and wanted to eat here. Bad idea.

I ordered the "Mexican Breakfast" which sounded good from the menu (three eggs, two enchiladas, refried beans and spanish rice) but turned out to be a disaster. Check out the photo I uploaded. I ordered my eggs overeasy and the yolks were hard. The enchiladas- basically a blob of cheese thrown on the plate with no sauce. The refried beans tasted like they were refried like a zillion times, and the spanish rice was dry and chewy...like they scraped it from the bottom of a pan. No bueno. But guess what? I was starving, so I ate it all anyway instead of sending it back.

Well...no good deed goes unpunished. Unsurprisingly, my stomach was rumbling like crazy just a few minutes later. I ran downstairs to the bathroom which took me five minutes to find because THERE WAS NO LIGHTING. And I don't usually complain about the condition of bar restrooms, but I draw the line at flies. There were flies galore swarming around the toilet and a mountain of toilet paper and paper towels on the floor.

So it's more important to management not to let the guy in with his cup of coffee than to keep the restroom area lit and clean and serve quality food. Makes sense.

I ate at the Santa Monica location just a few weeks ago and had some great buffalo wings there. So either you just need know what not to order at Barney's or the Santa Monica location is superior. I'll go with the latter.

My favorite place to grab a few drinks with my friends. I must come here at least 2-3 times a month.

I would give it 5 stars if the entire bartending staff knew how to make a proper old fashioned. Sadly, only a select few make a decent one. (Yes, I know this isn't the ideal place to order an old fashioned)

I came here for trivia only, so I will comment on the atmosphere, but I can't add anything about the food...

The bar is one of those eclectic type of places with all the different "flair" on the walls.

Trivia was fun, like normal trivia, but the MC was kind of slow so there was a lot of down-time, and that wasn't so great.

I liked all the tvs, with different games on each one.

Our waitress was fine. She kept making sure we were "ok" without being pushy. We didn't order much, so she put up with that.

The table next to us ordered a couple things, and it all smelled really good!

Pretty standard bar scene. Music playing in the background, lots of people as well.

Food is average. Drinks are average, but prices aren't too bad. If you're sitting at a table trying to eat late at night though, service can be a little slow, obvi. This place can get packed, so it can take some time to get your order taken and get your food.

They have booths around the area, as well as some tables near the bar area. They also have some pool tables to play at, but those are usually taken. You can always go upstairs to play at Q's if you wanna play pool, but it can get a little pricey there.

A little tip about Q's - if you go on Wednesdays, pool is free! (I think!)

    Busiest nights are Thursday-Saturday.

Met some friends at Barney's for the USC vs UCLA game this year.  It's nothing spectacular but if you're looking for a place to congregate for games this is a good spot.  They have a ton of TV screens (screens at each table, a giant projector, etc), decent bar food, and a great beer selection.  Prices are reasonable too.

This place didn't really make a great impression at all. Came here on a Friday night, no one even helped us try to find a table. The staff seemed very standoff-ish. The drinks took forever to come and didn't even taste good. Not sure if I would come here again.

one of the better Barney's i've been to. the santa monica one is just really old. there is live karoke on the bottom floor by the restrooms.

drinks are considered on the cheaper end. pretty popping on a saturday night. all the games were occupied.

food is average bar quality. decent size personal pizzas. fresh pretzels were a bit disappointing, tasted more like a bread stick.

havent found my go to spot in pasadena yet but barney seems to be a safe bet!!!

Fun place to watch a game. The fried vegetable appetizer was yummy - crisp, not soggy - but way too much to split with just two. Also had the spicy chicken wings which were tasty and meaty. They have a good selection of beer on tap too. Friendly wait staff and management.

I'm not exactly sure how to feel about this place, but for the most part it's A-OK even though I feel that they could improve... on a lot of things.

    FOOD QUALITY:
Nachos and wings normally never go wrong, but they're not the greatest I've ever eaten; I do appreciate that they aren't frozen wings from a box though.
Their selection of beer was pretty slim compared to other bars in Pasadena.

    SERVICE:
Waiter/waitress service was decent, although they can be a little slow from time to time. What I had a problem with was that the busboys were coming by taking away our drinks without pausing to ask us if we were finished with them -- even with our water cups.

    ENVIRONMENT:
It's definitely a bar scene so it absolutely isn't the cleanest place to be at. It's fine for what it aims to be, with the exception to dirty restrooms, such that it is able to house and entertain a large number of patrons.

Cheap drinks? Sure! Food? Maybe not...

The BBq Chicken Mac N Cheese is delicious..

however, the busboy ( african american man with a small under shirt that didn't fit his body ) not so much. He had the confidence to slip my wife his number under her as she sat down and try to approach her later in the bathroom.

He later tossed my to go bag at me even tho I didn't ask for it and I thought it was a joke but apparently he was disappointed that such a hot shot like himself wasn't with a beautiful girl like my wife. Hopefully Barney's can take some action before someone else does.

I came here last Saturday for a couple of drinks with my fiancé while we were in town for a wedding. Overall, this place did not impress me. There was nothing wrong with our drinks or service, but nothing stood out so it was an overall average experience. While there we discovered that this place also has a downstairs which had slightly more seating than the upstairs but it was a bit musty down there. The redeeming factor for the downstairs' climate was watching a whole bunch of drunk people sing karaoke. Probably wouldn't return unless someone in my group wanted to go there as there are so many places in Old Town to choose from.

I wish I was more thrilled, we say outside and had a few items from the happy hour menu before heading down the street for dinner.

The waitress was lovely and the service was great but the food was pretty disappointing. Heavy, greasy and fakey processed ick. I know it's a bar but if you are going to serve food it helps to make it yummy.

The waitress overheard it was my birthday so she brought out a cookie with a candle, which was super super cute. But the cookie was yucky and I didn't eat it (overly sugary and processed, not worth the calories).

    Oh well.

Visited this establishment with my girlfriend on 3/12/13 a little after 7pm. We have been to the original Barney's in West Hollywood as well as this location a few times.
It was a weekday (Tuesday) so it wasn't too busy. The host at the door walked us over to a table inside the bus and sat us there; how cool we both thought. It took us a while to look through the huge menu and decide what we wanted.

About 10 minutes pass and we both realize an actual server has not come to our table yet. We were getting kind of thirsty but figured it wasn't a huge deal, someone will be over soon.

Another 5 minutes go by; still nothing and we are waiting to order. We were both pretty irritated at this point but we drove all the way from Inland Empire and paid for parking so we were going to wait a bit longer. I spend the next 10 minutes trying to flag down a server. It was like we didn't exist, servers would look and turn away real quick.

25 minutes since we were seated and nobody was interested in helping us. As soon as we left our table someone rushed over to check it out. I assume he was making sure we weren't dine-and-dashing. I went back to the front to find the host but she was no where to be found. What a joke, we were furious by this point so we found somewhere else to go.

Pretty much the worst experience ever. We got there, and looked for a table, found an empty one, asked a waiter if we could sit, he said yes, turns out it was someone else's table and they were just at the bathroom. The person paid their bill and we were able to take the table after that.

We ordered drinks- they took forever. My friend ordered one with no whipped cream and she could tell they just scooped the whipped cream off after putting it on by accident.

I ordered a baked potato with cheese, spinach and mushrooms. It came out covered in bacon, which I didn't order, and I'm a vegetarian so I had to send it back.  The next time, it came out with no cheese so it was incredibly dry and the waiter took it off the bill and eventually brought me another one that was made right.

We tried to order more drinks but our waiter hardly ever came to our table so that was nearly impossible.

They gave us a free dessert but it wasn't enough to make up for the terrible service.

I will never be going back to this place again.

Came here this past Friday. BUSY!!!

My cousin and I were lucky to find a table. I got this margarita (non-blended) that the bartender suggested. I believe it was the cadillac something. It's on the upper right corner of the menu and it's the first one you see!

Pretty good and strong!! One of them will get the job done. My cousin had jameson on the rocks, they came pretty fast, too despite the hustle and bustle of the servers

The ambiance is full of drunken folks having a good time! Can't hate on that. If you don't have a table, you might as well leave or else you'll just be standing around squished with people.

Everyone is pretty friendly with you. You'll get those guys who just wanna talk to ya, but they're harmless. Don't get creeped out!

    Very social environment!

Alright, Barney's. Went here for the first time last night last night with some friends, here's wassup:
Number one: how the f*** did they fit a painted double decker bus in the bar? Awesome!
Service: not necessarily the most doting staff, but we had a waitress named Maya who was mad cool. We got three rounds of grab-bag beers and didn't regret it. Try it if you feel adventurous.
Food: we got some nachos. They were good, but nothing to write home about.
Overall: this is a great place to go with some friends, get some drinks, and hang out. The decor is crazy busy, but not in bad taste. A comfortable hangout, 4 stars

We ended up at Barney's Beanery late on Sunday night because we were hungry and everywhere else was closed.  This was the third Barney's location I have visited, and they have all looked, and felt, pretty much the same.  There were lots of decorations, TVs, and flair all around.  It was very psychedelic, as I have come to expect from Barney's.

The food here was also of similar quality to the other Barney's I have been to.  The food ranges from decent to terrible, but nothing worth raving about.  This past week, I ordered the shrimp burrito plate.   The burrito was okay.  As I was eating it, I kept thinking of all of the other places where I could have gotten a better one for cheaper.  The rice that came with my order was decent, and the beans were gross.

The worst part about this past week at Barney's was that they served our table drinks seconds before they announced that they were closed.  They played a loud recording over and over again saying "Barney's is now closed...!"  My friends had to try and down their drinks as quickly as possible.  It was so annoying, and also frustrating that they would take our order as they were closing.  It wasn't cool at all!

Barney's Beanery is just not the type of place to go to for food.  Sure, they have an extensive menu of entrees to choose from, but not many things that are worthy of eating.  I can only imagine coming here as a last option when everything else is closed.   There just isn't that much about this Barney's location to like.

My boyfriend is a UCLA football fan. We have season tickets to all of their home games and am in Pasadena almost every other weekend during football season. Whenever our games are at different times, we head to Barneys to catch my game before or after his.

Barneys is always pretty crowded on game day but unlike the one in Westwood, they will seat you. After eating here a few times, I decided the food here is whatever. I'll just stick to the beers! :)

This place is a little thrashed, the menu's were written on newspaper which was comical but really hard to read.

Upstairs was packed so we were seated downstairs, they had mini TV's at each booth which was nice so you could pick the game you wanted, but they were very poor quaility (think of your grandmothers old TV).

The food took a little too long to get to our table, I think we went through two pitchers of beer before eating. It was a little depressing downstairs, like the roof was going to cave in. There are a couple Gastro-Pubs in Pasadena that seem way better to watch a Football game at.

I've actually never gotten food here...

BUT this is the place of choice to go to to watch sports! Plenty of TVs, huge variety on menus and different areas of seating. They have karaoke here on select days too. Beer selection isn't TOO big but enough to get something new if you come here. It's pretty chill most nights. Pool tables on the second floor usually have people, but you can go to Q's since they're connected.

The rating is for the nightlife/atmosphere/drinks/service only.
---Because i've been for food multiple times before and it... SUCKS!  So bad.
I don't know why i even went back to eat there after the first/second time, but i've learned my lesson now. The hot wings place a couple doors down is way better for food (if you like wings) and the manager there is awesome, love him.

FAVORITE bar to stumble into (literally) when out for the night in old town, such a good time.

SERVICE SUCKS, FOOD IS MEDIOCRE, DRINKS CAN BE PRICEY.

It's a chill place to stop in if you're in the area, but other than that i'd take my money and go somewhere else. Although i do like their upstairs area, where you can shoot some pool with you friends!

Meh. Food was decent, nothing to be over joyed about. Definitely be careful with the extra charges. I ordered an omelette and was able to choose a side, when our waitress pointed to the area where I could choose from, obviously I chose from the list she pointed to. When we got our check, I noticed I was charged an extra $1.50 for a TINY cup of strawberries, I was a little concerned.

So I asked and she said that my choice was an extra $1.50. If I ordered something that costs extra, as a waitress, you should make sure I know for a fact I'll be paying extra. Had I known I was going to pay more, I wouldn't have chosen it. I was already paying extra for an egg white omelette.

When I tried explaining to her that I didn't know I was paying extra for something, all she said was "oh, sorry."

    ugh. so irritating.

I would not come here: when I want to impress someone, when there's a high-stakes game going on, when I actually want to eat food (as opposed to just wanting to drink), when it's a Friday or Saturday night.

I would come here: on a weekday night when it is empty and I want to drink.

The last time I came there was a USC-UCLA game going on. Never again! It was filled with asshats and annoying drunk girls at a scale that I did not think existed in the LA region, except in the douchier clubs in Hollywood.

It included characters such as:1) Meathead inexplicably in a USC Med tee screaming things at the USC defense like "GET THAT BITCH!!!" 2)  Unkempt, greasy looking girls next to us shouting every single UCLA shout at the top of their lungs 3) As well as a creepy oversized date rapist in a hoodie trying to hit on random girls

Also, as everyone has mentioned, the food is truly tasteless and awful here. I ordered "Hueveos Rancheros", which took 30 minutes to arrive and which ended up being: crispy, overcooked eggs on top of canned chilis and tomatoes, with a side of canned beans, Uncle's Ben's rice, and an oversized dollop of sour cream. I'm not sure why I expected anything more.

Barney's Beanery has never really impressed me. With the chain expanding so much recently, and with such chain-like food and service across all locations, it seems like it's trying way too hard to pretend it isn't as corporate as it actually is.

We kicked off a girls' night out here. Our waitress told us they were out of the $2 shots, but didn't offer up any alternative... so we went with some expensive, poorly made kamikazes. It seems like standard business practice that when you run out of something, offer your diners something in a similar price range, no? The menu has such a wide range of so many different items that none of them are ever really outstanding. It's bar food for drunk people. We went with several appetizers for the group. The fried mushrooms were really watery. The fried shrimp were just okay. The quesadilla was pretty good.... But it was a quesadilla.

On the plus side, this location has 2 levels, some games, and a fun, loud, party-type atmosphere. It's fun to stop by if you've been bar hopping around for a while and want some greasy food that you'll forget as quickly as you forgot who you gave your number out to that night, how you got all those bruises, or what happened to your top. But service wasn't the greatest and there really wasn't anything special enough that would make me want to come back.
