I went here last weekend to check it out as I wanted to host an after party in the upcoming weeks.  I am being completely honest when I say that the average age is 40 and the male to female ratio is 13:1.  The floors are cement and were constantly wet.  There is the bar with about 10 stools to sit at and the wooden bench along the concrete wall.  The Bayou Room is approximately 13 feet wide and 30 feet long.  It is about the size of a rec room in a single family house.  I was there for about an hour and the DJ played the B-52s and Michael Jackson's "You wanna be starting something".  It is not a hip spot or a cool hang out.  There were people dancing so much so that I assumed I missed the part where they passed out the ecstasy as that is the only explanation to why anyone looked as if they were having fun.

Totally a fun place, can get smokey but not oppressive. I'm an ex smoker, but it wasn't bad. Great people there just dancing and drinking lol .Had the most fun here recently. Seems like a really cool crowd for my first time there. Wasn't mobbed but heard it can get very crowded. Small dance floor, like 10 by 30 feet.  Most fun I've had in a long time lol

This is a smokey dive bar. If you don't smoke, like the smell of smoke don't come here. Plain and simple. Don't complain.

By far my favorite bar in Old Town. $2 PBR's until 9pm, just can't beat that! If you like dive bars, cheap drinks and a rowdy time. This is your joint! Friday and Saturday nights around 10pm can get pretty packed, the dance floor usually fills up.

This is the closest place you find for a dance club in Alexandria on a Friday or Saturday night.  It was recommended to me by a bartender from Virtue and I had a good time both nights I went here.  The doorman Carmen was super nice and the music was a mix of hip hop, 80s and top 40 which was fun.  Drinks were reasonable and the crowd was mixed which I really appreciated! Next time I am in town, I will go there.  This place is located in the basement of 219.

Glenn was very helpful with local information. A relaxed place, decent prices. I will come back again.

In general a great dive bar ambiance. They are open for cigars which is a pain in the ass if your not smoking one. Service is slow, but that's part of what makes it a dive bar.

Terrible drinks and the bartender was a complete jerk.
We went here on a Saturday night and although the drinks were $8.00, you couldn't even taste the alcohol.  The worst part was that the bartender was incredibly rude. There are plenty of other places in Old Town to visit without being over-charged and under-served.

Small place, I think 4 - 6 tables, all with a single long bench for seating, and then the bar.  The bar has about 15 stools, looking directly at three flat screens.  The bartenders are consistently very friendly and this is a type of place you're either a regular or going here for a quick drink before dinner reservations or heading elsewhere.  Very, very laid back with the most casual atmosphere you can find.  Always worth it to stop for a drink.

My favorite weekend bar in Old Town.  The bartender Glen (if he hasn't been fired) is the best and the Thai owner Patty is yiiam.  This places gets crowded and a bit douchey around 10:45 but the DJ keeps it hopping.  Sometimes the drink prices are a little too NYC but whatever.  It loses a star because sometimes there are so many dudes there it resembles a gay bar.

My favorite dive bar in the area. I work in Old Town, so we frequent this place during the week.  Glen, the bartender, is the best - he has our drinks waiting when we open the door basically. He knows everyone by name - one of those bars that Billy Joel writes about in the "Piano Man" without the piano man.

He plays great jams on the xm radio (80s new wave/rock), pours good drinks, has a wicked politically incorrect sense of humor and the place is drenched in business cards from the past 30 years.

They also have a decent bar menu which is better than the stereotypical French fare upstairs - a good steak frites (cheapest in the area, decent taste!), and the best shecrab soup in town.

If you love windowless basement bars with a lot of character in all ways, this place is for you. It's also a local secret for weeknights.

Note: On the weekends it becomes a nightmare of crappy music and crappy townies/people. A DJ moves in with stupid music, tables are cleared and the "party starts," so stick here during the day/early evening, or weeknights.

Was there with a few friends on June 19th and noticed that as the night went on, the DJ (who literally never turned to look at the customers) started playing more and more Latin music.  For a long time, people have come here to dance to 80, 90's and current dance music so naturally that's what we were expecting.  If the owners want to make the change to a Latin dance bar, then they've got the right man for the job.  Note to bar owners, please tell your DJs that their job is to keep the customers happy.  Since the customers are the ones spending the money.

Do not go here. Easily the worst place in Old Town.  Hot, sweaty, gross townies, save your cash.

Haven't been able to go on a weekend night yet....

went another time for drinks and there were all of 4 of us there....

go with friends if you go during the week.

I had an awesome time here, so good that I came back a second time that night. It must have been the bartender being loose with the gin and tonics. The music was rocking 80s 90s tunes the entire time and I could barely hear myself think, but that's what it's all about at this place. I maybe liked this place too much because of the booze, but that's what happens when you find a place that's giving you cheap strong drinks. Oh yeah be careful walking up or down the stairs when they're wet and you're loaded.

The bar/dance floor is a hole in wall. The music is mixture of '80s'90's and current artists T.I...Usher......

It is a good place to come to and drink, dance, and have good time.  There is no cover and it can be really crowded, so crowded you can't move.

Everyone there was pretty cool and  seemed to have fun.

Worst place ever if you are the designated driver for the night.  Ugh!  A waste of 4 or 5 hours of my life!  (At least the drunken friends had fun...)

I went to this place back in the day and they played great 80s and 90s mixes. Lately though it seems they are playing a more hip hop and rap which is drawing a "different" crowd.

    Sighh.....I'll look elsewhere.

This is one of the changes that took place due to the change in cuisine and ownership at the 219 upstairs. The same guys now own the restaurant and the Bayou Room, which makes things run much smoother.

The decor down here is amusing---the  ceiling and walls have business cards pasted all over them, evidently left by patrons as they leave (we left ours, too).  I was expecting some sort of jazz club, but this place turned out to be a basement bar. The DJ plays 80's and 90's tunes on the weekend and there is typically a sports game on the TV during the week.

The bar menu isn't long, but the food was great. The options are what I would expect from a place with Bayou in its name. Catfish nuggets and gumbo. Y'all come back now, ya hear?
