Went there last Friday night 7/5 after setting out at 1AM to find Enid's closed. We were looking to dance and I'd heard that Beloved has that. I'd been there once before for drinks.

Everything was fine, but the DJ was the worst ever. He was all over the place, building people up to dance then throwing on the brakes with something terribly undanceable. He did this repeatedly.

Two stars because he was amenable about playing people's requests.

    The worst...

A new institution to the neighborhood.  Quickly becoming one of my favorites, Beloved consistently delivers outstanding cocktails at affordable prices.  Coupled with damn good service, expect to be taken care of whether it be on a mellow weeknight or a busy weekend.

The bartenders choice is something you don't often see in cocktail spots in the area, but I recommend trying it.  These guys know what they're doing and you are bound to end up with a new favorite.

Definitely worth a visit (or three).

I like this place on the weekends - the music rocks and the crowd is bearable.

This bar embodies my favorite vibe on a Saturday night. The drinks are reasonably priced, and strong, the beers are varying, and strong, and the energy is high but easygoing.

The staff is friendly and great at what they do even for a rowdy crowd, and the clientele seemed to be casual, fun and as civilized as you could ask for on a weekend. The DJ playing when I was there a few weeks ago played a pretty decent selection for both dance-ability and discriminating tastes. I may not agree with you remixing Daft Punk, but I respect your choice.

Don't miss the outdoor area, it feels like the perfect house party.

All about appearance. Unmarked door, loud DJ, and nauseating pastel colors. Beers are more expensive than they should be. No happy hour, on a  Sunday! Shame on you. It put a cheap Polish bar out of business. Walk on by.

This place is great! They have really tasty, reasonably priced cocktails (hard to find a cocktail for $10 in Brooklyn anymore - and not just north Brooklyn). I tried a few and they were all great, but once I hit on the Milk Maid with tequila and coconut I knew it was the one for me. I don't know what the reviewer below is trippin on with his hate-on for Old Overholt but I ain't got no ish with that. Seemed to me they use pretty standard high-quality cocktail ingredients.

And though it is - I think - supposed to be in the "cocktail bar" category of bars, Beloved is not the kind of quiet, don't-disturb-your-neighbors dress-up kind of cocktail bar - it is still a lively place with dancing and friendly customers. Bartenders are friendly and unpretentious as well.

My only only quibble is...why is everything in Greenpoint so dark?! I swear these places, Beloved, Manhattan Inn, Habitat, No Name, etc., they are all very den-like. Which is fine, would just be nice to have a little variety.

Great music, great cocktails and even better bartenders.  They also sell beef jerky in case you get hungry.  Drinks are reasonably priced and generous.

Staff took forever to help me and my friends.....when there were only six other people in the whole place.  The three times we went the music was so loud we had to scream in each others' ears just to hear.  Definitely not a good place to go unless you want drunk annoying screaming people around you.

Considering I live in the neighborhood, I have no idea why it took me so long to discover this lovely bar.  I pass it every day on the way to the train, but I always thought it was a Polish restaurant, until I ventured here for a birthday party on Friday.

Overall, this place is great!  There is plenty of room here to relax with friends at the numerous tables they have both in front and in the back.  The music was awesome, a little something for everyone and some tunes that are great to dance to.

The bartenders are awesome, always attentive and quick to get drinks to thirsty patrons.  They offer a number of delicious cocktails and love that they're only $10.  I had two of the gin cocktails, which were strong but yummy.  On my third attempt to get another, the bartender told me he was making me something special to mix it up - and it was another delicious gin cocktail.  I love when bartenders do this.  It makes me feel special and I love trying new drinks.

My fiance was all over their really good beer selection.  I like that they charge $6 for any of their beers, even though it would be far more at other bars.  Makes things simple and you don't have to look back at your bill and go "why was this beer $9?!"  Be warned, a number of their beers are really strong, so it'll knock you down if you don't watch out.  Something that happened to a few of my friends, but it was all in good fun.

So yeah, I really like this place.  Great staff, great music, great booze and all packaged in a really cute space.  I'll definitely be back for more.

I'll give this place a solid 3.5 stars (but halves are not an option)
Dimly lit, wood decor, and good rum drinks are all I really need to be happy at a bar. Plus I love their front door design. Sometimes service is painfully slow which is a huge turn off, especially when you see the bartenders goofing off  and dancing instead of handling the 20 annoyed customers at peak evening hours. Sometimes the DJ's are extremely random with their musical selections (style-wise) and have even stopped a song short for no apparent reason. Kinda ruins the flow if you mix 80's rock with latin dance hits with hip hop with 70's glam rock. Makes no sense and you can't find a groove. But overall it's conveniently located for me, and if you show up early you can take over an entire huge section and party with your 20 closest friends in comfort. Once the place gets packed, the patrons all seem like one big fun group!

I'm never in the area but I would get on the G train to come back to Beloved. The bar itself is beautiful, and hidden behind these great big doors off of Manhattan Avenue. You feel like you are entering a secret lair. The people I was with mainly came to dance--there were several DJ's playing some great booty moving music and the small dance floor was packed. The bar itself didn't seem huge but there was room for everyone--people were mostly hanging out in the back. I took a dance break to order a Trunk Bay Cooler--the bartender was quick and friendly. Credit card limit is $10, and all their cocktails are $10, its a win-win situation. I could see this place as a relaxed spot to grab a drink before the music starts. I'll find a way to visit again.

I've been meaning to write a review for Beloved for a long time.
I'm just going to make this clear: We absolutely love this place.
The atmosphere is perfect. It's very comfortable and the interior design is a mix of dark woods accented with warm light. It's the kind of surrounding that makes you want to stay for a while and talk.
The drinks are always top notch. Fresh tasting, and never once have I been disappointed, even when I go outside my comfort zone and decided to try something new, or when I really go out and choose the "Bartender's Choice".
Speaking of, you could not ask for a more friendly staff. They are more than willing to answer questions or customize your drink to make it extra kick ass.
My favorite drinks are Storm Warning and Trunk Bay Cooler. Great, fresh tropical taste without having that sugary syrupy texture.
We discovered Beloved at the head of Winter, so we haven't had a chance to get a real feel of the backyard area, but we did sit outside once and it was just as subdued and relaxing as the inside. Also, you can smoke if you want to, and that's a selling point for someone with vices like myself.
All in all, this is "our place". We love making a night out of going to Beloved. I can't recommend it enough!

-Bartender was really great and personable. Drinks were decently drenched with booze.
-DJ was amazing (mixing genres I could never have even imagined be mixed) and he did it with such perfectionism. (DJ Stephen Pandolfi) I was definitely impressed and so were my friends.
-Venue isn't large but neither was the crowd; it was perfect just enough people to be entertained with enough room to dance.
-I went in on a Friday if that helps.
-Dance floor is in the back FYI.
    -I will definitely be back.

The bartenders ruin this otherwise pretty summer spot. Even on a slow night, they don't greet customers--instead hang out at the end of the bar chatting, and when they finally make it over to you 20 minutes later, they then take another 10 to get you the drink...I don't know if the owner just hired friends or what, but being in the service industry, its pretty apparent that they are really bad at their jobs.
On a busy night, forget it. It takes 40 minutes to get a freaking beer. I want to clarify--I'm not a bad looking girl, and this doesn't just happen to me. I have been late to meet friends there to find out they haven't gotten served yet, and many other instances, like watching people just leave. Its a horrible way to run a business and really sad, because its right down the street and I really wanted it to be my new bar. Alas, I'll keep walking to no name/nights and weekends/enids... all the other places in the hood that actually WANT your patronage.

Is this my first review of a Brooklyn establishment? Why yes I believe it is! This is of importance to you, the reader: I'm not into hipster culture (not that one has to be to go to Beloved), I've only taken the G train once in my life, and I live an hour away from Williamsburg.

If you are a Brooklynite, you probably hate people like me, and should take my review with a grain of salt.

I feel like I get what Beloved is doing. The inconspicuous unmarked door, the industrial interior, the ugly-sweater-and-unlensed-glasses-wearing DJ playing remixes of 90's songs. It's a Brooklyn bar. But the cocktails are not. Beloved reminds me most of Ward III in Manhattan, which is the greatest of compliments I can offer a place like this. Their drink menu is smart and the bartenders are smarter. They even have a similar bespoke system for custom drinks. All that for $10 a pop!

But I wouldn't go back. I'm sure I've mentioned before: I used to be a bartender. If there's one thing you get good at when serving drinks, it's doing eye-ball measuring and counting pours. You see, their drinks are served in these flared cocktail glasses that resemble miniature margarita coupes. In other words, they mask how little alcohol they're giving you. I may have paid $10 for the cocktail, but I was served easily less than half what I would have received in a similar drink at Ward III.

Worse, their drinks use very crummy ingredients and are unnecessarily sweet. All three of their Rye-based cocktails, drinks that on paper should be balanced and manly, are instead syrupy and use a generic and tasteless Rye whiskey that I've never even heard of. I understand that some establishments try to save money by using Old Overholt whiskey as a rye, but this disgusting shite is far worse than the already-low-class Overholt. At least the cheap syrups mask it. Perhaps that's the point.

Why would you pay such talented bartenders and devise a premium menu of drinks, yet soil the entire concept with Olive Garden ingredients and Baked By Melissa servings?

I can only assume that they are catering to a crowd that is more concerned with image than product. Now if that isn't a caricature of Brooklyn, I don't know what is.

For the last couple of years, the lady and I have frequented Manhattan Ave every so often to quell our Polish food cravings. After finishing dinner nearby recently, we stumbled upon this gem of a bar.

We walked in and immediately thought: sleek, sexy, intimate. Polished wood, comfy seating, candles and a cozy bar lent to a perfect setting for a few nightcaps after dinner. The bartenders were really friendly and knew their stuff. Definitely try out the specialty drink menu; the lady and I tried a couple of different ones throughout the course of the night and each one was off the chain. Although we sat at the bar, I checked out the place a bit and there is a huge, open back area with plenty of additional seating.

Definitely a great spot to grab a drink if your wandering around Manhattan Ave!

I live around the corner and definitely will be making it in more often. The drinks were great and the bartender was super sweet and very competent. In a neighborhood that's super saturated with bars, this one stood out just a little bit more than most competitors.

Quickly became my new fav in the neighborhood!

Perfect for a nightcap or a party. Great drink list, awesome whiskey selection, decent price point, and a staff that is the shit.

++ These bartenders really know how to mix. Love going in and just asking them to make me whatever.

Came to check out this place a couple months ago with my sister, her then-fiance, and a couple friends as a possible venue for one of her wedding events. (What better place to celebrate marriage than a bar called "Beloved," right?)

Because we were considering it for an event with 80 people, the owners--I believe their names were Vivek, and Aaron (sorry if I got it wrong!) --  personally introduced us to the space, sat down with us, had drinks with us, and then let us talk and go about our business.

Although we didn't choose the space because it was a bit out of the way, and a bit small for a wedding party, I can't sing the praises of Beloved or its owners enough.

Vivek and Aaron were two chill-as-F guys who remind me of some of my best friends.  Their drinks, which Vivek made himself, are superb, creative, delicious -- better than some of the trendiest little bars in Manhattan.  Both are friendly, honest, funny and straight forward: the kind of business owners who you just want to see succeed beyond their expectations.  That, and they'll make you a new drink if you don't like their recommendation.  (Not because it wasn't excellent like all of the drinks, but simply due to the sweetness of one drink--they warned us about it, we didn't heed the warning, and still they took it back!)

The vibe is really intimate and cool: a kind of modern-meets-Victorian decor, and the patio space is great.  To be honest Manhattan Ave is pretty ugly in those parts, which only serves to make Beloved stand out more as a must-stop respite from the neon signs and run-down store-fronts.

If I lived near Greenpoint, I'd come here several times a week.  It's the most balanced bar I've ever been to: low key, but has a trendiness to it, phenomenal drinks without exorbitant pricing, friendly owners, beautiful indoor and relaxed outdoor area, good music: why go anywhere else? WIthout exaggeration, I can say it's my favorite bar I"ve been to in 3 years in NYC... and that after only 1 visit.

Like I said, I came here a couple months ago, haven't had a chance to come back since.  I go to school, I work full time in lower manhattan (sadly far from this great spot), and I helped plan, and officiated my sister's wedding.  She just got married last weekend, and the first thing I do with my down time? Write this review...  It's that good.  Just come.

    I really like this place.

Excellent, affordable ($8-$10) cocktails, with an amazing selection of spirits.  They definitely focus on those that have flavor (whiskey, gin) and not those that don't (I think they only have like one or two vodkas, which is fine by me.  "Vodka is for rich women on diets," says Ron Swanson, and I tend to agree).  Great beer list too.

    Crazy friendly staff.

Sweet music selection (tunes ranged from Dylan to Grimes to Future Islands to Joy Division to Danny Brown.  Yeah, I can get behind that).

Cozy vibe at the bar up front, with room in the back for groups, hobnobbing, and booty shaking.

They do not have food, which can be dangerous, what with all the bourbon and rye hanging around.  But you can be cool like me a sneak in a bag of Pop Chips to secretly enjoy with your cocktails. I don't think they'll mind.

Beloved is my favorite bar in Greenpoint. The cocktails are DELICIOUS, the beer is cheap, the music is fun, and the crowd is always lively....true to that last point, a conga line spontaneously broke out & wound through the bar the last time I was there.

They also have a great outdoor patio space behind the bar that hosts groups of small tables lit by candlelight. You can dance, relax, or chat with friends (sans screaming) at Beloved. It's a great time.

Ugh Beloved.  Ok - I like their booze, so lets just get that straight.
Also, I've been there like, BILLIONS of times and the music is usually either OK, or great with maybe 1 exception.

My criticism is really only the decor.  First, wtf color are the walls in the front, like powder blue?  Ew.  No.  Bad - its like the living at your Aunt & Uncle's place.  Why?  Why this color?  Darker color please.  The back area is really pretty with the upholstered (looking) walls that have a sheen - I like the light fixtures and the actual bar is beautiful and ornate, classic dark wood and lovely design.  The tables/benches in the front look like some bullshit from ikea and their backyard is basically just a big empty space with patio furniture.  Ew, again.

With places like Troost to compete with a'la backyard come ON you have to do better than that!

Ugh, just make it nicer in there and less...sterile and blah.  So blah!
    Why?

Yeah whatevs I'm an a-hole but someone needs to say it.

Better! Upon my next visit, I noticed that all of the things I mentioned in my previous review had been remedied: bouncer, better music, drunken idiots behaving themselves.

This place is across the street from my gentleman friend's apartment, so I will likely be here more often.

    See you this weekend, Beloved.

I've visited Beloved on about a weekly basis for the past 2 months or so, and I just LOVE what they have going on here. Absolutely 5 stars, every time. Will definitely keep coming back week after week-- although I haven't been a BK resident long enough to compare to dozens of other local establishments, I don't think I'm alone when pointing out the positives:
    - Very laid-back, good all around atmosphere. Friendly staff, unpretentious patrons. You will meet cool people here.
    - Great, and I mean GREAT drinks. Guys and girls behind the bar are REAL bartenders and they can craft some amazing cocktails. Order off the printed menu and you won't be disappointed, or engage the bartender in selecting a specialty or custom cocktail. Last time I was there the bartender made me an amazing gin/mint/cucumber drink--I think it was called a "maid" and I couldn't believe how good it was (and how I'd never heard of it before). Fresh fruits & garnishes add some really nice final touches too.
    - Reasonable prices. $10 for ALL specialty cocktails is an absolute steal, especially considering they have a wide selection of premium liquor. Not to mention, the WELL vodka is Tito's and I didn't see a plastic bottle of anything in sight. Also, $3 Tecates is a smokin deal if you don't feel like spending $$$ or drinking hard alcohol.
    - AWESOME music. Especially since about 2 weeks ago-- because they JUST built in a brand new DJ booth with full Technics decks and the whole 9. Good local BK musicians spinning the last 2 times I've been. Using laptop setup OR mixing vinyl, which you rarely see anymore in a bar/lounge place. I totally get some of the reviews from months ago because the ipod playlist thing wasn't ideal, but Beloved really, really impressed me with stepping up their game like this.
    - The bar/lounge area itself is great, but this place really shines with the back patio. Hasn't been too crowded any time I've been, either (Tues, Wed, and Sat nights).

My only, and I mean ONLY knock on this place is that because of the local sound ordinance they are forced to shut down the back patio by midnight. People may be able to chill later on weekend nights (can't remember)...but I can't really fault the place for having neighbors.

In summary, Beloved is a refreshing example of what you get when you have owners that care more about every detail of quality & ambiance, rather than simply turning a profit.

Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The big black doors with the gold painted name "Beloved" sort of threw me when I walked by during the day...one might assume it's an offshoot of some Eastern European dance spot. However, it's quite the opposite. The bar is a little classy, yet approachable. It has some great cocktails to choose from and the bartenders are all extremely friendly. Of course like any good bar, plenty of beer to choose from, too.

It's a tad loud for conversation, I couldn't really hear what music was actually playing, but my friend and I had a difficult time hearing each other even though we were right next to each other. But hey, with a good cocktail in hand, who really needs conversation?

really liked this place then the bartender  went nuts...like WENT NUTS on my friend. She poured out some of her beer in the well...like where overflow from making drinks goes and he said she poured it ON THE bar. She only poured out the top because he put lime IN the can and she doesn't like that and didn't want to create a stink by requesting a new beer. It wasn't a drunked move, rather trying to be quietly poliet. Anyway, the manager got involved and yelled at my friend. a ton of people left after that because it was so strange.

Just a great local bar with a slightly upscale taste.  Some notes:

    - Everything from $3 Tecate to $10 delicious cocktails
    - Beautiful people
    - Low-key (possibly unfinished) backyard open till 11pm weekdays and 1am weekends
    - Meyer's soap in the "water closet"
    - Lots of sun during the day, candlelit ambiance at night
    - Great dancey music on weekends
    - Not over-crowded (yet)

This bar is a culmination of years of friendship and it shows. Everything from the decor to the cocktails lets the patrons know that while the owners/management know what they're doing, they're also equally gifted in being extremely down to earth. After 8 years living in North Brooklyn, it's refreshing to see chill folks open  their doors welcoming the $3 dollar Tecate drinkers and the $10 cocktail crowd as well as everyone in between. Conversations are free flowing without the pomp and circumstance which is aided by their beautiful backyard that just opened. Here's to minority-owned businesses!

A bar so great, I'll venture up from south Bklyn on the regular to get my Beloved on. Excellent house cocktails and delicious selection of liquors and beers make for good drinking (in fact, they have the scotch I have at home up there, which, well, makes me feel at home), but that's certainly not all. The atmosphere of the place is the real key, in my view, and this isn't limited to the beautiful decor; the culture of Beloved is really excellent: good people and good times.

The staff is very knowledgeable and can make a mean drink, but is also completely unpretentious, which is a critical feature for me, and the crowd follows suit. It's only been open for a little while, but I keep having to come back for more.

This is one amazing place to sit and hang out. The staff is incredible, the feel is just right and the selection is thorough. You really should check this place out. It's pretty dark inside but only for photos or reading. There are candles on each table so if you have a menu it's not a problem making your next selection, but leave that copy of Travels With Charley at home.

They have a gorgeous backyard that was closed when I was there but I got a sneak peek and it looks super cozy. Beloved is going to become super popular so you better get there before the masses.

The bartenders have an excellent knowledge of their offerings and don't just serve the average drinks. The whiskey sour is made with an egg yolk and the Moscow Mule (not on the menu) is amazing because they make their own ginger beer.

I also highly recommend reading this post: First Look at Beloved, Bringing Low-key Drinks to Greenpoint - <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnewyork.grubstreet.com%2F2012%2F04%2Fbeloved-bar-opening-greenpoint-drinks-menu-photos.html&s=70a964e44b2872942d982cc8c0b0b9ccb66883af22a378ead1f666bdb3188072" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://newyork.grubstree…</a>

My girlfriend and I went to Beloved last night.  The Manhattan Inn was pretty crowded so we decided to try something new.  I am so glad that we did.  Best cocktails ever.  The bartenders were very nice, friendly, and informative.  Each well crafted drink that we ordered was a delicious delight!  Everything was made with fresh ingredients, they don't use sugary concentrated juices, and you can you immediately taste the difference in their cocktails.  Thoroughly blown away.  I have found my new favorite spot.  The vibe is super cool, low key, chill, and laidback.  The manager and bartender, Rene, is an expert craftsman at what he does.  And, his lovely wife seated at the bar beside us, was simply enchanting.  I will give the bar, it's staff, the vibe, and most importantly, the cocktails an A++.  SImply one of the best nights out at a bar that I have had in years.  Definitely going back, and I can't wait!
