Yeah. Not sure where the folks who call this place "amazing" and "fantastic" usually hang out but I'd like to know so I can avoid those places.
Diamond clearly has an identity crisis.
The Hotel Identity: The actual bar, bar stools and other furniture. The bar itself takes up too much space for this small room and while it's very pretty and looks well made it feels "wrong" for this spot.
The Old Man Bar Identity: Shuffleboard.
The Neighborhood Bar Identity: Outdoor space.
Somehow Diamond doesn't pull off any of these identities.
There is very little in the way of decoration which makes an already drab interior (an entire room painted black, just black, without any other flourishes? Really?) even more drab.
The beer list is fine though. It's not that different than what you'd find in other bars around Brooklyn but it's got a few good/great choices they separate by weight - which is a nice touch. And the bartender I spoke with absolutely knew what he was talking about when helping folks decide which beer to try - which is also noteworthy.
So yeah - the shuffleboard and outdoor space are fun and great and all but srsly you can find those things in other bars with far more personality.
Yawn.
