I have been going to Best Panda for ten years now. Conveniently located 1/2 a block from where I live, it's the closest Chinese restaurant to me. The food is consistently tasty. Favorites on the menu are moo shu vegetables and pork, Kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef and garlic scallops. The prices have risen a bit over the years, but the quality is there. I always order the hot and sour soup, which is nicely hot and sour. Ask for fried wonton strips to add some crunch to the thick broth. Food usually takes 20-25 minutes to prepare. The same family has been working there for years and its taken the hostess a while to warm up, but and sometimes she even smiles at me. Â The interior of the the restaurant is absolutely no frills, but they have good value lunch specials with soup, fire rice and an entree. I recommend this for take out.
Review Source:We've been going to this place since I was a kid in the early 90's. It's within walking distance of my house and the people are always friendly. It's sad that things change, but it happens. The sesame chicken used to be heavenly and the food was always hot, fresh, and tasty. In the last 3 years the quality and experience has suffered terribly. We noticed a staff change in 2007. Everyone except the hostess was gone. We had met the previous chef before. He was a great guy. We continued to support the place, hoping it would improve, but it only ever got worse. The food would take 30 minutes past the 20 minutes promised. When it arrived, it would be cold and/or stale. To compensate with the inevitable loss of business, they jacked up the prices. Last week, I decided to give them one last chance. We ordered 3 entrees from the lunch menu and one order of crab-rangoon. The sweet and sour shrimp was cold and congealed. The empress chicken was prepared with the same sweet and sour sauce with chili peppers added. We could tell that the Hunan Vegetables were taken from several leftover entrees (we tasted garlic sauce, kung bao, and even found a cashew). The rice was stale. Very stale. The egg-rolls and rangoons were cold upon arrival. Â After twenty years of patronage, we won't be returning. Very sad.
Review Source:dang i really dont like giving less than 3 stars...im gonna spit some yelp integrity tho. Â i compare the food here to panda express, not that panda express isnt good...just that the quality and taste of the food was no better. on the bright side, for $6 u start with the fried chips, good-sized entree w rice, and your choice of soup. Â the price is actually better than panda express, but that doesnt mean im gonna give 3 stars.
Review Source:I've been coming here for years and it rarely disappoints. Â I usually go for the Kung Pao Beef. Â The combination of vegetables, crunchy peanuts, and tender beef in a spicy brown sauce is hard to beat. Â The Mongolian Beef is good for when I'm not in the mood for something quite so spicy. Â Service here can seem a bit abrupt at times, but it is understandable when things are busy. Â Although they have a small dining area, this place is mostly for take-out. Â I have them on speed dial.
Review Source:Tried it after Yao Yao closed, had the Sesame chicken and Pot Stickers.
The Pot Stickers were terrible but plenty, usually restaurants give you 6 but this one had to have packed in 8-10 of them. Â In normal situations this may be considered a good thing, but these pot stickers were just really bad and for the first time ever, I threw some out.
Sesame Chicken was okay, was neither horrible nor great, just average sesame chicken fair of the somewhat chewy and balled up variety.
We got take out and the service was fairly slow.
I don't know about any other dishes they serve, they may be good, but it seemed very quantity over quality there.
I tried this place on my never ending search for the perfect General Tso's chicken (the best so far is Hunan Palace in Libertyville). I ordered that and the cream cheese wontons. The General Tso's was good (they give you about 5 big hunks of chicken and a ton of sauce) and piping hot, but I was disappointed by the wontons.
The service was not good. There were two tables of diners and I came in and placed the order for take out. She said 30min. 30min? really? I've been to almost every other chinese place in the area and never been told to wait that long no matter how busy they were. So I went to the walgreens, came back 30 min later. I was told 5-10 more min. At about 40 min my order was ready. Way too long to wait, in my opinion.
I'm not sure why you often go towards loving what you grow up with, but Best Panda is my favorite Chinese joint. Â While the service can seem a bit rude, since it's primarily a take-out place. Â The workers (mainly run by a female cashier) will warm up to you, especially if you have a familiar face. Â The food is the tastiest! Â I love their sweet and sour chicken (even though it's boring but has a pineapple-cherry flavor to it), chicken fried rice, fried wontons, and lo mein. Â Some of the best and the red S&S sauce shows it!!
Review Source:Oh my god. Â This place has some of the BEST sesame chicken I've ever had in my life. Â The meat consists of huge chunks of white meat, and the sauce it's in is incredible. Â They've nailed it.
Admittedly, the fried rice here is so-so, but the crab rangoons did hit the spot...and the sesame chicken, alone, is more than enough of a reason for me to want to order from here again!
