Don't go here. Â Food is gross. Â We stopped in on a Sunday and my 6 year old said her pasta and butter tasted like someone put a foot in her food. Â What does that mean? Â I had the fried buffalo calamari which was delivered cold, sent back, and came back cold with a special fried black thing in the middle of it. Â This place is a cash grab for booze. Â Stay away!
Review Source:Back when Black Bear opened, it was the place to be. Â Good food and a great atmosphere. Â I just recently returned to Nyack last night and this place turned into a much needed episode of Bar Rescue. Â On the second floor your shoes stuck to the floor as if it was not cleaned in a year. Â The bar was dirty and the drinks were horrible. Â I'm not a top shelf person nor am I a well drinker. Â I think asking for an Absolut and Cranberry would have been a drink that EVERY bar has. Â I was wrong. Â The bartender told me that they don't have Absolut and pushed the top shelf liquor. Â In addition to that, I asked for 5 shots of chocolate cake and was told that they didn't have the liquor there. Â As you walk down the stairs, the Black Bear windows needed to be washed and the signage needs to be redone. Â My experience was less than disappointing. Â My friends and I downed our drinks and got the heck out of there as quickly as we could. Â I understood why the bar was not packed on a Friday night.
Review Source:I'm not really down for hanging out in the 'bro' scene, and with the types of girls that attracts; so I've never spent any time here during a weekend night. But I have spent many NFL Sundays sitting at the bar & watching the games. In that situation, I'm a huge fan. They've got a solid beer selection, the bartenders & servers are great, food's decent (about what you'd expect from a bar), and it's usually a really good crowd. (It helps when you get to know a lot of the regulars that are there every Sunday.) Plus, they have good amount of big screen TV's playing all the games with the direct ticket package. All in all, definitely a cool spot to watch sports & do some day drinking.
Review Source:I'd say Black Bar is one of the better bars in Nyack. I always have a decent time when I'm come here. Although it does get crowded, it never feels that way... the two floors help, I think.
As for food, they have really good burgers, sandwichs and other bar-like food. Also, their sweet potato fries are really good.
We had a few friends in town and
Decided to take them out and show them the local scene. Everything was great till we went to order drinks. Our bartender was entirely to drunk and while putting our order in the bartender took our friends designer glasses right off his head and proceeded to wear them. Then refused to give them back. Their waitstaff needs to just stick to their jobs serving drinks not insulting their customers just trying to get a drink. I'll never return!
fun place! came here on a saturday night for my friend's bday. she lives in new city, so nyack was apparently the happening city nearby. with cute little shops, and tons of  bars, pubs, this one street we were on seemed like the place to be. upon walking in, the bar is spacious, and has an upstairs level too. the dance floor leaves plenty of room, although few people were dancing. near the window next to the entrance there was a slightly raised platform (perhaps where the band would be, since they do have live music here), where we soon claimed as out own dance floor. the music was great, and drinks were cheap! AND open till 4am- PLUS! towards 1am there were about half as many people though....so i wonder if everyone was going somewhere else or if this was the norm? either way, we all had a great time- thanks black bear in nyack!
Review Source:I have never eaten there, but that is because I wouldn't, based on the smell of stale beer. Lots of drunk tools hang out there at night. I may have sort of liked it when I was in college, but at this point, I don't see the point in being there unless I wanted to get sloppy drunk and listen to the same 20 songs I could hear if I turned on z100. Which I don't.
Review Source:Food is good. Â Typical sports bar environment, but attentive wait staff, and we got everything we wanted. Â Happy hour is a good idea, got two for one drinks and apps, and waitress was helpful. Â On the whole a good experience, and I was definitely a fan of the Bear Bites app. Â You should try it, with any of the sauces.
Review Source:I moved AWAY from Hoboken to avoid the 7-days-a-week douchebag bar scene. Â However, lucky for everyone, the Black Bear in Hoboken has an extension in Nyack - it's part of the same chain and attracts the same crowd.
One thing that gets this place plus-points is the trivia night. Â It's the only one in Nyack.
This is a sports bar. Â They have a lot of TVs that are very high quality, but they didn't have the setting on where you can read what the announcer is saying. Â The music playing was Top 40 from the last ten years, which I thought was kinda odd for a sports bar.... I mean, really, that song Destiny's Child had on the Charlie's Angels soundtrack?!? Â
They seem like they get quite a crowd for the nightlife and have a lot of events going on (nothing says most crowded bar in a sleepy town on a Saturday at 10 PM like an event hosted by a Real World alum), but I was there at 3 PM for a late lunch. Â I ordered the California chicken sandwich and it was huge and great. Â Lots of cheese, bacon, and guac all over it. Â It came with a heaping portion of sweet potato fries, but those were unfortunately a bit cold. Â My mom had enough chicken penne left over to take home for lunch and my sister devoured her pulled pork sandwich.
They only have one bathroom stall for women on the first floor, so waiting for it could be a problem late at night. Â They also seem to rent out their top floor for events. Â Overall, a great visit!
I just wanted to write a small post about Black Bear. Â I am from Buffalo NY and I was visting a friend from N J and she took us to the NYACK STRIP..One of our stops on the night was at Black Bear, It was a jam packed Saturday night in the beg. of Feburary. My friends and I had a hell of a night! Love the 2 bars upstairs and downstairs.
Like any bar, it was jam packed and hard to walk through but all in all im a FAN!
Yes, it is a typical sports bar with 12 TVs on every wall. Â Food is greasy and decent. Â They make a great white russian. We've had the same waitress both times we went (last summer and again just recently) and she is great - bubbly, friendly and accurrate with service. Â And dog friendly, she brought a take out container of water for our dog when we ate outside.
After 9pm, if you are looking for a loud place for people in their young 20's getting drunk, this is the place to be. If you're not looking for that, steer clear after sundown.
If you've read the reviews for the other Black Bears, then you pretty much have this place figured out. It's another sports bar/pub that has decent food. The wings (of course I'm going to talk about them) are pretty delicious, fried up just right with some tasty sauces. Wraps and sandwiches have been pretty good too, but they have CONSTANTLY messed up any burgers I've ordered there. Apparently, they only know how to make them one way- OVERCOOKED. Not even well done. Once, I asked for one rare (even though I don't like rare meat) just to see what would happen, and yep, really well done. Either the cooks have no clue or the waitstaff just doesn't pass it on.
Speaking of the staff, this is one of the main reasons this place only ranks 2 stars. Sure, they're good eye candy for the guys and girls, but they don't seem very bright. On several occasions I've had them screw up my order, which would ultimately result in me getting some free grub or money knocked off my bill. I guess that's good, but I'd like it done right in the first place, please. Also, I've rarely seen the same staff in their twice, I think that says something about the types they hire.
The other main gripe about this place is the crowd....now, you should know what to expect from a place like this (families with little kids, couples on dates, etc.) Â but just don't get caught going there at the wrong time or you'll have to suffer through loud-mouth dumpy girls who are drunk by 7PM (and are not that great on the eyes, I'm afraid) and their counterparts, the Blue-Striped Shirt Crew. You know these guys....they all wear that SAME DAMN SHIRT. Is it a gang thing? A suburban/white bread/jock/drive a big SUV and still live at home gang thing? These tools are usually 3 to every girl, and all look the same. I try to make sure I'm out of this place by 8 when I go to eat there to avoid this sad scenery.
Go for lunch or a early dinner, DON'T order a burger, DO order some wings, then go to another bar (there's plenty in the area) to get your drink on.
