Yes , the  decor is stunning , airy and makes you stop for a second.
The food ????  Nothing special or at least nothing at all that has not  been done many , many times before.
The service is great and been able to see Alpana walking around and making sure that everyone is having a great time is a bonus, she is an absolute gem of her gorgeous restaurant and she fits right in.
Alpana , please find a Chef who will compliment this luxury establishment. Your restaurant should be number one in the Midwest you have every potential to do so.
Don't settel for two stars.
The Boarding House is an awesome backdrop for some great food and wine. I was drawn to the restaurant after seeing Alpana Singh on Check Please and hoped to see her while I was there. I did catch a glimpse of Alpana during the night, walking around the beautiful dining room helping people pick out wines. If I go again, I hope to get a chance to say hi!
The interior of the Boarding House is reason enough to come here and is one of the nicest spaces in Chicago. The restaurant takes up three floors of a house, with unique design for each floor. The downstairs bar area has nice bar seating and a beautiful ceiling with thousands of wine glasses hanging almost like a giant chandelier. I had drinks in the bar before dinner, which were very delicious, I highly recommend the Manhattan.
Upstairs is the main dining room, and has a much more intimate, quite atmosphere. It is also a beautiful space, with thousands of green wine glasses hanging from the ceiling. The menu is upscale, with a selection of meats and seafood. After hearing good things about the Chicken Three Ways, my dining partner and I split that, along with the Jamon Serrano salad. The salad and chicken were both delicious. Chicken Three Ways comes with fried chicken (small portion, but an interesting lemon flavor), braised chicken (great sauce) and roasted chicken (stuffed with dried fruit, this was my favorite of the bunch). Never ending a meal without dessert, we ordered the oatmeal cookie sandwich and chocolate s'more. Both were good, but nothing too exceptional. Overall, the prices were somewhat high (wine bottles averaged around $70-$80) especially for the portion sizes, but the atmosphere is excellent and service was very attentive. I would love to go back to have a chance to chat with Alpana!
