We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation and had outstanding service throughout the meal. Our group ordered salmon, chicken and seared tuna. All were wonderful and the biscuits were awesome as usual. Our server did not rush us after dinner and we enjoyed a relaxing and delicious dinner.
Review Source:It has been a long time since I have stopped by Bristol and I am sitting here asking myself why. Tonight I went to try a lobster roll after a fellow Yelper recommended it.
This is a great place for seafood lovers. The menu is full of fresh seafood options that you can't go wrong with. If you are not a seafood lover, but are with someone that loves seafood, there are options of chicken and steak for you. Everything I have tried here has always been great quality.
As I checked in I got a pop up for a free calamari appetizer with any order on the Yelp app. I decided to add this to my lobster roll order and I am really glad I did. So many places struggle with calamari and you end up with chewy, tough rubber bands, but Bristol does it perfectly. A light batter, carrots and jalapenos mixed in with the calamari, and the most tender calamari I may have ever tasted make this an excellent starter to any meal. It was hard to choose between the sauces, a sweet vinegary sauce and a spicy remoulade is served with the dish.
This was my first time trying a lobster roll and I was impressed. I don't have anything to compare it to, but if this isn't a good one I am in for some pleasant tastes down the road. The roll was perfectly grilled and buttery. The sweet taste of the lobster and corn complemented that buttery roll perfectly. The dressing was light and just bound the ingredients together, not overwhelming them. The watercress added a nice bitter and peppery taste to offset the sweet and butter goodness. My only complaints would be that the watercress was a little skimpy with just one piece on each roll so you did not get some in every bite and the bread to filling ratio was a little off favoring the bread.
I have never had a bad service experience that I can remember and normally I will remember things like that. I firmly believe that good food brings customers in, great service keeps them coming back and tonight this was no different. My order was to go and they were happy to add the appetizer to the order when I arrived. I was offered a soda or tea being I had to wait even though my wait was my own doing, and I got to try a couple of the fabulous bleu cheese stuffed olives while the bartender was filling them in front of me. I asked his name as I was leaving because I wanted to give a personal shout out to his friendly service, but after getting stuck in traffic and locking my keys in the car, it slipped my mind. The young lady working with him at the bar was also exceptionally friendly. The few minutes I sat there waiting for my order sold me that this would be a perfect happy hour spot, just because of the two bartenders.
Prices are a little on the high side, but not for what you are getting. They have a great selection for the happy hour (evening and some late night) and a nice brunch. You won't go wrong here at all.
Finally came here about a week ago with boyfriend and friends of ours for dinner Friday...or Saturday night? Â Anyway, the specific night doesn't really matter - it was a busy night we had made reservations.
We were seated upon arrival (again, reservations at 7:15pm) and made some small talk as we were talking to our table. Â It was a nice change from having a hostess seat us without any conversation or making us feel like we'd inconvenienced her in any way. Â Overall, service was excellent - although my only complaint was that we were seated at the same time as a rather large party which meant the food was slow coming out.
The food was fairly good, especially because we had another great Yelp check-in freebie: Fried Calamari!! We ordered the Seafood Grill which overall was ok...I've had better seasoned food at lower end restaurants. Â The only thing that was truly amazing was the scallops - they were sweet, buttery, and truly succulent. Â Our friend's also ordered the Seafood Grill (subbing in lobster mac and cheese) and the Filet (which was slightly over cooked from sitting too long). Â The downsides of being seated the same time as a large party. Â
Overall, a lovely place for date night - but probably not worth visiting regularly...the quality of the food and the price didn't match.
I officially love this place. We had a fantastic waiter. I am horrible with names, but I want to say his name was Scott. I just ordered everything that he recommended, and I could not have been more pleased with the food, or the service. I ended up having the scallops for my main entrée and they sort of rocked my world.
If you get this guy as your server, just let him order for you, you won't be disappointed.
I was there for Brunch about 3 weeks ago on a Sunday. The staff is lovely but they need to work on the food. I had really bad heartburn when I left there and thought that the buffet definitely could use some work. For the amount they are charging per person I would rather go to Gas Light Grill. Their buffet is truly amazing!
Review Source:I love the Sunday Happy Hour here!
The service here is great always, weather I'm sitting in the bar, at the patio or in the dining room. Fresh biscuits when you arrive to get you started. Yum
I've been for brunch and it's really good, lots and lots of choices!
But Happy Hour:: Let's see what I've tried and like,
Oysters::excellent!
the curry muscles are really good in a rich creamy coconut sauce, not too strong of a curry flavor.
Tuna Tartare is pretty good
The tuna roll is okay, it's just kind of plain to me.
the shrimp scampi is soo good!
Salmon flat bread is really good as well.
Now the Asian pear martini does not taste like Asian pear, Â it tastes like a flower! And there is a flower in your drink haha
I went to the Bristol during the recent snow storm. Although it was miserable outside, it was just the opposite inside. The wait staff was attentive, and the decor was stylish without being over done. The food was excellent, fresh and delicious. I wish they had grouper on the menu that day, but no such luck. I'll just have to come back and try again.
Review Source:Went here for a small family gathering while visiting the area. I'm a carnivore and "allergic" to all things from the sea. I would've picked a BBQ joint to eat at, but it was not my 80th birthday. Let me tell you the few meat and potatoes option were delectable. I had the grilled chicken, Yukon mash, and Brussels sprouts. Chicken was moist and charred slightly to perfection. The Brussels were tasty and cooked just right, no sulfite smells coming off them. Everyone else ordered fish entrees and they really enjoyed them. Â The service was exceptional and a great night was had.
Review Source:Restaurant Week Lunch Review:
On a Monday where my fiance and I both had the pleasure of being off, we decided to head to Bristol, having never been there, and take advantage of their $15 restaurant week special, which included a soup or salad, and a choice of four lunch entrees.
The restaurant itself is very nice inside - open but cozy, clean, and nicely decorated. Service was very good - extremely efficient, water ALWAYS refilled. Our server wasn't rude, but he also wasn't the friendliest. He seemed kind of annoyed that we ordered Restaurant Week, but oh well.
So, we both ordered lobster bisque, which was...OK. I tasted absolutely zero lobster in any bite. It was a fine soup - creamy and flavorful. It's just that the flavor was not lobster. The bisque was a bit on the runny side compared to others I have had.
For my lunch, I had the lobster mac and cheese. I'm not a huge lobster fan, so it was odd that I'd have two lobster dishes (albeit one of them seemingly not having lobster). The Mac and Cheese was good, but not great. Not terribly creamy, and also slightly runnier than I have experienced elsewhere. There was a decent amount of lobster in it for the price, but this lobster had (again) zero flavor. My fiance had the flat iron steak salad which was somewhat deconstructed with grilled romaine, corn, cherry tomato...one or two other things. It was quite good, with a nice dressing. The steak was okay, but not too hot and didn't have a ton of flavor (though more than my lobster).
One negative of their restaurant week is that other places included dessert, but Bristol did not. The portions were decent, but in the end I felt like $15 was on the upper end of what the lunch was worth.
The full menu really does look good, so I'm giving it 3 stars based on potential and what I've heard from others (my review itself would render 2 stars). The thing is, I always saw Restaurant Week as a way to lure people to come back. And unfortunately, the lunch just didn't do it. I'll likely be back someday, but as a seafood lover who has lived in JoCo for 4 years without coming once, it could be a while.
Such a great seafood meal outside of New England this place has amazing seafood, great wine list and great service. I have been here twice over the last year on two business dinner sand absolutely love it, my favorite appetizer is the crab cake, no filler mostly crab, calamari
The entrees both steak and seafood you can't go wrong !
It's a crowd pleaser, a huge variety of fish from Maine to New Zealand you can't go wrong. Dessert was fabulous, highly recommend the carrot cake. Â Looking forward to my next trip to KC!
This restaurant was recommended by at least 30 different people. It was by far one of the best  places I have experienced 'Fine Dining!' in a really long time...The service was top notch, the food was superb and the ambiance was extremely fun, fancy and charming.
When you go for your Birthday, you get $25.00 gift card, a $15.00 coupon towards your entree and a free desert! You cannot beat it! Reservations are totally recommended...
First off, if you want some of the best seafood you can possibly get in the KC area, this is one of the best, if not THE best, restaurant.
Every visit I've made to Bristol has been during their Happy Hour, and I always order a dozen oysters. Not a lot of people appreciate it, but if you know the good oysters, you'll love the ones here. Fresh and delicious, it is comparable to the seafood on the coasts. And yes, I've been to both.
If not the oysters, try their mussels or even the lobster roll. Absolutely tasty.
I think I've written countless reviews for this place. For the Kansas City metro area, you won't find better seafood. Great service and even a free Yelp calamari. Unfortunately a wine spill ruined a shirt I was wearing. Not the restaurant's fault, though. I had the grouper which was excellent. That came after the calamari and cold seafood platter.
Review Source:Super, Super expensive but very good. Â Sundays are half price bottles so we got to have a bottle I wouldn't have normally got to have for a price of one I would've ordered. Â I had the crab cakes and thanks to checking into yelp, a free calamari appetizer. Â Biscuits...wowza. Â I could've ate the whole pan. Â Everything was good but i think they are overpriced. Â Good for special occasions.
Review Source:This definitely is not the same Bristol that served great seafood and steaks on the Country Club Plaza years ago. The attention to detail in both the food and the service is missing.
We had reservations for brunch for a family celebration this morning and our table was ready when we arrived. We were seated promptly, drink orders taken and delivered in good time, but it went downhill from there. I got one refill on my coffee and then never saw anyone with a pot again. The scrambled eggs, gravy, link sausage, cioppino, potatoes, etc. on the buffet were just warm but not hot. I was hard-pressed to find any meat in the lobster mac and cheese that people tend to rave about. The cold fish  and dessert tables were okay but didn't really stand out and for 23 bucks a head, I expect more. I hope they still do a good job outside of the Sunday brunch offering but I'm not sure I want to take the chance.
The Bristol is an old stand-by for business lunches. Â It is really the only place along the 119th Street corridor where I will eat seafood. Â I am kind of a seafood snob so I typically wait until I'm on a coastal business trip for a seafood meal. Â Luckily I travel quite a bit for work so my wait is never more than a few weeks.
That said, the offerings at Bristol are top-notch. Â I had the big-eye tuna today with heirloom tomatoes and I enjoyed it immensely. Â The Mahi-Mahi is typically fresh and tasty as well.
The accompaniments at Bristol are always good. Â Watch out for the fresh biscuits with honey butter, the wait-staff will serve a fresh-bicuit on your plate like they are refilling your water so don't fill up on bread.
I probably have lunch here about once a month, the fish is always fresh, the hickory grill is hot and the combination is really good.
This is perhaps one of my favorite restaurants in the Kansas City area. Â I have eaten here at least 40 times over the years dating back to when they were on The Plaza. Â The service is always friendly and spot on. Â I have never had a bad meal here and have had meals ranging from ahi tuna to shrimp enchiladas to lobster. Â If it's on their menu, I've probably tried it at least once.
Also, Bristol has an amazing Sunday brunch that is better than any other brunch I've found in Kansas City. Â They have a great Happy Hour, too, where one has an opportunity to sample some great appetizers for an incredible price. Â The tuna tartare and roasted duck flatbread are two of my favorites.
Thanks, Bristol, for a reliably fabulous dining experience.
If you LOVE fish, run don't walk to Bristol.
Having spent years on the California coast, I wasn't ready to discover such a great lunch here in my new backyard. Â Ooops my snob is showing! Â But really, who expects great seafood in the Midwest? Â I settled into our cozy table under the beautiful stained glass dome ceiling and set my expectations about on par with Red Lobster. Â
Our party of five consisted of business colleagues celebrating a great month of production. The cheddar biscuits arrived piping hot and were served to us within moments of placing our order. Â The server was actually carrying around the baking pan and using tongs to hand them out. Â Beware, they just keep coming, and it's hard to stop eating them. Â I had been forewarned and made a heroic effort to only eat two before my meal arrived. Â
I ordered the Power Lunch combo and chose the Ahi Tuna Sushi and a bowl of the lobster bisque. Â I knew right away that I was in for a treat when the bisque arrived. Â The aroma was intoxicating. Â It was velvety and flavorful and I can't urge you enough to try it for yourself! Â The sushi was fresh and I will be a repeat customer.
Everyone else at the table took as much pleasure in their meals as I did mine. Â Bites of almond crusted tilapia went round the table as my one co-worker just had to have everyone "try this!" Â There were no to go boxes as we devoured all that we were given, though none of us felt that the portions were too small. Â Can't say we tried dessert.
It was a long leisurely affair, I wouldn't recommend going for lunch on a workday unless you have time to spare. Â I also wouldn't recommend this as a place friendly to those who don't enjoy fish/seafood. Â There were a few non-surf offerings but my husband would not have found anything to tempt him. Â Still five stars for us fish lovers!
This place is typically the top of our list for a nice dinner out. The char crusted ahi tuna may quite possibly be my favorite meal in all of Kansas City. A delicious ahi steak big enough to feed me for two meals? Yes, please. The waitress recommended it on my third trip to Bristol and I have had it every time since. I think about it for days in advance of our planned visits and mourn for days after I've had my leftovers.
The service is always impeccable and the ambiance is nice. If you love seafood, this is THE place to go in Kansas City. The wine list is big enough for everyone to find something they like. I'm yet to have anything less than a great experience at Bristol. I doubt I ever will.
I've been to the downtown Bristol location many times for work lunches and never had a bad experience. It's not often that I'm in the depths of Johnson County, but on this particular day the hubs and I were running errands, had skipped lunch and decided to try out Bristol's happy hour. I had heard many great things about it and was especially excited for him to have his first Bristol experience.
We stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon, where specialty martinis were $5.95/drink. The happy hour food specials in the bar were reduced to $4,$5 or $6 and oysters were $.75/piece. We started out with drinks--I chose the Blackberry Lemonade martini and he went with a Dirty Ketle One. The Blackberry Lemonade martini was the perfect amount of sweet, with a tinge of sour. You can't go wrong with anything that has a prosecco float listed as one of its components. He liked his martini okay, but would have preferred it a little dirtier.
For our first round of appetizers , we ordered a half dozen oysters and the tuna tartare. The oysters were yummy and fresh--served over ice with a wasabi vinaigrette and a cocktail sauce with fresh horseradish, which were both fantastic. Nothing beats fresh horseradish and in my opinion, any fine dining establishment that doesn't have it is not in fact one.The tuna tartare was just okay. I had experienced it before and this time around, it was a bit saltier that I remembered. There was some good heat to the dish, which the cucumber cut through nicely.
We ordered our next round of drinks, the Pink Pops martini for me and a glass of Malbec for him. My martini was more on the sweet side that I prefer, but I probably should have expected that. The Malbec by the glass option was the Gaston, which we've both had before. A decent wine, but I'm not sure it was worth the $9.50 price tag.
Next, we tried the Calamari (free when checking in on Yelp!) and the Roasted Duck Flatbread. Both were good, but not outstanding. The Calamari had an excess of fried carrots and jalepenos and not a large portion of actual squid (possibly because it was the happy hour version?). The Flatbread had good flavor but the barbecue sauce overpowered what small pieces of duck were actually there.
Overall, we had a really fun afternoon over good drinks and food. I would definitely return for happy hour again, but probably at the downtown location as they have more than one drink special offered per day.
If you enjoy seafood then you gotta try this place. They offer fresh, never frozen seafood options that vary daily. They simply grill the fish perfectly, crisp on the outside and soft inside. It melts in your mouth.
Their service is professional, but friendly and their servers are very knowledgable. We went for my birthday and they even specially decorated our booth. Then I received $25 off an entree and free dessert because I'm on their email list. They mail you a bday card with coupon good for one month.
They also have great happy hour specials with live music in the bar. It's just a wonderful place to go for something special or just because you're hungry. It's one of my KC favs.
***This review is for brunch***
Make reservations for this absolute treat of a brunch. Â Think of absolutely everything, everything you could have for brunch. Â Wrap it in a lovely atmosphere and top notch service, and you're at Bristol.
You'll have to pay a lot for it, but it's worth it.
I'm the lone dissenting vote. Â We ate lunch here. Â Small portions and average food.
We had the Duck focaccia for an appetizer. Â It was a strip of flat bread with a few small pieces of duck over loaded in a sweet syrup sauce. Â I couldn't taste what little duck was there.
Salmon, asparagus and polenta for the main dish. Â Salmon was uneventful. Â I received four asparagus spears, ridiculous. Â Polenta was too runny and tasted like malt o'meal.
Maybe I'd have better luck with the evening meal or brunch. Â The bar seems to be popular. Â Several drinks from the bar might make the food seem like more than it is.
-Response to the restaurants comment: Â It's always a touch of class when the restaurant cares enough to read reviews and respond. Â I'll give Bristol another shot.
This is my favorite sea food place in KC. If you sign up you can get a free entree for your Birthday. Great drinks. The Blackberry Martini is my fav. The food is always cooked perfect. We go there every year for my birthday and a couple more time during the year.
They have nightly specials, seasonal foods. Great wait staff. Make a reservation or you may not get in.
The steaks and chicken are just as good as their seafood. My seafood disliking husband tends to order food that has feet. He has never had a bad meal either. LOVE this place.
I've reviewed the P&L Bristol recently and thought I'd compare apples to apples and visit their Leawood location as well.
I've been here many times, but haven't visited in probably a year or so. Â We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed as usual. Â We were greeted by the GM and hostess (who I know pretty well) and were seated in the back room behind the bar. Â We had two servers for our party of seven, and they did an excellent job. Â
We ordered four dozen oysters and they were awesome. Â The guy that prepared the oysters even gave us more than we asked for. Â Everyone's meals were well prepared and came out with perfect timing. Â We had a few bottles of the Pahlmeyer Jason to top it off. Oh, almost forgot to mention that the GM Pete sat and ate w/ us as well. Â Pretty good service when the GM pulls up a chair and has a meal with you.
Overall, outstanding.
Wow. Â We had been here once, several years ago, and don't really have a good reason for not going back until recently. Â It was my husband's birthday (he's old -- 50) and I made our reservations through OpenTable. Â Since it was a weeknight, I really didn't expect it to be crowded, but I was wrong. Â We were glad we had the reservations as they were full, and several people were waiting. Â I indicated on my reservation request that it was a birthday, and the table was decorated accordingly. Â Nice touch.
For appetizers, my old man had the steamed littleneck clams, and I had the calamari. Â He raved about his dish, and my calamari was some of the best we've tried in the midwest. Â The sweet and sour sauce that came with was delicious. Â
OM also had the lobster bisque. Â He didn't really speak while he was eating it, so I assume it was a hit as well.
For entrees, I ordered the salmon. Â It came on a bed of scalloped potatoes with creamed leeks. Â There really are no words to describe this dish . . . the mustard vinagrette that came with (or around, really) this dish was what brought everything together.
OM ordered the scallops with wild mushroom risotto -- he was very pleased, especially with the quality of the scallops as we live in a land-locked state. Â
For dessert -- we had carrot cake. Wow. Â Double wow. Â
I think that I went into the Bristol with a nonchalant attitude, but came away impressed with their attention to detail, their excellent sauces, and overall quality of ingredients. Â Go there. Â But, be sure you make reservations.
For Midwest seafood, it does the job. I'm no foodie, but I love seafood and it's done here with decency. I did just recently revisit this location about 3 weeks ago, but my memory is terrible. Plus, I had had a few drinks, so I didn't savor my food like I typically would've. Nevertheless, I have been here over a dozen times, so I thought I should write a review.
This last time, I started with 2 single oysters. I asked for the briniest oysters they had because I don't know different oyster types that well. In my book, any oyster satisfies, but the smaller, saltier, brinier ones invoke big smiles. So I specifically asked for anything BUT Bluepoints, as they are a bit mild. But what did he do? He brought me Bluepoints. Oh well. They sufficed. Besides, I really love their sesame oil mignonette. It's always absolute perfection.
For my entree, I ordered a whole lobster and the mushroom risotto. The butter that accompanied my lobster was perfect - not too bland, not too salty; clear when settled, creamy translucency when stirred. The lobster was lobster. It wasn't overcooked or undercooked. They did a perfect job of pre-cracking the crustacean, so getting to the meat was no problem. I was underwhelmed by the risotto. I can't put my finger on it, but something was off there. Overall, the dinner was fine, but nothing to rave about. Some pluses: The biscuits and butter were good, as usual. Their mojitos were good, as usual. And service that night was exceptionally great. I'll have to say, he was the best server (even with his oyster goof-up) I've had in a while - extremely polite, accommodating, and proper.
Outside of this visit?
lobster mac 'n cheese - I don't know why I enjoyed this so much the first time, it has fallen short every time since
monchong w/ orange buerre blanc - the sauce was good, its citrus flavor not so prominent as to overpower the flavor of fish, but I wasn't monchong's biggest fan. Too tough and steak-like. As much as I love most fish, even steakier fish like halibut and swordfish, this was not my favorite. I couldn't tell if it was overcooked. Doubtful. If you're still curious (WHY?), it was a pretty mild fish.
Atlantic salmon w/ mustard vinaigrette - I love me some salmon sashimi, but I rarely love cooked salmon. And though the server that night seemed irritatingly in a hurry the whole time, I took his recommendation when he said it was the best dish on the menu. It was incredible! The fish was so unbelievably tender, each bite melted on my on my tongue. I almost dropped tears. It's the best cooked salmon I've ever had. I hate to discredit myself by saying this, but I'll admit I rarely order my salmon cooked. However, please remember that I'm a seafood LOVER, and I say this was divine.
creamed leeks - love leeks, these were just okay. 'Nuff said.
sage potato gratin - the way it's layered is fun. Yes, I said "fun". If you can ignore the pool of grease beneath it, you'll sing the yummy song as you peel off the layers of potato. Perfect firm/tender balance.
lobster bisque - so, so delicious. The only downside to this fabulously rich soup is that it doesn't have lumps of lobster in it. The lobster pieces are microscopic, at best.
gumbo - this was really, really average. I was so mad I'd opted to try this when I could've had their awesome lobster bisque. Don't get this!
roasted crimson beets - your typical "fancy" salad - sparsely-spaced, long, rectangular dish. About 5 pieces of fabulous beet dot the plate, decorated with all your yummies - candied nuts, gorgonzola cheese, watercress. What's not to like?
And if you don't mind hanging with the blue hairs while taking in some jazz, then give happy hour a try:
75¢ Bluepoint oysters on the half shell - you can't beat this with a stick!
$5 cheeseburger - really awesome if you have a seafood-hating friend - decent size, too
Crab spring rolls - servings aren't huge, but these hit the spot in lieu of something fried and greasy
Calamari - theirs isn't my favorite on the planet with the terrible remoulade, but they're okay. They're just wispy - thin and "barely there"
I've also had brunch here, but honestly can't remember much about it. I remember leaving and feeling like it was pretty good, but a bit too expensive. I'll try it again and update the review.
In summary, this place can get expensive at dinner, but happy hour is really reasonable. It's Kansas, people! This is about as good as seafood gets here. Ignore the airhead hostesses when you walk in because the servers usually make up for it. (Harder to ignore, they don't serve Chilean sea bass.) But this place deserves all 4 of the stars I gave it.
I love seafood, and this is some of the best in the midwest. My mother and I came here and had a lovely meal of appetizers, entrees and a wine flight (or two!) The salmon flatbread is awesome! For the main course I had scallops and risotto, and she had the mixed seafood platter. Both were great. We did not save room for dessert.
The 3 stars are a reflection of the poor service we received. Our server acted... indifferent. Like he could care less if we liked or disliked our food or beverages, was short (in attitude, not in height) and really set a grumpy tone to our meal. Thank goodness it takes more than that for my good ol' mom and I to NOT have fun!
I want to return for Happy Hour, and I highly recommend the wine flights!
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace. - Kate Chopin, The Awakening
What was ordered:
1 single Oyster on the half shell $2.50
1 single Oyster on the half shell $2.75
2 Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes $14.00
2 Cups of Maine Lobster Bisque $11.00
2 Lobster Lobster Mac n' Cheese $9.00
1 Roasted Root Vegetables with Bacon $3.50
My thoughts on each dish:
Oysters: I've had fresh oysters on both coasts and can efficiently shuck them with a butter knife. (Find the notch and with a quick jabbing motion, twist.) These two oysters were quite mutilated by the time they reached me with their abductor muscles still being attached.
Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes: Creole remoulade that had a spicy kick with mango tartar sauce to cool said kick. Really strong dish and beautiful presentation. Tasted of the sea and not of the breading.
Lobster Bisque: On a cold Kansas night this bisque hits the spot! Not overly salty and not spicy. Served with large starchy crackers to soak it up.
Lobster Mac n' Cheese: Served as a seasonal side this dish is a steal for just $4.50. Created using with what I believe is fusilli pasta, this dish showed restraint. The cheese could have been amplified but at the risk of overpowering the lobster. The white truffle bread crumbs added a nice texture. An overall aesthetically and palette pleasing dish.
Root Vegetables with Bacon: This was the one dish that disappointed and for a simple, easily corrected reason: The chop of the vegetables was too small. It was very difficult to distinguish one vegetable from the next. The Color and texture of the vegetables were lost. The apple smoked bacon had a great flavor.
Should mention that service from J.T. was outstanding.
A big thank you to fellow K.C. Yelper Ken B. for recommending Bristol Seafood Grill.
The restaurant is attractive, with its Tiffany glass domed ceiling. Â Bristol is certainly among the more expensive restaurants in the metro, but it's worth it. Â After all, you're paying for air-freighting express-delivered fresh sea food from all over the world to landlocked suburbia. Â The Bristol is definitely a place you can bring out-of-towners who imagine everything in K.C. is barbeque shacks! Â The food and service are excellent. Â When you get that craving for fish or seafood, this is the place to satisfy it!
The range of fresh fish is extensive. Â As another Bristol reviewer has pointed out, the flavor of fish is subtle. Â The main differences are the texture of the fish -- some are meatier, others are more tender and flaky, but in terms of taste many fish are interchangeable with each other. Â (Salmon and tuna are exceptions.) Â Preparation is everything -- and usually the simpler the better, so the delicate flavor of the fish isn't masked by a strong flavored sauce or seasoning. Â The Bristol mesquite-grills its fresh fish, giving it a lovely, light smoky flavor that doesn't overhelm the fish. Â
I haven't been to brunch, but the menu looks intriguing, and the brunch is reasonably priced for a high-end one. Â I'll definitely have to try it!
The happy hour prices are also great -- 75 cent oysters are an almost unheard of bargain (but check out the 50 cent happy hour oysters at nearby Café Roux), and the reasonably priced appetizers at happy hour mean you can put together a nice light dinner for considerably less than dining from the main menu.  It's worth noting that on Sunday they have happy hour until 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday they feature bargain priced 6 oz. lobster tails in addition to the regular happy hour menu items.  My sister and one of her friends go for happy hour regularly and love it! Â
All in all one of the best choices for dining in Kansas City if your taste runs to seafood. Â And they do have some prime steaks and combinations if you have non-fish lovers in your party. Â One of the nicest restaurants in town, without a doubt!
This falls somewhere in the 3-4 stars range.
Pretty good for Kansas City. But are stars relative to an area? Or are they absolute? Should we compare restaurants in Kansas City against San Francisco or New York? Is that even fair?
That speculation aside: This place is a very solid place to go. I'm feeling positive about the place I'll round up.
I was on an airplane just after moving to KC when I noticed the in flight magazine had Bristol in KC as one of the best seafood restaurants in the country.
I thought, 'that is ridiculous, best seafood in the country in kc? Bristol must have paid for that'.
Well it's true. Bristol is great.
When it comes to seafood, the sauces and sides are what makes the dish. Seafood is plain, it's tender, its soft, but it's plain. It's like a blank canvas. The dish is made by the sides and the seasoning, and the Bristol chefs knows what they're doing.
They reprint their menu daily with fresh fish and everything we've had here has been great. I've had something different almost every time I've been here and I've never regretted getting one thing over another. Swordfish, Mahi Mahi, Chilean sea bass. Come here for a world class fresh selection.
Everything is on the pricey side, but we've never left unhappy. The service is excellent and if you've ever wanted to have some wine with dinner, this is the place to do it. It will only enhance the meal.
The lobster bisque and the crab cakes are delicious.
