The main reason I went to this place is because I wanted to check out the atmosphere of the restaurant, because I am huge elephant lover.
Elephants, Elephants I wanted to take a door handle and a painting I saw in there home, and the decoration they have around the bar is so neat. Â
I'm going to start off with my biggest complaints then i'll end with my positives. Â It was probably just bit on the pricey side for me to drive across town. Â And the food on my second trip there was a little under seasoned but wasn't bad.
The food on my first trip was better than my second trip. Â I had the chicken and ribs and those were really good. Â The ribs were fall off the bone good, and the chicken was fairly moist. Â My friend ordered a wrap that was on the appetizer and it was really good, she told me that is what she always ordered. Â
So I could see myself returning if I was already on that side of town, but i don't think I was get in my car and just go there.
The hubby and I have been here a number of times for their reverse happy hour. They have a late night happy hour on weekdays that is nicely-priced. The food options are a bit limited for their HH and lots of them are fried or overly starchy, but some of the food is pretty ok. Tonight, my hubby had a hamburger which is an incredibly rare occurrence for him. I took a big bite out of it and it was really pretty good. We also ordered the Korean tacos from the HH menu and they were also pretty good. The salad that comes with them is really nice with a refreshing fruity dressing. We've noted that some of their drinks can be a bit watered down/weak at times, but tonight my mojitos were just right.
Unfortunately, service can be really spotty here. We've had great service, but also pretty bad service. Tonight we had the latter. Our waitress was slow and flighty. She started out our meal by complaining to us about her lack of sleep. She then went on to show us over and over how getting up at the unbearable hour of 6 a.m. can screw up her customers' experience. Someone else ended up delivering our food. Glad they did because I'm sure if it were up to here, we'd still be at the restaurant waiting. "Can we have more napkins, please?" Ten minutes and much messiness later, no napkins. "Can we have more napkins, please?" Icy glare. Napkins show up a few minutes later. We then get left alone for the remainder of our meal and when our waitress returns, we ask for the bill. She asks if we want anything else and we say, "No, thank you." Ten minutes later, she returns, no bill. She asks if we wanted another drink. "No, just the bill." Another ten minutes or so pass and we don't see her anywhere. By now, we just want to get out of there. We go to the bar and ask if they can check us out. One of the bartenders goes to hunt our waitress down but can't find her. She finally returns with the bill saying she had to find the manager to fix the bill so we could get the HH prices. Really? They can't just ring up the correct prices themselves? Seems odd. I rarely give small tips, but I only gave her 10% and I still feel guilty about it, despite the fact that she earned no tip. It's just me. If this had been our first experience at Elephant Bar, I can tell you that we would never bother to return. But we'll probably still go back every now and then and hope for another waitress. Yeah, it's chain food and not a consistently good experience, but the prices are right and sometimes it's just the right place at the right time.
