They have a good selection of po-boys and very reasonable priced. However, I wasn't much of a fan of their beignets. I was expecting a Cafe Dumonde style beignet that is kind of hollow and very light but theirs was a disaster. It was so doughy and chewy you really need to dunk them in the raspberry and chocolate sauce which were equally disgusting.

Tasty Po Boy's at B's!! The bread is very good. If you order the oysters, get at LEAST 3 extra's for a good sized sammich. The sweet potato fries were also very good. I will eat here often I'm sure.

Came in to try B's poboys. I've been looking for a poboy place in Indy for a long time, being a transplant from southern Louisiana.

There were pros and cons. I think a shrimp po boy is the best way to measure the sandwich. Both my wife and I ordered these shrimpy beauties, and loved them. Bread was authentic, shrimp were tasty and appropriately battered , toppings were fresh.  On top of that, they had Abita turbodog, 1 of my Louisiana favorites. Those were the pros.

As for the cons, salad and fries were fine. Nothing special, good or bad there. The remoulade was tasty but really smokey (too much so).  The side items in general were fairly limited and everyone should notice that the menu is on the small side. They're shooting for a diner feel so this fits, but I'd love to see some other options. I think the biggest con was the beignets. Frankly said, they were more like a fried roll that a true beignet. Really just too thick and over fried to be authentic.

I will go back, the poboys will call to me eventually. I'm interested to see how they continue to develop as they build a bigger crowd. Of course its the middle the winter right now and I'd love to come and see everybody outside playing bocce ball.  Overall positive view of b's po boys, looking forward to trying the fried oysters next time!

If you took a 50s-style diner and puked up Bourbon Street on it, you'd have B's Po Boy. Despite the disgusting visual I just left you with, this is a good thing in my book. Who doesn't like a classic diner or Bourbon Street?

There is an estimated 6 tables and a bar for maybe 6 diners in this cozy Fountain Square establishment. It's a bit drafty in the winter months, so layer on an extra shirt - - it's worth fighting off the goosebumps. As for the summer, grab a picnic table outside by the bocce court!

Bebidas: I can't say that I'm a PBR fan (actually, I can't even come close to saying it) but the deal of $5 pitchers of this hipster juice had us buying not one, but two. We also tried the Abita pecan beer (yum). Next time, I'm going sans-alcohol and guzzling down some of the red cream soda!

Food: Our group of seven ordered a fair variety off the menu -meaning, Brittany stuck her hands onto everyone's plates and turned the dining experience into a B's sampling event for one. Highlights: sweet potato french fries (order with remoulade) - I appreciated that the fries weren't greasy or covered in excessive breading. Spot on. My other favorite from the meal was the andouille sausage with white rice and red beans - - deeeeellllicciooouss (insert voice from Jazz it up with Zatarain's!!). Nice little spicy kick added from the sausage.

Why 4 and not 5 stars? Beignets: I was pretty pumped and looking forward to these fluffy puffs of dough I had had several times at Cafe du Monde; however, B's ended up tasting more like biscuits with a hard outside and dry inside. $3.50 for 5 beignet served with chocolate and raspberry sauces (not a bad deal!). Maybe I just hit 'em on an off night?

For merely just being sandwiches, po boys make me so, so happy, and I have to say, B's has the best po boys I have had in Indy.  The secret to a good po boy, at least in Indy?  It's the bread.  Most places I have been to in Indy have not used fresh, chewy bread, which is what truly separates a good po boy from a poor po boy.  (Like that?  Poor po boy?)

I guess I'm not really an expert.  Po boys in Tennessee, where I grew up, were actually worse than what I've found in Indy.  However, during that month I lived along the Gulf Coast in Mississippi, I was eating so many fried shrimp and fried oyster po boys, I had to start working out twice a day to avoid gaining weight.  I truly love great seafood po boys!

During my recent stop here, a friend and I each got a full sized po boy and shared.  So I was able to try both the shrimp po boy and the andouille sausage po boy.  I sprinkled on a wee bit of hot sauce onto the shrimp po boy and it was perfect.  The andouille sausage po boy had its own kick and so no hot sauce was needed.  For testing purposes, we also tried out the regular French fries and sweet potato fries.  Both were crispy and fairly good.  I just wish I hadn't forgotten about the hot sauce at that point--it could have made the fries even more fun by mixing it in with my ketchup.

We ended the meal with beignets and so should you.  We tried out the chocolate sauce on the side; I look forward to trying out the raspberry sauce the next time.

I can't wait to try out the barbecue shrimp and oyster po boys!!

Oh.  And they have Abita.  My favorite beer.  FAVORITE BEER!  Then there's Sun King, too, one of my other favorite beers.  What more could any place ever offer?

Oyster po-boy on flaky bread. Yum. Yum. Abita Beer and a side of sweet potato fries only make the authentic simplicity of your Nawlins (by the way no one says that) food experience all the more enjoyable.

Tried another carry-out meal today. Had the BBQ Pork Poboy, Spicy Sausage Patty Poboy with sides of Red Beans and Rice.

Again, I should really eat in, the BBQ Pork Poboy got soggy pretty quickly. That's my fault though. It was really good, great smoky flavor. Seriously, the remoulade must have crack in it. It's amazing.

Today's trip was far more affordable than my last ($21 plus tip for two of us). Clearly, all that shrimp is costly (understandably so).

Worth the drive...good stuff happening here.

I was disappointed by B's.  That doesn't mean it was bad by any means, I just wasn't that impressed with the food.  I've eaten there twice and while I would certainly eat there again, it's not on my radar and I don't crave it.  The style and decor of the restaurant is cool and contemporary with touches from the bayou.  There's a bar with craft beer on tap, an outdoor patio, and a bocce ball court that is a big draw in the summer.    If you're in the Fountain Square area and like Po-Boys definitely give it a try.

Another fantastic po'boy sandwich this evening with fried oysters and......beer battered onion rings!!! OHHHHHHHHH BABY!  Worth that 90 minute drive for this kind of food.
Also, they serve local brewed Sun King beer -

Thanks for great food, great service and great atmosphere!!!

I've waited to review B's until after about 4-5 visits. I wasn't sure at first. I thought the half sandwich was too small for the price. I kind of still feel that way, so just get the full one if you are hungry. It is worth $9. Everything is a bit more expensive than I would prefer, but the quality seems to be there so I can't complain too much.  I can't say the sides do anything for me, mostly because I haven't paid them much attention. The oyster po boy and the roast beef po boy are my faves so far. The damn roast beef po boy... It is a sloppy mess and not what I expected the first time I had it (it is not like arby's), but dayum. Dump some hot sauce on it for more po boy fun.  It is a totally different experience than the other po boy dude in town. There is room for both, people.

Hey Thanks to all of you who recommended Papa Roux.  Papa Roux was awesome and the Po Boy was to die for there.  The difference was night and day.  I wish I would have read these reviews before going to B's and not after.  Thank God I read them and learned about a great place to eat a fantastic Po Boy and sorry it wasn't even close B's.  Papa Roux blew you out of the water.  Papa Roux had higher quality, a lot more food which is basically better value for the money spent, and super fast and friendly service.

This isn't Papa Roux's. Get over it everybody. Because B's Po Boy is better. If you don't want all of your sandwiches drowned in a special Cajun sauce then eat here. If you want a traditional po boy sandwich, then eat here. And, if you want the best sweet potato fries ever, eat here. OH! And if you want a beer or wine beverage with your meal......eat here! Plus, B's atmosphere is cool-looking, inside & outside. Tip: try the creole chicken salad Po boy and thank me later.

Best po boy I've had outside of Louisiana and East Texas. And I've eaten a number in them in a wide variety of towns. Indianapolis has redeemed itself on "cajun" in my mind after that ridiculous Papa Roux attempt at what they called a po boy.
I read about this place in Nuvo and knew that I needed to try them. It sounded like the  owner was putting in a solid effort to be a real po boy shop.
And I love seeing a new place in Fountain Square. If only Indy had good transit between Downtown and Fountain Square, and we could ferry some of the chain-going hoards in Downtown out there. Such a great area.
This is addressed Shelby, by their parking lot is accessed from the alley behind Shelby, and there's no street parking out front. They have a nice patio that faces the street, a bocce ball court, a few tables in the interior, and even a bar. Yeah, they have good, local beer on tap. It's not cheap, but it's good and it's local. If you want cheap, they have $2 pints of PBR.
And this is not a cheap place to eat at either. You're going to be paying roughly the French Quarter or Parasols prices for your po boy. They serve halves and fulls, with fulls starting at about $8. They have a variety of sides, including red beans & rice. The price is worth it. Really.
They have a number of different po boys, including shrimp, oyster, roast beef and andouille sausage. They also do lunch specials, where they have a half of the non-seafood po boys plus a side for something like $8. Really not bad.
I had the catfish po boy. I can't resist catfish, even in Indiana. Looking at the menu, and listening to them talk about the menu, I was really impressed. #1: they have what Louisianans call the hot sausage po boy. Here though called it a spicy sausage po boy (it's not really that spicy). But it's still what it is. #2: they serve the roast beef po boy correctly, with brown gravy. I think this po boy is gross, honestly, but that's the way it's supposed to be done. My catfish was $11 for the full, and I got a side of red beans & rice. Also can't resist that.
The catfish was nice. I mean, it was frozen, but where are you going to get fresh catfish in Indiana? Fried chunks of it, with a good breading. The sandwich bread itself was very good. I was most impressed with the red beans & rice though, I think. A little overboard on the beans to rice ratio, in terms of beans, but it had a really nice flavor. I don't normally like it when they try to get fancy and throw other stuff in there or spice it up (that's what hot sauce is for), but I can't knock this stuff. It's very good. No need for hot sauce this time.
They also had Crystal hot sauce on the table, which is a big plus since that's what you see on tables in Louisiana a lot of times (Tabasco is expensive, even there). So I had my catfish dry, but added the hot sauce. Very good eatin'.
Best po boy ever? No, but that's a tall order. It beats a lot of what I've had in New Orleans though, and even some of the places in Houston.
Like I said, great addition to the area. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.

That was good. Had the original fried shrimp Po Boy and loved every second of it. Tons of shrimp! I also had a side of red beans and rice and it was good, but IMO not worth the price, especially if you get a whole Po Boy. Sat outside on the patio and played bocci ball while we waited and after we ate. Fountain Square keeps getting better.

Since I haven't been to New Orleans (or anywhere in Louisiana), I can't speak to how authentic the food is, but one things for sure: It's damn good.

I had the half-size portion of the oyster po boy with fries and remoulade, and the beignets for dessert.  The sandwich was a good size, and I noticed that you can add extra oysters if you so desire. Might try that next time!  The fries were standard, nothing special, but the remoulade was nice and spicy.

This brings me to the beignets....... Make sure you have someone to share these with. They're amazing, but there are 5 big ones to an order. Holy cow.  Do yourself a favor and get both the chocolate and the raspberry sauce.... there's not really enough in one to go around.

Top it off with a round of bocce and your evening is bound to be great.

Did I mention $5 pitchers of PBR? Not my favorite beer in the world, but can you really go wrong with a $5 pitcher?

Bad service! It is rare that I go out of my way to write a review, let alone create an account just so I can write this review, if that explains how badly it bothered me. Was really excited about this place and the food sounded great, but staff was rude and uncompromising. They had a special for a half sandwich and a side for $7.50 listed on their menu board before entering the place. Sounded great! Ordered a bbq pork sandwich with sweet potato fries, the server leaves to put in the order then comes back a few minutes later saying that it only comes with regular fries. Now I would understand if the sign specified fries, or said something like a daily side, but it didn't. I told the server the sign didn't specify a side, and she went to look then checked with the back again and came back saying that it said "a side" not "any side". At this point I was annoyed, but I asked if I could pay the $1 difference for sweet potato fries and she said sure and walked away. After thinking about it, I decided to leave instead because I really don't appreciate having a bait and switch tactic being used on me. I wouldn't have even really been interested in the "deal" had I known it was limited to their choice of side. I went to the front to tell them I'd rather leave than stay, and they said they change the side daily. I said then you should specify that rather than just saying "a side" because it was misleading. The owner or manager or something then just said something to the server and waved us off saying "don't worry about the drinks, thanks a lot" in a rude tone. All in all if this is how they regularly operate, I don't recommend them at all. A simple specification of a daily side or something, or training the wait staff to inform you of the specific side when ordering would have made it much better. In this case they should have given me my side, eaten the tiny cost difference and changed their signs accordingly, especially since they are written in chalk!

I have visited New Orleans multiple times and have been searching for a decent place with fresh food... I found it! This place the food comes out quick and very fresh!! The food was perfect portion to prevent me from leaving stuffed but satisfied. Try the fried shrimp po boy and red bean side, it's phenomenal! Elizabeth was our server she was so nice and helpful, and didn't even mind that we opted to sit outside in 90 degree heat. I can't wait to come back!!!!

Good Po Boys with authentic bread.  My issue was with the cost.  I got a full size BBQ shrimp Po Boy ($9).  I read online that the portions are pretty skimpy so get the extra shrimp.  Well, that was an additional $6.  I also got a side of creole slaw for $2.  That's $17 for a sandwich and a side and didn't include the 2 $7 sunking cream ales I had to wash it all down.  A bit much if you ask me.

Save your money and go to Papa Roux.  $5 PBR pitchers and good, New Orleans bread are the only reason for 2 stars at this Fountain Square spot.  It essentially feels like someone typed "po boy" and "new orleans" in Google and tried to open a restaurant.  No hot sauce from Louisiana?  Are you kidding me?  That was only the tip of the iceberg.  It seemed like ordering double shrimp on a half sandwich means you get 4 crustaceans instead of 2.  The bbq shrimp is shrimp with bbq sauce on it-not the bbq shrimp that every chef in New Orleans would debate you for hours on why theirs is the best.  yada, yada, yada.  I digress.

I was really hoping for a taste of the Big Easy, but was greatly let down.  Fortunately, there are many other quality choices available in Fountain Square to make it worth a trip down there.

This has to be Po Boy Central in Indy. They get their bread directly from The Big Easy and that alone can make a good sammich spectacular.A friend and I tried a half Andouille,a half oyster and a half ham.The least tasty was the ham.It was merely okay, the kind of deli style ham you can get at a lot of places. The sausage was surprisingly good and spicy. The reason I was slightly surprised was they get it from Ireland;so I wasn't sure what to expect.I would imagine a Dublin-er would be just as skeptical of a stout brewed in the Quarter of New Orleans. The oysters were outstanding. They alone are worth a return trip. But next time it will be a half with extra oysters and a side of chicken and sausage gumbo. Not that the sweet potato fries were bad, they actually were pretty tasty. It's just that I have to try gumbo any where it is offered. So all you Yankees if you want a taste of Cajun try B's.

Really enjoyed dinner here last Sunday night. Was right after a little rain cloud rumbled through and dropped the 12-day-straight ridiculously high temps down about 20 degrees. So with all that said, I sat outside and it was great! Overcast and a little breezy made for great conditions. The patio is fantastic! It's clean, very open and 2 bocce ball courts open to play on to boot! So fun!

For dinner, I started with a side of the red beans and rice. Although simple, it's tasted great. Perfect heat note to it! I followed that up with the fried shrimp po boy that is filled to the gills with little shrimpies. The shrimp is fried very lightly. Really nice. It's served with lettuce, pickle, tomato and mayo on some incredibly crispy, yummy bread. The bread is what sets this sandwich apart. They say they truck it in weekly from Louisiana on a refrigerated truck. I don't know if it's true but it's a good story to tell!

One gripe I do have, and mind you it's very small, is that the po boy was a little bland or under-seasoned. But I rectified that with a side of their home-made rémoulade. It was an awesome addition to the sandwich.

    Good beer selection.

They also have a beignets dessert that I saw, but didn't get to enjoy it myself because I was way too full. Next time though! It looked fantastic!

Summary: GO! Support local! Get full! You will love.

Tried B's Po Boy for dinner a couple of nights ago and enjoyed the cool Fountain Square location...even if I could hear people that live in the house next to the parking lot yelling at each other.  Sounds like maybe the hot weather made them just a little bit cranky or something.

Head to head comparison vs. Papa Roux:

    Bread - B's Po Boy

Main ingredient - Papa Roux (for flavor and amount)

Side dish - Papa Roux (B's charges $2 for what is basically a double shot glass of cole slaw)

Put the ingredients from a Papa Roux sammich into B's Po Boy's bread and you'd have the ultimate po boy in town.  Might want to look into that bread Papa.

    I'm just sayin'...

Small, ultra casual, with great food. My oyster po boy was perfect. The oysters had a crisp light breading and were moist and tender inside. The creole coleslaw had a nice spice about it. We also tried the sweet potato fries. They were very finely cut, but remained crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The beignets were a treat for desert. Fresh and hot, one serving was enough for two. The chocolate dip that came with them was just OK. I think next time we will try the raspberry.

P.S. Nice cold beer on tap and in bottles. Lots of outside seating

The hubby and I decided to dine here on Saturday for lunch. I pass by here a lot and well, I open my front door and it's staring at me. After trying Papa Roux's a couple weeks back, I was in the mood for another po boy.

We went around 1 on Saturday and there were a decent amount of people. The place is new and everyone wants to check it out. I enjoyed the decor especially the framed voodoo dolls. Interesting touch, sophisticated yet funky. I liked the beer options and the menu on the chalkboard wall. Everything was clean, spiffy looking, and I came ready to be impressed.

I was impressed by our service and the overall experience. The bread indeed is excellent..it hails from New Orleans. The sandwiches were good, the fries were ok (typical fries, nothing special-sad face),  and enjoyed watching people play bocce ball. Our server was very friendly and explained everything to us that was on the menu. I appreciate that when you're a new customer. She came around and took all our trash and refilled our drinks regularly.

What I wasn't impressed with was the amount of food versus cost. When you live so close to other places that serve you at least twice as much for the same price, it's kind of sad. I mean sometimes it's ok to splurge and we did, but unless they do some changing with their prices, I don't think I'll be back unless for a bocce tournament. I felt kind of cheated. I came in with a huge appetite and ate all of my meal but was hungry pretty soon afterward. When I ate another po boy from a different joint, I don't think I ate til the next day!! Plus the fact that the sides are ok, but do not come with a sandwich is weird. That's just me. I look for a deal when I go out, and this place just doesn't have that.

Making a po-boy in this city you are going to be compared to Papa Roux, and this place didn't live up. Don't get me wrong the food tasted good. I'll second Jonathan M's opinion that the bread is especially awesome, but the portion to price ratio was lacking. I had the andouille sausage po-boy, which for a full serving was $9, with no side. It was good, but just not a good value. Also they had table service, which at a place like this is unnecessary, further running up the cost.

Let me say the location is very nice. I see myself coming back to get a pitcher and play bocce ball. But while the taste was up the with Papa Roux, the value isn't, so why change.

With a place like papa roux in town, B's had to do something different. They did! They got the authentic bread I remember from my few trips to Bourbon Street. I got their andouille sausage po boy and my pal got the bbq shrimp. They were fantastic. One problem, we both thought I have to go get a mickey d's burger after this. Unlike papa roux, you don't get alot of bang for your buck. The quality and authenticity of this place are second to none, but it will be hard to go here a lot knowing just up the street I can get a larger sandwich and sides for a lower price. As a previous reviewer stated, I can go to end of the line and get a full meal for what I spent on a sandwich minus tip here. Plus end of the line is one of my favorites!I will be back but hope they figure out their pricing.

My husband and I were excited when this place opened up in Fountain Square because 1. Po Boy Sandwiches are so yummy when they are done well 2. This place has tons of outdoor seating 3. It's in the heart of Fountain Square 4. They have Bocce Ball outside!

B's was exactly what we hoped it would be. The waiters were solid, they had great service, clean and good location. My husband got the traditional Po Boy shrimp sandwich made on bread the waiter says was flown in from New Orleans- delicious? Yes, it was.

They have decent vegetarian options, salads and nice side items. It is moderately priced and has lots on draft including wine.

It's a brand new place and we hope it does well. Definitely worth checking out, especially on a nice evening.

My boyfriend and I visited this place on opening day, and I'm definitely a fan. The ambiance was great, both inside and out - we had so much fun playing bocce ball while we waited for our food to come out. We ate inside, and loved the decor. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Even the bathrooms were pretty. You can tell that a lot of thought and work went into this place, and I can't wait to come back - I can easily see this becoming a Fountain Square staple.
The food was DELICIOUS. I got the fried oyster (half), and Matt got the andouille sausage (full) - both tasted amazing. The bread in particular really pulled it all together. We just got soda to drink, but they have a good selection of beer. We split an order of sweet potato fries, which were really good - thin with just the right level of crispiness.
The only thing that I'm taking a star off for is cost. It just seems a bit overpriced to me considering the amount of food you get, even if the quality is fantastic. Don't bother getting a half sandwich - you only save $3, and mine seemed more like 1/3 of what Matt got. Also, I think they should really consider making some sort of combo menu; they're going to be competing with places like The End where $10 gets you a sandwich and a side, whereas everything here is a la carte. It's also worth noting that when we walked in, we didn't realize this is actually a sit-down place - it's definitely no New Orleans Jimmy John's, so you have to calculate in a tip as well. Our bill ended up being close to $30 for two of us (with no booze).
That being said, we'll probably be back this weekend :) So happy that Fountain Square is home to a new delicious and unique restaurant!

Great decor, overall good spot. I had an andouille po boy, fried oyster po boy, and a side of red beans and rice. The po boys could have been a little more hearty for the price. More lettuce, pickle, mayo at least. The oysters were fresh and good size, could use a little more seasoning (Tony's). The red beans was good but the rice could have been a little better. I think it was jasmine rice and it was over cooked. They need to get some Louisiana hot sauce in there too!
It's their first day of being open so I'll  go back next week and see if they've tuned it up a little.
