I have been eating at Bugsy's since it first opened.  I have ALWAYS had awesome food here.  If you don't like thick crust be sure to order thin crust.  This is by far the best pizza we have had in the DC area!!!  Also, everything else we have ordered on the menu is delicious.

Forget my previous review. I will never set foot in this establishment again. After being a frequent customer and Bugsy's fan for the last several years, I am now a woman without a bar.
Brian( Bugsy) sold the bar and the new owner has fired Chris (aka Fish), the long time Bartender for no reason other then his cousin doesn't like Chris, in fact he let Chris show up to work and then fired him ( real classy Jerk!). Several regulars came in only to see Chris( the food has really gone down hill as of late) and we have all decided to find another local joint that actually cares what keeps the customers coming in. I hope this new owner fails miserably!

    BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I have been to Budgsy's in the past, but I took my mother and daughter there just after we went to the farmer's market last weekend.  We were sat quickly and moments after we were sat a roach walked across the TABLE.  I crushed it with a napkin and caught my breath, then looked down to see another roach (a bigger one) walking on my daughter's booster seat!  We were alerted our waiter, who resat us in the middle or the restaurant instead of against the wall.  We were unsettled, but thought, "alright, perhaps those bugs just came in from the outside." We were further shocked when another roach crossed the half wall next to our new table.  Understandably, we left immediately.  Bugsy's used to be a great neighborhood place, but they must be fumigated for public safety.

I really don't understand why people like this place. The pizza has terrible flavor with crust that tastes like stake beer covered in a mass of canned sauce and cheap cheese. The pasta is an experience I never wish to have again and I have never spoken to a nice person working there.

Wouldn't seat us outside even though there were empty tables and other diners enjoying their food and drinks on the patio.

The food was what you'd expect. Total pub food. I had the chicken cutlet which was dry but edible. Pretty sure the "sub roll" it came on was actually just pizza crust.  I'd probably come for pitchers of beer, and only eat when completely hammered.

Nice local place with awesome pizza!  We love to come here and grab their pizza and go for a picnic in Old Town.  Their pizza is delicious and a favorite.  It is very family friendly, and the prices you can't beat especially in Old Town.  The staff is courteous and professional, and all around we had a great time.

Bugsy's advertises that it uses 100% canola oil but actually uses a soy/canola blend. I have a soy allergy so I was glad I double-checked even though it is written on the menu multiple times in various places. I obviously couldn't eat the food.

We were walking around Old Town late afternoon on Saturday. The weather was nice so we wanted to sit outdoors & have a beer. We walked by this place & they had a couple of empty tables outside so we went in. The place was empty inside. There were about 4 people eating there.

The service was good. They quickly sat us down & took our drink order. We ordered a micro pitcher (3 beers) of Blue Moon for $15. The beer came & we ordered nachos. Everyone agreed the beer tasted bad. Flat, old, dirty taps, something was bad about it. The guys next to us said the same thing about their draft beer. We figured we would just finish the beer and not order anymore. The nachos were disgusting. There was a huge puddle of oil/grease at the bottom of the plate. So, the nachos were all soggy/oily, just gross. The portion was pretty small, so the guys ate it anyway.

We paid our bill & kept it moving. We just wanted to get a beer, so it wasn't worth the hassle of sending stuff back & waiting for new food/drinks. We all agreed we wouldn't go back there again.

This place is just what a local sports bar should be. It's not fancy or pretentious and  they have some of the best specials in Alexandria during Caps games ($3.50 Coors or Miller Lite). The pizza is worth getting and remember you're at a sports bar so don't be expecting gourmet but it's not greasy and I'll get it again. They also have a salad bar and a late night pizza buffet on Friday and Saturday nights.

Service is friendly without being overbearing and it feels like you're walking into a friend's basement to watch the game. I enjoyed this place and will be back, especially since they show all the Caps games.

I work in Old Town. My work occurs mostly during the day. Like a normal boring person.

So Bugsy's does all you can eat pizza and salad every day for, like, I don't know. Is it 10 dollars? When you get a soda and then you leave a tip too, since they keep bringing you drinks but you serve yourself pizza. Maybe it's a bit more than 10 dollars. Regardless it is NOT EXPENSIVE.

Ah, you say, but is it any good?

To which I reply, hey, man, come on. It's all you can eat. It's fine. They make lots of different kinds of it, which is neat. And they switch them up pizza by pizza (with obviously stalwarts like pepperoni and cheese).

    BUGSY'S EXPERIENCE:

Hmm, I think I'll have a slice of this interesting veggie.

    5 minutes later!

The veggie is gone! Now there's all sorts of sausage and what is that a pepper? That looks delicious.

    10 minutes later!

Now everything has completely changed again, and we've gone to deep dish!

    20 minutes later!

Probably shoulda explored the "salad" half of this 'all you can eat pizza and salad' option

    30 minutes later!

You are likely fuller than you've ever been in your life on pretty OK pizza.

I don't have any more thoughts about Bugsy's. But I'm eating there today, so.

Pizza is ok not great. If you are looking for a place to watch the game beware that the upstairs bar allows smoking.

    Went here for Superbowl 47.
They had some really good specials.

There wings were large and meaty but they put too much breading on them.

I read others rave about the onion rings, mine were cold and greasy.

The chicken quesedilla was OK, nothing too special.

I really liked the upstairs...great for game watching. They don't have 'huge' HD's but there are many and scattered around well. We found a large table in the back large enough to accommodate our group of eight.

I also liked all the sports memorabilia, most of it from the owners days as a Hockey player wiht the Canadeians, Penguins & Capitals.

The service was very good...all night long.
The Ravens beath the 49'ers, 34 to 31 in N Orleans...the game was delayed 35 minutes becuase the lights went out in the superdome.

Didn't try the pizza so can't speak to it.

Went there to meet up with some friends recently. It was a Saturday afternoon, and we had a table in the back of the upstairs bar. The place is pretty dingy and still allows smoking much to my chagrin. I really thought I was done with that toxic smell inside bars & restaurants for good.

The service certainly was not friendly, but it was prompt. The drinks are strong, and the pint size Bloody Mary's are very good if you enjoy them on the spicy side. The beers were not cheap. Around $6 a pop...and remember this was a Saturday afternoon. Seems a bit high.

My friends ate here, and while no one complained about the food, no one raved about it either. Typical bar fare. Not sure if they really have specialty here.

Will try to avoid this spot in the future.

This is a solid place--if you like a dive bar vibe (which I do).

Upstairs is dated and shabby, but has a cozy, lived in feel lacking in much of the rest of old town. The food is decent bar food and average pizza, but I don't think anyone walks into a place like this expecting much better--and it is DEFINITELY the cheapest place to grab a bite and a drink in the area. Unlike some of the other dive places in the area (Bayou Room, O'Shaugnessy's) this one hasn't taken up a strong hipster vibe--yet.

As a warning, if smoking bothers you too much, the upstairs does allow it.

The price for old town was great, but too bad the caliber of the food negates the cost. As soon I bit into the "made fresh daily" crust, the term "fresh frozen" came to mind. I was please with the liberal toppings, but that d@mn crust was just plain aweful!

Do you love 70s decor, mediocre pizza, and 20-inch CRT TVs to watch the BIG GAME? Then you shall love Bugsy's.

Yes, Bugsy's stands as an homage to the intentionally forgotten 1970s. There is very little special about it, yet I find myself going there for lunch buffets because where else is there to go for a quick bite around King and Union?

I'm certain the place only remains standing today because the owners paid off their mortgage ages ago, and since they have clearly decided to never renovate or update anything about the place, they have saved much money. Those savings are passed on to you in the form of forgettable food, and wood decor that I'm convinced can still give you cancer from the decades of smoking that it surely absorbed.

I don't want to slam the place too much. I mock it, but I kinda love all of those mockery-worthy things about it.

Just don't go here and expect anything other than straightforward, heavy pizza. They are not reinventing the wheel here, folks. I'm pretty sure no one working there has even heard of arugula or goat cheese. And that's OK. Go to Pizzeria Paradiso, Red Rocks, or Faccia Luna if you want a little more pretentiousness with your pizza. If you are happy celebrating the finest of red-blooded America, Bugsy's will make you cry greasy, patriotic tears.

What a great place to sit and watch football!

Boyfriend and myself stumbled upon this place on Sunday afternoon, sat upstairs and had a blast.

Only real cons- people can smoke up there, and the waitress was kind of rude/absent.

Anyway if there wasn't smoking allowed- this would be a GREAT cozy upstairs nook bar.

Lots of tvs so any seat worked well for watching. And the food was delish.

We had potato skins and the Florentine pizza. HOLY MOLY the pizza was seriously so freaking good, i really loved the pizza and am glad we had leftovers to take home!

Boy also really liked the Kelly's hard cider, and i had a coke.

Great ambiance- would be a 5 if people weren't blowing smoke in my face.

They also had really cute Halloween decorations up, which made it really cozy and sweet.

Lots of people comparing Bugsy's to a place across the street...horrid comparison. Bugsy's is an awesome neighborhood joint with one of the only two 'neighborhood' bars left in Old Town, Murphy's being the other.

The pizza an sandwiches are solid and I've never had service issues either downstairs or upstairs at the bar. I recommend the meatball sub or the meat lover's pizza.

The upstairs bar is a fun place that will remind you of your cool uncle's basement. And so what if they allow smoking? Isn't this America?

    Friendly clientele as well.

    MY FAVORITE ONION RINGS EVER!!!!

Boyfriend and I decided to come here for earlier games of the first football Sunday of the season.  Great choice!  The staff seemed really nice and the bartender was kind of a jokester and was pretty knowledgeable about football.  The crowd was very affable and laid back - everyone seemed like they were regulars.  The people next to us bought us a pitcher of Guiness because we switched tables with them!  That was exciting.

The beer list generally was nothing special, but I thought the food was fantastic.  Particularly the ONION RINGS.  I pretty much have loved every onion ring that has entered my mouth but these were particularly great.  They were VERY lightly breaded so you could see a lot of the thick juicy onions and they came in a huge pile and tasted amazing.  I believe it was $4 for the massive basket of onion rings?  I inhaled them.  Really, I think they are the best onion rings I have ever had in my life.

I also loved the pizza we ordered.  It was called playday deluxe or something like that and had pepporoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions and maybe something else.  It was pretty delicious.  Like some earlier, I also would classify it more as a thick crust than as a deep dish pizza but it was pretty damn good!

My one qualm about going to this place and probably the only negative I can think of is that they allow smoking upstairs.  I get horrible headaches from cigarette smoke and we both find the smell revolting.  However, it turned out not to be so bad here.  We sat right under a fan near the windows and there were only a couple of times where we got a strong whiff of smoke.  That was a relief.  Still, my clothes reeked afterward and had to go straight to the laundry.  Funny how that smell sticks so well to fabric.

Despite the smoking, we both really liked the laid-back vibe of the place as well as the food and the friendly people.  I am definitely a fan of Bugsy's and definitely recommend it for football!

Love the lunch time buffet.  You can't go wrong for the price.  May seem a little busy at time but thats the sign of a good pub.

May need to upgrade the POS system.  It could speed up those lunch time sales.

Bugsy's is a solid three star restaurant. That's not supposed to be a blow to their reputation or abilities, but rather, what it is. Just that. Three stars. In my opinion there are some things that Bugsy's does great, and some things that they do not so great. Average the two together, and this is what we get.

The great. I believe that the wings are some of the best wings I've been able to find around. They're huge, juicy, flavorful, and well worth the cost. I only wish that they offered larger quantities than 8 so that I didn't have to feel like such a fatty ordering multiple orders.

The not so great. The calzones and the pizza. It's hard to recommend this place for pizza when you have pizza paradiso less than a block away. It has a dive-y feel to it, so don't come here dressed in khakis and button downs. This is a casual place.

We came here for the pizza lunch buffet and I definitely got what I paid for. The pizza was edible but cardboard-y, and the deep dish is not deep dish - it's thick crust. The salad bar was standard 1990's selections. They have a few different kinds of pizza up in the window at any time which is nice, but not a ton of vegetarian options.

The layout of the buffet is difficult to maneuver. You basically walk into a dead end area and have to walk back through the other waiting people to get to your table.

It looks like it hasn't been updated since it was built, which concerns me for the kitchen...

Nothing special. And, nothing I'd purposely come back to.

I have eaten here several times and the word that comes to mind is consistency. I have had consistently stellar food, impeccable service, and friendly wait staff.   Downstairs is your traditional pizza restaurant that is usually packed on weekends with couples and families alike. I've eaten a few times downstairs, but I am more of an upstairs person.

Upstairs is the sports bar which allows smoking. If you come here twice and you don't feel like a regular, something is wrong. The bartenders and wait staff make it a point to know each and every person's name and make them feel like they are coming to a friend's place rather than a restaurant/bar. There is always a friendly face waiting to greet me whether I am with a group or by myself.  They have TONS of flat screens upstairs and make every effort to make sure the TV closest to you has your game showing. On football Sunday's they do a great job of making sure all the games are on and that the two biggest games have audio (which in normal bars can be tough to handle). When it comes to hockey season, Bugsy's is the next best thing to being at the Verizon center. There is always a great energy among staff and patrons. And you are more than likely to run into the owners on any given day.

Bugsy's really works hard to make sure it is your "neighborhood Cheers". When we have a big storm coming up (hurricane, snowpocalypse, etc) I make my way down to my "Cheers" to be in the thick of it with my friends. Bugsy's NEVER closes. During the snow, they were open AND delivered. When Old Town floods, they always keep their doors open. And most recently during Hurricane Irene, Bugsy's was the only place to stay open, serving up delicious hurricanes and laughs alike.

On top of all of that, the food is just plain good! Honestly, if I could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here, I probably would. Hey...I've heard of breakfast pizza right?!?!

Bottom line: The pizza is the tastiest...the wings are the biggest....there is not an item on the menu that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. You get exceptional food for an extremely affordable price. Bugsy's is the most down to earth non-pretentious place in Old Town. Staff bend over backwards to accommodate your needs and to make Bugsy's your first choice to grab a pie, watch the game, and kick back with friends. Trust me, Bugsy's doesn't disappoint

VA/DC/MD people are pretty picky in general it seems. For a sports bar, what more could you ask for. I've been to places like this 100x before in the past, so you can't say you didn't know what you were getting into. Being a smoker, I was glad to have that convenience upstairs.

Comfortable setting, cheap food and drinks (sort of). Our waitress was great and checked back on a regular basis. It wasn't too busy upstairs but still we got plenty of attention and care.

Food came out fast. Wings were good. Sauce was a little sweeter than I'm used to but ordered a bit of hot sauce on the side and that solved it. Good meatball sliders and pizza as well. Not sure about the pan pizza since we got the thin crust with pepperoni.

Beer was a bit high in price but I am used to my hometown prices. If I come back to the area I'll most likely swing by again. Even though I'm not a Caps fan..

    Bugsy's Power Play Pizza
    Bugsy's Famous Wings

Decided to watch the Saints vs. 49ers game here since Bugsy's upstairs is more a sports bar.  Little did I know, smoking is allowed upstairs and since it was January/February, the windows were closed.  The smoke was pretty strong, and I know, I know, I should have known not to come, but I just dealt with it.  However, the service was absolutely terrible.  The food was meh.  The game was AMAZING and thank god, there were so many screens that I could stay through 3 quarters of the game.

Our waiter took our order incorrectly, never filled my water, forgot my beer, and didn't ever apologize.  He was also fixated on the game and playing bully with new guests in the bar.

The wings were decent, not astounding, but definitely satiable.  The pizza was ok...I guess we didn't get to try the deep dish as we had wished, but again, waiter miscommunication.

With Pizza Paradiso across the street, a visit to Bugsy's was an anomaly, which will probably not happen again.  Next time, we'll have to find another friendlier sports bar.

Surprisingly hit the spot and then some. Stopped in with the family while visiting Old Town.  We orders two pies and an order of chicken tenders with fries.  We got two deep dish pies: meat lovers and bbq chicken.  Both were done well, had great taste, but what we found to like he best was the crust.  Not dripping in grease like most deep dish pies.  The bbq chicken pizza had sun dried tomatoes on it and they added a very nice balance.

The chicken tenders for the boys were a nice refreshing change of pace as they were not the standard frozen chicken strips from Sysco.   These were hand cut pieces of chicken that were rolled in a thin coating and then fried.  Great taste and the chicken was moist.  Pairs with an order of their fries, it filled a basket very nicely.

This was great stop and what I expected .... a pizza joint.  If you are looking for high brow, frufru then look elsewhere.  If you are looking for a pizza joint then stop on in.  I will go back again when in Old Town.

I work nearby and frequent the lunch buffet.  For under $10, it is a steal.  There is a decent salad bar which allows me to get my fill of veggies for the day - I load up on broccoli to justify the pizza I consume.  In addition to the salad bar regulars, there is macaroni salad, potato salad, and pickled green bean salad which are usually expensive on a pay per pound salad bar because they are heavy.  The only complaint I have about the salad bar is that sometimes the less popular veggies are getting noticeably old and there are no tomatoes.  But, you get what you pay for and honestly I feel like I get more than I am paying for.

There are two types of pizza on the lunch buffet usually - deep dish and regular.  They try to keep different varieties up at all times but usually the scope is: pepperoni, sausage (ground sausage is used), pepperoni and sausage, veggie (peppers/onions/mushrooms), margarita, and of course cheese - might be forgetting one or two other kinds.

Since I do not live in Old Town, the lunch buffet is all I have tried so I can not speak to the regular menu.  The service has always been excellent - drinks are always refilled before they are allowed to become empty.

I'm rating this place solely on 3 things: it's pizza, service & appearance as I have not experiences what other yelpers have commented on.

Pizza: I ordered the Margherita pizza which is considered a specialty pizza on their menu. My husband had a meat lover's pizza. Both of us were impressed with the taste and quality of the pizza as it was hot and looked fresh out the oven. 5!

Service: Slightly above average but that's it. The waiter was courteous and took our orders with out issue. But we did have to ask for basic items such as a straw for our drink & extra napkins. He also seemed to disappear for a while so it took a while to get our drinks as well as the check, minus 1 point

Appearance: There is an old school sports bar vibe to its ambience reminiscent of the  'Cheers' tv show. I can see why more finicky diners would be slightly repelled by this place. It is not the epitome of cleanliness, and that my friends is an important quality when you are serving food. This was not bad enough to get me to the exit door though, but i'll still minus 1 point.

Prices are reasonable, its a good option when youre on King street and wanna grab a bite to eat while being friendly to your wallet. Plus, there are many worse places on this street to get your dine on, so overall seems like a low risk to me.

I wish I could like Bugsy's because it has a cozy interior and deep dish pizza is hard to find around here, especially since the trend in pizza is wood-grilled gourmet thin crust a la Paradiso across the street.

After one of our beers arrived with a bug floating in it, we found a cockroach crawling across our table. Already feeling a little queasy, I started eating the buffalo wings with human hairs fried into the batter (I disliked the batter on chicken wings and the "hot" was not really hot at all, but that was the least of our problems at this point). Hoping it was an anomaly, we checked the rest of the wings and found hairs in all but one.

There were also human hairs in the pizza, but not as many as there were in the wings. The Power Play pizza was disappointingly bland, even with the pepperoni and sausage on it, but not terrible.

Do they stay in business only because tourists will reliably visit? I don't understand but I hope they invest in some hair nets soon.

Came here on a Wednesday night because it was close by and I love pizza, but unfortunately this place did not impress. When I visited, the DMV was having its wonderful heat wave so I was hoping for a little air conditioning but got none. What's up with that? Also, our server commented that he would fix our wobbly table (they had these wooden pieces on the floor near what looked like all the tables downstairs so maybe they have a wobbly table problem?) but it didn't help. But I was hungry and ready to try their pizza based on everyone else's rave reviews.

Ordered thin crust pepperoni with mushrooms and it came out quicker than I thought (the menu advises a 25 min wait), but a) it didn't seem very thin, b) too much cheese, and c) it was barely hot. I don't consider myself a pizza snob, but I've had better (ZPizza, Pete's, The Italian Store, Matchbox, Faccia Luna).

One last comment - I went to the ladies room, and from downstairs I had to go what seemed like to the back and past the kitchen and it was a mess! If you're going to have customers walk through, please please please keep it tidy. When I got upstairs, I poked my head into the sports bar room upstairs and was also not impressed. It's a good size room with a bar, but the smoking was too much for me.

Sorry for the not-so-good review, but I'll take my business back to Arlington and DC. It just suits me better.

Not bad but not great either.......

The pizza here is pretty damn good most of the time. I guess I would call this a hit or miss place. Whenever I have gone here and had dinner the pizza and service have been excellent and deserving of four stars. Also, they have pitchers of beer and outside dining which is a big plus.

The upstairs bar area is awesome. They have many pictures of popular athletes and memorabilia. I will say that the bar area is absolutely great as well. Here is my big disappointment with this place, the last time I went I tried the lunch buffet. Terrible, absolutely terrible pizza was awful and stiff. I think it had been sitting under those heat lamps too long.

Anyway, if you want decent pizza don't go for their buffet. Spend the extra buck or two and order a whole pizza off the dinner menu. This place is reasonably priced for it's location as well.

In the mood for pizza in old town? Try this place out but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there.

It is what it is. Stop asking it to be something that it's not.

If you don't like deep-dish pizza, then GTFO!

I grew up on this place all the way back to when it was Armand's and what was then the Chicago Combo (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms with tomato sauce and mozzarella). Now it's known as the Power Play Deluxe and it's still the same 'za and even though I live in New York City, home of the most excellent 'za in all of the land, Bugsy's is still my #1 smash-hit off the chart classic.

You can't beat the buffet deals (you can fill up for $10 or less per person lunches or late nights), the wooden salad bowls, the roaring fireplace downstairs on a cold winter night, the crowd cheering for the Caps upstairs in the Penalty Box, just don't order thin crust and have a beer or four with your deep dish pizza, please!

This place was horrendous.  My party of 4 arrived around 5:00--clearly before peak time, as only a few other tables were occupied.  We sat down.  And waited.  Finally our waiter meandered our way, and took our drink and appetizer order.  This was to set a precedent for the whole meal--the only time he stopped by were to take our order and deliver the meal.  We never got a refill on our water, and we actually had to wave him down to deliver the pizza--we sat there for 5 minutes watching it cool down on the counter where the cook had placed it.  To make this all worse, the two waiters on duty and the manager were clearly lounging around in the back together.  I had the distinct impression that our being there was a tremendous inconvenience for them.

In the end, we shouldn't have bothered getting our meal.  The food was disgusting.  The pizza was caked in gooey, bland cheese.  It completely submerged the toppings in a revolting layer of stringy nastiness.  The appetizers were extremely greasy, though I will say that the onion rings were the highlight of the meal.

Don't waste your time with Bugsy's unless you have a thing for lazy, rude and inattentive service, along with mediocre to disgusting food.

Given my tendency to try new and interesting places, this place always intrigued me. I will however, not be going back.

The pizza was less than mediocre - tasteless and cold. The cheese was rubbery and the sauce was bland.

The service was slow despite the lack of people. The salad bar was ehhh - frozen cucumbers? Really? And the selection lacking for a restaurant who seems to pride itself on a lunch buffet.

    Definitely not going back.

This is a decent enough neighborhood pizza place.  Definitely a step up from your Pizza Hut or other pizza chain.

The restaurant is not huge, but there's enough seating that we didn't have to wait very long for a table at dinner time.  The atmosphere was lively but not noisy (except for a couple screaming children here and there).

The pizza itself was nothing fantastic (I've certainly had much better pizza), but I didn't regret eating there.  We also had a side salad and it was very fresh, and the portions are definitely more than adequate.

A previous reviewer mentioned that they don't split checks, but I was there with a party of four, and they didn't even hesitate to split our check four ways.  Maybe it was just the other server that didn't want to do it...

In any case, the service was good, except a little hard to track down to get refills of water (and the check, for that matter).

Not a bad compromise place if everyone can't agree on a particular type of food, or you just want a casual and lively pizza meal.

I was really excited when my wife mentioned a sports bar in the Old Town to watch College football.  Unfortunately it failed to live up to a few of my basic requirements for a bar of this type iin my mind. For example, you'd think a sports bar would be able to produce a decent hamburger, onion rings, and hot wings right?  Not in this case....   The burger was almost the consistency of a hockey puck, the fries literally burned and the wings not even cooked.  When I told the waitress we wouldn't be able to eat the fries and wings (yes, I managed to masticate the burger to a point of swallowing because i was starving), she gave me an expression that said "you really want me to take those back?".  Yes sweetheart, the food has to be edible for us to pay for it.

I also had an issue with the size and quality of the TV sets in this place.  Yes there are quite a few of them, I will give them that, but they are low quality tube sets that have colors bleeding that look about to blow.  If you are a sports bar, and the basis of your business is watching a game on a TV - get some LCD's/Plasma's of size that folks can see.  I believe your patrons would opt for  4 or 5 games being watched on 10 nice big tvs versus, 15 different games on 30 small tvs.

With all the options for sports watching in the DC area, this place needs to reinvent themselves before they see their patrons go elsewhere.  Especially if its such a pain to find parking to get here in the first place.

Being a huge Caps fan, I've heard of Bugsy's from my hockey circle of friends for quite some time, but never had the chance or really the motivation to go to Old Town and check it out.

Then, by fate, I was in Old Town for a weekend for a wedding that  I was in and on Saturday the Groomsmen were doing the whole "hang out and get blitzed before the wedding" thing.    For lunch we decided to hit up Bugsy's and I was looking forward to it as it's a mecca of sorts for local hockey fans.

We sat upstairs at the bar and I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, along with an order of wings ($.40 cent wings? i'm all over it).   In the interim I helped myself to a Blue Moon which was on tap, and quite satisfying.   The bartender working was quick, friendly, and on top of the ball.   Whenever my beer got near the bottom he was there, like the Robin Hood of Ales, ready to give to the poor and thirsty.

My burger and the wings came out not too long after I ordered, so the wait time was good even though the bar was slightly congested, it wasn't packed, but enough to where I was impressed with how long it took for me to get my food.

The burger was great, the patty was just right, the bun was solid, but what made this burger stand out is that the bacon, instead of being strips, was instead diced up.   So none of that "pull an entire piece of bacon off with the first bite" kind of business, no sir, with every bite you were guaranteed to get bacon.   Such a simple idea that paid off in great dividends.

The wings were also pretty damn good as well, and I knew then that I had to come back to Bugsy's.   What re-enforced the need to come back was that the groom got their pizza buffet, which is available mid day on the weekends for $6.95.    The slices he was chowing down looked to be pretty tasty...

....and by pretty tasty, I mean that the next day, Sunday, I convinced my girlfriend to go to Bugsy's with me for their pizza buffet.   This time, my second trip in the weekend, my girlfriend and I sat down at one of the tables upstairs at game day, and the place didn't have many places available to sit.

That said, we still got seated pretty fast and we both ordered the buffet, and my god was it glorious.   Bugsy's had a deep dish pizza that was perfect, from the dough to the meats to the right blend and amount of cheese.   As I type this, my mouth is watering and I'm thinking that maybe I put off writing this review because I didn't want to torture myself by thinking so much about their delicious slices of heaven.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking that's it.

Caps season is about to start up, and my girlfriend and I have decided that Bugsy's will be our second home during Caps away games.

Man!  I hadn't been to Bugsy's in ages and then a friend and I realized this fact and decided that an evening of pizza and beer was in order.  (Please note that this review is based on the upstairs bar.)

The bar at Bugsy's is almost like Cheers to me - lots of regulars sitting around, talking to the bartenders, servers who know everyone.  We know a couple of the girls who work there and they were so excited to see us after a long absence.  I gotta tell ya, the people who work here are so darn friendly.  I've seen them deal with a lot of crappy personalities over the years (and a lot of tourists) and they always do it with grace.

As a Chicago gal looking for a good slice of pie, I find Bugsy's to be really darned good pizza.  Their deep dish is about as close as I'll get to the real thing and it's loaded with cheese and toppings.  I love the tomato sauce on their pizza - it's nice and sweet and flavorful.  The thin crust is great, especially if you try the "olympic" (greek flavors on a pizza).

As far as their appetizers go, I've had most of them and they're top quality.  The nachos are ok, but it's weirid that they put bruschetta topping on them instead of salsa - kind of a different flavor.  I usually go for the spinach and artichoke dip.  This stuff has GOT to have crack in it.  Seriously, that's the only excuse I can think of for eating a whole order by myself.  Their wings are pretty killer as are the quesadillas.

Bugsy's has a lot of other items on their menu too.  All the stuff that comes out of their kitchen looks yummy, but I'll admit I've only ever had appetizers and pizza.  This is not a fancy place by any means, it's typical bar food.  But I think it's really well made bar food and the atmosphere makes it even better.  Oh and how could I forget the awesome beer prices and great happy hour specials!!!

If you're looking for a pizza and beer night and you happen to be in Old Town, give Bugsy's a try.  I think you'll be glad you did.

P.S.  If you like Hockey, get the heck over to Bugsy's!  It's the only official Hockey bar in DC and it's owned by a former Washington Capitals player.  He takes pride in this business and can be found sitting at the bar regularly.  He'd be glad to talk body checks and Stanley Cup with ya too!

The all you can eat pizza and salad is a good lunch deal.  Only available during lunch time.  You gotta like Chicago style pizza, though.   The salad bar is good, with fresh veggies and a pretty good variety considering the low cost.

There's outdoor seating for those who want to people watch in Old Town.  It can get pretty crowded on the weekends and nice days, but it's the more affordable outdoor seating & eating option in the heart of Old Town.
