Bunz

I was so excited to try Bunz because of the great yelp reviews and good things I had heard from friends but my visit left me a little disappointed. I was expecting the best burger I had ever eaten and I was definitely let down. The burger itself was ok but a little bland and the chili cheese fries were nothing more than basic fries with canned chili and cheese sauce. I liked that the burgers were cooked to order and I will probably give them a second try but I definitely won't bring my little kiddos with me. Not only do they not have a high chair all of the inside seating it high top tables and counters. Sitting at a high top with a two year old in my lap was pretty unpleasant. I was too afraid she would lose her balance in one of the tall chairs so I couldn't let her sit by herself. I guess I had just assumed that a burger place would be kid friendly but sadly that wasn't the case.

I like that Bunz has a portobello mushroom "burger" (even though I'm not a vegetarian, I play one on TV sometimes), but their toppings weren't the greatest and the prices are a little high. Also, the place is super tiny, but all in all I'd probably go back.

Hmmmm.....ever feel like you're the only person in a conversation who doesn't absolutely love the same thing everyone else is gushing over? That's the gist of how I feel about my visit to Bunz and reading other reviews on Yelp.

I really thought my lunch of a a double cheese burger and onion rings was only okay. I walked in with an open mind, wide-eyed excitement and that specific craving of a tasty burger. The location is cute and cozy (and, yeah,a bit small). The decor was funky and the staff was hardworking and welcoming.

While tempted by some of the specialty items, I decided to stick with the basics. Made to order and served hot and fresh. My order came up relatively fast considering they were dealing with a lunch slam. All good things.

But the Bunz burger itself? Kind of routine and disappointing. And the price was on the slightly higher end. The combined flavors didn't particularly wow me and the taste was a bit nondescript. In short, tot terrible but nothing special. I much preferred the comparably priced burger at Bluegrass Burger.

However, given all of the stellar review written by the Yelpers that I know and love, I'm tempted to give it another try and mix up my order. After all, any independent Highlands business where they are working that hard behind the counter deserves a second shot...
