Would have been rated lower but the staff was very attentive during a stressful situation. Â So for that reason they receive an extra star. Food was fine, drinks were good. Â The actual service was sub par. Â The location is terrible. Â Who wants to party in a mall? If it was a standalone spot with a nice patio, it would be a winner. Nowhere near as cool as the Cabo or Vegas locations.
Review Source:Hardly ever in Hollywood on an Monday night, but was here to meet up for a drink with some friends that were passing thru town. Â Despite the H&H Center usually being a swarm pot for tourist and visitors; this Cantina wasnt as busy. Â Which for us, was the perfect setting. Â Just enough for it not to be super dead but wasnt busy enough that there werent any seats.
Was able to get good seating at the bar. Bartender was attentative and constantly checked on us. Â Pretty sure that was due to the fact that they werent extremely busy, but as I said, it was perfect for us being that we were just meeting up there for a drink or two and some Apps. Â
The menu is not overpriced and has all your typical Mexican Cantina items. Â Beer on tap selection I woud label as "limited" but they do offer a decent selection of specialty cocktails with full bar.
Would recommend this place if your in the area and need a quick stop for a drink or appetizer.
I was definitely not satisfied with this and even embarrassed that I took my out of town guests here. I don't often waste time on bad reviews but I think this place really deserved one.
First off the hostess wasn't kind or proud to work there, seemed like she was annoyed and smiling wasn't mandatory. Chips and Salsa were over salty, and the salsa was a clump like it had been pre scooped and refrigerated hard before serving. 2 of my guests were forgotten about their waters. The cocktails we ordered were substandard, I guess we should have stuck to the run of the mill margarita's.
My enchiladas were warm not hot, and the cheese hardened tough. I tried the fries and even those were overcooked. Even the food servers seemed like they were forced to work there with no restaurant server etiquette. Also the music was too loud and we couldn't converse. We told them to lower and they did, but turned back up again. Many of the guests were fanning themselves because it was too hot inside.
Bottom line I was disappointed in the overall experience and had to say something...
Disappointing
I went to the original Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas a few years ago. Â I expected the same quality and service, and didn't get it. Â Ordered a Cabo Wabo Margarita, and it was just a run of the mill margarita. Â Perhaps Sammy Hagar needs to go on undercover boss and visit the Hollywood location. Â
Bottom line, tourist trap
I just found out that Cabo Wabo opened at Hollywood and Highland. I've had such great times at the original location in Cabo, and of course the Vegas Cabo Wabo rocks, so I thought I'd head over at lunch time and check it out. Traffic on Highland was horrible - took me 15 minutes just to get to the parking garage from the freeway exit - and I was riding my motorcycle! Â I took the elevator to the 4th floor, and there it was! At 11:30 AM there were only a few people, and I sat at the bar. They have a few lunch specials - for $7.95 you can get two tacos or two enchiladas with rice and beans. There were a few other items on the lunch special menu but I opted for the enchiladas (taking the bartender's suggestion). You can get them with red sauce, green sauce, or mole. I opted for red. Since I was riding, I resisted the temptation to have a beer and went with ice tea. They serve it in a mason jar, and the chips came out in a cut-off paper bag. Nice touch! The red salsa was pretty bland, but the green was tasty.
While I waited for the food, I checked out the restaurant. Lots of photos of Sammy, and a few of his guitars on the wall. I asked about merchandise, and the bartender told me they had shirts and hats in the back, and eventually they'll create a merchandise area.
When the food came out, I was pleasantly surprised, after reading so-so reviews. The enchiladas were tasty, and the rice was great! The black beans were good but I could have done without the melted cheese on top.
I ate everything, paid my bill (less than $15 including generous tip) and got my parking validated. When I was leaving I decided to skip the $2 parking fee and just drive my motorcycle over the curb and around the arm at the exit. Piece of cake! Traffic going up Highland was light, and I was home in ten minutes. I'll be back with the family so I can enjoy a waborita!
I have mixed feelings about my recent visit to Cabo Wabo Cantina. Â I've had many good drinks and meals at the Cabo in Vegas and hoped to recreate that experience at the Hollywood & Highland location.
Our server was really good. Â The food was okay and the Wabo Rita was really good.
What was missing was any kind of vibe / atmosphere. Â I'm not sure why but it feels like its lacking any kind of cool vibe that Sammys joint in Vegas has.
I went around 5pm - I'll give it another shot maybe later in the evening but it seems like its lacking the rock n roll vibe and coolness of the Vegas location.
I hope they get the rock n roll vibe going and its a success. Â I'd hate to see it closed by the end of the year - which was the only vibe I got when I was in there a few days ago :-(
I didn't actually eat here but I intended to until I looked at the menu. Â The menu is waaaaaay overpriced! Â I did use the restroom though. Â The restrooms smelled good but every stall was out of toilet paper. Â I had to use the Wet Ones that I had in my purse. Â This place is located near the Loews hotel so it is very pricey for Mexican food.
Review Source:The food was ok, but definitely not worth the price for the small portions. I tried stuffing myself so as not to waste my overpriced meal, but I couldn't eat the rest. It's not pleasant to get a big chunk of fat in your chicken taco. Won't waste my money here again. I hate to admit it, but Baha Fresh tastes better and is a fraction of the price.
On the plus side, the host, server, and busboy were all very nice and attentive. So, A+ for the service. It's a shame the food isn't that good.
Bordering (haha get-it) on 4 Â stars. Lets just say a solid 3.5. Actually as far as the Hollywood and Highland mall complex goes Cabo-Wabo is probably one of the best places there. It's a bit pricy (especially the cocktails/drinks), but the food is pretty solid.
It's a fun place to come with friends, except when there's live music - I freaking hate live music nights. If I wanted to go see a band I would specifically go see them - - - not be subjected to it when I just want a solid pitcher of Ritas. Anyways, whenever I have been here service has always been pretty good.
I need to keep timing it right with H.H. but once I do I'm sure I'll love this place a little bit more!
This place is a 90s throwback. And it's pricey for regular mexican food. I had an overly greasy quesadilla that ended up costing around $15.
There was no one in here when we went.
The staff was pleasant and attentive.
The music was 90s rock as this is Sammy Hagar's restaurant.
I'll go back when it gets lunch specials.
I think they do have a good $2.50 happy hour that starts around 4pm/5pm.
Parking in Hollywood and Highland, get validated from the restaurant.
The restaurant is located behind the Grill, where the BoHo used to be.
Cabo Wabo, not fabbo. This is commercialized Mexican food for Americans. But for a Happy Hour and OK sports bar it might get the job done, but it sure doesn't excel any standards. And I think with their Caesar Salad, it's not quite Mexican anymore. On the plus side, attractive help: Waitresses here have beautiful hair. Tip them well on that basis alone. #girlpower
Review Source:Delicious margarita! $5 at happy hour. It's not the cheapest happy hour, but Hollywood and highland is lovely so the atmosphere here is superb. Also, chips and super yummy green and red salsa. AND...Happy hour starts early and ends late! I was there at 3pm, it was happy hour. Then I was there another night at 10pm, it was happy hour!!! LOL
Review Source:After a long morning in Hollywood, we were starving! And needed a beer and some playoff game action. Came upstairs and saw this place, very cute, feels like you're in tourist mexico.
Very nice waitresses, quick orders, ice cold water and yummy drinks!
I'd say 3 out of 4 of our party was very pleased.
I order the peach sangria and it was amazing. The chicken mole was just like home made. Would def come here again.
Plus we had the tv right in front of us!
After a long day of shopping at Hollywood & Highland Center, the perfect way to let your VISA card cool down a bit is to decompress & unwind with a well-deserved HAPPY HOUR :D
$5 Margaritas are definitely the way to start things off. Â To calm the grumble & rumble from the stomach running on E, I would highly recommend the chips & fresh guac, taquitos, and the asada tacos.
Polish off your pit stop with a final fill up of the Can't Drive 55 and you're good to go to resume pushing the magnetic strip on your credit card to its absolute limits :)
We came into Cabo Wabo for a late dinner and am glad we did. Â Only open for a few weeks, Cabo had no wait for the bar on a Saturday. Â Tucked away in the Hollywood/highland center, Cabo offers good Mexican food and strong drinks for a reasonable price.
We sat down at the only open bar seats and were immediately greeted by Jared. A knowledgable bartender, Jared quickly brought over some chips and salsa and recommended two of Cabo's signature cocktails, the Wabojito and Strawberry Surf. Â I ended up having both throughout the night and each were great and made with fresh ingredients.
We got the chicken quesadilla appetizer and the veggie tacos. Â The quesadilla was big enough for an entree and served with fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, and a side of sour cream. Â The outside had a nice crunch. The veggie tacos were super tasty, well seasoned and served with beans and rice.
I will definitely come back to this place. Â The food and drinks were good and if all bartenders are like Jared, the service will be fast and the drinks great.
horrible.  food was tasteless.  it was like your aunt cooking with no salt cause of her high blood pressure.  awful.  i  tipped cause the waiter was nice. but we were ignored with dirty plates in front of us.  you have been warned.  taco bell is looking like gourmet food next to this horrible piece of fake mexican food.  you have been thoroughly warned.  save your money and  go to jack n box for real tacos.
tourist trap, Â this place wont last long, if you must have mexican food, i hate to give away one of my regular spots, but go to los compadre on sunset blvd, its a local stop,
only went to this place cause i was at the mall
sad to say location right in the mall is all this place has going for itself. My hunney ordered a beer it was warm...warm! eww that's got be the worse he had to ask for a glass with ice. I tried to order their Prickly Pear drink, no longer have it...um you guys just opened...okay how about a Peach Sangria?, sorry we're out. Okay how about a red Sangria? they have it! however it took 10 minutes before it was brought over to me.
Their chips are dusted with seasoning so they do taste good however the salsa lacks flavor.
Waaayy to many other joints around (and cheaper) too waste time here again.
love love love!! I love my drinks and the cant drive 55 is amazing!!!!! its really strong but tastes delicious. I am addicted to the Taquitos here i live near by and am always at the mall. I had them 3 times last week. Another amazing item the tacos. The asada tacos are amazing along with the chicken tacos. The place is super chill and has a fun and inviting atmosphere. So worth checking out :) (oh one more thing there are TVs everywhere if your like my man and want to do dinner but also catch the game haha)
Review Source:SUPER meh. Â The chips are great but the salsa they give you with them is completely flavorless. Â Literally zero flavor at all, I might as well be dipping my chips in chunky water. Â The main dishes are also pretty whatever; it seemed overpriced to me considering what you're getting.
Also, I've worked in restaurants for many years and it seemed to me the servers only showed up to take your order and then your money. Â I noticed several of them just standing around chatting and looking bored while tables were staring them down in a silent plea for attention (including us!) Â The bussers paid more attention to us than our server!
Overall, poor customer service and meh food.
I loved the made-to-order guacamole! The 3 combo fajita was enough to share with a pal and worth every penny! The waborita was sweeter than I am used to but still very tasty.
The drinks and some of the entrees were a little pricey but overall, I thought the food was decent and the margarita refreshing. I would come back and recommend it to others.
Im writing this review here at the restaurant. I'm sorry but this restaurant is not 4 1/2 star. The only reason I have it 3 star is because I love the tortilla chips.
I travel all over the country and some parts of the world for business so I am always eating out. This restaurant is a tourist trap. The carne asada I ordered is not good. El pollo loco burrito is a lot better than this.
I came here on Hollywood and Highland  for the Johnny Rockets but the place is under renovation. I just got back from travel and craving a burger. So we end up at Cabo Wabo. We thought we would try this new restaurant. Big mistake!
Mixed feelings.
I love Cabo Wabo, but I love the location in Mexico. I was super excited when I read that they were opening a location at Hollywood and Highland. For those of you who aren't familiar with Cabo Wabo, they have a club/bar in Cabo San Lucas which is one of the popular spots to go while vacationing there. It's owned by Sammy Hagar (Van Halen) and they do have their own line of Tequila...very good tequila might I add.
Now onto the bad news...the location in Hollywood took the place of Boho Restaurant next to the Grill. It was small and didn't impress me. In a neighborhood with so many cool bars, if you don't ddo something to stand out, don't bother! I was completely disappointed.
The food was so-so. The free chips were pretty good but the 2 salsa it came with were pretty bad. For our appetizer we had the taquito ($7.95, 3 pieces) which had quite a bit of cheese in it. Taquitos shouldn't have cheese in it and it didn't come with guacamole!!! Â Their fish tacos ($14.95, 3 tacos, rice and black beans) weren't bad but I felt the price was too high for the quality of food. My sister wasn't impressed with her margarita. $12 and it had tons of ice. Â
Our server was great but I was disappointed to hear that they didn't offer happy hour. There are tons of places in the area that offer great prices during happy hour so I have no reason to go back. There are better places with better food within walking distance so though I didn't hate Cabo Wabo Hollywood, I just don't feel the need to go back.
Sorry...2 stars is the best I can do.
Came here on a Thursday night with the boyfriend to try out the food. We've been waiting for this place to open up especially since we're just right across the street. The service was really great. Very attentive, nice, professional. The food is way over priced. The restaurant that was here before, boho, had higher quality food for way cheaper. On the pro side, the sauces for the wings and meatballs were yummy. On the con side, the crab nachos were lacking in the crab department. They should definitely invest in a happy hour, especially since many of their competitors offer it.
Review Source:Cabo Wabo Cantina has moved into the spot where BoHo used to be in the top floor of the Hollywood & Highland Center. I went to a private event here last night, and the waitress told me it was a "soft opening" so I'm cutting a them a little bit of slack because they didn't seem to be fully operational yet and the staff was a little green.
The food was surprisingly good, had some veggie tacos, guacamole, and their house salsas that they bring out for free with chips. They seemed to have a pretty decent tequila selection behind the bar, and I imagine they'll be pushing their margaritas. I can't say for sure since they didn't even have a menu to look at yet. Decor and atmosphere were cool, Sammy Hagar's face is plastered everywhere, but the lighting... harsh, bright, and painful to my tender pansy-ass eyes.
It's definitely not the cheapest place around (ex. $7 for all the draft beers) and they're going to have to do something unique to get the non-tourists to come here. I'd like to meet the genius who thought it was a good idea to open 2 blocks away from Cabo Cantina. Giving them 4 stars because it seems promising and I'll come back again when they're fully open to check it out and update my review.
