The place was a bit empty, and by a bit, I mean just us. The service was very friendly, albeit a bit slow considering there was no one else there.
The food was good, but nothing too extraordinary. I had a variety of tacos: fish, marlin, and adobada. The fish tacos were very good considering they were only a dollar. The others were just okay. I think I would rather head to Las Cuatras Milpas instead for a lunch in the area.

This place has awesome cheeseburgers, shrimp burritos, $5 lunch menu.  I recently had the fish tacos upon several recommendations and will definitely be ordering them more often too.  They are huge and only .99 cents each.  You can not beat it!  Also, shout out for the customer service especially Norma.

This is a place I go by all the time on my way to lunch somewhere else when I'm at work. Like usual, I was planning on going somewhere else. I been wanting to go to a good breakfast place(Snooze, Hash House, The Mission), but figured I'd go later this week. I was thinking about some sandwich places(Brown Bag, Marketplace Deli, etc.), or maybe La Fachada. Yes, deciding where to eat is a serious decision.

Anyhow, I decided to make a quick trip to the bathroom while my co-workers discusses the issue. When I came back, they asked if I wanted to go here. There was a soccer game on they wanted to catch, and they said this was a good place to go. I said sure.

Well, we got there, and there is a nice big TV, and they turned on the soccer match for us. It's a nice medium sized place, and we were the only ones there. It was only 11:30 though. About 3-4 other groups of people came in before we left. I think they do more business at night.

They have a pretty decent menu, not too expensive. Free chips and salsa, refills on that too. I ordered the adobada burrito and cheese quesadilla. I filled up pretty well on the chips and salsa while waiting. I got filled up pretty good, and I wanted to like this place a little more, but the food was just okay, if that. I might even only give them a 2 1/2 for the food. It just wasn't really that good. The prices aren't bad though. My total bill was only $9.00.

Fish tacos!!!! That's all I need to say. This place is where you go after a long day at work and just chill. The staff is cool, the drinks are cold and the food is hot. The service is impeccable!!!

I don't even know where to begin. I think this place recently changed ownership which would explain why the previous ratings were so much better. We went to this place solely to watch a band play, we had never before heard of Cabo Wabo Grill and would never have gone otherwise. We invited several other friends and family members to come show support for the band, all of who would be drinking and/or eating while there. We arrive early to a nearly empty place and are asked if we're there to watch the band to which we reply yes. Then we're told it will cost us $20 each but that some food is included, but it's a chicken breast, steak or tilapia filet. I wanted Mexican food at Cabo Wabo! I was excited to get some tacos and the like, a chicken breast wasn't what I had in mind. And to think that this place was essentially charging a cover was just ridiculous. It was pouring rain, there were like 3 people there, it was just odd.

We eventually ask if we can get something other than the 3 dishes offered and the waitress says "sure" and gives us some taco options. I'm texting our friends and family giving them a heads up about the $20 cover as most of them were only planning on drinking and not eating. Several people bowed out for that reason, so I eventually asked if people still had to pay if they didn't eat and we were told they could pay $10 without food. We start to notice other people being handed menus, which we never were, and we see things like oysters being brought out. Then we get our hands on a menu and see that what we just ordered was a few $2 tacos...so why did we have to pay $20 for that? Couldn't we pay $10 then just order off the menu? So lame.

It got even better where drinks were concerned. Being a bit afraid of what a mixed drink might end up like at this place, I ask for wine at first. I get a perplexed look, and a reponse along the lines of "I think we have some red wine somewhere, I can go look." Nevermind, I say, then my husband asks if they have a full bar and we are told "yes", so I order a margarita. It's Cabo Wabo Grill, it has to be decent. WRONG! It tasted like margarita mix and sprite with zero alcohol. When I try to order a basic rum and coke next I'm told they only have beer. So WTH was my margarita made from?! And why did someone else say they had a full bar? I'm just baffled now. Fine, beer it is. You really can't go wrong there, except it makes me all bloated and full so I never like to drink much of it! If I weren't there for the band, I would've left before I even got my food.

The weirdest part of it all was that we were seated at a table and were going to be eating, but after we ordered our first drink they brought us a bill. We asked to start a tab and had to give a credit card but we kept having different waitresses wait on us and bring us a bill each time, and each time we had to tell them we had a tab. Is it really that strange of a concept? Our friend showed up and started her own tab, yet they put most of her drinks on ours and kept bringing her bills too. It was very Twilight Zone-ish. Oh, and add to that that the front door was open ALL night while it was pouring rain and a toasty 45 degrees outside. I froze my butt off the entire time as did everyone else sitting around us!

So, the food was eh, okay. Tacos were of the uber-small variety and the steak was decent but the shrimp (which I looked very forward to) were actually fried shrimp, not fresh as you would expect from a seafood-oriented place. The rice was good I guess. The only dessert they had was chocolate cake so I passed...some flan would have been nice but maybe it's for the best that they didn't have any. The only reason I didn't give just 1 star was because the people were mostly pretty nice. I don't think anyone knew what they were doing, but they were as polite as they could be in that situation. This place needs some major work and really needs to get rid of the cover charge/dinner included concept as a way of ripping off people there to watch bands.  All in all, we spent $95 with tip on 3 tiny tacos each and 3-4 beers a piece. Horrid. When a band is bringing you business you never would've had otherwise, I don't think the cover charge thing is such a good idea. Not in Barrio Logan at least.

Went there for lunch and took advantage of their $5 lunch specials.  The ceviche tostadas were awesome--just the right amount of lime juice, and the fish was very fresh.  The quesadilla portions were huge--a great deal for $5, and the perfect meat-to-cheese ratio.  The tortillas were obviously homemade and were delicious.  Would definitely recommend this place, especially for a cheap lunch!

Finally got to check out this place last night to sample their famed marlin tacos and ceviche tostadas (by famed, I mean those are the only things my friends order there).  Alas, they only had one remaining marlin taco, so we decided to share it and try out some other items.  Somehow, however, our order size nearly doubled, but given how delicious the feast on our table was, we didn't mind.  Here's the skinny:

Fish taco:  Baja style, only $1!  Not bad if you wanna go cheap.

All the other following items, by the way, were only $2-3 each!

Fish ceviche tostada:  Delish.  Be sure to pour some hot sauce in there.

Marlin taco:  Totally not what I was expecting, because somehow it tastes like bacon, but YUM!  This happens to be all my friends' favorite.

Shrimp taco:  Thank goodness we ordered this last minute because this ended up being my favorite.  Juicy, tender, flavorful, yum!  MY favorite.
***NOTE (after a few more visits): Unless you want them breaded and fried (which is so not the same), you MUST specify "shrimp gobernador", and preferably, the whole shrimp over chopped.  This is the grilled style that comes with melted cheese and onions/peppers.

I'm definitely a new fan of this place, and can't wait to go back.  The ambiance may be sports bar-ish, and there may be quite a few Navy folk sitting in there just to drink and watch the game...
... and you may find yourself like us group of Asian girls who secretly drive from afar just to hit up this hole in the wall and end up being the only ones at a table ordering food...
... but don't be fooled.  Best seafood tacos ever!
