Cakes & Ale

Beautiful space and beautiful menu. Came here on multiple recommendations and would come back, but I caught them on an off-night. Just had apps and cocktails, but service--at the BAR--varied between nonexistent and slow, and the kitchen being backed up made everything slower.

Food, when I got it, was delicious. But it's really annoying when a bartender (your only server) is polishing glasses and not looking up for DAYS when you're ready to order and/or wonder why you haven't gotten food for 20+ minutes.

The food is delicious at Cakes and Ale, the service, however, was not.
It took a long time to even be approached by a server when we sat down - a good 15 minutes before even water was brought. When we asked to have a taste of one of their carafe wines the server just brought the full carafe and left. So much for tasting.
We were never offered or served bread - they have a bakery in house.
Ordering a second carafe of wine came way after our entree course was served.
I do love the food here, though. Chicken liver terrine was great. Lamb cannelloni delicious. Both the quail and ribeye were fantastic.
Now about the service.....
