Beware, Chef D'Angelo has some major problems in the front of his house!! His maitre d has very sticky hands, so if you want to be seated right away on a busy night, make sure you put some cash into his hand and you'll find yourself at a table way before those other folks who have a reservation before you!!
Also, I was there the other night at 6:55 for a 7 pm reservation, and come 7:30, when I I still wasn't seated, I went to find out what was going on. Another woman yelled that she was there before me, she had a 7:30 reservation. (she had just gotten there). The hostess starts to seat her first, whereupon I asked the hostess if she seats people by the time of their reservation or by who yells the loudest. She then slammed the menus down and asked me if I wanted to have a fight!! Fortunately, when another hostess came up (who WASN'T blonde) she realized that I was there long before the other party and straightened things out.
As for the food, very overrated for the price. And a restaurant shouldn't run out of a special early in the evening either.

Best in Fort Lauderdale!
I have been to Casa D'Angelo many times. The food and service are always superb. The food is far superior to any that I have had in the finest restaurants in Italy! Try it...you will be very pleased!

The best Italian in Fort Lauderdale! While not much to look at from the outside, the ambiance inside is great. Service is excellent! Often over 20 specials and the servers remember every one. Food is terrific, great for a work or romantic dinner. Wine list very good as well.

This place is terrible. I wasted my hard earned money on a meal here and am writing this to hopefully prevent anybody from having a similar experience don't waste your money. The pasta is horrible, go to the Cheesecake Factory and you'll have a much better pasta. I eat out every day and have rarely felt compelled to put down a place, my experience tonight at this place has motivated me. When ordering a desert instead of giving me my desert that I paid for, they gave me leftovers from another mans desert. How disgusting.

It is absolutely appalling that this restaurant has four stars. Having dined everywhere from your local food truck to multiple 3 Michelin star restaurants and everywhere in-between I certainly know good food when I taste it.. and this was NOT good food. I dare say it was actually pretty bad food.

My eggplant appetizer was greasy and mushy and my Chilean sea bass smelled and tasted of ammonia.

There are two types of Italian restaurants in my opinion. The ones who put fish on special because it is fresh and they want to showcase it and the ones who put fish on special because it is old and they want to get rid of it. Casa deAngelo is the later.

After reading all these rave reviews, we were so looking forward to having a great meal. We started with the fried calamari & zucchini with marinara sauce, which was nothing special. The prosciutto with arugula and shaved reggiano was nice, as was the arugula salad with chopped tomatoes and lemon vinaigrette. However, our main courses were so sub-par, I can't believe that these choices are part of their standard menu. The men had the rigatoni with capers, olives and anchovies, which proved to be so ordinary. I've cooked Meditteranean dishes with capers and olives etc, which were so much tastier. Maybe it needed wine added to the sauce or an infused oil, and herbs like parsley or something, but the end result was a bland pasta, not much different than one makes at home with a jar of sauce. The women had the pasta vongole (clam) which tasted like plain spaghetti with clams on the side. When I asked the waiter if they had forgotten to put the sauce in the pasta, he graciously brought more to the table but after tasting it, I realized it was not the sauce that was omitted, it was the flavor! As with the mens dishes, this one too didn't have anything other than "clam sauce" which I suspect was clam juice and nothing else. Don't waste your money unless you are prepared to pay exorbitant prices for their "specials".

Found this place on Yelp. We are in town for the National Championship and have a large party of 12. They were VERY accommodating and friendly. We have spent the last two summers in Italy, so believe me when I say this is a truly authentic Italian restaurant! If I'm ever back in Ft lauderdale I will eat here again!

This place lives up to all of its reviews and does not disappoint. My only criticism was that not all of their pastas are made in house - only the gnocchi and larger pastas like lasagna and fettuccini are make in house, the others are all boxed. You have to try their home made desserts after dinner...definitely worth the splurge!

Fanciest restaurant I've ever been to in a run-down looking strip mall.

When an adorable older man greets me in an Italian accent, I know that I'm in for a treat :)

Casa D'angelo is beautiful inside and the atmosphere is fancy without being too pretentious. We barely sat down before they delivered us amazing bruschetta. Tops!
I also had the greatest homemade cappellini of my life here. The sauce (also homemade) was also something to write home about.

Service was impeccable and we left with clear eyes and full bellies (can't lose)! Excuse my Friday Night Lights reference. I'm currently watching Season 5 on dvd. But I digress...

I can see what all of the chatter is about. Make a reservation and come hungry!

Quite possibly the BEST Italian food I've ever eaten in a restaurant - and I've had my share around the world, including in Italy! Homemade pastas are off the hook. I had the Braised Short Rib over Fettucine. My table mates had the Osso Buco, the grilled veal chop, and the Fettucine Alfredo. I tried them all and every dish was fantastic. Service was excellent and the atmosphere warm, upscale casual. A must visit spot if you are ever in the Sixth Borough!

A disappointing experience. Waiter suggested a wine that was 19/glass. I had 2. Got the 38 dollar surprise when we got the bill. Pasta was Al Dente but not piping hot. Portions were small. Overall poor service. I don't often give negative reviews but this waiter was out to pad the bill. I'm sorry my host tipped him 16 percent. What a waste of $$.

FABULOUS! Wonderful service, the veal chop was HUGE, wine list is extensive and reasonable, I got to mix and match to make my perfect pasta dish (essentially shrimp fra diavola, shrimp with spicy marinara, it was perfection). Love the bread (cheesy pizza bread and bruschetta) served before dinner. The only thing I didn't like were the starter salads, I wished there was a bit more variety. But otherwise, LOVE!

Simple food done very very well. The fettuccine was definitely home made and delicious. The seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. This is all expected at the price you pay. But the service is amazing and friendly and the overall ambiance was very modern with a touch of old Italy. It's the perfect place for a special occasion, like your girlfriends birthday.

REVIEW UPDATE:

It has been 2 years (almost to the day!) since I first reviewed this restaurant. I think it needs a little updating. This is one of my Ft. Lauderdale staples. If I need a place for a special occasion, or a night where I just want to know for sure it will be amazing- this is my place.

CDA is in a shopping strip and hidden behind a wall of manicured plants with twinkle lights on them. There is some outside seating behind them as well. It is pretty big although you can't tell right away.

You check in with the hostess and are asked to wait at the bar. Note that the bar is quite small. It's not the kind of place to get to way ahead of time with the intention of drinking at the bar. Chances are it will be too crowded.

The seating is spread out through different rooms. There are about 5 to 6 separate dining area varying in size. I like the ones by the cellars or towards the back more. The front one is my least favorite because it gets all the traffic of the diners being taken to their seat. Lights are dimmed and everyone is usually dressed nicely.

I NEVER look at the menu. Basically, they have what must be no less (and at least) 15 specials every night. The specials go on and on. If summer, white or black truffles are in season you bet every other special will have it on it.

Service is wonderful. I have never had a bad experience here. Our usual favorite is the mushroom risotto with black truffle. It's also one of the items they always have on the menu. The sausage & meatball appetizer is another classic favorite of theirs.

Last night my husband and I split the fettuccine special. It was drizzled in light olive oil and truffle oil with lightly shaved parm. Because that was not special enough, they brought out their container with the truffles and shaved some more on it. Amazing. We also split the dover sole. Our friends had the spaghetti special which he replaced with pappardelle. It was also very good.

For appetizers we had the burrata and the artichoke special which was very good. My girlfriend wanted just some prosciutto and they brought her a huge plate of it. The table bread is a combination of bruschetta, foccacia, olives and parm. That's good enough on it's own!

I had ducked a star a couple of years ago because I did not like the dessert. (and that's a biggie with me) Well, their selection can still use some help but I have come to love their cannoli. I think it's the absolute best in Broward. I have not been able to find one better. Their tiramisu is no longer in a martini glass. It comes in a metal container and it's also very good. It's a place I have been to often so it's definitely tried and true!

We always bring our wine. Their corkage fee is $35.00 and they expertly serve and decant it for you tableside. You are never ever rushed and the staff is always eager to serve you. If there is something not on the menu or you want a different combination they will happily do it for you.

It's all about your experience and they always succeed making it a wonderful one!

Magnificioso!
Dined here twice while staying in Fort Lauderdale (since it was delicious!) Went on a Thursday night.. no need for reservations but the restaurant was busy with what appeared to be 'regulars'. Waiters came by to those who requent the place and were speaking fast Italiano which was fun to hear. The first part of the restaurant is very active and loud while the back area is more quiet. Started with complimenary fresh tomato and garlic brushetta. Husband had the featured fish (sea bass) while I enjoyed a half sized portion of mushroom risotto (perfect size for a small appetite). Shared a bottle of Jordan (red cab) and had fabulous service. Overall a pricey meal but worth it.. and we went back another time before leaving FL.

Outdoor seating is available which is nice since they've hidden the parking lot with greenery. Don't mind the old coin shop next door and random crazies walking around checking out the high end cars parked in front of the restaurant.

Anybody who gives this restaurant greater than 3 stars is goofy. Wine prices are the the most expensive I've seen, the food is average at best but extremely overpriced.
My wife had wheat pasta with a few jumbo shrimp that cost 40.00. Trust me, I've she had an orgasm over the meal I'd be happy but it was bland at best.
I was here 7 years ago and it will be another 7+ before I go back. Be forewarned.

I loved my last visit here. The ambiance was wonderful. The waiters were courteous. The focaccia ,cheese , olive plate they put on the table when you arrive is awesome. I loved how fresh those olives were. The cheese was tasty with a bite to it and of all the focaccia was delicious...We odered the penne arrabiata and the truffle and mushroom risotto. I have eaten arrabiata before but this is nothing like nay of them. It was sweet and tangy when you first put it in the mouth and had a kick at the end of the bite. Penne was al-dente. My wife loved her Risotto...It was creamy and delicious. They bring the truffles out and shave it on top for you.

Then to end it....we ordered the chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. The cake was warm and the gelato was delicious...You could taste the vanilla in it..

But, they didnt list the price on the risotto and it was $44...thats a lot....

Really good, really expensive.

4 people...one bottle of wine ($50 which was one of the cheaper ones), 2 glasses of white (friend didn't like the red the rest of us had, one appetizer on special ($18...not worth it), and 4 entries..bill got close to $300 with tip.

Very nice interior and almost 2 different restaurants...very loud and bustling in the first part, but then the back area is very quiet. We were seated in the back area (not sure how they seat, but ok). Plate of fresh bruschetta, foccacia, green olives, and chunks of romano cheese was placed on the table. This was great. The appetizer we got was a soft cheese wrapped in prosciutto..very good but not worth $18. For entrees we had 2 red snapper dishes (good, but not outstanding), I had a roast chicken (pretty good), and the 4th was a chicken milanese (probably the best on the table).

Service was outstanding.

I just felt the pretty good good did not warrant such a high price tag.

I can't believe that I have never written a review of my favorite restaurant in all of South Florida. If I could afford it, I would eat here every single week. We've been coming here so over 15 years and from the day they opened, this place has been consistently good from the service to the food. Here are my favorite things to order

Special Meatballs - I have no idea why they call them these are always one of the specials. I have never been here and not been able to order them. They are indeed special but don't worry they will always be on the specials menu. Order them. You won't be sorry.
Porcini Mushroom Risotto - This risotto is so good it will leave you speechless. Literally. I am not kidding. A friend went for her wedding anniversary. This happened to her.
Veal Chop - Incredibly large, expensive and delicious.
Fettucine with Roasted Veal - Yum
Penne Alla Vodka - You can actually taste the vodka which is the way its supposed to be done. Its not a mix of tomato and cream sauce.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And if you like wine you'll be in heaven. Ask the sommelier to help you try something new like an Amarone. Then sit back and just enjoy the feast!

For our first anniversary my husband wanted to take me somewhere new, usually we go to Chima or The Greek.

We made reservations and were seated right away, though it was clear our reservation was unnecessary. After ten minutes we decided it was time to go to a better restaurant. No one had even come over to offer us water, introduce themselves as out waiter, or even tell us what kind of fish the chef had for the menu. Finally, an embarrassed bus boy came over to us to offer water. At 15 minutes, the waiter came over, did not introduce himself, and asked us if we wanted something to drink... "wine, beer, pop, milk..." Wow, I have never been profiled at a restaurant, so it surprised me when he did that. I admit, my husband and I look young, but to throw it in our face that you do not feel we are old enough is absurd, clearly this may be why your restaurant was half empty on a Thursday night.

We weren't profiled by attire, it was our anniversary, we were dressed for the occasion.

Veal chop of the day........ need I say more?

Only giving it 4/5 stars because it is quite expensive. But the food is delicious, service is excellent, and the ambiance is upscale yet comfortable. A great place to celebrate a special occasion, but hard to be a regular at those prices.

This place gets two stars because the food was awful. But let me say this, I am from the east coast where there are a lot of really good Italian restaurants. So this place may not be that bad for people that are from the south or for locals.

But it wasn't all bad

The restaurant was very clean, and classy looking. The staff was amazing. The service was great. I just thought the food was awful. And all I got was chicken parm, while my girlfriend got the veal saltimboca.

Like I said, I come from a part of the country where it's famous for Italian food, So my opinion may mean nothing.

Service was A+ and in accordance with a upscale fine restaurant. My server was knowledgeable, experienced, accommodating and attentive. Service from all others was spot on.

Food quality is A+ as well. I had the grilled Branzino which was perfectly prepared and flavorful. Wine selection/offerings was one of the best in South Florida. I ordered the Burrata salad for my first course which was honestly the freshest, tastiest I've ever had.

The only negative was the abundance of smokers on the outside patio dining section - in time, I'm sure Florida will follow suit as most of the nation in outlawing.

Ideal for casual or romantic dining experiences. I will be back as I was close to giving up on any decent restaurants in Miami/Ft Lauderdale area.

Tuscany at it's finest. This place is very lively and has a great atmosphere, especially on the weekends. When we arrived, we were greeted by the Maitre D, Niño, who was very nice. While he prepared our table in the back room, we hung out in the bar area. I don't remember what I ordered, but everything from the service to the food was excellent here, although I still believe that the best Italian restaurant in Broward County is Cafe Bella Sera. I would definitely return to Casa D'angelo again.

Disappointing. First of all I asked the wine steward for a pinot-like Italian in a certain price points. He asked if I wanted a Chianti, I said yes if it meets the pinot-like requirement. He brought a full bodied wine that I was going to send back except for a guest saying they liked it.
The rest of the meal escapes me. except the gnocchi which I rarely order out, was un exceptional. Not great, not bad. But I don't get the high reviews. And neither did the other three people I was with. It was by the way early, so not full nor were the serving staff yet busy.

My friends and I just left this sensational restaurant contemporary ambience and 5 star service. The food was incredible good. Everything we had from the appetizer, salad, main dish, dessert and coffee their were streamy fresh and taste, everything presented by a very knowledgeable waiter Fredderico, he was super friendly, polite and warm. The owner is also the Chef, he stopped by to check on us and surprised us with complimentary desserts.
If you are looking for authentic italian and great service, you must eat there.

Hype is always a tough obstacle to overcome, and with enough built in hype for Casa D'angelo, in Fort Lauderdale the bar was raised pretty high. So with some trepidation I headed there Party of 2 on Monday evening to sample what many have told me is the "BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT" in South Florida. Being a person who eats out often, I found this hard to believe but thought I'd give it a shot.

Meeting a dinner companion this evening and we had a 7:30 Reservation but decided to have a few pre-dinner cocktails at this 7 seat bar located just behind the Host stand. Restaurant is handsomely appointed with high ceilings, lots of glass, blacks, whites, but very little room to move through the front of the restaurant to the more spacious back. Had asked per friends recommendation to be seated in the "wine room" but somewhere between I didn't want to sit down at 6:45 which they tried to push on me while having drinks, and making it to my allotted time at 7:30 my seat in the wine room was no longer available. Hmm. We were 1st two top on the outside wall of the room, which was fine, but Strike 1.

Quickly greeted by appeared to be the head chef or perhaps owner who immediately made a beeline for my date. Not sure if he was being friendly or the fact he she was attractive, but I didn't get that type of hello. Waiter appeared with complimentary bruchetta and something flat bread with onions. Bruchetta although tasty, was definitely plated and bread underneath soggy. Wine list was enormous heavy on Italian reds that was to be expected but I like to enjoy a little white wine first with appetizers followed by some Red with dinner. Unfortunately the price points on their wine were at least 10% to 15% or more higher than they should have been. Even after perusing this extensive list, It was tough to find any value in it although selections and vintages were exceptional. I selected a nice Red "Super Tuscan" Cum Laude $95.00 that should have been no more than $80.00 but so be it.

On to a split appetizer of their highly recommended GAMBERONI CON FAGIOLI ALL'UCCELLETTO Jumbo shrimp with cannelloni beans, garlic and fresh sage described by the waiter as sautéed. My interpretation of sautéed is a hot dish, but I did not get clarification up front and it was a luke warm to cold serving of the shrimp. (2) large shrimp $16.00. Tasty but nothing to get myself worked up about plus only two shrimp was really weak.

Specials were presented which were extensive. My Date ordered the house fish special of the day "Bronzini" a type of sea bass marachiatta. A light sauce tomatoes base with some clams, and white wine. The sauce was non descript and even though I asked several times if the Bronzini was off the bone, I kept being told it's a filet. Well The tail was left on, the filet was still in the skin and bone was still found in portions of the fish. Very fresh but again poorly displayed. This was served with a side of green beans, and sautéed zucchini.

I had the veal special of the day pizzaiola topped with tomatoes, onions, peppers and mushrooms. ($28.00) 3 small scaloppini pieces very tender but sauce had nothing going for it. Also the dish presented was luke warm certainly not piping hot as it should have been. Side of sautéed white baby potatoes with garlic and oil were very good. All and all good quality but nothing special and the luke warm serving of the veal again was highly disappointing.

An array of desert options were presented but we were a bit pressed for time at this point so we declined postre. All and all I don't get what all fuss is about. Once again it's about starting a trend of this is the best place to eat, elaborately high prices are charged and these people truly don't have a clue as to what good Italian food is or how it should be served. I am sorry I went with an open mind but this place completely disappointed me on many levels. the best part about it was my company for the evening.

If people want to make the claim to this being the best Italian restaurant in South Florida so be it. Too many are influenced by the hype over substance NOT ME. There are So many other dining options out there that blow this away that in no way shape or form is this a repeat. I'll take a pass on future invitations.

Stunning Italian food, really. Some of the best we've had in any city.

In some ways D'angelos is like a Roman roundabout; there are several disconnected themes that converge in harmony. Swanky decor, geriatric clientèle, an abundance of hustling staff, ridiculously great flavors, and a relaxed come-as-you-are attitude all work in perfect symmetry to deliver a rich and satisfying experience.

To start we split the Mozzarella di Bufala, their delicious take on a caprese, but served salad-sized with huge beefsteak tomatoes. For dinner Wifey had the Puttanesca Don Teo and I had the homemade linguini with truffle oil (a special). The plating was great and the portions were good as well.

Even though they were slammed our waiter never hustled us, a practice common in Europe but rare in America, and probably even more rare in touristy Ft. Lauderdale. He gave us time to settle our dinner before asking about dessert (molten chocolate cake that killed, BTW). Drinks, dinner and dessert - it was all just perfect, really.

TOP NOTCH! This place has great food (authentic Italian food, just like Roma), great service, great vino and it is just a beautiful classic, modern and clean decor. The menu changes from time to time seasonally and with chef's selections. This place is pricey though, so save for a nice occassion, like mom's bday or getting your significant other to forgive you for bad behavior ;)
Parking is plentiful and convenient. Outside seating is also quite nice.

Framing: My partner and I went here on vacation. We actually chose it because it was listed on http://opentable.com as less expensive than many of the restaurants in Ft Lauderdale but it was known to have good food. Note to yelpers: DO NOT TRUST OPENTABLE RATINGS AND COST ESTIMATES. I have found them to almost be universally wrong. Our meal, including a nice bottle of Barolo wine, appetizers, entrees, one side, and desert for 2 was about $250 without a tip. Excluding the wine, it would have been $150.

Food: Good food. Not great. I was perhaps overly excited and had expectations that were above reasonable. I love Italian food and the smells that greeted me when I entered blew me away. I expected Heavan and instead got just darn good food - a step or two below expectations. I had a seafood linguini special and my better half had a steak with porcini mushrooms and onions. The calamri was better than I have had in years but my SOs's salad was odd. DESERT WAS SPECTACULAR!!!! I had the lightest pastry with apples and cinnamon icecream while my friend had a chocolate lava cake with house made vanilla icecream.

Service: SUPERB. Attentive, friendly, and educated. Cant believe the server knew all of the specials, the menu, and most of the wine list. Ladies (and perhaps gay men) - you will like the server staff. Lots of hunky tall, dark, men's men. Including one of the most intensely muscular waiters I have ever seen. Almost surreal. Most importantly, the servers were good at getting us what we wanted and making us feel comfortable.

Decor: Who cares? Nothing special, but I will note that it was nice to be in a restaurant that was not so loud you could not have a good conversation.

Overall, I would come back here if ever in Ft. Lauderdale and would recommend it to others. I would try not to get the expensive bottle of wine and would perhaps cut off an appetizer or share a desert. In this economy, $250 is a bit much for two people. $305 with tip even worse!

Don't even THINK about coming here for a weekend dinner without reservations, I visited on a Saturday & it was insanely, solidly crowded from 7:30 PM until we left at almost 10:00. Once we got seated we were fairly comfortable, but navigating the aisles to & from our seats was surprisingly treacherous, having to dodge aggressive waiters & mostly elderly patrons who seem to be milling about in a daze as they waited to be seated.

All that being said, very few patrons seemed to be bothered by the waits & chaotic atmosphere, and the food was pretty darn good, among the best that I've tried in the Lauderdale area. We dined with a pair of restaurant "regulars", so we had great service all around. It's a worthwhile dining destination as long as you plan ahead & reserve a table.

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Broward county. The breaded veal chop is large, tender and tastee. I order it with the bed of lettuce on the side. The only disappointing item on the menu I've had is a veal scallopiene special that left my mouth watering for the veal chop.

This restaurant gets very crowded on the weekends, so you'll need reservations. The crowd includes many of the retired snow birds, but you'll also find some of the Broward yuppies. It's located in a strip mall, so parking is easy to find. There's not much of a bar and a place to wait so your party should plan to arrive at the same time.

Of course this is on the repeat list for the veal chop.
