Salmon tartar was undercooked and really fishy tasting. Needed more time to marinate and cook. We got the Thursday special that included one piece of shrimp and the rest we just left alone cause again it was way too fishy tasting. The service was fine and so was the decor. Will not be going back.
Review Source:Delicious food and great atmosphere.
Another couple dined with us  here last night and each dish was amazing especially the beef short ribs I had and the half roasted chicken.
Joseph, the waiter, was attentive but not intrusive and was passionate about the food and wine. We got the cool back patio exclusive table and the ambiance (and company we were with) made for a special night.
The other couple we were with is by far the two pickiest eaters I know and we all devoured every single dish. None of us are huge portion eaters so it was funny to see us all clear our plates.
A huge plus is it is at the end of my street so if you want a few extra glasses of wine, you can walk home. My only piece of constructive criticism is there is no Cab wine choice. Â I realize the need for the French atmosphere, but my beef was cooked in a red wine sauce and the cab would have been the icing on the cake to pair with it. I had another dry red, but I wanted a more oakey/earthy cab to pair with it.
We will definitely be back!
I am on the fence with this place.
The first time I went was for dinner. Â I had the burger and it was just ok. Not ridiculously good or anything. Â Salmon tartare was way too fishy, I don't even think we finished it. The chocolate cake was excellent, however.
The next time I went for brunch. Â Loved that there was absolutely no wait on a Sunday, so that's a plus. Â Plenty of street parking. Coffee was smooth.
I was excited to try their florentine benedict, but was confused by their version. Â I don't know if it was a kitchen mistake or something, but the english muffin was flavored, like a cinnamon flavor or something. Â It did NOT go well with the benedict. I had my boyfriend take a bite of just the english muffin in case I was going crazy, and he said it was a sweet muffin. Â If that's normal, then the dish was awful. If it was a mistake, then I'd be willing to try it again.
The water they serve has a flavor, like cucumber water or something, very refreshing.
I do want to come back and try the sunday bbq to give it another chance, but I'm not dying to go back.
Loved the simple but classy decor (think pendant lightbulbs, small pillows on the bench seating, picture windows with natural light,a wine list on a large chalk board and small Parisian touches in a transitional-style space) the non-pretentious service and, prices and clientele (people were dressed nicely enough but not to impress) the warm, flavorful bread and my entree (a rigatoni with Italian sausage). The wine list is comprehensive without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere is relaxing. This is a lovely asset to the neighborhood with definite curb appeal and friendly spaces both inside and out. It reminds me of a small cafe one might stumble upon while walking down a quiet street abroad. If I were a local, I'd be back!
Why the 4 given all the praise above? The Meyer Lemon Creme Brûlée was just okay (a tad on the watery side and not much of a lemon flavor).
I've liked this restaurant for a long time, but tonight I had their Bouillabaisse and it was amazing. A nice mix of shellfish along with a well grilled piece of Salmon wet on top of a base of lobster stock which was so much better than the typical watery stock with overlooked bits of fish. For desert we shared a piece of Tarte Tatin--buttery carmelized apples with a very thin piece of filo dough--as good or even better than any I've had in France. Bouillabaisse is the special on Wednesday nights.
Review Source:I have been to this restaurant a dozen times and really gave it the ole college try. I have tried to like it many many times because sometimes the food is good and it's a casual, local spot with good prices. Sounds perfect, right? Â But no, this place is bad on many levels.
Appetizers: they are all pretty good. Can't really mess up a charcuterie plate or olives and almonds. Salmon tartar is nice.Calamari is always a good time.
Salads: again, all of them are pretty good.
Entrees: the hangar steak is tough. The sauces are ok but I am not a fan of drowning meat in sauces to cover up mediocre quality meat.
The roasted chicken: I LOVE roasted chicken and it is the EASIEST thing to make. How can you ruin roasted chicken? By throwing a pound of salt on it. Completely inedible. I have ordered this chicken on 3 different occasions and each time I ordered it, I specified NO salt and had to send it back because they forgot. I thought if I peeled off the skin, it would be edible but no, each and every time I have ordered this chicken, it was not edible, despite my specifically ordering it with no salt.
They used to have a side dish of sliced brussel sprouts but they are way way way too salty. Again, it's as if they spilled the entire salt shaker on to the food.
Now to be clear, I like salt. I prefer savory to sweet. But this place is crazy with the salt.
The reason why this place gets 1 star? The service is terrible, the staff  is rude and the little french man owner? Stereotypical Napolean complex. He is exceptionally obnoxious. He actually argued with me over why I should have liked the food. I talked to one of the waiters and he even said that the owner is a jerk and he is working only there to pay the bills. We all work in order to pay the bills but that ambivalence infuses the restaurant with mediocrity. The staff doesn't care to get  orders right (I have sent back food many times) and since they don't write down your order when they take it, they keep getting it wrong.
The problem is that they just don't care.
So again, I have tried my best to like this place. I have gone on weekends and weekdays. I have ordered just appetizers and wine. I have had full on dinners. I have gone with one person, I have taken a large group there. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it sucks so much it is shocking. So au revoir, Chic. May you one day get your act together.
Sorry Chic, but I have to give you 3 stars.
We order take out from here all the time. The food is great, the place is great. But for some reason, they always get something wrong on the special instructions.
I'm picky about food. I like things crunchy and crispy. To make sure when I order take out that it's crunchy and crispy, I always ask for 'sauce on the side' or 'dressing on the side'. I know it's a bit of a pain the ass. But that way, by the time I pick it up or it's delivered, I know my order hasn't been soaking in a sauce, turning it into a big, soggy mess.
The Pan Roasted Pork Chop: UH-mazing. No really. Love the pork chop. It's served with a thyme jus, which would be fine if I were eating it there. But we always get it take out. If it's been sitting in the sauce for 1/2 hour or an hour? The delicious, pan roasted pork chop is ruined. Sitting in a very juicy sauce, while steaming inside a plastic take out container = mushy pork chop. The wonderful roasted texture is destroyed.
To try and prevent this tragedy, I order it 'no sauce on pork chop, pork chop cooked extra crispy'. For some reason this causes confusion and I always end up with the pork chop swimming in sauce. Why is this so hard? Why can't they just not put the sauce on it?
Finally, I decided to go pick it up myself. That way, if the order was wrong, they could fix it. When I checked the order, bit shocker: it had sauce on it. I asked them to re-grill it, without sauce.
It's such a amazing pork chop, I don't want to stop ordering it. So I've found what I think is a good solution to the problem. Once I get it home, I take it out of the container and pan roast it myself. I sear it on both sides for a few minutes until it's crispy. Have to say, it's pretty darn good. It just sucks that they can't do it the way I want it and save me the hassle of cooking.
The garlic mashed potatoes are delicious. My boyfriend loves the Beef Short Ribs Bourguignon. He always says it good. Although they have screwed up before and forgot to add the vegetables. He also loves the squash and pan roasted brussel sprouts (a seasonal dish, which I think is off the menu right now).
I feel bad only giving them 3 stars. We keep going back, so obviously we love it. Maybe the only real solution is no more take out and having dinner there?
Chic wine bar is a small, cozy restaurant hidden away on Pico. It's quite the oasis after a long commute. Â The wine list is written chalk on a large wall and the selections never disappoint. Â Now onto the food! Â If you want melt in your mouth beef bourguignon, this is your place. Â Pair that with a glass of red wine and you are in heaven.
Review Source:This place really did blow me away. Â Salads: my wife had the kale salad that had an amazing mint dressing, I had a delicious shaved brussels sprout salad with pomegranate seeds. Â I had the branzino fish, wife had the pork special that night. Â All the dishes were home runs. Â Also, the space is cozy and inviting-- extra points for the vintage NYC menus all over the bathroom walls. Â Creatively and tastefully designed with exquisite food. Â Oh yea-- the wine selection is more than ample, too! Â Definitely check this place out!!!
Review Source:Not our first time there, this little wine bar is becoming our favorite neighborhood place. Â My wife and I have never had a bad meal there and the staff are personable and helpful. Â Last night we stopped in for a late meal with wine - our weeknight celebration of our anniversary - and as usual when choosing Chic felt like we'd made the right decision!
Review Source:After looking up the menu online and seeing "Goat Cheese Brioche French Toast," I had to try this place. My mom and I went for brunch on Sunday at about noon. She ordered the French toast, and I got the Ricotta Apple Pancakes. Both dishes were excellent, although my mom thought hers seemed a bit burnt, but still very tasty. Other aspects of the restaurant, however, were pretty lacking. The service was very inattentive - no one checked on us after we got our food, and I had to flag someone down to get our waters and iced teas refilled. My mom noted that the ambiance didn't really seem like a "wine bar," but maybe that was because it was pretty early in the day. And the noise level was ridiculous. There were four other groups of people sitting indoors, and my mom and I had to lean across our tiny table and shout to hear each other. And I must note that the tables full of people drinking mimosas seemingly got refills every five minutes, while we were basically ignored.
Prices were quite reasonable for the slightly upscale level of the cuisine.
Parking was pretty easy. We found a spot in the shade on a residential street half a block away.
Great looking place inside and out.  Great service.  So many delicious looking things on the menu that my husband and I took forever to decide, but we went there in search of a breakfast sandwich so we finally stuck to our guns and got that.  Absolutely perfect bacon, egg, gruyere and avocado on great bread!  $2.50 mimosas for brunch is definitely something to cheer about too.  The dressing on my side salad was delicious too...not that I really would have cared  because I wasn't in a salady mood, but I ended up eating it all. Â
They have outdoor seating front and back, which I love. Â Nothing beats a good meal out in the sunshine on a glorious day. Â I shall return for Croque Monsieur very soon. Â
There is an egg white scramble on the menu, so I don't know what the review complaining about that is all about...maybe they added it due to popular demand.
I'm conflicted about this shit, I'm not going to lie. So let's make what they call in management, a "praise sandwich".
So, Chic - nice to see a fancy wine bar in an unfancy hood like this. We need a bit of quality round these parts, and your wines are nice, your sign is shiny, your shit's clean - good job.
But....
You're not Gordon fucking Ramsey over here, so put the attitude back in the tin. I'm just saying. When a new customer asks for an egg white scramble for brunch, don't say, "we don't do egg whites... the chef refuses to do that."
Wha?
"I've asked the chef before, he won't do it."
That there's the sound of a restaurant drowning in its own wank. Seriously. Someone needs to tell Chef MuppetBoy that he might be the big shit on down here in the deserts of Pico, but in the grand scheme, Chic is just another Frenchified victim joint for hipsters, one of a trillion wannabe styling "authentic" culinary yadda yaddas that cater to that contemptible American pining for Euro-sophistication. And hey, it's Los Angeles not fucking Avignon, you miserable sack of toss - people eat egg whites here, and if you can't be assed to throw the yolk out with the shell, that extra half second it would take you per egg, then what you're telling me, Monsieur DickCheese, is that you don't give a flying one for your customers.
Oh and what kind of loser name is Chic anyway? Was that your idea? And the red neon sign too? Classy! You must be French!!!
But hey - the food was pretty good. I didn't die of poisoning or anything. (Fistbump).
My wife and I recently discovered Chic, and we can't recommend it enough.
The interior is classy and inviting; the staff is attentive and eager to please; the food has yet to disappoint; and the wine offerings are ample.
So far we have been there three times for dinner and twice for brunch, and we look forward to going back to what is sure to be a regular spot for us.
The wife and I found ourselves driving around aimlessly looking for someplace new to check out for dinner. Driving down Pico and heading east of La Cienega was definitely not part of the plan, but suddenly out of nowhere, we see bright lights heralding "Chic Restaurant." Oh-kay, sure why not?
They have a spacious patio area, complete with heating lamps and an awning which closes up during cold windy nights. Sweet. But I wanted to get to know the place and at the end of the day, sidewalk dining is sidewalk dining, you know? So, in we went.
Place was packed. But in a good way. Who are all these people and what are they doing out here in a middle of nowhere strip between La Cienega and K-Town? Demographics were all over the place. Young hipsters. Mature "intellectual" types. Aging yuppies. The WeHo crowd. Some people who seemed indigenous to the area prior to gentrification creeping in. Love that diversity. Reminds me of SF or NYC.
The interior has that upscale, artistic and high brow intellectual feel. Old foreign movie posters, a large wine selection (beer and wine only at the bar), communal table in the center. Technically, there is back patio which consists of one table, if you wanted an intimate dinner or a private party. Overall, a simply-designed interior, but it sets the mood well.
And the food? Delish. Apparently most if not all of the ingredients are locally sourced from the SM Farmers market and about 5 or 6 local farms. Awesome. The butternut squash soup was great. The burger was great. Wife had the Yellowtail special, which she loved.
Basically, you're getting an upscale, sophisticated dining experience and menu like you might find at Mozza, but at a fraction of the price. And for all of the above reasons, I highly recommend checking out Chic Wine Bar for a romantic date night dinner.
And you can trust me on this one; I'm an Elite. ;)
Being that I can walk to Chic from my house (a great excuse to have just one more class of wine), I'm surprised I hadn't written a review yet.
I've always enjoyed any wine that I have there, and this might just be a personal comfort thing, but I sort of love that my wine comes in a little carafe that (may not be, but) feels like I get that much more to enjoy.
My favorite appetizers are the crispy calamari and the salmon & avacado tartar. The tartar is just so flavorful and refreshing. For dinner I've had the roasted chicken and if memory serves me right, the pork chop. I'm usually happy coming here for appetizers and wine, oh and the lentil soup is very yummy too.
There is so much potential here, and the steaks are great. Also the fish. However, the salads and many menu items just have too many ingredients, and feel schizophrenic, and like they're trying too too hard. Salad I was told about tonight: Shaved brussel sprouts plus blue cheese, plus persimmon seeds, plus walnuts plus oranges, you get the idea. Btw, the website menu doesn't reflect what they really have. Â In general, really good on what they do well but trying way too hard and missing on the salads and appetizers.
Review Source:Nice little place to grab a bite. Â Staff is really friendly. Â Menu changes and they offer special menus occasionally. Quiet little restaurant on pico. More of a meat and seafood driven menu, but they do have some vegetarian selections. Â Ive tried the soup of the day a couple of times and its been pretty tasty. Â They also seem to have a pretty large wine selection for people looking for glass or bottle. Â Very nice presentation.
Review Source:It's not often that I see venison on the menu. It was great. Â Tender and delicious. Â The meat is sourced from a certified humane ranch and is antibiotic and hormone free. Â Â How that works with venison I'm not sure. Â The fact that they are conscious about the ingredients is a plus. Â The value is also terrific. Â A bit out of the way for me, though I will return.
Review Source:What a gem.  I dined here last night with a group of girlfriends after catching a show at Rogue Machine Theatre.  Very nice ambiance, charming wait staff with zero attitude and the food was excellent.  We got the Goat cheese skillet as well as various other dishes and everything was delicious.  Even the bread and butter was given special attention with their  homemade truffle butter which was exceptional.
Review Source:Been here a couple of times and it's a great place overall. Good food, good wine. Didn't care for the beer selection, but hey, you come for the wine anyway. Service is not the best as I've had some spacey waiters. So I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're on a schedule. It's really a slow eat, which you need sometimes. I can forgive all that because of the food.
The food:
Seared Sea Scallop appetizer: small but quite delicious
Boneless Half Chicken: smokey, moist, and enough for left overs. Definitely one of the better birds out there. The veggies on the side are a nice complement to the chicken and are flavorful, too. It's a simple dish without bells and whistles so the chicken has to be spot on and it is.
Beef Short Ribs Bourguignon: the sauce is robust and heavenly, the beef is tender and melts, the mashed potatoes and veggies round it out. My only complaint is that I wanted more beef. We weren't given the portion seen in the Yelp images. I'll have to order it again to see what's going on with that. It was on the skimpy side but it was just so delicious, I couldn't argue with it.
Creme Brulee: it's light, creamy, and a good choice for when you want just a bit of something sweet.
Brazilia: Yes! This is an amazing chocolatey dessert. If rich is what you want, go with it.
I have gone here so many times and never left disappointed. Food is really good. Wine is good. Dessert even better. Try the orange rosemary cake.
This is a low key fancy place. You can come in casual clothes or fancy clothes. You will always be treated with respect. I feel like their suggestions are always good. And they are allergies friendly. They always make sure i won't sure eating their food.
Was very impressed with this place last night.
It was our second visit, and I was more impressed this time.
The area inside the restaurant can get very loud but we went early (pre-theater), and the noise level was fine.
Ok, on to the food:
-warm lentil and burrata salad with arugula 5*-spectacular. seriously, spectacular.
-burger 4*-very nice. reminiscent of Father's Office with caramelized onion, blue cheese, brioche bun
-hanger steak 4*- nicely cooked with good flavor
-coq au vin with pappardelle 4*-sauce was excellent--distinct and bold but not overpowering
Now, I want to return to see if this level of achievement is consistent; I'll keep you posted.
Came here for dinner on a Sunday night and it was fairly crowded. The inside was completely full and it was a nice night, so we sat outside. Being the only table outside occupied, I thought we would get the shaft on service, but that was not the case at all. There was a team mentality at Chic and we had several different people serve us during our meal.
We started with the cheese plate, which was nicely priced and enough for an appetizer. There have been many times at other place when you order the cheese plate and it ends up being way too much and could have been the meal itself. I digress. We also had the scallop appetizer, which was excellent. It came with 3 scallops and were medium sized.
For my entree, I had the Parpadelle with lamb ragu. It was really good! The sauce was not overbearing and there was a decent amount of lamb. It was really soft and hit the spot for sure. Being a short walk from our house, this place will be a go-to for us in the future.
This cute little wine bar is AWESOME! Â Me and a friend were going to a play (it's the area for small theater venues) and wanted to grab a bite to eat prior to going to the show. Â The reviews were wonderful so we decided to try it out.
They have indoor and outdoor seating. Â The design on the inside is really nice and there are several wines to choose from which was nice. Â The server helped us make our selection and I swear, if I didn't have any manners I would've licked the plate and asked for more (wink). Â It was really really good. Â We decided to have dessert as well and I am so glad we did. Â
I encourage, suggest and HIGHLY recommend everyone trying this spot out once! Â Trust me, you will NOT be disappointed.
The service was wonderful. Â The food fabulous! Â The wine delightful! The dessert...simply...AMAZING!
This place is great! Definitely one of those places you don't want to yelp about, because you are worried that everyone will start going. Fair prices and wonderful food/drink. We ordered the trout, which they were out of, which ended up being a happy mistake as the sea bass special was delicious. Next time will have the trout!
Also the truffle butter with the bread is dangerously good.
I really like Chic a lot. The atmosphere is cool and low-key. They've probably got the best cheesecake I've had since Eileen's in NYC.
They have smaller things like cheese plates, rustic items like pork-chops, and hearty desserts like olive oil cake. Their rosemary chicken and roasted carrots are killer. My pork-chops were a tad bland, but they have salt at the table. A friend who frequents this place told me that the restaurant had received complaints about the food being too salty, so I guess they went the other way. I liked being salt President for a change.
Chic will definitely be seeing me again and often.
We have been here many times (it's walking distance from home), and we've never been disappointed! Â Everything on their menu is delicious and the service is great. Â Wines are affordable, and they even let us take our leftover wine in to-go cups to walk home with :) Â
Great quality neighborhood spot. Â We've only been to their brunch once but it was awesome. Â We will definitely keep coming back!!
Wasn't really sure how I felt about a restaurant that has to call itself "Chic" but I thought I'd try it anyways. Turned out to be a great little restaurant. Perfect spot to meet up with a friend for wine and dinner. I could also see it as a good date night restaurant.
Anyways, we must have missed the rush because we were seated right away. I had their wine of the month (it was a red...) and their beef bourguignon. My friend had the steak and fries. We're kind of meat eaters. I've never had beef bourguignon before but from my experience here I think I am a fan. The meat was so tender and they give you such a hefty portion. My friend ate her entire steak but I'm really glad I ordered what I did. Hah. Menu items range from around $11 - $18. Not super pricey but not cheap either.
I was really excited to see this new establishment thriving in our neighborhood months ago but it seems like it may be going downhill. Â Went here twice for brunch recently and it took over ten minutes to have a waiter come over and greet us. Â Went here for dinner and our waiter was sitting at a table eating food with a group of people in between working the tables around us. Â Maybe I'm old fashioned but that's just plain unsanitary. Â Eat before your shift. Â
I've loved this place since it's beginning and have been a full on supporter of it's continued success but I can no longer do that. Â Not once, not twice but 7 times in a row our to go food has taken about an hour to be ready. Â I give it an extra ten minutes than quoted over the phone before I head up there and I'm still waiting about 20-25 minutes when I get there. Â It's ridiculous. Â
Truth of the matter is that even when they know they are giving you bad service, they are unapologetic. Â In a city of a million great restaurants they should value their customers more.
Moral of the story is that with the growth that this place has had over the last year or so, they have not adjusted their staff to accommodate their growing business. Â If you have plans for the night or somewhere to be after dinner this might not be the best place for you. Â That includes brunch too.
Im torn because I really want to give them five stars, but when we first got there, the service was pretty slow. We were 2 of the 7 people there and most of them had their drinks and food already, so why did I have to wave the owner down and ask her for drinks? Shouldn't that be the first thing you ask me after you hand me the menu? I was pretty annoyed.
THEN... The kids running around the place! OMG! We literally almost walked out because the kids were loud and running around the small dinning area. One of the kids belonged to the owner and the other to a customer who was friends (?) with the owner. I like kids, don't get me wrong. I just don't like kids who are not UNDER CONTROL! AND you are a business, there should be some professionalism there, am I wrong?
I would have only given this place 3 stars, BUT their brunch menu was pretty good. I was completely disappointed when I was ready to order and I ordered the Croque Madam and the waiter told me that THEY DONT CARRY IT ANYMORE! So bummed. I yelped, found the place, came prepared for what I was going to get AND THEY DONT SERVE IT ANYMORE?? That would have been 2 stars, BUT...
The owner and the kids FINALLY left. The other worker there was super friendly and the mimosas kept coming and it was mixed very well. I ordered the Egg and potato combo with the french toast (FT came highly recommended by the waiter) and the BF got the Fritata. Our food was pretty decent. It was good, but nothing outstanding until you get to the FRENCH TOAST.
OMG the french toast is the f'n BOMB! I am not a French toast/Pancake fan by any means, but that was not just french toast! It was a taste of heaven. The fluffy clouds in heaven. It was soft and delicate. Perfect amount of powdered sugar on top. The soaked apples in the syrup was delicious and perfectly sweet. And all together it was magic in your mouth. I have not stopped talking about their french toast since we had it. It is HIGHLY recommended. I heard the owner telling one of the customers that she puts goat cheese in the french toast. You cant taste it, but if thats the magic trick, you GOT IT RIGHT!
We will be back here just for their bottomless Mimosas and French Toast, hopefully sooner then later!
Overall brunch was good. Â But be warned the website is out of date. Â I went with my mouth set for one thing only to be shut down upon arrival. They did have bottomless mimosas though, which is what we wanted for brunch. The regular mimosas were better than the pomegranate which had ice in it so it slows the drinking down.
As I don't eat eggs many breakfast places are limiting to me, but they were very accommodating to my substitutions on the menu. I had a great blue crab and potatoes egg-less skillet.  My husband got 2 eggs any way but he was a little upset that it only came with 1 pancake.  It was a good pancake though.
I would say we'll be back when we want the mimosas, but for breakfast food in general you can get better bang for your buck at several locations near by.
If I had to guess, I'd say my meat consumption most likely consists of like 65% chicken. Since I very rarely eat the four legged folks, I end up eating lots and lots and lots and lots of chicken.
In turn, if you were ever to ask me eat at places like California Chicken Cafe, Koo Koo Roo, etc, I would probably "NO. Noooo moooore chicken! Who do you think I am?" (Psyche!)
BUT, because I adore Bloom, and Chic is their chickeny cousin across the street, I felt the incessant need to test it out. Plus, if you're gonna eat our feathered little friends, it's good to know they went out happy. Free range, organic, & fed like kings. Happy chickens make happy... um... rotisserie decorations.
Inside, Chic is a small, modern little nook with a few tables, and a gorgeous display of rotisserie spits rotating and gleaming like the happy little birds they once were. Everything is served on bio-degradable, recycled paper goods (yay! more fun earth-friendliness) to keep you carbon-neutral. Â As already mentioned, the prices are great for the quality and portion size, the birds are tender and cooked perfectly, but in the end, nothing, including the sides, particularly blew me away. The mashed potatoes were good but not necessarily "creamy" and the lentil-spinach soup was a teensy bit bland. Then again, this is coming from the girl who adds salt BACK to the low sodium stuff. Gooo blood pressure!
So yes, in the end, a very positive three stars for Chic. I'll definitely order take out in the future - one one of those rare occasions where I might... actually... kindof... be craving more chicken.
